Matching-with-Contracts for the AI-RAN Market: AIGC-as-a-Service for Teleoperation

Artificial intelligence radio access networks (AI-RANs) are a promising architecture for bolstering the prosperity of the edge AI ecosystem. A well-designed incentive mechanism can further ensure the sustainable development of this ecosystem. However, incentive mechanism design faces two major challenges: 1) information asymmetry, where AI-RAN operators have only partial knowledge of AI users' utility functions, and 2) competition, as multiple AI-RAN operators coexist in real-world markets. Remarkably, chaotic and adversarial competition might compromise AI-RAN operators' utility. To this end, we develop a matching-with-contracts framework for incentive mechanism design in AI-RAN service markets. The framework extends the static matching-with-contracts model by jointly characterizing the contract design of multiple competitive operators, user-operator matching, and dynamic evolution of the market state. Specifically, the incentive mechanism offered by each AI-RAN operator takes the form of a contract menu, where each contract item consists of an AI service latency agreement and a corresponding price. We model the AI service process as three independent queues and characterize the violation probability of the latency agreement using queueing theory and the Chernoff bound. To derive an effective incentive mechanism, we further propose a mixed stable matching-with-contracts algorithm that jointly updates user-side matching decisions and operator-side contract menus. Simulation results for a teleoperation-oriented AIGC service demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method. Compared with benchmark schemes, our method improves the total utility of AI-RAN operators by at least 56.8\% under representative settings.

Holographic Surface Enabled Integrated Sensing and Communications

Integrated sensing and communications (ISAC) is an essential 6G capability for joint data transmission and environmental sensing. To support 6G scenarios with stringent ISAC performance requirements, existing massive-MIMO-based systems are expected to scale toward ultra-massive MIMO. However, this scaling incurs prohibitive cost and power consumption when realized using widely adopted phased arrays with complex phase shifters and feeding networks. Recently, holographic integrated sensing and communications (HISAC) has emerged as a promising paradigm to address this issue. It employs reconfigurable holographic surfaces (RHSs), a type of leaky-wave antenna, as a cost- and energy-efficient implementation of ultra-massive MIMO-based ISAC, and offers enhanced flexibility for ISAC beam synthesis through holographic beamforming. In this paper, we provide a comprehensive tutorial on HISAC, focusing on how RHS-enabled holographic beamforming can be exploited to jointly support communication and sensing under practical hardware constraints. We first introduce the fundamentals of RHSs and discuss the unique leakage power constraint of holographic beamforming. We then present a general optimization framework for HISAC and show how HISAC enhances joint communication and sensing, sensing-assisted communication, and communication-assisted sensing. We further present HISAC system implementations and experimental results. Finally, we outline promising research directions for HISAC, highlighting the potential of HISAC in advancing efficient, flexible, and high-performance ISAC networks.

Anchor-Aided Multi-User Semantic Communication with Adaptive Decoders

Semantic communication (SemCom) is accelerating its momentum to catch up with the massive increase in users' demands in both quantity and quality, with the assistance of advanced deep learning (DL) techniques. Specifically, SemCom can actively embed the semantic meaning of the data into the transmission process, while eliminating statistical redundancy to preserve bandwidth resources for other users. Therefore, the transmitter encodes the message in the most concise way, while the receiver tries to interpret the message with the DL model and its knowledge of the transmitter's intended meaning. Most existing works only consider one transmitter and one receiver, which limits their ability to address the diversity in users' models and capabilities. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a multi-user semantic communication system where each user is equipped with a distinct DL-based joint source-channel decoder architecture, reflecting the diversity in computing capacity. The challenging issue with the proposed system is the catastrophic forgetting property of neural networks, where the DL-based encoder fails to encode the data for the previous user when being trained with a new user. To address this, we propose an anchor decoder with an architecture that is symmetric to the encoder. The symmetric decoder has the same computational capacity as the encoder, providing feedback that aligns with the encoder's extraction capabilities and enhances optimization efficiency. The parameters of the optimized encoder are then frozen and used to train decoders for various users, aligning them with the encoder outputs. Finally, we conduct a series of simulation experiments to validate the proposed framework against other benchmarks.

