HomoMatcher: Dense Feature Matching Results with Semi-Dense Efficiency by Homography Estimation

Feature matching between image pairs is a fundamental problem in computer vision that drives many applications, such as SLAM. Recently, semi-dense matching approaches have achieved substantial performance enhancements and established a widely-accepted coarse-to-fine paradigm. However, the majority of existing methods focus on improving coarse feature representation rather than the fine-matching module. Prior fine-matching techniques, which rely on point-to-patch matching probability expectation or direct regression, often lack precision and do not guarantee the continuity of feature points across sequential images. To address this limitation, this paper concentrates on enhancing the fine-matching module in the semi-dense matching framework. We employ a lightweight and efficient homography estimation network to generate the perspective mapping between patches obtained from coarse matching. This patch-to-patch approach achieves the overall alignment of two patches, resulting in a higher sub-pixel accuracy by incorporating additional constraints. By leveraging the homography estimation between patches, we can achieve a dense matching result with low computational cost. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves higher accuracy compared to previous semi-dense matchers. Meanwhile, our dense matching results exhibit similar end-point-error accuracy compared to previous dense matchers while maintaining semi-dense efficiency.

The derived dimensions and representation distances of artin algebras

There is a well-known class of algebras called Igusa-Todorov algebras which were introduced in relation to finitistic dimension conjecture. As a generalization of Igusa-Todorov algebras, the new notion of $(m,n)$-Igusa-Todorov algebras provides a wider framework for studying derived dimensions. In this paper, we give methods for constructing $(m,n)$-Igusa-Todorov algebras. As an application, we present for general artin algebras a relationship between the derived dimension and the representation distance. Moreover, we end this paper to show that the main result can be used to give a better upper bound for the derived dimension for some classes of algebras.

Pathformer: Multi-scale Transformers with Adaptive Pathways for Time Series Forecasting

Transformers for time series forecasting mainly model time series from limited or fixed scales, making it challenging to capture different characteristics spanning various scales. We propose Pathformer, a multi-scale Transformer with adaptive pathways. It integrates both temporal resolution and temporal distance for multi-scale modeling. Multi-scale division divides the time series into different temporal resolutions using patches of various sizes. Based on the division of each scale, dual attention is performed over these patches to capture global correlations and local details as temporal dependencies. We further enrich the multi-scale Transformer with adaptive pathways, which adaptively adjust the multi-scale modeling process based on the varying temporal dynamics of the input, improving the accuracy and generalization of Pathformer. Extensive experiments on eleven real-world datasets demonstrate that Pathformer not only achieves state-of-the-art performance by surpassing all current models but also exhibits stronger generalization abilities under various transfer scenarios. The code is made available at https://github.com/decisionintelligence/pathformer.

Cluster-Wide Task Slowdown Detection in Cloud System

Slow task detection is a critical problem in cloud operation and maintenance since it is highly related to user experience and can bring substantial liquidated damages. Most anomaly detection methods detect it from a single-task aspect. However, considering millions of concurrent tasks in large-scale cloud computing clusters, it becomes impractical and inefficient. Moreover, single-task slowdowns are very common and do not necessarily indicate a malfunction of a cluster due to its violent fluctuation nature in a virtual environment. Thus, we shift our attention to cluster-wide task slowdowns by utilizing the duration time distribution of tasks across a cluster, so that the computation complexity is not relevant to the number of tasks. The task duration time distribution often exhibits compound periodicity and local exceptional fluctuations over time. Though transformer-based methods are one of the most powerful methods to capture these time series normal variation patterns, we empirically find and theoretically explain the flaw of the standard attention mechanism in reconstructing subperiods with low amplitude when dealing with compound periodicity. To tackle these challenges, we propose SORN (i.e., Skimming Off subperiods in descending amplitude order and Reconstructing Non-slowing fluctuation), which consists of a Skimming Attention mechanism to reconstruct the compound periodicity and a Neural Optimal Transport module to distinguish cluster-wide slowdowns from other exceptional fluctuations. Furthermore, since anomalies in the training set are inevitable in a practical scenario, we propose a picky loss function, which adaptively assigns higher weights to reliable time slots in the training set. Extensive experiments demonstrate that SORN outperforms state-of-the-art methods on multiple real-world industrial datasets.

