Sparse-LiDAR Prompting of Monocular Geometry Foundations: An Empirical Study Toward Long-Range Driving Depth

Sparse-LiDAR-prompted depth foundation models (PromptDA, Prior Depth Anything, DMD3C) have shown strong results on indoor scenes or within KITTI's standard 80-meter evaluation cap. However, two limitations remain: (i) systematic distance-stratified evaluation in long-range driving regimes (50-150 m) is largely absent; (ii) prior approaches built on disparity-based foundations rely on pre-interpolated dense priors, leaving truly sparse LiDAR injection on point-map foundations (e.g., MoGe-2, NeurIPS 2025) unexplored. We present SLIM (Sparse-LiDAR Injected Monocular geometry), the first adaptation of MoGe-2 to accept truly sparse LiDAR input. SLIM integrates a partial-convolution sparse encoder with a multi-scale fusion neck that fuses LiDAR features into the point-map decoder at five scales. We adopt density-agnostic training (random injection ratio in [0.005, 0.30]) so a single model serves diverse input densities. On Virtual KITTI and CARLA, SLIM reduces the absolute relative error of the MoGe-2 baseline by approximately 39-51% at 100-150 m. Ablation across six injection ratios shows partial-convolution injection improves both AbsRel and RMSE on Virtual KITTI in all six settings; on CARLA, AbsRel improves in five of six settings (one near-tie at 0.015 differs by 0.0013), and RMSE is comparable across encoders, with partial-convolution improving in three settings (by up to 0.31 unit) and losing by at most 0.11 unit in the other three.

Transformer refined quantum sampling for strongly correlated electronic structure

Although quantum computing offers a promising solution for strongly correlated system simulation, existing algorithms face significant bottlenecks on current noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices. Here, we introduce QiankunNet-QSCI, a hybrid quantum-classical framework that addresses this challenge by combining efficient quantum-sampling with a transformer neural network. An efficient unitary selected configuration Interaction (USCI) ansatz especially designed for quantum sampling is proposed to identify the most chemically significant electronic configurations on the Zuchongzhi 3.1 quantum processor. Subsequently, the transformer model QiankunNet learns from these sparse yet critical quantum data to infer and reconstruct the complete electronic wavefunction with high fidelity. Simulation of the challenging 40-qubit [2Fe-2S] ferredoxin active center achieves chemical accuracy. Simulation of the nitrogenase P-cluster in a 114-electron 73-orbital active space also reaches 12 milli-Hartree-level agreement with the best density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) result. QiankunNet-QSCI thus offers a practical route to accurate quantum-assisted electronic structure calculations on current devices.

The ALPINE-CRISTAL-JWST Survey: The Fast Metal Enrichment of Massive Galaxies at z~5

We present the stellar mass-metallicity relation (MZR) and mass-metallicity-star formation relation ("fundamental metallicity relation"; FMR) of 18 massive (log(M/Msun) = 9.5 - 11) main-sequence galaxies at z~5 from the ALPINE-CRISTAL-JWST sample. This sample complements recent studies by JWST at up to two orders of magnitude lower stellar masses. The metallicities are derived using strong optical lines, and verified by temperature-based oxygen abundance measurements for five galaxies for which faint auroral lines are detected. We find that the metal abundance evolves, on average, from 40% to 60% solar between z~5 and cosmic noon (z~2) at the massive end of the MZR, suggesting already significant metal enrichment at early times. The FMR at z=5 exhibits a 5x larger scatter (preferentially to lower metallicities) compared the local FMR relation. This scatter can be explained by a bursty star formation and the direct build-up of metals in early galaxies as well as differences in age and outflow efficiencies. Capitalizing on all available samples, we find that the observed MZR and FMR over three orders of stellar mass is generally in good agreement with results from cosmological simulation, although some underestimate the metal enrichment at low stellar masses. This may be due to too efficient metal-rich outflows. We show that the ALPINE-CRISTAL-JWST galaxies likely joined the current FMR at z~10 and will evolve into massive (log(M/Msun)~11.4) galaxies with super-solar metallicities by z=0.

