Multipath Component-Aided Signal Processing for Integrated Sensing and Communication Systems

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has emerged as a pivotal enabling technology for sixth-generation (6G) mobile communication system. The ISAC research in dense urban areas has been plaguing by severe multipath interference, propelling the thorough research of ISAC multipath interference elimination. However, transforming the multipath component (MPC) from enemy into friend is a viable and mutually beneficial option. In this paper, we preliminarily explore the MPC-aided ISAC signal processing and apply a space-time code to improve the ISAC performance. Specifically, we propose a symbol-level fusion for MPC-aided localization (SFMC) scheme to achieve robust and high-accuracy localization, and apply a Khatri-Rao space-time (KRST) code to improve the communication and sensing performance in rich multipath environment. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed SFMC scheme has more robust localization performance with higher accuracy, compared with the existing state-of-the-art schemes. The proposed SFMC would benefit highly reliable communication and sub-meter level localization in rich multipath scenarios.

Integrated Sensing and Communication Enabled Cooperative Passive Sensing Using Mobile Communication System

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is a potential technology of the sixth-generation (6G) mobile communication system, which enables communication base station (BS) with sensing capability. However, the performance of single-BS sensing is limited, which can be overcome by multi-BS cooperative sensing. There are three types of multi-BS cooperative sensing, including cooperative active sensing, cooperative passive sensing, and cooperative active and passive sensing, where the multi-BS cooperative passive sensing has the advantages of low hardware modification cost and large sensing coverage. However, multi-BS cooperative passive sensing faces the challenges of synchronization offsets mitigation and sensing information fusion. To address these challenges, a non-line of sight (NLoS) and line of sight (LoS) signal cross-correlation (NLCC) method is proposed to mitigate carrier frequency offset (CFO) and time offset (TO). Besides, a symbol-level multi-BS sensing information fusion method is proposed. The discrete samplings of echo signals from multiple BSs are matched independently and coherent accumulated to improve sensing accuracy. Moreover, a lowcomplexity joint angle-of-arrival (AoA) and angle-of-departure (AoD) estimation method is proposed to reduce the computational complexity. Simulation results show that symbol-level multi-BS cooperative passive sensing scheme has an order of magnitude higher sensing accuracy than single-BS passive sensing. This work provides a reference for the research on multi-BS cooperative passive sensing.

Distributed Cooperative Positioning in Dense Wireless Networks: A Neural Network Enhanced Fast Convergent Parametric Message Passing Method

Parametric message passing (MP) is a promising technique that provides reliable marginal probability distributions for distributed cooperative positioning (DCP) based on factor graphs (FG), while maintaining minimal computational complexity. However, conventional parametric MP-based DCP methods may fail to converge in dense wireless networks due to numerous short loops on FG. Additionally, the use of inappropriate message approximation techniques can lead to increased sensitivity to initial values and significantly slower convergence rates. To address the challenging DCP problem modeled by a loopy FG, we propose an effective graph neural network enhanced fast convergent parametric MP (GNN--FCPMP) method. We first employ Chebyshev polynomials to approximate the nonlinear terms present in the FG-based spatio-temporal messages. This technique facilitates the derivation of globally precise, closed-form representations for each message transmitted across the FG. Then, the parametric representations of spatial messages are meticulously refined through data-driven graph neural networks (GNNs). Conclusively, by performing inference on the FG, we derive more accurate closed-form expressions for the a posteriori distributions of node positions. Numerical results substantiate the capability of GNN--FCPMP to significantly enhance positioning accuracy within wireless networks characterized by high-density loops and ensure rapid convergence.

Do Chase Your Tail! Missing Key Aspects Augmentation in Textual Vulnerability Descriptions of Long-tail Software through Feature Inference

Augmenting missing key aspects in Textual Vulnerability Descriptions (TVDs) is crucial for effective vulnerability analysis. For instance, in TVDs, key aspects include Attack Vector, Vulnerability Type, among others. These key aspects help security engineers understand and address the vulnerability in a timely manner. For software with a large user base (non-long-tail software), augmenting these missing key aspects has significantly advanced vulnerability analysis and software security research. However, software instances with a limited user base (long-tail software) often get overlooked due to inconsistency software names, TVD limited avaliability, and domain-specific jargon, which complicates vulnerability analysis and software repairs. In this paper, we introduce a novel software feature inference framework designed to augment the missing key aspects of TVDs for long-tail software. Firstly, we tackle the issue of non-standard software names found in community-maintained vulnerability databases by cross-referencing government databases with Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs). Next, we employ Large Language Models (LLMs) to generate the missing key aspects. However, the limited availability of historical TVDs restricts the variety of examples. To overcome this limitation, we utilize the Common Weakness Enumeration (CWE) to classify all TVDs and select cluster centers as representative examples. To ensure accuracy, we present Natural Language Inference (NLI) models specifically designed for long-tail software. These models identify and eliminate incorrect responses. Additionally, we use a wiki repository to provide explanations for proprietary terms.

