Entanglement Negativity and Defect Extremal Surface

We study entanglement negativity for evaporating black hole based on the holographic model with defect brane. We introduce a defect extremal surface formula for entanglement negativity. Based on partial reduction, we show the equivalence between defect extremal surface formula and island formula for entanglement negativity in AdS$_3$/BCFT$_2$. Extending the study to the model of eternal black hole plus CFT bath, we find that black hole-black hole negativity decreases until vanishing, left black hole-left radiation negativity is always a constant, radiation-radiation negativity increases and then saturates at a time later than Page time. In all the time dependent cases, defect extremal surface formula agrees with island formula.

Region Attention Transformer for Medical Image Restoration

Transformer-based methods have demonstrated impressive results in medical image restoration, attributed to the multi-head self-attention (MSA) mechanism in the spatial dimension. However, the majority of existing Transformers conduct attention within fixed and coarsely partitioned regions (\text{e.g.} the entire image or fixed patches), resulting in interference from irrelevant regions and fragmentation of continuous image content. To overcome these challenges, we introduce a novel Region Attention Transformer (RAT) that utilizes a region-based multi-head self-attention mechanism (R-MSA). The R-MSA dynamically partitions the input image into non-overlapping semantic regions using the robust Segment Anything Model (SAM) and then performs self-attention within these regions. This region partitioning is more flexible and interpretable, ensuring that only pixels from similar semantic regions complement each other, thereby eliminating interference from irrelevant regions. Moreover, we introduce a focal region loss to guide our model to adaptively focus on recovering high-difficulty regions. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of RAT in various medical image restoration tasks, including PET image synthesis, CT image denoising, and pathological image super-resolution. Code is available at \href{https://github.com/Yaziwel/Region-Attention-Transformer-for-Medical-Image-Restoration.git}{https://github.com/RAT}.

Multiple scattering and diffusion of scalar coherent waves in a group of small spheroidal particles with random orientations

In this manuscript we study multiple scattering and diffusion of scalar wave in a group of monodisperse spheroidal particles with random orientations. We begin by fixing a spheroid in a prolate spheroidal coordinate system, and attain the expansion of the scalar Green's function in this space. The expansion is firstly based on spheroidal wave functions, and then we transform it into the expansion of spherical wave functions. Next, we average the Green's function over the orientations of the spheroid to get the averaged transition operator. Finally, we calculate the transport mean free path and anisotropy factor for the spheroidal particles group, based on the irreducible vertex in the Bethe-Salpeter equation. The approaches to get the average transition operator and the mean free paths in this manuscript will be of benefit to the research area of multiple scattering by non-spherical particles.

Physically Analyzable AI-Based Nonlinear Platoon Dynamics Modeling During Traffic Oscillation: A Koopman Approach

Given the complexity and nonlinearity inherent in traffic dynamics within vehicular platoons, there exists a critical need for a modeling methodology with high accuracy while concurrently achieving physical analyzability. Currently, there are two predominant approaches: the physics model-based approach and the Artificial Intelligence (AI)--based approach. Knowing the facts that the physical-based model usually lacks sufficient modeling accuracy and potential function mismatches and the pure-AI-based method lacks analyzability, this paper innovatively proposes an AI-based Koopman approach to model the unknown nonlinear platoon dynamics harnessing the power of AI and simultaneously maintain physical analyzability, with a particular focus on periods of traffic oscillation. Specifically, this research first employs a deep learning framework to generate the embedding function that lifts the original space into the embedding space. Given the embedding space descriptiveness, the platoon dynamics can be expressed as a linear dynamical system founded by the Koopman theory. Based on that, the routine of linear dynamical system analysis can be conducted on the learned traffic linear dynamics in the embedding space. By that, the physical interpretability and analyzability of model-based methods with the heightened precision inherent in data-driven approaches can be synergized. Comparative experiments have been conducted with existing modeling approaches, which suggests our method's superiority in accuracy. Additionally, a phase plane analysis is performed, further evidencing our approach's effectiveness in replicating the complex dynamic patterns. Moreover, the proposed methodology is proven to feature the capability of analyzing the stability, attesting to the physical analyzability.

