Non-Bunch-Davies Anisotropy

We introduce a generic mechanism that can extend the effects of relic anisotropies at the beginning of inflation to relatively much shorter scales in density perturbations. This is induced by non-Bunch-Davies states of the quantum fluctuations, and can show up in the non-oscillatory components of the density perturbations. This mechanism works for general forms of anisotropies, and, to illustrate it, we use an example of relic vector field. The detailed scale-dependence of these anisotropies can be used to probe the initial quantum state of our universe.

The least eigenvalue of graphs whose complements are unicyclic

A graph in a certain graph class is called minimizing if the least eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix of the graph attains the minimum among all graphs in that class. Bell {\it et al.} have characterized the minimizing graphs in the class of connected graphs of order $n$ and size $m$, whose complements are either disconnected or contain a clique of order at least $n/2$. In this paper we discuss the minimizing graphs of a special class of graphs of order $n$ whose complements are connected and contains exactly one cycle (namely the the class $\mathscr {U}^{c}_{n}$ of graphs whose complements are unicyclic), and characterize the unique minimizing graph in $\mathscr {U}^{c}_{n}$ when $n \geq 20$.

Michael-Simon inequalities for $k$-th mean curvatures

This paper continues the study of Alexandrov-Fenchel inequalities for quermassintegrals for $k$-convex domains. It focuses on the application to the Michael-Simon type inequalities for $k$-curvature operators. The proof uses optimal transport maps as a tool to relate curvature quantities defined on the boundary of a domain.

Large Local Non-Gaussianity from General Single-field Inflation

We investigate the non-Gaussian signatures of ultra slow-roll inflation. The bispectrum and the trispectrum are calculated with general initial conditions. The trispectrum is of local shape, as in the case of the bispectrum. We show that the prediction of local non-Gaussianity is robust again generalizing the Bunch-Davies vacuum. The Suyama-Yamaguchi relation is saturated in this scenario.

Effect of Ni on Cu precipitation kinetics in α-Fe by AKMC study

The kinetics of coherent Cu rich precipitation in Fe-Cu and Fe-Cu-Ni alloys during thermal ageing have been modeled by Atomic Kinetic Monte Carlo method (AKMC). The AKMC is parameterized by existing ab-inito data to treat vacancy mediated diffusion which is depend on local atomic environment. A nonlinear semi-empirical time adjusting method is proposed to rescaled the MC time. The combining AKMC and time adjusting method give a good agreement with experiments and other simulations, including advancement factor and the Cu cluster mobility. Simulations of ternary alloys reveal Ni has a temporal delay effect on Cu precipitation. This effect is caused by the decreasing of diffusion coefficient of Cu clusters. And the reduction effect of diffusion coefficient weakens with larger Cu cluster size. The simulation results can be used to explain the experimental phenomenon that ternary Fe-Cu-Ni alloys have higher cluster number density than corresponding binary during coarsening stage, which is related to cluster mobility.

Sampling Error Analysis and Properties of Non-bandlimited Signals That Are Reconstructed by Generalized Sinc Functions

Recently efforts have been made to use generalized sinc functions to perfectly reconstruct various kinds of non-bandlimited signals. As a consequence, perfect reconstruction sampling formulas have been established using such generalized sinc functions. This article studies the error of the reconstructed non-bandlimited signal when an adaptive truncation scheme is employed. Further, when there are noises present in the samples, estimation on the expectation and variance of the error pertinent to the reconstructed signal is also given. Finally discussed are the reproducing properties and the Sobolev smoothness of functions in the space of non-bandlimited signals that admits such a sampling formula.

Amplitudes of mono-components and representation by generalized sampling functions

A mono-component is a real-valued signal of finite energy that has non-negative instantaneous frequencies, which may be defined as the derivative of the phase function of the given real-valued signal through the approach of canonical amplitude-phase modulation. We study in this article how the amplitude is determined by its phase in a canonical amplitude-phase modulation. Our finding is that such an amplitude can be perfectly reconstructed by a sampling formula using the so-called generalized sampling functions and their Hilbert transforms. The regularity of such an amplitude is identified to be at least continuous. Meanwhile, we also make a very interesting and new characterization of the band-limited functions.