Static-Dynamic Class-level Perception Consistency in Video Semantic Segmentation

Video semantic segmentation(VSS) has been widely employed in lots of fields, such as simultaneous localization and mapping, autonomous driving and surveillance. Its core challenge is how to leverage temporal information to achieve better segmentation. Previous efforts have primarily focused on pixel-level static-dynamic contexts matching, utilizing techniques such as optical flow and attention mechanisms. Instead, this paper rethinks static-dynamic contexts at the class level and proposes a novel static-dynamic class-level perceptual consistency (SD-CPC) framework. In this framework, we propose multivariate class prototype with contrastive learning and a static-dynamic semantic alignment module. The former provides class-level constraints for the model, obtaining personalized inter-class features and diversified intra-class features. The latter first establishes intra-frame spatial multi-scale and multi-level correlations to achieve static semantic alignment. Then, based on cross-frame static perceptual differences, it performs two-stage cross-frame selective aggregation to achieve dynamic semantic alignment. Meanwhile, we propose a window-based attention map calculation method that leverages the sparsity of attention points during cross-frame aggregation to reduce computation cost. Extensive experiments on VSPW and Cityscapes datasets show that the proposed approach outperforms state-of-the-art methods. Our implementation will be open-sourced on GitHub.

FairSort: Learning to Fair Rank for Personalized Recommendations in Two-Sided Platforms

Traditional recommendation systems focus on maximizing user satisfaction by suggesting their favourite items. This user-centric approach may lead to unfair exposure distribution among the providers. On the contrary, a provider-centric design might become unfair to the users. Therefore, this paper proposes a re-ranking model FairSort to find a trade-off solution among user-side fairness, provider-side fairness, and personalized recommendations utility. Previous works habitually treat this issue as a knapsack problem, incorporating both-side fairness as constraints. In this paper, we adopt a novel perspective, treating each recommendation list as a runway rather than a knapsack. In this perspective, each item on the runway gains a velocity and runs within a specific time, achieving re-ranking for both-side fairness. Meanwhile, we ensure the Minimum Utility Guarantee for personalized recommendations by designing a Binary Search approach. This can provide more reliable recommendations compared to the conventional greedy strategy based on the knapsack problem. We further broaden the applicability of FairSort, designing two versions for online and offline recommendation scenarios. Theoretical analysis and extensive experiments on real-world datasets indicate that FairSort can ensure more reliable personalized recommendations while considering fairness for both the provider and user.

Human-Like Code Quality Evaluation through LLM-based Recursive Semantic Comprehension

Code quality evaluation involves scoring generated code quality based on a reference code for a specific problem statement. Currently, there are two main forms of evaluating code quality: match-based evaluation and execution-based evaluation. The former requires the collection of a large number of test cases, making a huge cost. The latter relies on superficial code matching as an evaluation metric, which fails to accurately capture code semantics. Moreover, extensive research has demonstrated that match-based evaluations do not truly reflect code quality. With the development of large language models (LLMs) in recent years, studies have proven the feasibility of using LLMs as evaluators for generative tasks. However, due to issues like hallucinations and uncertainty in LLMs, their correlation with human judgment remains at a lower level, making the direct use of LLMs for code quality evaluation challenging. To address these issues, we propose Human-Like Code Quality Evaluation through LLM-based Recursive Semantic Comprehension (HuCoSC). We employ a recursive approach to enable LLMs to comprehend portions of code semantics independently each time, obtaining the code semantics through multiple interactions with LLMs. We designed a Semantic Dependency Decoupling Storage to make independent analysis feasible, allowing LLMs to achieve more accurate semantics by breaking down complex problems. Finally, the generated code is scored based on a semantic comparison between the reference code and itself. Experimental results indicate that HuCoSC surpasses existing state-of-the-art methods in terms of correlation with human experts and correlation with code execution.