On the Trustworthiness of Generative Foundation Models: Guideline, Assessment, and Perspective

Generative Foundation Models (GenFMs) have emerged as transformative tools. However, their widespread adoption raises critical concerns regarding trustworthiness across dimensions. This paper presents a comprehensive framework to address these challenges through three key contributions. First, we systematically review global AI governance laws and policies from governments and regulatory bodies, as well as industry practices and standards. Based on this analysis, we propose a set of guiding principles for GenFMs, developed through extensive multidisciplinary collaboration that integrates technical, ethical, legal, and societal perspectives. Second, we introduce TrustGen, the first dynamic benchmarking platform designed to evaluate trustworthiness across multiple dimensions and model types, including text-to-image, large language, and vision-language models. TrustGen leverages modular components--metadata curation, test case generation, and contextual variation--to enable adaptive and iterative assessments, overcoming the limitations of static evaluation methods. Using TrustGen, we reveal significant progress in trustworthiness while identifying persistent challenges. Finally, we provide an in-depth discussion of the challenges and future directions for trustworthy GenFMs, which reveals the complex, evolving nature of trustworthiness, highlighting the nuanced trade-offs between utility and trustworthiness, and consideration for various downstream applications, identifying persistent challenges and providing a strategic roadmap for future research. This work establishes a holistic framework for advancing trustworthiness in GenAI, paving the way for safer and more responsible integration of GenFMs into critical applications. To facilitate advancement in the community, we release the toolkit for dynamic evaluation.

Capacitive Touchscreens at Risk: A Practical Side-Channel Attack on Smartphones via Electromagnetic Emanations

Capacitive touchscreens in modern smartphones introduce severe side-channel vulnerabilities. However, existing attacks often require restrictive conditions or invasive measurements. This paper presents TESLA, a novel, contactless electromagnetic (EM) side-channel attack that exploits inherent EM emanations during touchscreen scanning. We demonstrate that these emanations encode the spatiotemporal evolution of touch interactions, forming a unified leakage basis. By secretly placing an EM probe near the victim's device, TESLA enables attackers to extract highly sensitive information, including screen-unlocking PIN codes, keyboard inputs, interacting application categories, and continuous handwriting trajectories. Compared to existing attacks, TESLA offers a broader range of attack targets, more efficient sample acquisition, and operations in practical attack scenarios. Extensive evaluations on popular commercial smartphones, specifically the iPhone X, Xiaomi 10 Pro, Samsung S10, and Huawei Mate 30 Pro, validate the effectiveness of TESLA. It achieves remarkable inference accuracy in diverse settings such as private meeting rooms and public libraries, with success rates of 99.3% for PIN code recognition, 97.6% for keyboard input reconstruction, and 95.0% for application inference, respectively. Simultaneously, it attains a 76.8% character recognition accuracy and a high geometric similarity (Jaccard index of 0.74) for 2D handwriting trajectory reconstruction.

Solving the cooling flow problem with combined jet-wind AGN feedback

Active galactic nucleus (AGN) feedback is widely viewed as the most promising solution to the long-standing cooling flow problem in galaxy clusters, yet previous models prescribe jet properties inconsistent with accretion physics. We perform an idealized hydrodynamic simulation of a galaxy cluster with no merger history and a relaxed state, with its other properties similar to the Perseus cluster using the MACER framework, incorporating both jets and winds whose properties are constrained by general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic simulations of black hole accretion and observations. The combined feedback reproduces key observables, including cold gas mass, star formation rate, thermodynamic radial profiles, and black hole growth, while jet-only or wind-only models fail. The success arises from turbulence driven by jet-wind shear that enhances kinetic-to-thermal energy conversion, boosting heating efficiency by factors of three and six relative to wind-only and jet-only cases, respectively.

