Giant exciton effects and magneto-excitonic coupling in V4S9X4 2D magnetic semiconductors

Room-temperature spin-optoelectronic devices require a combination of robust ferromagnetism and giant exciton binding, a pairing mutually exclusive in conventional semiconductors due to magnetic localization that screens excitons. Cluster-assembled V4S9X4 (X = F, Cl, Br and I) monolayers overcome this bottleneck via a hierarchical design, that is, intra-cluster localized states host both local magnetic moments and strong electron-hole interactions, while inter-cluster coupling mediates long-range ferromagnetism. Remarkably, these two-dimensional semiconductors exhibit intrinsic ferromagnetism with Curie temperature up to 507.6 K. As a prototype, V4S9Br4 monolayer possesses a giant exciton binding energy of 1.85 eV. Its lowest exciton is a dark state (DI) with a radiative lifetime of 1.20 ns, whereas the first bright exciton (BI) exhibits an ultrafast radiative decay of 86.87 ps. This stark lifetime contrast enables simultaneous ultrafast optical response and long-lived spin information storage. Most notably, switching between ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic order allows for wide-range tuning of exciton lifetime, with the giant binding energy remaining nearly intact. Our findings establish cluster assembly as a powerful paradigm for designing next-generation spin-photonic and quantum information devices operating at room temperature.

Probing Coronal Activity Using Radio Signals Based on the 2021 superior conjunction of Mars: the Downlink Data from Tianwen-1

During the first superior conjunction of the Tianwen-1 Mars probe in October 2021, its downlink signal received by the Wuqing 70-m radio telescope passed within 4.53 solar radii of the Sun. The signal was significantly perturbed by the solar wind, providing a mechanism to probe coronal activity. We analyze the Doppler frequency scintillation spectrum of the solar wind within 10 solar radii to derive a characteristic frequency scintillation parameter. Statistical analysis indicates this parameter increases as the signal path approaches the Sun, with notable anomalies observed on October 5, 13, and 15. Comparisons with SOHO and SDO data reveal strong spatio-temporal correlations between these scintillation anomalies and coronal activity. We demonstrate that this parameter effectively identifies solar phenomena, including coronal streamers, high-speed solar wind, and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). Quantitative analysis confirms a distinct temporal correlation and delay between frequency scintillation and solar wind speed changes, validating the feasibility of spatially localizing solar activity.

Developing and characterizing a new-generation regolith simulant "IGCAS-AST01" for the Tianwen-2 target asteroid (469219) Kamo'oalewa

China plans to return samples from the near-Earth asteroid (469219) Kamo'oalewa, which we previously identified as an LL-chondrite-compositional, highly space-weathered object with fine-grained regolith. In this study, we developed 10 mL of Kamo'oalewa regolith simulant, designated "IGCAS-AST01", by irradiating LL5/6 chondrite (Kheneg Ljou^ad) powder with a high-energy pulsed laser. We then analyzed the composition, grain size distribution, density, porosity, visible to near-infrared reflectance spectrum, thermal emission spectrum, thermal diffusivity, specific heat capacity, and microstructural features of both the fresh (unirradiated) powder and IGCAS-AST01. IGCAS-AST01 is composed of 57.8 vol.% olivine, 19.9 vol.% orthopyroxene, 5.6 vol.% diopside, 12.2 vol.% plagioclase, 2.6 vol.% troilite, and minor amounts of other phases. It has a mean size of 26.99 um, a median size of 23.19 um, a density of 700 kg m^-3, and a porosity of 79.1%. Additionally, IGCAS-AST01 exhibits a low reflectance of 0.1 at 0.55 um and an extremely steep spectral slope. In the temperature range of 253.15-473.15 K, its thermal diffusivity and specific heat capacity range from 3.6-4.7 x 10^-6 m^2 s^-1 and 718.43-890.20 J kg^-1 K^-1, respectively. Furthermore, thick amorphous rims and abundant nanophase metallic iron particles are observed in olivine and pyroxene grains of IGCAS-AST01. These results could support the Tianwen-2 mission's payload calibration, sampling operations, on-orbit scientific data interpretation, and future sample analysis.