Empowering Agile-Based Generative Software Development through Human-AI Teamwork

In software development, the raw requirements proposed by users are frequently incomplete, which impedes the complete implementation of application functionalities. With the emergence of large language models, recent methods with the top-down waterfall model employ a questioning approach for requirement completion, attempting to explore further user requirements. However, users, constrained by their domain knowledge, lack effective acceptance criteria, which fail to capture the implicit needs of the user. Moreover, the cumulative errors of the waterfall model can lead to discrepancies between the generated code and user requirements. The Agile methodologies reduce cumulative errors through lightweight iteration and collaboration with users, but the challenge lies in ensuring semantic consistency between user requirements and the code generated. We propose AgileGen, an agile-based generative software development through human-AI teamwork. AgileGen attempts for the first time to use testable requirements by Gherkin for semantic consistency between requirements and code. Additionally, we innovate in human-AI teamwork, allowing users to participate in decision-making processes they do well and enhancing the completeness of application functionality. Finally, to improve the reliability of user scenarios, a memory pool mechanism is used to collect user decision-making scenarios and recommend them to new users. AgileGen, as a user-friendly interactive system, significantly outperformed existing best methods by 16.4% and garnered higher user satisfaction.

A test-free semantic mistakes localization framework in Neural Code Translation

In the task of code translation, neural network-based models have been shown to frequently produce semantically erroneous code that deviates from the original logic of the source code. This issue persists even with advanced large models. Although a recent approach proposed using test cases to identify these semantic errors, it relies heavily on the quality of the test cases and is not applicable to code snippets without test cases in real-world scenarios. Therefore, We present EISP, a static analysis framework based on the Large Language Model (LLM).First, the framework generates a semantic mapping between source code and translated code. Next, each sub-code fragment is identified by recursively traversing the abstract syntax tree of the source code, and its corresponding translated code fragment is found through the semantic mapping. Finally, EISP connects each pair of sub-code fragments with fine-grained knowledge hints through an AI chain to assist LLMs in discovering semantic mistakes in the translated code. In our benchmark evaluation, the EISP framework, based on GPT-4o mini, achieved an accuracy of 82.3\%, representing a 20.3\% improvement over baseline methods using the same base model, and a 7.4\% improvement compared to dynamic analysis methods that require test cases and manual intervention. To our knowledge, EISP is the first tool to locate semantic errors in translated code without test cases or compilable code. This innovative tool provides the software engineering community with a new way to deal with code fragments without test cases.

Communication, Sensing and Control integrated Closed-loop System: Modeling, Control Design and Resource Allocation

The wireless communication technologies have fundamentally revolutionized industrial operations. The operation of the automated equipment is conducted in a closed-loop manner, where the status of devices is collected and sent to the control center through the uplink channel, and the control center sends the calculated control commands back to the devices via downlink communication. However, existing studies neglect the interdependent relationship between uplink and downlink communications, and there is an absence of a unified approach to model the communication, sensing, and control within the loop. This can lead to inaccurate performance assessments, ultimately hindering the ability to provide guidance for the design of practical systems. Therefore, this paper introduces an integrated closed-loop model that encompasses sensing, communication, and control functionalities, while addressing the coupling effects between uplink and downlink communications. Through the analysis of system convergence, an inequality pertaining to the performances of sensing, communication, and control is derived. Additionally, a joint optimization algorithm for control and resource allocation is proposed. Simulation results are presented to offer an intuitive understanding of the impact of system parameters. The findings of this paper unveil the intricate correlation among sensing, communication, and control, providing insights for the optimal design of industrial closed-loop systems.

Target Localization with Macro and Micro Base Stations Cooperative Sensing

Addressing the communication and sensing demands of sixth-generation (6G) mobile communication system, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) has garnered traction in academia and industry. With the sensing limitation of single base station (BS), multi-BS cooperative sensing is regarded as a promising solution. The coexistence and overlapped coverage of macro BS (MBS) and micro BS (MiBS) are common in the development of 6G, making the cooperative sensing between MBS and MiBS feasible. Since MBS and MiBS work in low and high frequency bands, respectively, the challenges of MBS and MiBS cooperative sensing lie in the fusion method of the sensing information in high and low-frequency bands. To this end, this paper introduces a symbol-level fusion method and a grid-based three-dimensional discrete Fourier transform (3D-GDFT) algorithm to achieve precise localization of multiple targets with limited resources. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed MBS and MiBS cooperative sensing scheme outperforms traditional single BS (MBS/MiBS) sensing scheme, showcasing superior sensing performance

