Towards Quantifying the Impact of Triaxiality on Optical Signatures of Galaxy Clusters: Weak Lensing and Galaxy Distributions

We present observational evidence of the impact of triaxiality on radial profiles that extend to 40 Mpc from galaxy cluster centres in optical measurements. We perform a stacked profile analysis from a sample of thousands of nearly relaxed galaxy clusters from public data releases of the Dark Energy Survey (DES) and the Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey (DECaLS). Using the central galaxy elliptical orientation angle as a proxy for galaxy cluster orientation, we measure cluster weak lensing and excess galaxy density axis-aligned profiles, extracted along the central galaxy's major or minor axes on the plane-of-the-sky. Our measurements show a $\gtrsim2-3σ$ difference per radial bin between the normalized axis-aligned profiles. The profile difference between each axis-aligned profile and the azimuthally averaged profile ($\sim\pm10-20\%$ along major/minor axis) appears inside the clusters ($\sim0.4$ Mpc) and extends to the large-scale structure regime ($\sim10-20$ Mpc). The magnitude of the difference appears to be relatively insensitive to cluster richness and redshift, and extends further out in the weak lensing surface mass density than in the galaxy overdensity. Looking forward, this measurement can easily be applied to other observational or simulation datasets and can inform the systematics in cluster mass modeling related to triaxiality. We expect imminent upcoming wide-area deep surveys, such as the Vera C. Rubin Observatory's Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST), to improve our quantification of optical signatures of cluster triaxiality.

Drug-target interaction prediction by integrating heterogeneous information with mutual attention network

Identification of drug-target interactions is an indispensable part of drug discovery. While conventional shallow machine learning and recent deep learning methods based on chemogenomic properties of drugs and target proteins have pushed this prediction performance improvement to a new level, these methods are still difficult to adapt to novel structures. Alternatively, large-scale biological and pharmacological data provide new ways to accelerate drug-target interaction prediction. Here, we propose DrugMAN, a deep learning model for predicting drug-target interaction by integrating multiplex heterogeneous functional networks with a mutual attention network (MAN). DrugMAN uses a graph attention network-based integration algorithm to learn network-specific low-dimensional features for drugs and target proteins by integrating four drug networks and seven gene/protein networks, respectively. DrugMAN then captures interaction information between drug and target representations by a mutual attention network to improve drug-target prediction. DrugMAN achieves the best prediction performance under four different scenarios, especially in real-world scenarios. DrugMAN spotlights heterogeneous information to mine drug-target interactions and can be a powerful tool for drug discovery and drug repurposing.

Luminescence properties and phase transformation of broadband NIR emitting A2(WO4)3:Cr3+ (A=Al3+, Sc3+) phosphors toward NIR spectroscopy applications

The synthesis, structural, and luminescence properties have been carried out for Cr3+-activated Al2(WO4)3 (AWO) and Sc2(WO4)3 (SWO) phosphors for application in pc-NIR LED. Upon blue excitation, these compounds are capable of exhibiting broadband NIR emission stems primarily from 4T2-->4A2 transition in the range of 670-1200 nm (maxima ~808 nm, FWHM ~140 nm) for AWO:Cr and of 700-1300 nm (maxima ~870 nm, FWHM ~164 nm) for SWO:Cr. The significant shift of NIR emission is attributed to the substitution of AlO6 with larger ScO6 octahedrons. To gain insight into the luminescence the crystal field strength, Racah parameters, nephelauxetic effect, and electron-phonon coupling have been analyzed based on spectroscopic results. The electron-phonon coupling parameter S for SWO:Cr was determined to be 11.5, twice as large as that for AWO:Cr, which is in accordance with its strong thermal quenching. The abrupt changes occurring at 275 K in temperature-dependent luminescence spectra and decay lifetime of AWO:Cr is associated with temperature-driven phase transformation from low-temperature monoclinic to high-temperature orthorhombic phase. Pressure induced amorphization of AWO:Cr at pressures higher than 25 kbar was confirmed by employing high pressure evolution of Raman spectra. A high-power NIR pc-LED, fabricated by coating AWO:0.04Cr on a commercial 470 nm LED chip, shows good performance with an output power of 17.1 mW driven by a current of 320 mA, revealing potential application of studied materials for NIR light source.