Breaking the scalability barrier via a vertical tunable coupler in 3D integrated transmon system

Scaling superconducting quantum processors beyond the constraints of monolithic planar architectures is essential for fault-tolerant quantum computation. Here we demonstrate a three-dimensional (3D) integrated superconducting quantum processor in which two qubit chips are vertically stacked on opposing sides of a carrier chip and galvanically connected via multilayer flip-chip bonding. Intrachip qubit coupling is mediated by planar tunable couplers, whereas interchip coupling is enabled by vertical tunable couplers embedded in the carrier chip. Randomized benchmarking reveals simultaneous single-qubit gate fidelities of 99.87 % with negligible crosstalk, and controlled-Z gates achieve an average fidelity of 97.5 % for both intrachip and interchip operations. We further demonstrate high-fidelity Bell-state preparation and coherent generation of a four-qubit $W$ state, confirming the architecture's capability for interchip entanglement distribution. These results establish vertical coupling as a promising pathway toward scalable quantum processors compatible with advanced quantum error-correcting codes.

Enhancement of $J$$_c$ by Proton Irradiation in HgBa$_2$Ca$_2$Cu$_3$O$_8$$_+$$_δ$ Single Crystals

Critical current density is the key parameter for the practical application of superconductivity. In this study, 3 MeV proton irradiation experiments were conducted on HgBa$_2$Ca$_2$Cu$_3$O$_8$$_+$$_δ$ single crystals to introduce pinning centers. The critical current density is found to be strongly enhanced after the irradiation with its maximum at a dose of 1$\times$10$^{16}$/cm$^2$, where the self-field critical current density at 2 K is enhanced from 5.5 MA/cm$^2$ to 26 MA/cm$^2$. At 77 K, the self-field critical current density for all irradiated crystals is over 0.1 MA/cm$^2$. The power-law dependence of the critical current density on the magnetic field is observed after irradiation, with a large power-law exponent $α$ close to 1. A monotonic magnetic field dependence of the normalized magnetic relaxation rate is observed, which could be attributed to the low irreversibility field caused by the large anisotropy in Hg1223 single crystals. Through the analysis of the pinning force density of the crystal before and after irradiation, a clear mechanism change has been observed.

Latent Bridge: Feature Delta Prediction for Efficient Dual-System Vision-Language-Action Model Inference

Dual-system Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models achieve state-of-the-art robotic manipulation but are bottlenecked by the VLM backbone, which must execute at every control step while producing temporally redundant features. We propose Latent Bridge, a lightweight model that predicts VLM output deltas between timesteps, enabling the action head to operate on predicted outputs while the expensive VLM backbone is called only periodically. We instantiate Latent Bridge on two architecturally distinct VLAs: GR00T-N1.6 (feature-space bridge) and π0.5 (KV-cache bridge), demonstrating that the approach generalizes across VLA designs. Our task-agnostic DAgger training pipeline transfers across benchmarks without modification. Across four LIBERO suites, 24 RoboCasa kitchen tasks, and the ALOHA sim transfer-cube task, Latent Bridge achieves 95-100% performance retention while reducing VLM calls by 50-75%, yielding 1.65-1.73x net per-episode speedup.

Robust Multimodal Recommendation via Graph Retrieval-Enhanced Modality Completion