Efficient Enumeration of Large Maximal k-Plexes

Finding cohesive subgraphs in a large graph has many important applications, such as community detection and biological network analysis. Clique is often a too strict cohesive structure since communities or biological modules rarely form as cliques for various reasons such as data noise. Therefore, $k$-plex is introduced as a popular clique relaxation, which is a graph where every vertex is adjacent to all but at most $k$ vertices. In this paper, we propose a fast branch-and-bound algorithm as well as its task-based parallel version to enumerate all maximal $k$-plexes with at least $q$ vertices. Our algorithm adopts an effective search space partitioning approach that provides a lower time complexity, a new pivot vertex selection method that reduces candidate vertex size, an effective upper-bounding technique to prune useless branches, and three novel pruning techniques by vertex pairs. Our parallel algorithm uses a timeout mechanism to eliminate straggler tasks, and maximizes cache locality while ensuring load balancing. Extensive experiments show that compared with the state-of-the-art algorithms, our sequential and parallel algorithms enumerate large maximal $k$-plexes with up to $5 \times$ and $18.9 \times$ speedup, respectively. Ablation results also demonstrate that our pruning techniques bring up to $7 \times$ speedup compared with our basic algorithm.

LSKSANet: A Novel Architecture for Remote Sensing Image Semantic Segmentation Leveraging Large Selective Kernel and Sparse Attention Mechanism

In this paper, we proposed large selective kernel and sparse attention network (LSKSANet) for remote sensing image semantic segmentation. The LSKSANet is a lightweight network that effectively combines convolution with sparse attention mechanisms. Specifically, we design large selective kernel module to decomposing the large kernel into a series of depth-wise convolutions with progressively increasing dilation rates, thereby expanding the receptive field without significantly increasing the computational burden. In addition, we introduce the sparse attention to keep the most useful self-attention values for better feature aggregation. Experimental results on the Vaihingen and Postdam datasets demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed LSKSANet over state-of-the-art methods.

Arctic Sea Ice Image Super-Resolution Based on Multi-Scale Convolution and Dual-Gating Mechanism

Arctic Sea Ice Concentration (SIC) is the ratio of ice-covered area to the total sea area of the Arctic Ocean, which is a key indicator for maritime activities. Nowadays, we often use passive microwave images to display SIC, but it has low spatial resolution, and most of the existing super-resolution methods of Arctic SIC don't take the integration of spatial and channel features into account and can't effectively integrate the multi-scale feature. To overcome the aforementioned issues, we propose MFM-Net for Arctic SIC super-resolution, which concurrently aggregates multi-scale information while integrating spatial and channel features. Extensive experiments on Arctic SIC dataset from the AMSR-E/AMSR-2 SIC DT-ASI products from Ocean University of China validate the effectiveness of porposed MFM-Net.

Sparse Focus Network for Multi-Source Remote Sensing Data Classification

Multi-source remote sensing data classification has emerged as a prominent research topic with the advancement of various sensors. Existing multi-source data classification methods are susceptible to irrelevant information interference during multi-source feature extraction and fusion. To solve this issue, we propose a sparse focus network for multi-source data classification. Sparse attention is employed in Transformer block for HSI and SAR/LiDAR feature extraction, thereby the most useful self-attention values are maintained for better feature aggregation. Furthermore, cross-attention is used to enhance multi-source feature interactions, and further improves the efficiency of cross-modal feature fusion. Experimental results on the Berlin and Houston2018 datasets highlight the effectiveness of SF-Net, outperforming existing state-of-the-art methods.

PGA-SciRE: Harnessing LLM on Data Augmentation for Enhancing Scientific Relation Extraction

Relation Extraction (RE) aims at recognizing the relation between pairs of entities mentioned in a text. Advances in LLMs have had a tremendous impact on NLP. In this work, we propose a textual data augmentation framework called PGA for improving the performance of models for RE in the scientific domain. The framework introduces two ways of data augmentation, utilizing a LLM to obtain pseudo-samples with the same sentence meaning but with different representations and forms by paraphrasing the original training set samples. As well as instructing LLM to generate sentences that implicitly contain information about the corresponding labels based on the relation and entity of the original training set samples. These two kinds of pseudo-samples participate in the training of the RE model together with the original dataset, respectively. The PGA framework in the experiment improves the F1 scores of the three mainstream models for RE within the scientific domain. Also, using a LLM to obtain samples can effectively reduce the cost of manually labeling data.