Multi-AP Cooperative Beamforming for Cell-Free ISAC Networks: Balancing Communication SINR and Sensing SCNR

Cell-free integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems are facing the resource allocation challenges due to the deployment of access points (APs) and conflicting beamforming requirements between the communication and sensing functions. Unlike traditional ISAC architectures, the geographic distribution of APs introduces coordination complexity and resource-sharing conflicts that existing single-objective methods cannot adequately address. To address this challenge, we formulate an optimization problem for multi-AP cooperative beamforming that maximizes the sensing signal-to-clutter-plus-noise ratio (SCNR) under the communication rate constraints. The non-convex quadratically constrained quadratic program is transformed into a tractable convex semidefinite program via semidefinite relaxation, enabling efficient polynomial-time solutions and overcoming the local convergence limitations of traditional alternating optimization approaches. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed approach achieves superior performance in both communication signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and SCNR compared to existing schemes, confirming its effectiveness for balancing dual-functional objectives.

Aerial IRS Deployment-Aided Secure Computation Offloading Against DISCO Jamming Attacks

With the rapid growth of Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC), secure and efficient computation offloading from user equipment (UEs) to edge access points (APs) is critical. However, DISCO intelligent reflective surface-based fully-passive jammers (DIRS-based FPJs) use random time-varying phase shifts to launch DISCO jamming attacks, disrupting offloading performance. This paper leverages an aerial intelligent reflective surface (AIRS) to enable secure computation offloading against DISCO jamming by jointly optimizing offloading ratios, AIRS phase shifts, and deployment. A two-timescale (2Ts) framework is proposed to address the optimization challenge caused by the distinct update frequencies of different strategies. Specifically, AIRS deployment is adjusted on a long timescale to boost antijamming capability due to the impracticality of frequent physical adjustment, while offloading ratios and phase shifts are optimized on a short timescale to adapt to DIRS-jammed dynamic channel conditions. We propose a dual-agent deep reinforcement learning (DRL)-based AIRS deployment-aided secure computation offloading (DDADSO) scheme to maximize the secure offloading utility under DISCO jamming. Simulation results verify that the proposed DDADSO scheme outperforms benchmark schemes, demonstrating the effectiveness of AIRS deployment in improving offloading performance against DISCO jamming attacks.

Distributed Optimization-Learning with Graph Transformers for Terahertz Cell-Free Integrated Sensing and Communication Systems

In this paper, we propose a distributed optimization-learning framework for terahertz (THz) cell-free integrated sensing and communication (CF-ISAC) systems, termed Distributed Optimization-Learning with Graph Transformers (DOLG). We first formulate a highly non-convex joint scheduling and signal design problem for THz CF-ISAC systems, jointly optimizing access point (AP)-user equipment (UE) association and beamforming under signal to interference plus noise ratio based communication and Cramér-Rao bound based sensing constraints, together with line-of-sight-driven visibility rules and per-AP power constraints. We also develop an optimization based benchmark utilizing a tractable relaxed reformulation. Building upon this optimization structure, we redesign a graph transformer network (GTN) as an optimization-aware representation module that encodes cross-field wavefront geometry, blockage visibility, and sensing relevance in a permutation-equivariant manner. The proposed DOLG framework amortizes the iterative optimization procedure into a scalable GTN-conditioned distributed multi-agent reinforcement learning policy through centralized training and decentralized execution, while preserving per-AP power constraints via structure-preserving projections. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed DOLG framework achieves stable convergence and effectively balances the communication-sensing tradeoff. From the system-level perspective, it outperforms multicell and non-joint design baselines. Furthermore, it surpasses conventional optimization based and heuristic approaches in terms of both ISAC performance and computational scalability.

Energy-Efficient Hybrid Data Computation via Coordinated AirComp and Edge Offloading

The development of 6G networks brings an increasing variety of data services, which motivates the hybrid computation paradigm that coordinates the over-the-air computation (AirComp) and edge computing for diverse and effective data processing. In this paper, we address this emerging issue of hybrid data computation from an energy-efficiency perspective, where the coexistence of both types induces resource competition and interference, and thus complicates the network management. Accordingly, we formulate the problem to minimize the overall energy consumption including the data transmission and computation, subject to the offloading capacity and aggregation accuracy. We then propose a block coordinate descent framework that decomposes and solves the subproblems including the user scheduling, power control, and transceiver scaling, which are then iterated towards a coordinated hybrid computation solution. Simulation results confirm that our coordinated approach achieves significant energy savings compared to baseline strategies, demonstrating its effectiveness in creating a well-coordinated and sustainable hybrid computing environment.