Multimodal data plays a critical role in web-based recommendation systems, where information from diverse modalities such as vision and text enhances representation learning. However, real-world multimodal datasets often suffer from modality incompleteness due to sensor failures, annotation scarcity, or privacy constraints, which substantially degrade model performance and reliability. One effective solution to address this issue is modality completion, which reconstructs missing features to provide modality-complete graphs for downstream tasks. Given a query node with missing multimodal features, existing modality completion methods typically infer information from the node itself or its neighbors to reconstruct the missing modality. However, these methods may overlook semantically relevant context in the graph, which contains valuable cues that are non-trivial to capture through simple methods like neighborhood aggregation. In this work, we propose GRE-MC, a Graph Retrieval-Enhanced Modality Completion framework, to overcome these limitations. By introducing a modality-aware subgraph retrieval mechanism, GRE-MC selects semantically relevant subgraphs from the entire graph, providing richer contextual information for completing missing modalities. Subsequently, a graph transformer jointly encodes the query node and the retrieved subgraph via global attention to complete the missing features, while a learnable sparse-routing codebook regularizes latent embeddings into compact bases for improved robustness. Extensive experiments on multimodal recommendation benchmarks demonstrate that GRE-MC consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods, validating the effectiveness of subgraph retrieval and joint-encoding graph transformer for robust modality completion.

Long-tail Internet photo reconstruction

Internet photo collections exhibit an extremely long-tailed distribution: a few famous landmarks are densely photographed and easily reconstructed in 3D, while most real-world sites are represented with sparse, noisy, uneven imagery beyond the capabilities of both classical and learned 3D methods. We believe that tackling this long-tail regime represents one of the next frontiers for 3D foundation models. Although reliable ground-truth 3D supervision from sparse scenes is challenging to acquire, we observe that it can be effectively simulated by sampling sparse subsets from well-reconstructed Internet landmarks. To this end, we introduce MegaDepth-X, a large dataset of 3D reconstructions with clean, dense depth, together with a strategy for sampling sets of training images that mimic camera distributions in long-tail scenes. Finetuning 3D foundation models with these components yields robust reconstructions under extreme sparsity, and also enables more reliable reconstruction in symmetric and repetitive scenes, while preserving generalization to standard, dense 3D benchmark datasets.

Homodyne Photonic Tensor Processor exceeds 1,000-TOPS

High-performance computing underpins modern artificial intelligence (AI), enabling foundation models, real-time inference and perception in autonomous systems, and data-intensive scientific simulations. Recent advances in quantization techniques utilizing low-precision computation without degrading model accuracy, create new opportunities for analog photonic computing characterized by ultra-high clock rates and low energy consumption. Here we propose and demonstrate a coherent homodyne integrated circuit capable of general matrix multiplication (GEMM) with aggregate throughput that exceeds 1,000 TOPS (tera-operations per second), enabled by massive on-chip optical fanout and parallelism. By leveraging time multiplexing, the required modulator count is reduced from O($N^2$) to O(N), allowing dense integration of record-scale 256 $\times$ 256 homodyne units (each <0.0064 $mm^2$) within a single reticle. We employ wafer-scale fabricated 64 thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) transmitters (each over 40-GHz bandwidth with propagation loss of 0.2 dB/cm) to encode data and chip-to-chip coupled to Si/SiN computing circuits (64 channels). Our system achieves up to 7-bit computational accuracy across 8 $\times$ 8 parallel channels at record computing clockrate 120 Gbaud/s, and 6-bit statistical accuracy across 256 $\times$ 100 channels at 20-128 Gbaud/s, representing a total throughput of 1,000-6,000 TOPS. Massive parallelism amortizes the optoelectronic (OE) conversion to allow 330-TOPS/W efficiency using foundry-available packaging technology. The system throughput is benchmarked with Qwen2.5-0.5 billion parameter models that generate accurate tokens. High throughput and energy efficiency establish a near-term pathway toward light-based accelerators for large-scale training and low-latency inference from datacenters to edges, accelerating new models toward artificial general intelligence.