POA: Pre-training Once for Models of All Sizes

Large-scale self-supervised pre-training has paved the way for one foundation model to handle many different vision tasks. Most pre-training methodologies train a single model of a certain size at one time. Nevertheless, various computation or storage constraints in real-world scenarios require substantial efforts to develop a series of models with different sizes to deploy. Thus, in this study, we propose a novel tri-branch self-supervised training framework, termed as POA (Pre-training Once for All), to tackle this aforementioned issue. Our approach introduces an innovative elastic student branch into a modern self-distillation paradigm. At each pre-training step, we randomly sample a sub-network from the original student to form the elastic student and train all branches in a self-distilling fashion. Once pre-trained, POA allows the extraction of pre-trained models of diverse sizes for downstream tasks. Remarkably, the elastic student facilitates the simultaneous pre-training of multiple models with different sizes, which also acts as an additional ensemble of models of various sizes to enhance representation learning. Extensive experiments, including k-nearest neighbors, linear probing evaluation and assessments on multiple downstream tasks demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of our POA. It achieves state-of-the-art performance using ViT, Swin Transformer and ResNet backbones, producing around a hundred models with different sizes through a single pre-training session. The code is available at: https://github.com/Qichuzyy/POA.

RCAgent: Cloud Root Cause Analysis by Autonomous Agents with Tool-Augmented Large Language Models

Large language model (LLM) applications in cloud root cause analysis (RCA) have been actively explored recently. However, current methods are still reliant on manual workflow settings and do not unleash LLMs' decision-making and environment interaction capabilities. We present RCAgent, a tool-augmented LLM autonomous agent framework for practical and privacy-aware industrial RCA usage. Running on an internally deployed model rather than GPT families, RCAgent is capable of free-form data collection and comprehensive analysis with tools. Our framework combines a variety of enhancements, including a unique Self-Consistency for action trajectories, and a suite of methods for context management, stabilization, and importing domain knowledge. Our experiments show RCAgent's evident and consistent superiority over ReAct across all aspects of RCA -- predicting root causes, solutions, evidence, and responsibilities -- and tasks covered or uncovered by current rules, as validated by both automated metrics and human evaluations. Furthermore, RCAgent has already been integrated into the diagnosis and issue discovery workflow of the Real-time Compute Platform for Apache Flink of Alibaba Cloud.

Enhancing DETRs Variants through Improved Content Query and Similar Query Aggregation

The design of the query is crucial for the performance of DETR and its variants. Each query consists of two components: a content part and a positional one. Traditionally, the content query is initialized with a zero or learnable embedding, lacking essential content information and resulting in sub-optimal performance. In this paper, we introduce a novel plug-and-play module, Self-Adaptive Content Query (SACQ), to address this limitation. The SACQ module utilizes features from the transformer encoder to generate content queries via self-attention pooling. This allows candidate queries to adapt to the input image, resulting in a more comprehensive content prior and better focus on target objects. However, this improved concentration poses a challenge for the training process that utilizes the Hungarian matching, which selects only a single candidate and suppresses other similar ones. To overcome this, we propose a query aggregation strategy to cooperate with SACQ. It merges similar predicted candidates from different queries, easing the optimization. Our extensive experiments on the COCO dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed approaches across six different DETR's variants with multiple configurations, achieving an average improvement of over 1.0 AP.

SkySense: A Multi-Modal Remote Sensing Foundation Model Towards Universal Interpretation for Earth Observation Imagery

Prior studies on Remote Sensing Foundation Model (RSFM) reveal immense potential towards a generic model for Earth Observation. Nevertheless, these works primarily focus on a single modality without temporal and geo-context modeling, hampering their capabilities for diverse tasks. In this study, we present SkySense, a generic billion-scale model, pre-trained on a curated multi-modal Remote Sensing Imagery (RSI) dataset with 21.5 million temporal sequences. SkySense incorporates a factorized multi-modal spatiotemporal encoder taking temporal sequences of optical and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data as input. This encoder is pre-trained by our proposed Multi-Granularity Contrastive Learning to learn representations across different modal and spatial granularities. To further enhance the RSI representations by the geo-context clue, we introduce Geo-Context Prototype Learning to learn region-aware prototypes upon RSI's multi-modal spatiotemporal features. To our best knowledge, SkySense is the largest Multi-Modal RSFM to date, whose modules can be flexibly combined or used individually to accommodate various tasks. It demonstrates remarkable generalization capabilities on a thorough evaluation encompassing 16 datasets over 7 tasks, from single- to multi-modal, static to temporal, and classification to localization. SkySense surpasses 18 recent RSFMs in all test scenarios. Specifically, it outperforms the latest models such as GFM, SatLas and Scale-MAE by a large margin, i.e., 2.76%, 3.67% and 3.61% on average respectively. We will release the pre-trained weights to facilitate future research and Earth Observation applications.

Mutation of Brauer configuration algebras

For Brauer graph algebras, tilting mutation is compatible with flip of Brauer graphs. The aim of this paper is to generalize this result to the class of Brauer configuration algebras introduced by Green and Schroll recently. More precisely, under a certain condition, we introduce flip of Brauer configurations and prove that it is compatible with tilting mutation of the corresponding Brauer configuration algebras.