Multi-Stream Inflation in a Landscape

There are hidden observables for inflation, such as features localized in position space, which do not manifest themselves when only one inflation trajectory is considered. To address this issue, we investigate inflation dynamics in a landscape mimicked by a random potential. We calculate the probability for bifurcation of the inflation trajectory in multi-stream inflation. Depending on the shape of the random bumps and the distance between bumps in the potential, there is a phase transition: on one side of the critical curve in parameter space isocurvature fluctuation are exponentially amplified and bifurcation becomes very probable. On the other side bifurcation is dominated by a random walk where bifurcations are less likely to happen.

Dark Energy: a Brief Review

The problem of dark energy is briefly reviewed in both theoretical and observational aspects. In the theoretical aspect, dark energy scenarios are classified into symmetry, anthropic principle, tuning mechanism, modified gravity, quantum cosmology, holographic principle, back-reaction and phenomenological types. In the observational aspect, we introduce cosmic probes, dark energy related projects, observational constraints on theoretical models and model independent reconstructions.

Global classical solutions to the two-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations in $\mathbb{R}^2$

In this paper, we prove the global well-posedness of the classical solution to the 2D Cauchy problem of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with arbitrarily large initial data when the shear viscosity $μ$ is a positive constant and the bulk viscosity $ł(\r)=\r^\b$ with $\b>\frac43$. Here the initial density keeps a non-vacuum states $\barρ>0$ at far fields and our results generalize the ones by Vaigant-Kazhikhov [41] for the periodic problem and by Jiu-Wang-Xin [26] and Huang-Li [8] for the Cauchy problem with vacuum states $\barρ=0$ at far fields. It shows that the solution will not develop the vacuum states in any finite time provided the initial density is uniformly away from vacuum. And the results also hold true when the initial data contains vacuum states in a subset of $\mathbb{R}^2$ and the natural compatibility conditions are satisfied. Some new weighted estimates are obtained to establish the upper bound of the density.

The least eigenvalues of signless Laplacian of non-bipartite graphs with pendant vertices

In this paper we determine the graph whose least eigenvalue of signless Laplacian attains the minimum or maximum among all connected non-bipartite graphs of fixed order and given number of pendant vertices. Thus we obtain a lower bound and an upper bound for the least eigenvalue of signless Laplacian of a graph in terms of the number of pendent vertices.

Content-based Multi-media Retrieval Technology

This paper gives a summary of the content-based Image Retrieval and Content-based Audio Retrieval, which are two parts of the Content-based Retrieval. Content-based Retrieval is the retrieval based on the features of the content. Generally, it is a way to extract features of the media data and find other data with the similar features from the database automatically. Content-based Retrieval can not only work on discrete media like texts, but also can be used on continuous media, such as video and audio.

Global well-posedness of the Cauchy problem of two-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations in weighted spaces

In this paper, we study the global well-posedness of classical solution to 2D Cauchy problem of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with large initial data and vacuum. It is proved that if the shear viscosity $μ$ is a positive constant and the bulk viscosity $λ$ is the power function of the density, that is, $λ(ρ)=ρ^β$ with $β>3$, then the 2D Cauchy problem of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations on the whole space $\mathbf{R}^2$ admit a unique global classical solution $(ρ,u)$ which may contain vacuums in an open set of $\mathbf{R}^2$. Note that the initial data can be arbitrarily large to contain vacuum states. Various weighted estimates of the density and velocity are obtained in this paper and these self-contained estimates reflect the fact that the weighted density and weighted velocity propagate along with the flow.

Quasi-Single Field Inflation with Large Mass

We study the effect of massive isocurvaton on density perturbations in quasi-single field inflation models, when the mass of the isocurvaton M becomes larger than the order of the Hubble parameter H. We analytically compute the correction to the power spectrum, leading order in coupling but exact for all values of mass. This verifies the previous numerical results for the range 0<M<3H/2 and shows that, in the large mass limit, the correction is of order H^2/M^2.

Anomalous High Energy Dependence in Inflationary Density Perturbations

We study the contribution of spectator massive scalar fields to the inflationary density perturbations through the universal gravitational coupling. We find that such contribution has several remarkable properties: it does not decrease as the mass of the spectator field increases; it has a significant size and cannot be turned off by any adjustable parameters; and it applies to all massive scalars existed during inflation, making the overall effect unexpectedly large. As a result, the primordial density perturbations are anomalously sensitive to the high energy physics.