Capacity-Achieving Codes with Inverse-Ackermann-Depth Encoders

We prove that for any additive noise channel over $\mathbb{F}_q$, there exist error-correcting codes approaching channel capacity encodable by arithmetic circuits (with weighted addition gates) over $\mathbb{F}_q$ of size $O(n)$ and depth $2α(n)$, where $α(n)$ is a version of the inverse Ackermann function that is at most $3$ for all input lengths $n$ in practice. Our results demonstrate that certain capacity-achieving codes admit highly efficient encoding circuits that are simultaneously of linear size and inverse-Ackermann depth. Our construction composes a linear code with constant rate and relative distance, based on the constructions of Gál, Hansen, Koucký, Pudlák, and Viola [IEEE Trans. Inform. Theory 59(10), 2013] and Drucker and Li [COCOON 2023], with an additional layer formed by a disperser graph. A probabilistic argument over the edge weights of the disperser shows the existence of a deterministic encoder achieving error probability $2^{-Ω(n)}$ at any rate below capacity.

When Stars Mimic Monsters: Spectral Evidence for an $η$ Carinae-like Giant Eruption in SBS 0335$-$052 E

SBS 0335$-$052 E is an extremely low-metallicity ($Z\sim0.04\,Z_{\odot}$) blue compact dwarf galaxy. An active galactic nucleus has been proposed to explain the broad H$α$ emission and near-infrared (NIR) time variability in super star clusters 1 and 2 (SSCs 1&2). However, Peng et al. discovered broad wings in the forbidden [O III] $\lambda5007$ emission (up to $\sim5\,000\,\rm{km\,s^{-1}}$), challenging the broad-line region interpretation. We present new KCWI/KCRM integral-field spectroscopy to directly compare spectra across multiple SSCs. The nebula surrounding SSCs 1&2 shows unique features. The Ly$β$-pumped O I $\lambda8446$ emission constrains $τ_{\rm\,Lyα}\sim10^8$. Multiple ionization states of iron are detected from Fe$^{+}$ to Fe$^{+4}$. Stellar photoionization models can reproduce the [Fe III]/[Fe II] and [Fe IV]/[Fe III] line ratios at high density ($n_e\sim10^6\,\rm{cm^{-3}}$), but they fail to account for most of the [Fe V] emission. The broad H$α$ wings exhibit an exponential profile; the asymmetric wings extend from $\sim-5\,000\,\rm{km\,s^{-1}}$ to $\sim10\,000\,\rm{km\,s^{-1}}$. Thomson scattering in a radially expanding medium provides a good fit with $v_w\sim200\,\rm{km\,s^{-1}}$, optical depth $τ_e\sim10$, and an outer to inner radius of 10. Enhanced N/O and potentially depleted Fe/O ratios are consistent with CNO-cycled ejecta from massive stars and with dust formation, respectively. We propose that mass loss from a massive star interacting with its circumstellar medium drives a shock that powers the NIR variability, the luminous X-ray point source, and the [Fe V] emission. If confirmed, the proposed stellar eruption would be a distant example of an $η$ Carinae-like giant eruption, and the first in an ultra-low metallicity environment.

Understanding Pure Textual Reasoning for Blind Image Quality Assessment

Textual reasoning has recently been widely adopted in Blind Image Quality Assessment (BIQA). However, it remains unclear how textual information contributes to quality prediction and to what extent text can represent the score-related image contents. This work addresses these questions from an information-flow perspective by comparing existing BIQA models with three paradigms designed to learn the image-text-score relationship: Chain-of-Thought, Self-Consistency, and Autoencoder. Our experiments show that the score prediction performance of the existing model significantly drops when only textual information is used for prediction. Whereas the Chain-of-Thought paradigm introduces little improvement in BIQA performance, the Self-Consistency paradigm significantly reduces the gap between image- and text-conditioned predictions, narrowing the PLCC/SRCC difference to 0.02/0.03. The Autoencoder-like paradigm is less effective in closing the image-text gap, yet it reveals a direction for further optimization. These findings provide insights into how to improve the textual reasoning for BIQA and high-level vision tasks.