An efficient tensor regression for high-dimensional data

Most currently used tensor regression models for high-dimensional data are based on Tucker decomposition, which has good properties but loses its efficiency in compressing tensors very quickly as the order of tensors increases, say greater than four or five. However, for the simplest tensor autoregression in handling time series data, its coefficient tensor already has the order of six. This paper revises a newly proposed tensor train (TT) decomposition and then applies it to tensor regression such that a nice statistical interpretation can be obtained. The new tensor regression can well match the data with hierarchical structures, and it even can lead to a better interpretation for the data with factorial structures, which are supposed to be better fitted by models with Tucker decomposition. More importantly, the new tensor regression can be easily applied to the case with higher order tensors since TT decomposition can compress the coefficient tensors much more efficiently. The methodology is also extended to tensor autoregression for time series data, and nonasymptotic properties are derived for the ordinary least squares estimations of both tensor regression and autoregression. A new algorithm is introduced to search for estimators, and its theoretical justification is also discussed. Theoretical and computational properties of the proposed methodology are verified by simulation studies, and the advantages over existing methods are illustrated by two real examples.

LARA: A Light and Anti-overfitting Retraining Approach for Unsupervised Time Series Anomaly Detection

Most of current anomaly detection models assume that the normal pattern remains same all the time. However, the normal patterns of Web services change dramatically and frequently. The model trained on old-distribution data is outdated after such changes. Retraining the whole model every time is expensive. Besides, at the beginning of normal pattern changes, there is not enough observation data from the new distribution. Retraining a large neural network model with limited data is vulnerable to overfitting. Thus, we propose a Light and Anti-overfitting Retraining Approach (LARA) for deep variational auto-encoder based time series anomaly detection methods (VAEs). This work aims to make three novel contributions: 1) the retraining process is formulated as a convex problem and can converge at a fast rate as well as prevent overfitting; 2) designing a ruminate block, which leverages the historical data without the need to store them; 3) mathematically proving that when fine-tuning the latent vector and reconstructed data, the linear formations can achieve the least adjusting errors between the ground truths and the fine-tuned ones. Moreover, we have performed many experiments to verify that retraining LARA with even 43 time slots of data from new distribution can result in its competitive F1 Score in comparison with the state-of-the-art anomaly detection models trained with sufficient data. Besides, we verify its light overhead.

A Dataset of Open-Domain Question Answering with Multiple-Span Answers

Multi-span answer extraction, also known as the task of multi-span question answering (MSQA), is critical for real-world applications, as it requires extracting multiple pieces of information from a text to answer complex questions. Despite the active studies and rapid progress in English MSQA research, there is a notable lack of publicly available MSQA benchmark in Chinese. Previous efforts for constructing MSQA datasets predominantly emphasized entity-centric contextualization, resulting in a bias towards collecting factoid questions and potentially overlooking questions requiring more detailed descriptive responses. To overcome these limitations, we present CLEAN, a comprehensive Chinese multi-span question answering dataset that involves a wide range of open-domain subjects with a substantial number of instances requiring descriptive answers. Additionally, we provide established models from relevant literature as baselines for CLEAN. Experimental results and analysis show the characteristics and challenge of the newly proposed CLEAN dataset for the community. Our dataset, CLEAN, will be publicly released at zhiyiluo.site/misc/clean_v1.0_ sample.json.

Multimodal Urban Areas of Interest Generation via Remote Sensing Imagery and Geographical Prior

Urban area-of-interest (AOI) refers to an integrated urban functional zone with defined polygonal boundaries. The rapid development of urban commerce has led to increasing demands for highly accurate and timely AOI data. However, existing research primarily focuses on coarse-grained functional zones for urban planning or regional economic analysis, and often neglects the expiration of AOI in the real world. They fail to fulfill the precision demands of Mobile Internet Online-to-Offline (O2O) businesses. These businesses require accuracy down to a specific community, school, or hospital. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive end-to-end multimodal deep learning framework designed for simultaneously detecting accurate AOI boundaries and validating the reliability of AOI by leveraging remote sensing imagery coupled with geographical prior, titled AOITR. Unlike conventional AOI generation methods, such as the Road-cut method that segments road networks at various levels, our approach diverges from semantic segmentation algorithms that depend on pixel-level classification. Instead, our AOITR begins by selecting a point-of-interest (POI) of specific category, and uses it to retrieve corresponding remote sensing imagery and geographical prior such as entrance POIs and road nodes. This information helps to build a multimodal detection model based on transformer encoder-decoder architecture to regress the AOI polygon. Additionally, we utilize the dynamic features from human mobility, nearby POIs, and logistics addresses for AOI reliability evaluation via a cascaded network module. The experimental results reveal that our algorithm achieves a significant improvement on Intersection over Union (IoU) metric, surpassing previous methods by a large margin.