Towards Controllable Low-Light Image Enhancement: A Continuous Multi-illumination Dataset and Efficient State Space Framework

Low-light image enhancement (LLIE) has traditionally been formulated as a deterministic mapping. However, this paradigm often struggles to account for the ill-posed nature of the task, where unknown ambient conditions and sensor parameters create a multimodal solution space. Consequently, state-of-the-art methods frequently encounter luminance discrepancies between predictions and labels, often necessitating "gt-mean" post-processing to align output luminance for evaluation. To address this fundamental limitation, we propose a transition toward Controllable Low-light Enhancement (CLE), explicitly reformulating the task as a well-posed conditional problem. To this end, we introduce CLE-RWKV, a holistic framework supported by Light100, a new benchmark featuring continuous real-world illumination transitions. To resolve the conflict between luminance control and chromatic fidelity, a noise-decoupled supervision strategy in the HVI color space is employed, effectively separating illumination modulation from texture restoration. Architecturally, to adapt efficient State Space Models (SSMs) for dense prediction, we leverage a Space-to-Depth (S2D) strategy. By folding spatial neighborhoods into channel dimensions, this design allows the model to recover local inductive biases and effectively bridge the "scanning gap" inherent in flattened visual sequences without sacrificing linear complexity. Experiments across seven benchmarks demonstrate that our approach achieves competitive performance and robust controllability, providing a real-world multi-illumination alternative that significantly reduces the reliance on gt-mean post-processing.

Observational constraints on phenomenological emergent dark energy and barotropic dark matter characterized by a constant equation of state parameter

While cold dark matter is widely supported by a range of cosmological observations, it encounters several difficulties at smaller scales. These issues have prompted the investigation of various alternative dark matter candidates, leaving the question "What is dark matter?" still open. In this work, we propose a new cosmological model that considers dark matter as a barotropic fluid with a constant equation of state parameter and interprets dark energy as the phenomenological emergent dark energy rather than a cosmological constant. We then place constraints on our new model using the Planck 2018 Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropy measurements, Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) measurements from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), the Pantheon Plus (PP) compilation of Type Ia supernovae (Ia SNe), and the Redshift Space Distortions (RSD) data from Gold2018. The results show statistically significant signal for positive dark matter equation of state and square of sound speed $w_{\rm dm}=c_{\rm s,dm}^2$ ($10^{7}w_{\rm dm}$ = $4.0^{+2.5}_{-2.3}$ at the 95\% confidence level) for the data combination CMB+DESI+PP+RSD. However, Bayesian evidence indicates that this data combination favors the $\Lambda$CDM model with very strong evidence.

HER2 Expression Prediction with Flexible Multi-Modal Inputs via Dynamic Bidirectional Reconstruction

In breast cancer HER2 assessment, clinical evaluation relies on combined H&E and IHC images, yet acquiring both modalities is often hindered by clinical constraints and cost. We propose an adaptive bimodal prediction framework that flexibly supports single- or dual-modality inputs through two core innovations: a dynamic branch selector activating modality completion or joint inference based on input availability, and a cross-modal GAN (CM-GAN) enabling feature-space reconstruction of missing modalities. This design dramatically improves H&E-only accuracy from 71.44% to 94.25%, achieves 95.09% with full dual-modality inputs, and maintains 90.28% reliability under single-modality conditions. The "dual-modality preferred, single-modality compatible" architecture delivers near-dual-modality accuracy without mandatory synchronized acquisition, offering a cost-effective solution for resource-limited regions and significantly improving HER2 assessment accessibility.