The Role of ISAC in 6G Networks: Enabling Next-Generation Wireless Systems

The commencement of the sixth-generation (6G) wireless networks represents a fundamental shift in the integration of communication and sensing technologies to support next-generation applications. Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is a key concept in this evolution, enabling end-to-end support for both communication and sensing within a unified framework. It enhances spectrum efficiency, reduces latency, and supports diverse use cases, including smart cities, autonomous systems, and perceptive environments. This tutorial provides a comprehensive overview of ISAC's role in 6G networks, beginning with its evolution since 5G and the technical drivers behind its adoption. Core principles and system variations of ISAC are introduced, followed by an in-depth discussion of the enabling technologies that facilitate its practical deployment. The paper further analyzes current research directions to highlight key challenges, open issues, and emerging trends. Design insights and recommendations are also presented to support future development and implementation. This work ultimately tries to address three central questions: Why is ISAC essential for 6G? What innovations does it bring? How will it shape the future of wireless communication?

Enhanced Channel Estimation for Flexible Intelligent Metasurface-Aided Communication Systems

Flexible intelligent metasurface (FIM) has recently received considerable interest due to its advantage in realizing a better channel condition by dynamically morphing its surface shape. An FIM consists of multiple elements deposited on a flexible substrate. These elements can not only transmit signals, but also adapt their displacements in a direction perpendicular to the FIM surface via an attached controller. In this paper, we consider the channel estimation problem for the uplink of an FIM-enhanced communication system via customizing the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) method. Specifically, we formulate an optimization problem of minimizing the column coherence of the measurement matrix by optimizing the FIM's surface shape, subject to the morphing range constraint. Based on the estimated direction of arrival (DOA) and channel gain, we further investigate the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) improvement in the FIM-enhanced downlink multiple-input single-output (MISO) system. Numerical results demonstrate that an FIM significantly outperforms a conventional rigid uniform planar array (UPA), thereby showing that FIM can substantially improve channel estimation accuracy and achieve SNR improvement, even when using estimated channel parameters.

Spatio-Temporal Semantic Inference for Resilient 6G HRLLC in the Low-Altitude Economy

The rapid expansion of the Low-Altitude Economy (LAE) necessitates highly reliable coordination among autonomous aerial agents (AAAs). Traditional reactive communication paradigms in 6G networks are increasingly susceptible to stochastic network jitter and intermittent signaling silence, especially within complex urban canyon environments. To address this connectivity gap, this paper introduces the Embodied Proactive Inference for Coordination (EPIC) framework, featuring a Spatio-Temporal Semantic Inference (STSI) operator designed to decouple the coordination loop from physical signaling fluctuations. By projecting stale peer observations into a proactive belief manifold, EPIC maintains a deterministic reaction latency regardless of the network state. Extensive simulations demonstrate that EPIC achieves an average 93.5% reduction in end-to-end reaction latency, masking physical transmission delays of 150 ms with a deterministic 10 ms execution heartbeat. Crucially, EPIC exhibits strategic immunity to escalating network jitter up to 100 ms and improves the Weighted Coverage Efficiency (WCE) by 10.5% during extreme signaling silence lasting up to 50 s. These results provide the deterministic resilience essential for 6G Hyper-Reliable and Low-Latency Communication (HRLLC).

Agentic AI as a Network Control-Plane Intelligence Layer for Federated Learning over 6G

The shift toward user-customized on-device learning places new demands on wireless systems: models must be trained on diverse, distributed data while meeting strict latency, bandwidth, and reliability constraints. To address this, we propose an Agentic AI as the control layer for managing federated learning (FL) over 6G networks, which translates high-level task goals into actions that are aware of network conditions. Rather than simply viewing FL as a learning challenge, our system sees it as a combined task of learning and network management. A set of specialized agents focused on retrieval, planning, coding, and evaluation utilizes monitoring tools and optimization methods to handle client selection, incentive structuring, scheduling, resource allocation, adaptive local training, and code generation. The use of closed-loop evaluation and memory allows the system to consistently refine its decisions, taking into account varying signal-to-noise ratios, bandwidth conditions, and device capabilities. Finally, our case study has demonstrated the effectiveness of the Agentic AI system's use of tools for achieving high performance.

