Traveling waves of NLS System arising in optical material without Galilean symmetry

We consider a system of NLS with cubic interactions arising in nonlinear optics without Galilean symmetry. The absence of Galilean symmetry can lead to many difficulties, such as global existence and blowup problems; see [Comm. Partial Differential Equations 46, 11 (2021), 2134-2170]. In this paper, we mainly focus on the influence of the absence of this symmetry on the traveling waves of the NLS system. Firstly, we obtain the existence of traveling solitary wave solutions that are non-radial and complex-valued. Secondly, using the asymptotic analysis method, when the frequency is sufficiently large, we establish the high frequency limit of the traveling solitary wave solution. Finally, for the mass critical case, we provide a novel condition for the existence of global solutions which is significantly different from the classical. In particular, this new condition breaks the traditional optimal assumption about initial data.

Design and Testing for Steel Support Axial Force Servo System

Foundation excavations are deepening, expanding, and approaching structures. Steel supports measure and manage axial force. The study regulates steel support structure power during deep excavation using a novel axial force management system for safety, efficiency, and structural integrity. Closed-loop control changes actuator output to maintain axial force based on force. In deep excavation, the servo system regulates unstable soil, side pressure, and structural demands. Modern engineering and tech are used. Temperature changes automatically adjust the jack to maintain axial force. Includes hydraulic jacks, triple-acting cylinders, temperature, and deformation sensors, and automatic control. Foundation pit excavation is dynamic, yet structure tension is constant. There is no scientific way to regulate axial force foundation pit excavation. The revolutionary Servo system adjusts temperature, compression, and axial force to deform pits. System control requires foundation pit direction detection and modification. This engineering method has performed effectively for deep foundation pit excavation at railway crossings and other infrastructure projects. The surrounding protective structure may reduce the steel support's axial stress, making deep foundation excavation safe and efficient. Ferromagnetic inter-layer coupling in FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_{x}$ superconductors revealed by inelastic neutron scattering

FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_{x}$ superconductors are commonly considered layered van der Waals materials with negligible inter-layer coupling. Here, using inelastic neutron scattering to study spin excitations in single-crystal samples, we reveal that the magnetic coupling between adjacent Fe layers is not only significant, as it affects excitations up to \textcolor{black}{15} meV, but also ferromagnetic in nature, making the system different from most unconventional superconductors including iron pnictides. Our observation provides a new standpoint to understand the absence of magnetic order in FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_{x}$. Since intercalating between the Fe layers is known to enhance superconductivity and suppress the inter-layer coupling, superconductivity appears to be a more robust phenomenon in the two-dimensional limit than antiferromagnetic order.

Second-Order Identification Capacity of AWGN Channels

In this paper, we establish the second-order randomized identification capacity (RID capacity) of the Additive White Gaussian Noise Channel (AWGNC). On the one hand, we obtain a refined version of Hayashi's theorem to prove the achievability part. On the other, we investigate the relationship between identification and channel resolvability, then we propose a finer quantization method to prove the converse part. Consequently, the second-order RID capacity of the AWGNC has the same form as the second-order transmission capacity. The only difference is that the maximum number of messages in RID scales double exponentially in the blocklength.

Phonon Heat Transport and Anisotropic Tuning of Quantum Fluctuations in a Frustrated Honeycomb Magnet

Honeycomb cobalt oxides containing 3$\it{d}$ Co$^{2+}$ ions might realize frustrated magnetism and novel quantum phases. Among candidate materials, Na$_{3}$Co$_{2}$SbO$_{6}$ stands out for its distorted honeycomb lattice and significant in-plane anisotropy, motivating vector-field tuning inside the honeycomb plane. Here we use thermal transport down to the mK regime to study twin-free crystals of Na$_{3}$Co$_{2}$SbO$_{6}$ subject to in-plane vector fields. We find that the thermal conductivity $κ$ never exceeds the heat-transport capability of phonons, rendering its suppression primarily due to phonon scattering off magnetic excitations and/or domain boundaries. The system's field-driven quantum criticality manifests itself as an abundance of magnetic fluctuations hindering the heat transport, which further depends on the field direction in an intriguing manner.