Large Language Models Leverage External Knowledge to Extend Clinical Insight Beyond Language Boundaries

$\textbf{Objectives}$: Large Language Models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT and Med-PaLM have excelled in various medical question-answering tasks. However, these English-centric models encounter challenges in non-English clinical settings, primarily due to limited clinical knowledge in respective languages, a consequence of imbalanced training corpora. We systematically evaluate LLMs in the Chinese medical context and develop a novel in-context learning framework to enhance their performance. $\textbf{Materials and Methods}$: The latest China National Medical Licensing Examination (CNMLE-2022) served as the benchmark. We collected 53 medical books and 381,149 medical questions to construct the medical knowledge base and question bank. The proposed Knowledge and Few-shot Enhancement In-context Learning (KFE) framework leverages the in-context learning ability of LLMs to integrate diverse external clinical knowledge sources. We evaluated KFE with ChatGPT(GPT3.5), GPT4, Baichuan2(BC2)-7B, and BC2-13B in CNMLE-2022 and investigated the effectiveness of different pathways for incorporating LLMs with medical knowledge from 7 perspectives. $\textbf{Results}$: Directly applying ChatGPT failed to qualify for the CNMLE-2022 at a score of 51. Cooperated with the KFE, the LLMs with varying sizes yielded consistent and significant improvements. The ChatGPT's performance surged to 70.04 and GPT-4 achieved the highest score of 82.59. This surpasses the qualification threshold (60) and exceeds the average human score of 68.70. It also enabled a smaller BC2-13B to pass the examination, showcasing the great potential in low-resource settings. $\textbf{Conclusion}$: By synergizing medical knowledge through in-context learning, LLM can extend clinical insight beyond language barriers, significantly reducing language-related disparities of LLM applications and ensuring global benefit in healthcare.

Explaining Time Series via Contrastive and Locally Sparse Perturbations

Explaining multivariate time series is a compound challenge, as it requires identifying important locations in the time series and matching complex temporal patterns. Although previous saliency-based methods addressed the challenges, their perturbation may not alleviate the distribution shift issue, which is inevitable especially in heterogeneous samples. We present ContraLSP, a locally sparse model that introduces counterfactual samples to build uninformative perturbations but keeps distribution using contrastive learning. Furthermore, we incorporate sample-specific sparse gates to generate more binary-skewed and smooth masks, which easily integrate temporal trends and select the salient features parsimoniously. Empirical studies on both synthetic and real-world datasets show that ContraLSP outperforms state-of-the-art models, demonstrating a substantial improvement in explanation quality for time series data. Then we give a bijection between Gorenstein projective $τ$-rigid modules and certain modules by using an equivalence established by Kong and Zhang. Finally, we give a partial answer to Tachikawa's first conjecture by using Gorenstein projective $τ$-rigid modules.

Electronic Lieb lattice signatures embedded in two-dimensional polymers with square lattice

Exotic band features, such as Dirac cones and flat bands, arise directly from the lattice symmetry of materials. The Lieb lattice is one of the most intriguing topologies, because it possesses both Dirac cones and flat bands which intersect at the Fermi level. However, materials with Lieb lattice remain experimentally unreached. Here, we explore two-dimensional poly-mers (2DPs) derived from zinc-phthalocyanine (ZnPc) building blocks with a square lattice (sql) as potential electronic Lieb lattice materials. By systematically varying the linker lengths (ZnPc-xP), we found that some ZnPc-xP exhibit a characteristic Lieb lattice band structure. Interestingly though, fes bands are also observed in ZnPc-xP. The coexistence of fes and Lieb in sql 2DPs challenges the conventional perception of the structure-electronic structure relation. In addition, we show that manipula-tion of the Fermi level, achieved by electron removal or atom substitution, effectively preserves the unique characteristics of Lieb bands. Chern number calculations confirm the non-trivial nature of the Lieb Dirac bands. Our discoveries provide a fresh perspective on 2D polymers and redefine the search for Lieb lattice materials into a well-defined chemical synthesis task.

Bright solitons in a spin-orbit-coupled dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate trapped within a double-lattice

By effectively controlling the dipole-dipole interaction, we investigate the characteristics of the ground state of bright solitons in a spin-orbit coupled dipolar Bose-Einstein condensate. The dipolar atoms are trapped within a double-lattice which consists of a linear and a nonlinear lattice. We derive the motion equations of the different spin components, taking the controlling mechanisms of the diolpe-dipole interaction into account. An analytical expression of dipole-dipole interaction is derived. By adjusting the dipole polarization angle, the dipole interaction can be adjusted from attraction to repulsion. On this basis, we study the generation and manipulation of the bright solitons using both the analytical variational method and numerical imaginary time evolution. The stability of the bright solitons is also analyzed and we map out the stability phase diagram. By adjusting the long-range dipole-dipole interaction, one can achieve manipulation of bright solitons in all aspects, including the existence, width, nodes, and stability. Considering the complexity of our system, our results will have enormous potential applications in quantum simulation of complex systems.