Physical Implications and Updated Observational Constraints of the PAge-like Unified Dark Fluid Model

The standard paradigm of cosmology assumes two distinct dark components, namely dark matter and dark energy. However, the necessity of splitting the dark-side world into two sectors has not been experimentally or theoretically proven. Unified dark fluid models provide an alternative in which a single fluid accounts for both phenomena. It is shown in Wang et al. 2024 that a PAge-like unified dark fluid (PUDF) can explain both the cosmic microwave background (CMB) and late-universe data, with the fitting quality not much worse than the standard Lambda cold dark matter ($\Lambda$CDM) model. Using the Planck 2018 CMB, baryon acoustic oscillations measurement from the dark energy spectroscopic instrument (DESI) data release 2, dark energy survey 5-year supernova data, and cosmic-chronometer data, we update the constraints on PUDF and clarify its physical implications. We show that PUDF can reproduce the primary CMB anisotropies, the background expansion history, and linear growth that are very close to the $\Lambda$CDM prediction. Nevertheless, the combined datasets still favor $\Lambda$CDM, largely due to the significant tension between CMB and DESI + SNe data, which exceeds the $4\sigma$ level in PUDF and remains non-negligible in the $w$CDM framework. Using mock data generated from the Planck best-fit $\Lambda$CDM model, we find that PUDF and $\Lambda$CDM cannot be statistically distinguished, indicating that the precision of current data is insufficient to separate the two models. Overall, the apparent preference for $\Lambda$CDM may be driven by dataset inconsistencies rather than a genuine physical difference, leaving unified dark fluid models as viable alternatives within current observational limits.

4D-ACFNet: A 4D Attention Mechanism-Based Prognostic Framework for Colorectal Cancer Liver Metastasis Integrating Multimodal Spatiotemporal Features

Postoperative prognostic prediction for colorectal cancer liver metastasis (CRLM) remains challenging due to tumor heterogeneity, dynamic evolution of the hepatic microenvironment, and insufficient multimodal data fusion. To address these issues, we propose 4D-ACFNet, the first framework that synergistically integrates lightweight spatiotemporal modeling, cross-modal dynamic calibration, and personalized temporal prediction within a unified architecture. Specifically, it incorporates a novel 4D spatiotemporal attention mechanism, which employs spatiotemporal separable convolution (reducing parameter count by 41%) and virtual timestamp encoding to model the interannual evolution patterns of postoperative dynamic processes, such as liver regeneration and steatosis. For cross-modal feature alignment, Transformer layers are integrated to jointly optimize modality alignment loss and disentanglement loss, effectively suppressing scale mismatch and redundant interference in clinical-imaging data. Additionally, we design a dynamic prognostic decision module that generates personalized interannual recurrence risk heatmaps through temporal upsampling and a gated classification head, overcoming the limitations of traditional methods in temporal dynamic modeling and cross-modal alignment. Experiments on 197 CRLM patients demonstrate that the model achieves 100% temporal adjacency accuracy (TAA), with performance significantly surpassing existing approaches. This study establishes the first spatiotemporal modeling paradigm for postoperative dynamic monitoring of CRLM. The proposed framework can be extended to prognostic analysis of multi-cancer metastases, advancing precision surgery from "spatial resection" to "spatiotemporal cure."

RURANET++: An Unsupervised Learning Method for Diabetic Macular Edema Based on SCSE Attention Mechanisms and Dynamic Multi-Projection Head Clustering

Diabetic Macular Edema (DME), a prevalent complication among diabetic patients, constitutes a major cause of visual impairment and blindness. Although deep learning has achieved remarkable progress in medical image analysis, traditional DME diagnosis still relies on extensive annotated data and subjective ophthalmologist assessments, limiting practical applications. To address this, we present RURANET++, an unsupervised learning-based automated DME diagnostic system. This framework incorporates an optimized U-Net architecture with embedded Spatial and Channel Squeeze & Excitation (SCSE) attention mechanisms to enhance lesion feature extraction. During feature processing, a pre-trained GoogLeNet model extracts deep features from retinal images, followed by PCA-based dimensionality reduction to 50 dimensions for computational efficiency. Notably, we introduce a novel clustering algorithm employing multi-projection heads to explicitly control cluster diversity while dynamically adjusting similarity thresholds, thereby optimizing intra-class consistency and inter-class discrimination. Experimental results demonstrate superior performance across multiple metrics, achieving maximum accuracy (0.8411), precision (0.8593), recall (0.8411), and F1-score (0.8390), with exceptional clustering quality. This work provides an efficient unsupervised solution for DME diagnosis with significant clinical implications.