Probing critical spin fluctuations with a composite magnetoelectric method: A case study on a Kitaev spin liquid candidate Na$_3$Co$_2$SbO$_6$

In correlated quantum materials, divergent critical fluctuations near the quantum critical point are often closely associated with exotic quantum phases of matter, such as unconventional superconductivity and quantum spin liquids. Here we present a simple yet highly sensitive composite magnetoelectric (ME) method for detecting the critical spin fluctuations in quantum magnets. The ME signal is proportional the magnetostriction coefficient, which directly probes the product of magnetization and spin-spin correlation. As a demonstration, the composite ME method is applied to a Kitaev quantum spin liquid candidate Na$_3$Co$_2$SbO$_6$, which shows signs of magnetic field-induced quantum criticality. Notably, the ME signal prominently diverges at the magnetic field-induced tricritical points, particularly at a tricritical point that lies in close proximity to a zero-temperature quantum critical point. A crucial aspect of these tricritical points is their tunability through the modification of the in-plane magnetic field's direction. The direction of magnetic field can thus serve as a handful yet important tuning parameter, alongside pressure and chemical doping, for searching quantum critical points in quantum magnets with pronounced magnetic anisotropy.

Orbit symmetry breaking in MXene implements enhanced soft bioelectronic implants

Bioelectronic implants with soft mechanics, biocompatibility, and excellent electrical performance enable biomedical implants to record electrophysiological signals and execute interventions within internal organs, promising to revolutionize the diagnosing, monitoring, and treatment of various pathological conditions. However, challenges remain in improving excessive impedance at the bioelectronic-tissue interface and thus the efficacy of electrophysiological signaling and intervention. Here, we devise orbit symmetry breaking in MXene (a low-cost scalability, biocompatible, and conductive 2D layered material, that we refer to as OBXene), that exhibits low bioelectronic-tissue impedance, originating from the out-of-plane charge transfer. Furthermore, the Schottky-induced piezoelectricity stemming from the asymmetric orbital configuration of OBXene facilitates interlayered charge transport in the device. In this study, we report an OBXene-based cardiac patch applied on the left ventricular epicardium of both rodent and porcine models to enable spatiotemporal epicardium mapping and pacing, while coupling the wireless and battery-free operation for long-term real-time recording and closed-loop stimulation.

Symmetry engineering in 2D bioelectronics facilitating augmented biosensing interfaces

Symmetry lies at the heart of 2D bioelectronics, determining material properties at the fundamental level. Breaking the symmetry allows emergent functionalities and effects. However, symmetry modulation in 2D bioelectronics and the resultant applications have been largely overlooked. Here we devise an oxidized architectural MXene, referred as OXene, that couples orbit symmetric breaking with inverse symmetric breaking to entitle the optimized interfacial impedance and Schottky-induced piezoelectric effects. The resulting OXene validates applications ranging from microelectrode arrays, gait analysis, active transistor matrix, and wireless signaling transmission, which enables highly-fidelity signal transmission and reconfigurable logic gates. Further OXene interfaces are investigated in both rodent and porcine myocardium, featuring high-quality and spatiotemporally resolved physiological recordings, while accurate differentiated predictions, enabled via various machine learning pipelines.

1+1>2: Can Large Language Models Serve as Cross-Lingual Knowledge Aggregators?

Large Language Models (LLMs) have garnered significant attention due to their remarkable ability to process information across various languages. Despite their capabilities, they exhibit inconsistencies in handling identical queries in different languages, presenting challenges for further advancement. This paper introduces a method to enhance the multilingual performance of LLMs by aggregating knowledge from diverse languages. This approach incorporates a low-resource knowledge detector specific to a language, a language selection process, and mechanisms for answer replacement and integration. Our experiments demonstrate notable performance improvements, particularly in reducing language performance disparity. An ablation study confirms that each component of our method significantly contributes to these enhancements. This research highlights the inherent potential of LLMs to harmonize multilingual capabilities and offers valuable insights for further exploration.

Remark on a special class of Finsler $p$-Laplacian equation

We investigate the anisotropic elliptic equation $-Δ_p^H u = g(u)$. Recently, Esposito, Riey, Sciunzi, and Vuono introduced an anisotropic Kelvin transform in their work \cite{ERSV2022} under the $(H_M)$ condition, where $H(ξ)=\sqrt{\langle Mξ,ξ\rangle}$ with a positive definite symmetric matrix $M$. Here, we emphasize that under the $(H_M)$ assumption, the Finsler $p$-Laplacian and the classical $p$-Laplacian operator are equivalent following a linear transformation. This equivalence offers us a more direct route to derive the pivotal findings presented in \cite{ERSV2022}. While this equivalence is crucial and noteworthy, to our knowledge, it has not been explicitly stated in the current literature.