Deep Cooperation in ISAC System: Resource, Node and Infrastructure Perspectives

With the emerging Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) technique, exploiting the mobile communication system with multi-domain resources, multiple network elements, and large-scale infrastructures to realize cooperative sensing is a crucial approach satisfying the requirements of high-accuracy and large-scale sensing in IoE. In this article, the deep cooperation in ISAC system including three perspectives is investigated. In the microscopic perspective, namely, within a single node, the sensing information carried by time-frequency-space-code domain resources is processed, such as phase compensation, coherent accumulation and other operations, thereby improving the sensing accuracy. In the mesoscopic perspective, the sensing accuracy could be improved through the cooperation of multiple nodes. We explore various multi-node cooperative sensing scenarios and present the corresponding challenges and future research trends. In the macroscopic perspective, the massive number of infrastructures from the same operator or different operators could perform cooperative sensing to extend the sensing coverage and improve the sensing continuity. We investigate network architecture, target tracking methods, and the large-scale sensing assisted digital twin construction. Simulation results demonstrate the superiority of multi-nodes and multi-resources cooperative sensing over single resource or node sensing. This article may provide a deep and comprehensive view on the cooperative sensing in ISAC system to enhance the performance of sensing, supporting the applications of IoE.

UAV's Rotor Micro-Doppler Feature Extraction Using Integrated Sensing and Communication Signal: Algorithm Design and Testbed Evaluation

With the rapid application of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in urban areas, the identification and tracking of hovering UAVs have become critical challenges, significantly impacting the safety of aircraft take-off and landing operations. As a promising technology for 6G mobile systems, integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) can be used to detect high-mobility UAVs with a low deployment cost. The micro-Doppler signals from UAV rotors can be leveraged to address the detection of low-mobility and hovering UAVs using ISAC signals. However, determining whether the frame structure of the ISAC system can be used to identify UAVs, and how to accurately capture the weak rotor micro-Doppler signals of UAVs in complex environments, remain two challenging problems. This paper first proposes a novel frame structure for UAV micro-Doppler extraction and the representation of UAV micro-Doppler signals within the channel state information (CSI). Furthermore, to address complex environments and the interference caused by UAV body vibrations, the rotor micro-Doppler null space pursuit (rmD-NSP) algorithm and the feature extraction algorithm synchroextracting transform (SET) are designed to effectively separate UAV's rotor micro-Doppler signals and enhance their features in the spectrogram. Finally, both simulation and hardware testbed demonstrate that the proposed rmD-NSP algorithm enables the ISAC base station (BS) to accurately and completely extract UAV's rotor micro-Doppler signals. Within a 0.1s observation period, ISAC BS successfully captures eight rotations of the DJI M300 RTK UAV's rotor in urban environments. Compared to the existing AM-FM NSP and NSP signal decomposition algorithms, the integrity of the rotor micro-Doppler features is improved by 60%.

Communication-Assisted Sensing in 6G Networks

Exploring the mutual benefit and reciprocity of sensing and communication (S\&C) functions is fundamental to realizing deeper integration for integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) systems. This paper investigates a novel communication-assisted sensing (CAS) system within 6G perceptive networks, where the base station actively senses the targets through device-free wireless sensing and simultaneously transmits the estimated information to end-users. In such a CAS system, we first establish an optimal waveform design framework based on the rate-distortion (RD) and source-channel separation (SCT) theorems. After analyzing the relationships between the sensing distortion, coding rate, and communication channel capacity, we propose two distinct waveform design strategies in the scenario of target impulse response estimation. In the separated S\&C waveforms scheme, we equivalently transform the original problem into a power allocation problem and develop a low-complexity one-dimensional search algorithm, shedding light on a notable power allocation tradeoff between the S\&C waveform. In the dual-functional waveform scheme, we conceive a heuristic mutual information optimization algorithm for the general case, alongside a modified gradient projection algorithm tailored for the scenarios with independent sensing sub-channels. Additionally, we identify the presence of both subspace tradeoff and water-filling tradeoff in this scheme. Finally, we validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms through numerical simulations.