Rankin-Cohen Brackets of Hilbert Hecke Eigenforms

Over any fixed totally real number field with narrow class number one, we prove that the Rankin-Cohen bracket of two Hecke eigenforms for the Hilbert modular group can only be a Hecke eigenform for dimension reasons, except for a couple of cases where the Rankin-Selberg method does not apply. We shall also prove a conjecture of Freitag on the volume of Hilbert modular groups, and assuming a conjecture of Freitag on the dimension of the cuspform space, we obtain a finiteness result on eigenform product identities.

HexGen: Generative Inference of Large Language Model over Heterogeneous Environment

Serving generative inference of the large language model is a crucial component of contemporary AI applications. This paper focuses on deploying such services in a heterogeneous and cross-datacenter setting to mitigate the substantial inference costs typically associated with a single centralized datacenter. Towards this end, we propose HexGen, a flexible distributed inference engine that uniquely supports the asymmetric partition of generative inference computations over both tensor model parallelism and pipeline parallelism and allows for effective deployment across diverse GPUs interconnected by a fully heterogeneous network. We further propose a sophisticated scheduling algorithm grounded in constrained optimization that can adaptively assign asymmetric inference computation across the GPUs to fulfill inference requests while maintaining acceptable latency levels. We conduct an extensive evaluation to verify the efficiency of HexGen by serving the state-of-the-art Llama-2 (70B) model. The results suggest that HexGen can choose to achieve up to 2.3 times lower latency deadlines or tolerate up to 4 times more request rates compared with the homogeneous baseline given the same budget.

Performance study of the JadePix-3 telescope from a beam test

We present the results of a beam test conducted on a telescope using the JadePix-3 pixel sensor, developed with TowerJazz 180 nm CMOS imaging technology. The telescope is composed of five planes, each equipped with a JadePix-3 sensor with pitches of 26 um x 16 um and 23.11 um x 16 um. In addition, it features an FPGA-based synchronous readout system. The telescope underwent testing using an electron beam with energy ranging from 4 to 6 GeV. At an electron energy of 5.4 GeV, the telescope demonstrated superior spatial resolutions of 2.6 and 2.3 um in two dimensions. By designating the central plane as the device under test, we evaluated the JadePix-3 sensor's spatial resolutions as 5.2 and 4.6 um in two dimensions, achieving a detection efficiency of over 99%.

Efficient Visual Fault Detection for Freight Train via Neural Architecture Search with Data Volume Robustness

Deep learning-based fault detection methods have achieved significant success. In visual fault detection of freight trains, there exists a large characteristic difference between inter-class components (scale variance) but intra-class on the contrary, which entails scale-awareness for detectors. Moreover, the design of task-specific networks heavily relies on human expertise. As a consequence, neural architecture search (NAS) that automates the model design process gains considerable attention because of its promising performance. However, NAS is computationally intensive due to the large search space and huge data volume. In this work, we propose an efficient NAS-based framework for visual fault detection of freight trains to search for the task-specific detection head with capacities of multi-scale representation. First, we design a scale-aware search space for discovering an effective receptive field in the head. Second, we explore the robustness of data volume to reduce search costs based on the specifically designed search space, and a novel sharing strategy is proposed to reduce memory and further improve search efficiency. Extensive experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method with data volume robustness, which achieves 46.8 and 47.9 mAP on the Bottom View and Side View datasets, respectively. Our framework outperforms the state-of-the-art approaches and linearly decreases the search costs with reduced data volumes.

Sequencing-enabled Hierarchical Cooperative CAV On-ramp Merging Control with Enhanced Stability and Feasibility

This paper develops a sequencing-enabled hierarchical connected automated vehicle (CAV) cooperative on-ramp merging control framework. The proposed framework consists of a two-layer design: the upper level control sequences the vehicles to harmonize the traffic density across mainline and on-ramp segments while enhancing lower-level control efficiency through a mixed-integer linear programming formulation. Subsequently, the lower-level control employs a longitudinal distributed model predictive control (MPC) supplemented by a virtual car-following (CF) concept to ensure asymptotic local stability, l_2 norm string stability, and safety. Proofs of asymptotic local stability and l_2 norm string stability are mathematically derived. Compared to other prevalent asymptotic local-stable MPC controllers, the proposed distributed MPC controller greatly expands the initial feasible set. Additionally, an auxiliary lateral control is developed to maintain lane-keeping and merging smoothness while accommodating ramp geometric curvature. To validate the proposed framework, multiple numerical experiments are conducted. Results indicate a notable outperformance of our upper-level controller against a distance-based sequencing method. Furthermore, the lower-level control effectively ensures smooth acceleration, safe merging with adequate spacing, adherence to proven longitudinal local and string stability, and rapid regulation of lateral deviations.