Experimental quantum computational chemistry with optimised unitary coupled cluster ansatz

Quantum computational chemistry has emerged as an important application of quantum computing. Hybrid quantum-classical computing methods, such as variational quantum eigensolvers (VQE), have been designed as promising solutions to quantum chemistry problems, yet challenges due to theoretical complexity and experimental imperfections hinder progress in achieving reliable and accurate results. Experimental works for solving electronic structures are consequently still restricted to nonscalable (hardware efficient) or classically simulable (Hartree-Fock) ansatz, or limited to a few qubits with large errors. The experimental realisation of scalable and high-precision quantum chemistry simulation remains elusive. Here, we address the critical challenges {associated with} solving molecular electronic structures using noisy quantum processors. Our protocol presents significant improvements in the circuit depth and running time, key metrics for chemistry simulation. Through systematic hardware enhancements and the integration of error mitigation techniques, we push forward the limit of experimental quantum computational chemistry and successfully scale up the implementation of VQE with an optimised unitary coupled-cluster ansatz to 12 qubits. We produce high-precision results of the ground-state energy for molecules with error suppression by around two orders of magnitude. We achieve chemical accuracy for H$_2$ at all bond distances and LiH at small bond distances in the experiment, even beyond the two recent concurrent works. Our work demonstrates a feasible path towards a scalable solution to electronic structure calculation, validating the key technological features and identifying future challenges for this goal.

Uncertainty-guided Optimal Transport in Depth Supervised Sparse-View 3D Gaussian

3D Gaussian splatting has demonstrated impressive performance in real-time novel view synthesis. However, achieving successful reconstruction from RGB images generally requires multiple input views captured under static conditions. To address the challenge of sparse input views, previous approaches have incorporated depth supervision into the training of 3D Gaussians to mitigate overfitting, using dense predictions from pretrained depth networks as pseudo-ground truth. Nevertheless, depth predictions from monocular depth estimation models inherently exhibit significant uncertainty in specific areas. Relying solely on pixel-wise L2 loss may inadvertently incorporate detrimental noise from these uncertain areas. In this work, we introduce a novel method to supervise the depth distribution of 3D Gaussians, utilizing depth priors with integrated uncertainty estimates. To address these localized errors in depth predictions, we integrate a patch-wise optimal transport strategy to complement traditional L2 loss in depth supervision. Extensive experiments conducted on the LLFF, DTU, and Blender datasets demonstrate that our approach, UGOT, achieves superior novel view synthesis and consistently outperforms state-of-the-art methods.

GaussianPrediction: Dynamic 3D Gaussian Prediction for Motion Extrapolation and Free View Synthesis

Forecasting future scenarios in dynamic environments is essential for intelligent decision-making and navigation, a challenge yet to be fully realized in computer vision and robotics. Traditional approaches like video prediction and novel-view synthesis either lack the ability to forecast from arbitrary viewpoints or to predict temporal dynamics. In this paper, we introduce GaussianPrediction, a novel framework that empowers 3D Gaussian representations with dynamic scene modeling and future scenario synthesis in dynamic environments. GaussianPrediction can forecast future states from any viewpoint, using video observations of dynamic scenes. To this end, we first propose a 3D Gaussian canonical space with deformation modeling to capture the appearance and geometry of dynamic scenes, and integrate the lifecycle property into Gaussians for irreversible deformations. To make the prediction feasible and efficient, a concentric motion distillation approach is developed by distilling the scene motion with key points. Finally, a Graph Convolutional Network is employed to predict the motions of key points, enabling the rendering of photorealistic images of future scenarios. Our framework shows outstanding performance on both synthetic and real-world datasets, demonstrating its efficacy in predicting and rendering future environments.