Detecting Neutrinos from Supernova Bursts in PandaX-4T

Neutrinos from core-collapse supernovae are essential for the understanding of neutrino physics and stellar evolution. The dual-phase xenon dark matter detectors can provide a way to track explosions of galactic supernovae by detecting neutrinos through coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scatterings. In this study, a variation of progenitor masses as well as explosion models are assumed to predict the neutrino fluxes and spectra, which result in the number of expected neutrino events ranging from 6.6 to 13.7 at a distance of 10 kpc over a 10-second duration with negligible backgrounds at PandaX-4T. Two specialized triggering alarms for monitoring supernova burst neutrinos are built. The efficiency of detecting supernova explosions at various distances in the Milky Way is estimated. These alarms will be implemented in the real-time supernova monitoring system at PandaX-4T in the near future, providing the astronomical communities with supernova early warnings.

A genome-scale deep learning model to predict gene expression changes of genetic perturbations from multiplex biological networks

Systematic characterization of biological effects to genetic perturbation is essential to the application of molecular biology and biomedicine. However, the experimental exhaustion of genetic perturbations on the genome-wide scale is challenging. Here, we show that TranscriptionNet, a deep learning model that integrates multiple biological networks to systematically predict transcriptional profiles to three types of genetic perturbations based on transcriptional profiles induced by genetic perturbations in the L1000 project: RNA interference (RNAi), clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat (CRISPR) and overexpression (OE). TranscriptionNet performs better than existing approaches in predicting inducible gene expression changes for all three types of genetic perturbations. TranscriptionNet can predict transcriptional profiles for all genes in existing biological networks and increases perturbational gene expression changes for each type of genetic perturbation from a few thousand to 26,945 genes. TranscriptionNet demonstrates strong generalization ability when comparing predicted and true gene expression changes on different external tasks. Overall, TranscriptionNet can systemically predict transcriptional consequences induced by perturbing genes on a genome-wide scale and thus holds promise to systemically detect gene function and enhance drug development and target discovery.

Exploring data augmentation in bias mitigation against non-native-accented speech

Automatic speech recognition (ASR) should serve every speaker, not only the majority ``standard'' speakers of a language. In order to build inclusive ASR, mitigating the bias against speaker groups who speak in a ``non-standard'' or ``diverse'' way is crucial. We aim to mitigate the bias against non-native-accented Flemish in a Flemish ASR system. Since this is a low-resource problem, we investigate the optimal type of data augmentation, i.e., speed/pitch perturbation, cross-lingual voice conversion-based methods, and SpecAugment, applied to both native Flemish and non-native-accented Flemish, for bias mitigation. The results showed that specific types of data augmentation applied to both native and non-native-accented speech improve non-native-accented ASR while applying data augmentation to the non-native-accented speech is more conducive to bias reduction. Combining both gave the largest bias reduction for human-machine interaction (HMI) as well as read-type speech.

Search for Dark-Matter-Nucleon Interactions with a Dark Mediator in PandaX-4T

We report results of a search for dark-matter-nucleon interactions via a dark mediator using optimized low-energy data from the PandaX-4T liquid xenon experiment. With the ionization-signal-only data and utilizing the Migdal effect, we set the most stringent limits on the cross section for dark matter masses ranging from 30~$\rm{MeV/c^2}$ to 2~$\rm{GeV/c^2}$. Under the assumption that the dark mediator is a dark photon that decays into scalar dark matter pairs in the early Universe, we rule out significant parameter space of such thermal relic dark-matter model.