Differentiating Choices via Commonality for Multiple-Choice Question Answering

Multiple-choice question answering (MCQA) becomes particularly challenging when all choices are relevant to the question and are semantically similar. Yet this setting of MCQA can potentially provide valuable clues for choosing the right answer. Existing models often rank each choice separately, overlooking the context provided by other choices. Specifically, they fail to leverage the semantic commonalities and nuances among the choices for reasoning. In this paper, we propose a novel MCQA model by differentiating choices through identifying and eliminating their commonality, called DCQA. Our model captures token-level attention of each choice to the question, and separates tokens of the question attended to by all the choices (i.e., commonalities) from those by individual choices (i.e., nuances). Using the nuances as refined contexts for the choices, our model can effectively differentiate choices with subtle differences and provide justifications for choosing the correct answer. We conduct comprehensive experiments across five commonly used MCQA benchmarks, demonstrating that DCQA consistently outperforms baseline models. Furthermore, our case study illustrates the effectiveness of the approach in directing the attention of the model to more differentiating features.

Interference Management in MIMO-ISAC Systems: A Transceiver Design Approach

The integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system under multi-input multi-output (MIMO) architecture achieves dual functionalities of sensing and communication on the same platform by utilizing spatial gain, which provides a feasible paradigm facing spectrum congestion. However, the dual functionalities of sensing and communication operating simultaneously in the same platform bring severe interference in the ISAC systems. Facing this challenge, we propose a joint optimization framework for transmit beamforming and receive filter design for ISAC systems with MIMO architecture. We aim to maximize the signal-to-clutter-plus-noise ratio (SCNR) at the receiver while considering various constraints such as waveform similarity, power budget, and communication performance requirements to ensure the integration of the dual functionalities. In particular, the overall transmit beamforming is refined into sensing beamforming and communication beamforming, and a quadratic transformation (QT) is introduced to relax and convert the complex non-convex optimization objective. An efficient algorithm based on covariance matrix tapers (CMT) is proposed to restructure the clutter covariance matrix considering the mismatched steering vector, thereby improving the robustness of the ISAC transceiver design. Numerical simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Radio Map-Based Spectrum Sharing for Joint Communication and Sensing

The sixth-generation (6G) network is expected to provide both communication and sensing (C&S) services. However, spectrum scarcity poses a major challenge to the harmonious coexistence of C&S systems. Without effective cooperation, the interference resulting from spectrum sharing impairs the performance of both systems. This paper addresses C&S interference within a distributed network. Different from traditional schemes that require pilot-based high-frequency interactions between C&S systems, we introduce a third party named the radio map to provide the large-scale channel state information (CSI). With large-scale CSI, we optimize the transmit power of C&S systems to maximize the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) for the radar detection, while meeting the ergodic rate requirement of the interfered user. Given the non-convexity of both the objective and constraint, we employ the techniques of auxiliary-function-based scaling and fractional programming for simplification. Subsequently, we propose an iterative algorithm to solve this problem. Simulation results corroborate our idea that the extrinsic information, i.e., positions and surroundings, is effective to decouple C&S interference.

An Multi-resources Integration Empowered Task Offloading in Internet of Vehicles: From the Perspective of Wireless Interference

The task offloading technology plays a vital role in the Internet of Vehicles (IoV), by satisfying the diversified demands of the vehicles, such as the energy consumption and processing latency of the computing task. Different from the previous works, on the one hand, they ignored the wireless interference of communications among vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V), as well as between vehicles and roadside units (RSU); on the other hand, the available resources of parked vehicles on the roadside and other moving vehicles on the road are also ignored. In this paper, first of all, we adopt a truncated Gaussian distribution for modeling the vehicle moving speed, instead of the simplistic average speed models in prior studies. Then, with the consideration of wireless interference and effective communication duration existing in V2V and RSUs, we establish an analytical framework of the task offloading, characterized by the energy consumption and processing delay, by integrating computing resources of parked/moving vehicles and RSUs. Furthermore, inspired by the method of multi-agent deterministic policy gradient (MADDPG), we address a joint optimization of the energy consumption and processing delay of the computing task, while ensuring the load balancing of the resources. Finally, the simulations demonstrate the effectiveness and correctness of the proposed MADDPG. In particular, compared with the current popular methods of the task offloading, the MADDPG shows the best performance, in terms of convergence speed, energy consumption and processing delay.