RURA-Net: A general disease diagnosis method based on Zero-Shot Learning

The training of deep learning models relies on a large amount of labeled data. However, the high cost of medical labeling seriously hinders the development of deep learning in the medical field. Our study proposes a general disease diagnosis approach based on Zero-Shot Learning. The Siamese neural network is used to find similar diseases for the target diseases, and the U-Net segmentation model is used to accurately segment the key lesions of the disease. Finally, based on the ResNet-Agglomerative clustering algorithm, a clustering model is trained on a large number of sample data of similar diseases to obtain a approximate diagnosis of the target disease. Zero-Shot Learning of the target disease is then successfully achieved. To evaluate the validity of the model, we validated our method on a dataset of ophthalmic diseases in CFP modality. The external dataset was used to test its performance, and the accuracy=0.8395, precision=0.8094, recall=0.8463, F1 Score=0.8274, AUC=0.9226, which exceeded the indexes of most Few-Shot Learning and One-Shot Learning models. It proves that our method has great potential and reference value in the medical field, where annotation data is usually scarce and expensive to obtain.

DynSegNet:Dynamic Architecture Adjustment for Adversarial Learning in Segmenting Hemorrhagic Lesions from Fundus Images

The hemorrhagic lesion segmentation plays a critical role in ophthalmic diagnosis, directly influencing early disease detection, treatment planning, and therapeutic efficacy evaluation. However, the task faces significant challenges due to lesion morphological variability, indistinct boundaries, and low contrast with background tissues. To improve diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes, developing advanced segmentation techniques remains imperative. This paper proposes an adversarial learning-based dynamic architecture adjustment approach that integrates hierarchical U-shaped encoder-decoder, residual blocks, attention mechanisms, and ASPP modules. By dynamically optimizing feature fusion, our method enhances segmentation performance. Experimental results demonstrate a Dice coefficient of 0.6802, IoU of 0.5602, Recall of 0.766, Precision of 0.6525, and Accuracy of 0.9955, effectively addressing the challenges in fundus image hemorrhage segmentation.[* Corresponding author.]

Investigating the Capabilities of Deep Learning for Processing and Interpreting One-Shot Multi-offset GPR Data: A Numerical Case Study for Lunar and Martian Environments

Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is a mature geophysical method that has gained increasing popularity in planetary science over the past decade. GPR has been utilised both for Lunar and Martian missions providing pivotal information regarding the near surface geology of Terrestrial planets. Within that context, numerous processing pipelines have been suggested to address the unique challenges present in planetary setups. These processing pipelines often require manual tuning resulting to ambiguous outputs open to non-unique interpretations. These pitfalls combined with the large number of planetary GPR data (kilometers in magnitude), highlight the necessity for automatic, objective and advanced processing and interpretation schemes. The current paper investigates the potential of deep learning for interpreting and processing GPR data. The one-shot multi-offset configuration is investigated via a coherent numerical case study, showcasing the potential of deep learning for A) reconstructing the dielectric distribution of the the near surface of Terrestrial planets, and B) filling missing or bad-quality traces. Special care was taken for the numerical data to be both realistic and challenging. Moreover, the generated synthetic data are properly labelled and made publicly available for training future data-driven pipelines and contributing towards developing pre-trained foundation models for GPR.