Profound impacts of interlayer interactions in bilayer altermagnetic V2S2O

Two-dimensional altermagnets exhibit exceptional potential for low-power spintronics via nonrelativistic spin splitting and zero net magnetization. Here, we systematically investigate the influence of interlayer interactions on the electronic, magnetic and quantum transport properties of bilayer vanadium oxysulfide (V2S2O), a prototypical layered altermagnet, using DFT and NEGF calculations. Our results reveal that interlayer interactions predominantly modulate the p-orbital derived top valence bands, inducing a profound competitive valence band maximum position between Gamma-point pz and X/Y-point pxy orbitals, with an energy difference as small as 9 meV. Furthermore, interlayer interactions suppress the piezomagnetic effect and impose additional requirements on the type of strain for the bilayer system, compared to its monolayer counterpart. Out-of-plane external electric fields effectively weaken interlayer coupling by enlarging the energy difference of Gamma/X-Y top valence bands to 170 meV. Quantum transport simulations on a bilayer Au/V2S2O/Au two-probe device demonstrate the presence of pronounced spin current. Interlayer interactions reduce the transmission spin polarization from nearly 100% (monolayer) to 60% (bilayer) for energies above the Fermi level. Notably, gate-voltage modulation exhibits significant asymmetry in controlling charge-to-spin current conversion efficiency, originating from the out-of-plane symmetry breaking induced by the electrode geometry. Specifically, a positive gate voltage markedly enhances the contribution of the bottom layer to the overall spin polarization, while a negative gate voltage induces a marginal reduction of transmission spin polarization, attributed to the inherently weak polarization contribution of the bottom layer. These findings provide essential insights for the design and optimization of multilayer altermagnetic spintronics.

Empowering Locally Deployable Medical Agent via State Enhanced Logical Skills for FHIR-based Clinical Tasks

While Large Language Models demonstrate immense potential as proactive Medical Agents, their real-world deployment is severely bottlenecked by data scarcity under privacy constraints. To overcome this, we propose State-Enhanced Logical-Skill Memory (SELSM), a training-free framework that distills simulated clinical trajectories into entity-agnostic operational rules within an abstract skill space. During inference, a Query-Anchored Two-Stage Retrieval mechanism dynamically fetches these entity-agnostic logical priors to guide the agent's step-by-step reasoning, effectively resolving the state polysemy problem. Evaluated on MedAgentBench -- the only authoritative high-fidelity virtual EHR sandbox benchmarked with real clinical data -- SELSM substantially elevates the zero-shot capabilities of locally deployable foundation models (30B--32B parameters). Notably, on the Qwen3-30B-A3B backbone, our framework completely eliminates task chain breakdowns to achieve a 100\% completion rate, boosting the overall success rate by an absolute 22.67\% and significantly outperforming existing memory-augmented baselines. This study demonstrates that equipping models with a dynamically updatable, state-enhanced cognitive scaffold is a privacy-preserving and computationally efficient pathway for local adaptation of AI agents to clinical information systems. While currently validated on FHIR-based EHR interactions as an initial step, the entity-agnostic design of SELSM provides a principled foundation toward broader clinical deployment.

BandPO: Bridging Trust Regions and Ratio Clipping via Probability-Aware Bounds for LLM Reinforcement Learning

Proximal constraints are fundamental to the stability of the Large Language Model reinforcement learning. While the canonical clipping mechanism in PPO serves as an efficient surrogate for trust regions, we identify a critical bottleneck: fixed bounds strictly constrain the upward update margin of low-probability actions, disproportionately suppressing high-advantage tail strategies and inducing rapid entropy collapse. To address this, we introduce Band-constrained Policy Optimization (BandPO). BandPO replaces canonical clipping with Band, a unified theoretical operator that projects trust regions defined by f-divergences into dynamic, probability-aware clipping intervals. Theoretical analysis confirms that Band effectively resolves this exploration bottleneck. We formulate this mapping as a convex optimization problem, guaranteeing a globally optimal numerical solution while deriving closed-form solutions for specific divergences. Extensive experiments across diverse models and datasets demonstrate that BandPO consistently outperforms canonical clipping and Clip-Higher, while robustly mitigating entropy collapse.