Beyond 1D and oversimplified kinematics: A generic analytical framework for surrogate safety measures

This paper presents a generic analytical framework tailored for surrogate safety measures (SSMs) that is versatile across various highway geometries, capable of encompassing vehicle dynamics of differing dimensionality and fidelity, and suitable for dynamic, real-world environments. The framework incorporates a generic vehicle movement model, accommodating a spectrum of scenarios with varying degrees of complexity and dimensionality, facilitating the prediction of future vehicle trajectories. It establishes a generic mathematical criterion to denote potential collisions, characterized by the spatial overlap between a vehicle and any other entity. A collision risk is present if the collision criterion is met at any non-negative time point, with the minimum threshold representing the remaining time to collision. The framework's proficiency spans from conventional one-dimensional (1D) SSMs to extended multi-dimensional, high-fidelity SSMs. Its validity is corroborated through simulation experiments that assess the precision of the framework when linearization is performed on the vehicle movement model. The outcomes showcase remarkable accuracy in predicting vehicle trajectories and the time remaining before potential collisions occur. The necessity of higher-dimensional and higher-fidelity SSMs is highlighted through a comparison of conventional 1D SSMs and extended three-dimensional (3D) SSMs. The results showed that using 1D SSMs over 3D SSMs could be off by 300% for non-critical Time-to-Collision (TTC) values and about 20% for critical TTC values (below 1.5 seconds). Furthermore, the framework's practical application is demonstrated through a case study that actively evaluates all potential conflicts, underscoring its effectiveness in dynamic, real-world traffic situations.

CoPeD-Advancing Multi-Robot Collaborative Perception: A Comprehensive Dataset in Real-World Environments

In the past decade, although single-robot perception has made significant advancements, the exploration of multi-robot collaborative perception remains largely unexplored. This involves fusing compressed, intermittent, limited, heterogeneous, and asynchronous environmental information across multiple robots to enhance overall perception, despite challenges like sensor noise, occlusions, and sensor failures. One major hurdle has been the lack of real-world datasets. This paper presents a pioneering and comprehensive real-world multi-robot collaborative perception dataset to boost research in this area. Our dataset leverages the untapped potential of air-ground robot collaboration featuring distinct spatial viewpoints, complementary robot mobilities, coverage ranges, and sensor modalities. It features raw sensor inputs, pose estimation, and optional high-level perception annotation, thus accommodating diverse research interests. Compared to existing datasets predominantly designed for Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM), our setup ensures a diverse range and adequate overlap of sensor views to facilitate the study of multi-robot collaborative perception algorithms. We demonstrate the value of this dataset qualitatively through multiple collaborative perception tasks. We believe this work will unlock the potential research of high-level scene understanding through multi-modal collaborative perception in multi-robot settings.

Topicwise Separable Sentence Retrieval for Medical Report Generation

Automated radiology reporting holds immense clinical potential in alleviating the burdensome workload of radiologists and mitigating diagnostic bias. Recently, retrieval-based report generation methods have garnered increasing attention due to their inherent advantages in terms of the quality and consistency of generated reports. However, due to the long-tail distribution of the training data, these models tend to learn frequently occurring sentences and topics, overlooking the rare topics. Regrettably, in many cases, the descriptions of rare topics often indicate critical findings that should be mentioned in the report. To address this problem, we introduce a Topicwise Separable Sentence Retrieval (Teaser) for medical report generation. To ensure comprehensive learning of both common and rare topics, we categorize queries into common and rare types to learn differentiated topics, and then propose Topic Contrastive Loss to effectively align topics and queries in the latent space. Moreover, we integrate an Abstractor module following the extraction of visual features, which aids the topic decoder in gaining a deeper understanding of the visual observational intent. Experiments on the MIMIC-CXR and IU X-ray datasets demonstrate that Teaser surpasses state-of-the-art models, while also validating its capability to effectively represent rare topics and establish more dependable correspondences between queries and topics.