A new unified dark sector model and its implications on the $\sigma_8$ and $S_8$ tensions

In this paper, we introduced the Unified Three-Form Dark Sector (UTFDS) model, a unified dark sector model that combines dark energy and dark matter through a three-form field. In this framework, the potential of the three-form field acts as dark matter, while the kinetic term represents dark energy. The interaction between dark matter and dark energy is driven by the energy exchange between these two terms. Given the dynamical equations of UTFDS, we provide an autonomous system of evolution equations for UTFDS and perform a stability analysis of its fixed points. The result aligns with our expectations for a unified dark sector. Furthermore, we discover that the dual Lagrangian of the UTFDS Lagrangian is equivalent to a Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) Lagrangian. By fixing the parameter $\kappa X_0$ to 250, 500, 750, we refer to the resulting models as the $\overline{\rm UTFDS}$ model with $\kappa X_0$=250, 500, 750, respectively. We then place constraints on these three $\overline{\rm UTFDS}$ models and the $\Lambda$CDM model in light of the Planck 2018 Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies, Redshift Space Distortions (RSD) observations, Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) measurements, and the $S_8$ prior chosen according to the KiDS1000 Weak gravitational Lensing (WL) measuement. We find that the $\overline{\rm UTFDS}$ model with $\kappa X_0$=500 is the only one among the four models where both $\sigma_8$ and $S_8$ tensions, between CMB and RSD+BAO+WL datasets, are below 2.0$\sigma$. Furthermore, the tensions are relieved without exacerbating the $H_0$ tension. Although both the CMB and RSD+BAO+WL datasets provide definite/positive evidence favoring $\Lambda$CDM over the $\overline{\rm UTFDS}$ model with $\kappa X_0$=500, the evidence is not strong enough to rule out further study of this model.

Observational constraints on phenomenological emergent dark energy and barotropic dark matter characterized by a constant equation of state parameter

We propose a new cosmological model that considers dark matter as a barotropic fluid with a constant equation of state parameter and interprets dark energy as the phenomenological emergent dark energy rather than a cosmological constant. This proposal is based on extensive research on the extended properties of dark matter in the context of a cosmological constant and the intriguing findings that have emerged from our exploration of dark matter properties within the context of PEDE in our previous studies. We then place constraints on this model in light of the Planck 2018 Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) anisotropies, baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) measurements, the Pantheon compilation of Type Ia supernovae, a prior on $H_0$ that based on the latest local measurement by Riess et al., and the combination of KiDS and the VISTA Kilo-Degree Infrared Galaxy Survey (KiDS+VIKING-450). The results indicate a preference for a positive dark matter equation of state parameter at 68\% confidence level for CMB+BAO, CMB+BAO+Pantheon and CMB+BAO+Pantheon+$H_0$ datasets. Furthermore, the Hubble tension between all of the datasets we used with R22 is very close to those of the PEDE, and the $S_8$ tension between Planck 2018 and KiDS+VIKING-450 is reduced from 2.3$\sigma$ in the PEDE model to 0.4$\sigma$ in the new model. However, Bayesian evidence indicates that PEDE favors our new model with very strong evidence from all the datasets considered in this study. Consequently, we conclude that the PEDE+$w_{\rm dm}$ model is not a viable alternative to the PEDE model.

A PAge-like Unified Dark Fluid Model

The unified dark fluid model unifies dark matter and dark energy into a single component, providing an alternative and more concise framework for interpreting cosmological observations. We introduce a PAge-like Unified Dark Fluid (PUDF) model based on the PAge approximation (Huang 2020), which is parameterized by the age of the universe and an $\eta$ parameter indicating the deviation from Einstein-De Sitter Universe. The PUDF model shares many similar features of the standard Lambda cold dark matter ($\Lambda$CDM) model and can effectively describe the large-scale structure formation and late-time cosmic acceleration. We constrain the PUDF model with the Planck 2018 cosmic microwave background anisotropies, baryon acoustic oscillation measurements including those from the most recent DESI 2024, the Pantheon+ sample of Type Ia supernovae, and the Cosmic Chronometers compilation. Although the PUDF performs well in fitting all the cosmological datasets, the joint analysis of the data still favors the $\Lambda$CDM model over the PUDF model, according to the Bayesian evidence of model comparison.