1/3 and other magnetization plateaus in a quasi-one-dimensional Ising magnet $\mathbf{TbTi_3Bi_4}$ with zigzag spin chain

We report the magnetic properties of newly synthesized, single crystals of $\mathrm{TbTi_3Bi_4}$ whose crystal structure is highlighted by the stacking of terbium-based zigzag chains and titanium-based kagome lattices. This compound demonstrates extreme easy-axis magnetic anisotropy due to the crystalline-electric-field effect which aligns the $\mathrm{Tb^{3+}}$ moments along the zigzag chain direction. As the result of the strong single-ion anisotropy and multiple magnetic interactions, $\mathrm{TbTi_3Bi_4}$ behaves as a quasi-one-dimensional Ising magnet with a remarkable antiferromagnetic ordering at $T_\mathrm{N}$ = 20.4 K. When a magnetic field is applied along the direction of the zigzag chain, multiple meta-magnetic transitions occur between 1/3 and other magnetization plateaus. We have created a field-temperature phase diagram and mapped out the complex magnetic structures resulting from frustration.

Using magnetic dynamics to measure the spin gap in a candidate Kitaev material

Materials potentially hosting Kitaev spin-liquid states are considered crucial for realizing topological quantum computing. However, the intricate nature of spin interactions within these materials complicates the precise measurement of low-energy spin excitations indicative of fractionalized excitations. Using Na$_{2}$Co$_2$TeO$_{6}$ as an example, we study these low-energy spin excitations using the time-resolved resonant elastic x-ray scattering (tr-REXS). Our observations unveil remarkably slow spin dynamics at the magnetic peak, whose recovery timescale is several nanoseconds. This timescale aligns with the extrapolated spin gap of $\sim$ 1 $μ$eV, obtained by density matrix renormalization group (DMRG) simulations in the thermodynamic limit. The consistency demonstrates the efficacy of tr-REXS in discerning low-energy spin gaps inaccessible to conventional spectroscopic techniques.

Minimizing Kinetic Inductance in Tantalum-Based Superconducting Coplanar Waveguide Resonators for Alleviating Frequency Fluctuation Issues

Advancements in the fabrication of superconducting quantum devices have highlighted tantalum as a promising material, owing to its low surface oxidation microwave loss at low temperatures. However, tantalum films exhibit significantly larger kinetic inductances compared to materials such as aluminum or niobium. Given the inevitable variations in film thickness, this increased kinetic inductance leads to considerable, uncontrolled frequency variances and shifts in components like superconducting coplanar waveguide (SCPW) resonators. Achieving high precision in resonator frequencies is crucial, particularly when multiple resonators share a common Purcell filter with limited bandwidth in superconducting quantum information processors. Here, we tackle this challenge from both fabrication and design perspectives, achieving a reduction in resonator frequency fluctuation by a factor of more than 100. Concurrently, the internal quality factor of the SCPW resonator remains at high level. Our findings open up new avenues for the enhanced utilization of tantalum in large-scale superconducting chips.

On the Weight Distribution of Weights Less than $2w_{\min}$ in Polar Codes

The number of low-weight codewords is critical to the performance of error-correcting codes. In 1970, Kasami and Tokura characterized the codewords of Reed-Muller (RM) codes whose weights are less than $2w_{\min}$, where $w_{\min}$ represents the minimum weight. In this paper, we extend their results to decreasing polar codes. We present the closed-form expressions for the number of codewords in decreasing polar codes with weights less than $2w_{\min}$. Moreover, the proposed enumeration algorithm runs in polynomial time with respect to the code length.

Stability-Oriented Prediction Horizons Design of Generalized Predictive Control for DC/DC Boost Converter

This paper introduces a novel approach in designing prediction horizons on a generalized predictive control for a DC/DC boost converter. This method involves constructing a closed-loop system model and assessing the impact of different prediction horizons on system stability. In contrast to conventional design approaches that often rely on empirical prediction horizon selection or incorporate non-linear observers, the proposed method establishes a rigorous boundary for the prediction horizon to ensure system stability. This approach facilitates the selection of an appropriate prediction horizon while avoiding excessively short horizons that can lead to instability and preventing the adoption of unnecessarily long horizons that would burden the controller with high computational demands. Finally, the accuracy of the design method has been confirmed through experimental testing. Moreover, it has been demonstrated that the prediction horizon determined by this method reduces the computational burden by 10\%-20\% compared to the empirically selected prediction horizon.