Acoustic Model Fusion for End-to-end Speech Recognition

Recent advances in deep learning and automatic speech recognition (ASR) have enabled the end-to-end (E2E) ASR system and boosted the accuracy to a new level. The E2E systems implicitly model all conventional ASR components, such as the acoustic model (AM) and the language model (LM), in a single network trained on audio-text pairs. Despite this simpler system architecture, fusing a separate LM, trained exclusively on text corpora, into the E2E system has proven to be beneficial. However, the application of LM fusion presents certain drawbacks, such as its inability to address the domain mismatch issue inherent to the internal AM. Drawing inspiration from the concept of LM fusion, we propose the integration of an external AM into the E2E system to better address the domain mismatch. By implementing this novel approach, we have achieved a significant reduction in the word error rate, with an impressive drop of up to 14.3% across varied test sets. We also discovered that this AM fusion approach is particularly beneficial in enhancing named entity recognition.

Equivalence of two constructions for $\widehat{sl}_2$--integrable hierarchies

In this paper, we investigate the equivalence of Date--Jimbo--Kashiwara--Miwa (DJKM) construction and Kac--Wakimoto (KW) construction for $\widehat{sl}_2$--integrable hierarchies. DJKM method has gained great success in constructions of integrable hierarchies corresponding to classical ABCD affine Lie algebras, while the KW method is more applicable, which can be even used in exceptional EFG affine Lie algebras. But in KW construction, it is quite difficult to obtain Lax equations for the corresponding integrable hierarchies, while in DJKM construction, one can derive Lax structures for many integrable hierarchies. It is still an open problem for the derivation of Lax equations from bilinear equations in KW construction. Therefore if we can show the equivalent DJKM construction for the integrable hierarchies derived by the KW construction, then it will be helpful to get corresponding Lax structures. Here the equivalence of DJKM and KW methods is showed in the $\widehat{sl}_2$--integrable hierarchy for principal and homogeneous representations by using the language of the lattice vertex algebras.

Dark Energy Survey Year 6 Results: Intra-Cluster Light from Redshift 0.2 to 0.5

Using the full six years of imaging data from the Dark Energy Survey, we study the surface brightness profiles of galaxy cluster central galaxies and intra-cluster light. We apply a ``stacking'' method to over four thousand galaxy clusters identified by the redMaPPer cluster finding algorithm in the redshift range of 0.2 to 0.5. This yields high signal-to-noise radial profile measurements of the central galaxy and intra-cluster light out to 1 Mpc from the cluster center. Using redMaPPer richness as a cluster mass indicator, we find that the intra-cluster light brightness has a strong mass dependence throughout the 0.2 to 0.5 redshift range, and the dependence grows stronger at a larger radius. In terms of redshift evolution, we find some evidence that the central galaxy, as well as the diffuse light within the transition region between the cluster central galaxy and intra-cluster light within 80 kpc from the center, may be growing over time. At larger radii, more than 80 kpc away from the cluster center, we do not find evidence of additional redshift evolution beyond the cluster mass dependence, which is consistent with the findings from the IllustrisTNG hydrodynamic simulation. We speculate that the major driver of intra-cluster light growth, especially at large radii, is associated with cluster mass growth. Finally, we find that the color of the cluster central galaxy and intra-cluster light displays a radial gradient that becomes bluer at a larger radius, which is consistent with a stellar stripping and disruption origin of intra-cluster light as suggested by simulation studies.

Search for light dark matter from atmosphere in PandaX-4T

We report a search for light dark matter produced through the cascading decay of $η$ mesons, which are created as a result of inelastic collisions between cosmic rays and Earth's atmosphere. We introduce a new and general framework, publicly accessible, designed to address boosted dark matter specifically, with which a full and dedicated simulation including both elastic and quasi-elastic processes of Earth attenuation effect on the dark matter particles arriving at the detector is performed. In the PandaX-4T commissioning data of 0.63 tonne$\cdot$year exposure, no significant excess over background is observed. The first constraints on the interaction between light dark matter generated in the atmosphere and nucleus through a light scalar mediator are obtained. The lowest excluded cross-section is set at $5.9 \times 10^{-37}{\rm cm^2}$ for dark matter mass of $0.1$ MeV$/c^2$ and mediator mass of 300 MeV$/c^2$. The lowest upper limit of $η$ to dark matter decay branching ratio is $1.6 \times 10^{-7}$.