Hierarchical Observe-Orient-Decide-Act Enabled UAV Swarms in Uncertain Environments: Frameworks, Potentials, and Challenges

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) swarms are increasingly explored for their potentials in various applications such as surveillance, disaster response, and military. However, UAV swarms face significant challenges of implementing effective and rapid decisions under dynamic and uncertain environments. The traditional decision-making frameworks, mainly relying on centralized control and rigid architectures, are limited by their adaptability and scalability especially in complex environments. To overcome these challenges, in this paper, we propose a hierarchical Observe-Orient-Decide-Act (H-OODA) loop based framework for the UAV swarm operation in uncertain environments, which is implemented by embedding the classical OODA loop across the cloud-edge-terminal layers, and leveraging the network function virtualization (NFV) technology to provide flexible and scalable decision-making functions. In addition, based on the proposed H-OODA framework, we joint autonomous decision-making and cooperative control to enhance the adaptability and efficiency of UAV swarms. Furthermore, we present some typical case studies to verify the improvement and efficiency of the proposed framework. Finally, the potential challenges and possible directions are analyzed to provide insights for the future H-OODA enabled UAV swarms.

A Multi-Prototype-Guided Federated Knowledge Distillation Approach in AI-RAN Enabled Multi-Access Edge Computing System

With the development of wireless network, Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-native Radio Access Network (RAN) have attracted significant attention. Particularly, the integration of AI-RAN and MEC is envisioned to transform network efficiency and responsiveness. Therefore, it is valuable to investigate AI-RAN enabled MEC system. Federated learning (FL) nowadays is emerging as a promising approach for AI-RAN enabled MEC system, in which edge devices are enabled to train a global model cooperatively without revealing their raw data. However, conventional FL encounters the challenge in processing the non-independent and identically distributed (non-IID) data. Single prototype obtained by averaging the embedding vectors per class can be employed in FL to handle the data heterogeneity issue. Nevertheless, this may result in the loss of useful information owing to the average operation. Therefore, in this paper, a multi-prototype-guided federated knowledge distillation (MP-FedKD) approach is proposed. Particularly, self-knowledge distillation is integrated into FL to deal with the non-IID issue. To cope with the problem of information loss caused by single prototype-based strategy, multi-prototype strategy is adopted, where we present a conditional hierarchical agglomerative clustering (CHAC) approach and a prototype alignment scheme. Additionally, we design a novel loss function (called LEMGP loss) for each local client, where the relationship between global prototypes and local embedding will be focused. Extensive experiments over multiple datasets with various non-IID settings showcase that the proposed MP-FedKD approach outperforms the considered state-of-the-art baselines regarding accuracy, average accuracy and errors (RMSE and MAE).

Geometric Knowledge-Assisted Federated Dual Knowledge Distillation Approach Towards Remote Sensing Satellite Imagery

Federated learning (FL) has recently become a promising solution for analyzing remote sensing satellite imagery (RSSI). However, the large scale and inherent data heterogeneity of images collected from multiple satellites, where the local data distribution of each satellite differs from the global one, present significant challenges to effective model training. To address this issue, we propose a Geometric Knowledge-Guided Federated Dual Knowledge Distillation (GK-FedDKD) framework for RSSI analysis. In our approach, each local client first distills a teacher encoder (TE) from multiple student encoders (SEs) trained with unlabeled augmented data. The TE is then connected with a shared classifier to form a teacher network (TN) that supervises the training of a new student network (SN). The intermediate representations of the TN are used to compute local covariance matrices, which are aggregated at the server to generate global geometric knowledge (GGK). This GGK is subsequently employed for local embedding augmentation to further guide SN training. We also design a novel loss function and a multi-prototype generation pipeline to stabilize the training process. Evaluation over multiple datasets showcases that the proposed GK-FedDKD approach is superior to the considered state-of-the-art baselines, e.g., the proposed approach with the Swin-T backbone surpasses previous SOTA approaches by an average 68.89% on the EuroSAT dataset.