Key drivers of the preference for dynamic dark energy

Joint analysis of the baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) measurement by the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) first data release, Type Ia supernovae (SNe) of the Dark Energy Survey Year 5 (DES5YR) release and cosmic microwave background (CMB) data favors a quintom-like dynamic dark energy model over the standard Lambda cold dark matter ($\Lambda$CDM) model at $3.9\sigma$ level (Adame et al. 2024). We confirm the previous finding in the literature that the preference for dynamic dark energy does not rely on the detailed modeling of CMB physics and remains at a similar significance level ($3.2\sigma$) when the full CMB likelihood is replaced by a CMB acoustic-oscillation angle ($\theta_\star$) prior and a baryon abundance ($\Omega_bh^2$) prior. The computationally efficient $\theta_\star$ and $\Omega_bh^2$ priors allow us to take a frequentist approach by comparing DES5YR SNe and DESI BAO with a large number ($\gtrsim 10^4$) of Planck-constrained $\Lambda$CDM simulations. We find that $\geq 3.2\sigma$ preference for dynamic dark energy is very rare (occurrence rate = $0.28\%$) in simulations. When we combine DESI BAO with SN simulations or combine DES5YR SNe with BAO simulations, the occurrence rate of $\geq 3.2\sigma$ preference for dynamic dark energy increases to $1.2\%$ and $4.8\%$, respectively. These results indicate an internal inconsistency, i.e., a significant tension between DESI BAO + DES5YR SNe and Planck-constrained $\Lambda$CDM models in both Bayesian and frequentist points of view. Although both DESI BAO and DES5YR SNe contribute to the preference for dynamic dark energy, the contribution from DES5YR SNe is more significant. In the frequentist point of view, even DES5YR SNe alone is in tension with Planck-constrained $\Lambda$CDM models, though in Bayesian point of view this tension is prior dependent and inconclusive.

Cosmological constraints on neutrino masses in light of JWST red and massive candidate galaxies

The overabundance of the red and massive candidate galaxies observed by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) implies efficient structure formation or large star formation efficiency at high redshift $z\sim 10$. In the scenario of a low or moderate star formation efficiency, because massive neutrinos tend to suppress the growth of structure of the universe, the JWST observation tightens the upper bound of the neutrino masses. Assuming $\Lambda$ cold dark matter cosmology and a star formation efficiency $ \in [0.05, 0.3]$ (flat prior), we perform joint analyses of Planck+JWST and Planck+BAO+JWST, and obtain improved constraints $\sum m_\nu < 0.196\,\mathrm{eV}$ and $\sum m_\nu < 0.111\,\mathrm{eV}$ at 95% confidence level, respectively. Based on the above assumptions, the inverted mass ordering, which implies $\sum m_\nu\geq 0.1\mathrm{eV}$, is excluded by Planck+BAO+JWST at 92.7% confidence level.

Equilibrium, social welfare, and revenue in an infinite-server queue

Motivated by the impact of emerging technologies on toll parks, this paper studies a problem of equilibrium, social welfare, and revenue for an infinite-server queue. More specifically, we assume that a customer's utility consists of a positive reward for receiving service minus a cost caused by the other customers in the system. In the observable setting, we show the existence, uniqueness, and expressions of the individual threshold, the socially optimal threshold, and the optimal revenue threshold, respectively. Then, we prove that the optimal revenue threshold is smaller than the socially optimal threshold, which is smaller than the individual one. Furthermore, we also extend the cost functions to any finite polynomial function with non-negative coefficients. In the unobservable setting, we derive the joining probabilities of individual and optimal revenue. Finally, using numerical experiments, we complement our results and compare the social welfare and the revenue under these two information levels.