A Search for Light Fermionic Dark Matter Absorption on Electrons in PandaX-4T

We report a search on a sub-MeV fermionic dark matter absorbed by electrons with an outgoing active neutrino using the 0.63 tonne-year exposure collected by PandaX-4T liquid xenon experiment. No significant signals are observed over the expected background. The data are interpreted into limits to the effective couplings between such dark matter and electrons. For axial-vector or vector interactions, our sensitivity is competitive in comparison to existing astrophysical bounds on the decay of such dark matter into photon final states. In particular, we present the first direct detection limits for an axial-vector (vector) interaction which are the strongest in the mass range from 25 to 45 (35 to 50) keV/c$^2$.

The Effect of Splashback on Weak Lensing Mass Estimates of Galaxy Clusters and Groups

The splashback radius of a dark matter halo, which corresponds to the first apocenter radius reached by infalling matter and substructures, has been detected around galaxy clusters using a multitude of observational methods, including weak lensing measurements. In this manuscript, we present how the splashback feature in the halo density profile affects galaxy cluster masses derived through weak lensing measurements if it is not accounted for. We find that the splashback radius has an increasingly large effect on group-sized halos towards $M_{200m} \sim 10^{13.5} \mathrm{M_\odot}$. Depending on the model and the radial scale used, the cluster/group masses can be biased low by more than 0.1 dex. This bias, in turn, would result in a slightly lower $Ω_m$ value if propagated into a cluster cosmology analysis. The splashback effect with group-sized dark matter halos may become important to consider, given the increasingly stringent cosmological constraints coming from optical wide-field surveys.

Cross-lingual Knowledge Transfer and Iterative Pseudo-labeling for Low-Resource Speech Recognition with Transducers

Voice technology has become ubiquitous recently. However, the accuracy, and hence experience, in different languages varies significantly, which makes the technology not equally inclusive. The availability of data for different languages is one of the key factors affecting accuracy, especially in training of all-neural end-to-end automatic speech recognition systems. Cross-lingual knowledge transfer and iterative pseudo-labeling are two techniques that have been shown to be successful for improving the accuracy of ASR systems, in particular for low-resource languages, like Ukrainian. Our goal is to train an all-neural Transducer-based ASR system to replace a DNN-HMM hybrid system with no manually annotated training data. We show that the Transducer system trained using transcripts produced by the hybrid system achieves 18% reduction in terms of word error rate. However, using a combination of cross-lingual knowledge transfer from related languages and iterative pseudo-labeling, we are able to achieve 35% reduction of the error rate.

Deformations and cohomology theory of $Ω$-family Rota-Baxter algebras of arbitrary weight

In this paper, we firstly construct an $L_\infty[1]$-algebra via the method of higher derived brackets, whose Maurer-Cartan elements correspond to relative $Ω$-family Rota-Baxter algebras structures of weight $λ$. For a relative $Ω$-family Rota-Baxter algebra of weight $λ$, the corresponding twisted $ L_{\infty}[1] $-algebra controls its deformations, which leads to the cohomology theory of relative $Ω$-family Rota-Baxter algebras of weight $λ$. Moreover, we also obtain the corresponding results for absolute $Ω$-family Rota-Baxter algebras of weight $λ$ from the relative version. At last, we study formal deformations of relative (resp. absolute) $Ω$-family Rota-Baxter algebras of weight $λ$, which can be explained by the lower degree cohomology groups.

A First Search for Solar $^8$B Neutrino in the PandaX-4T Experiment using Neutrino-Nucleus Coherent Scattering

A search for interactions from solar $^8$B neutrinos elastically scattering off xenon nuclei using PandaX-4T commissioning data is reported. The energy threshold of this search is further lowered compared with the previous search for dark matter, with various techniques utilized to suppress the background that emerges from data with the lowered threshold. A blind analysis is performed on the data with an effective exposure of 0.48 tonne$\cdot$year, and no significant excess of events is observed. Among results obtained using the neutrino-nucleus coherent scattering, our results give the best constraint on the solar $^8$B neutrino flux. We further provide a more stringent limit on the cross section between dark matter and nucleon in the mass range from 3 to 9 GeV/c$^2$.