Large Language Model-Assisted UAV Operations and Communications: A Multifaceted Survey and Tutorial

Uncrewed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are widely deployed across diverse applications due to their mobility and agility. Recent advances in Large Language Models (LLMs) offer a transformative opportunity to enhance UAV intelligence beyond conventional optimization-based and learning-based approaches. By integrating LLMs into UAV systems, advanced environmental understanding, swarm coordination, mobility optimization, and high-level task reasoning can be achieved, thereby allowing more adaptive and context-aware aerial operations. This survey systematically explores the intersection of LLMs and UAV technologies and proposes a unified framework that consolidates existing architectures, methodologies, and applications for UAVs. We first present a structured taxonomy of LLM adaptation techniques for UAVs, including pretraining, fine-tuning, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and prompt engineering, along with key reasoning capabilities such as Chain-of-Thought (CoT) and In-Context Learning (ICL). We then examine LLM-assisted UAV communications and operations, covering navigation, mission planning, swarm control, safety, autonomy, and network management. After that, the survey further discusses Multimodal LLMs (MLLMs) for human-swarm interaction, perception-driven navigation, and collaborative control. Finally, we address ethical considerations, including bias, transparency, accountability, and Human-in-the-Loop (HITL) strategies, and outline future research directions. Overall, this work positions LLM-assisted UAVs as a foundation for intelligent and adaptive aerial systems.

A Blockchain-Based Trust Framework for Resilient Cross-Domain UAV Service Orchestration

Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) networks are increasingly deployed for complex missions, including disaster response, intelligent logistics, and environmental monitoring. These missions generally require coordinated collaboration among multiple UAVs across distinct administrative domains. To support such cross-domain cooperation, service function chains (SFCs) are constructed, where complex workflows are decomposed into ordered service functions assigned to appropriate UAVs along the mission path. However, it is challenging to ensure secure, trustworthy, and low-latency cross-domain SFC orchestration in identity management, authentication, and resilience to node failures. To address these issues, this paper proposes a consortium blockchain-based trust architecture for cross-domain decentralized identity verification, auditable task execution, and dynamic service-aware orchestrator selection. The framework employs a hierarchical four-phase cross-domain authentication protocol covering the credential pre-verification, intra-domain execution, secure relay, and audit logging. The use case analysis confirms that the proposed framework achieves substantial reductions in authentication latency and significant improvements in system throughput against centralized and static schemes. The open challenges in scalability, adaptive trust assessment, interoperability, and energy efficiency are discussed, thereby providing directions for future researches on secure and efficient cross-domain UAV service orchestration.

TokenCom: Vision-Language Model for Multimodal and Multitask Token Communications

Visual-Language Models (VLMs), with their strong capabilities in image and text understanding, offer a solid foundation for intelligent communications. However, their effectiveness is constrained by limited token granularity, overlong visual token sequences, and inadequate cross-modal alignment. To overcome these challenges, we propose TaiChi, a novel VLM framework designed for token communications. TaiChi adopts a dual-visual tokenizer architecture that processes both high- and low-resolution images to collaboratively capture pixel-level details and global conceptual features. A Bilateral Attention Network (BAN) is introduced to intelligently fuse multi-scale visual tokens, thereby enhancing visual understanding and producing compact visual tokens. In addition, a Kolmogorov Arnold Network (KAN)-based modality projector with learnable activation functions is employed to achieve precise nonlinear alignment from visual features to the text semantic space, thus minimizing information loss. Finally, TaiChi is integrated into a multimodal and multitask token communication system equipped with a joint VLM-channel coding scheme. Experimental results validate the superior performance of TaiChi, as well as the feasibility and effectiveness of the TaiChi-driven token communication system.

Blockchain-Enabled Routing for Zero-Trust Low-Altitude Intelligent Networks

Due to the scalability and portability, low-altitude intelligent networks (LAINs) are essential in various fields such as surveillance and disaster rescue. However, in LAINs, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are characterized by the distributed topology and high mobility, thus vulnerable to security threats, which may degrade routing performances for data transmissions. Hence, how to ensure the routing stability and security of LAINs is challenging. In this paper, we focus on the routing with multiple UAV clusters in LAINs. To minimize the damage caused by potential threats, we present the zero-trust architecture with the software-defined perimeter and blockchain techniques to manage the identify and mobility of UAVs. Besides, we formulate the routing problem to optimize the end-to-end (E2E) delay and transmission success ratio (TSR) simultaneously, which is an integer nonlinear programming problem and intractable to solve. Therefore, we reformulate the problem into a decentralized partially observable Markov decision process. We design the multi-agent double deep Q-network-based routing algorithms to solve the problem, empowered by the soft-hierarchical experience replay buffer and prioritized experience replay mechanisms. Finally, extensive simulations are conducted and the numerical results demonstrate that the proposed framework reduces the average E2E delay by 59\% and improves the TSR by 29\% on average compared to benchmarks, while simultaneously enabling faster and more robust identification of low-trust UAVs.
