Growth of (NaxKy)FezSe2 crystals by chlorides flux at low temperatures

(NaxKy)FezSe2 crystals are prepared by Na, Fe, and Se as starting materials in NaCl/KCl flux at low temperatures~720 °C. It is found that K is more preferred than Na to enter in between FeSe layers and forms the phase. Thus-obtained crystals contain more superconducting phase in volume fraction and exhibit new features in transport property. Our results provide a promising new synthetic route for preparing quality crystals of iron selenide superconductors.

Probing the Electron States and Metal-Insulator Transition Mechanisms in Atomically Thin MoS2 Based on Vertical Heterostructures

The metal-insulator transition (MIT) is one of the remarkable electrical transport properties of atomically thin molybdenum disulphide (MoS2). Although the theory of electron-electron interactions has been used in modeling the MIT phenomena in MoS2, the underlying mechanism and detailed MIT process still remain largely unexplored. Here, we demonstrate that the vertical metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) heterostructures built from atomically thin MoS2 (monolayers and multilayers) are ideal capacitor structures for probing the electron states in MoS2. The vertical configuration of MIS heterostructures offers the added advantage of eliminating the influence of large impedance at the band tails and allows the observation of fully excited electron states near the surface of MoS2 over a wide excitation frequency (100 Hz-1 MHz) and temperature range (2 K- 300 K). By combining capacitance and transport measurements, we have observed a percolation-type MIT, driven by density inhomogeneities of electron states, in the vertical heterostructures built from monolayer and multilayer MoS2. In addition, the valence band of thin MoS2 layers and their intrinsic properties such as thickness-dependence screening abilities and band gap widths can be easily accessed and precisely determined through the vertical heterostructures.

Superconducting Phases in Potassium-Intercalated Iron Selenides

The ubiquitous coexistence of majority insulating 245 phases and minority superconducting (SC) phases in AxFe2-ySe2 (A = K, Cs, Rb, Tl/Rb, Tl/K) formed by high-temperature routes makes pure SC phases highly desirable for studying the intrinsic properties of this SC family. Here we report that there are at least two pure SC phases, KxFe2Se2(NH3)y (x ~ 0.3 and 0.6), determined mainly by potassium concentration in the K-intercalated iron selenides formed via the liquid ammonia route. K0.3Fe2Se2(NH3)0.47 corresponds to the 44 K phase with lattice constant c = 15.56(1) angstroms and K0.6Fe2Se2(NH3)0.37 to the 30 K phase with c = 14.84(1) angstroms. With higher potassium doping, the 44 K phase can be converted into the 30 K phase. NH3 has little, if any, effect on superconductivity. Thus, the conclusions should apply to both K0.3Fe2Se2 and K0.6Fe2Se2 SC phases. K0.3Fe2Se2(NH3)0.47 and K0.6Fe2Se2(NH3)0.37 stand out among known superconductors as their structures are stable only at particular potassium doping levels, and hence the variation of Tc with doping is not dome-like.

Pressure-Driven Quantum Criticality in An Iron-Selenide Superconductor

The discovery of superconductivity of about 30 K in iron selenides with very large magnetic moments simulates the examination of completing orders. Here we report a finding of pressure- induced suppression of the superconducting transition temperature Tc and enhancement of the temperature of the resistance hump TH through charge transfer between two iron sites with different occupancies. The activation energy for the electric transport of the high-temperature resistance is observed to go to zero at a critical pressure of 8.7 GPa, at which superconductivity tends to disappear and the semiconductor-to-metal transition takes place. Beyond the critical point, the resistance exhibits a metallic behavior over the whole temperature range studied. All these features indicate the existence of quantum criticality in iron-selenide superconductors.

Social Recommender Systems Based on Coupling Network Structure Analysis

The past few years has witnessed the great success of recommender systems, which can significantly help users find relevant and interesting items for them in the information era. However, a vast class of researches in this area mainly focus on predicting missing links in bipartite user-item networks (represented as behavioral networks). Comparatively, the social impact, especially the network structure based properties, is relatively lack of study. In this paper, we firstly obtain five corresponding network-based features, including user activity, average neighbors' degree, clustering coefficient, assortative coefficient and discrimination, from social and behavioral networks, respectively. A hybrid algorithm is proposed to integrate those features from two respective networks. Subsequently, we employ a machine learning process to use those features to provide recommendation results in a binary classifier method. Experimental results on a real dataset, Flixster, suggest that the proposed method can significantly enhance the algorithmic accuracy. In addition, as network-based properties consider not only the social activities, but also take into account user preferences in the behavioral networks, therefore, it performs much better than that from either social or behavioral networks. Furthermore, since the features based on the behavioral network contain more diverse and meaningfully structural information, they play a vital role in uncovering users' potential preference, which, might show light in deeply understanding the structure and function of the social and behavioral networks.

Reemerging superconductivity at 48 K across quantum criticality in iron chalcogenides

Pressure plays an essential role in the induction1 and control2,3 of superconductivity in iron-based superconductors. Substitution of a smaller rare-earth ion for the bigger one to simulate the pressure effects has surprisingly raised the superconducting transition temperature Tc to the record high 55 K in these materials4,5. However, Tc always goes down after passing through a maximum at some pressure and the superconductivity eventually tends to disappear at sufficiently high pressures1-3. Here we show that the superconductivity can reemerge with a much higher Tc after its destruction upon compression from the ambient-condition value of around 31 K in newly discovered iron chalcogenide superconductors. We find that in the second superconducting phase the maximum Tc is as high as 48.7 K for K0.8Fe1.70Se2 and 48 K for (Tl0.6Rb0.4)Fe1.67Se2, setting the new Tc record in chalcogenide superconductors. The presence of the second superconducting phase is proposed to be related to pressure-induced quantum criticality. Our findings point to the potential route to the further achievement of high-Tc superconductivity in iron-based and other superconductors.

Superconductivity on the verge of Mott localization in ternary iron sulfide

We report the results of electrical and magnetic properties on two new compounds, K0.8Fe1.7S2 and K0.8Fe1.7SeS, both having similar structures to newly discovered superconducting K0.8Fe1.7Se2. K0.8Fe1.7S2 exhibits a semiconductor-like electrical property and undergoes an anti-ferromagnetic transition at about 260 K. Upon replacing half of S with Se, K0.8Fe1.7SSe becomes a superconductor at 25 K, implying the superconductivity evolves from a Mott AFM state in Fe-Se based superconductors.

Quenching of superconductivity by Co doping in K0.8Fe2Se2

We synthesized a series of K0.8Fe2-xCoxSe2 samples with nominal compositions 0\leq x\leq 0.035 and investigated their physical properties. The results show that the superconductivity in K0.8Fe2-xCoxSe2 is quenched down to 5 K by 0.5 at. % Co doping, the fastest quenching rate ever-reported. The role played here by Co is in contrast with the one in FeAs based superconductors where Co usually induces superconductivity from parent compounds. Such a rapid quenching favors a localized 3d model against the itinerant one for iron pnictide superconductors.

Superconductivity in the iron selenide KxFe2Se2 (0 <= x <= 1)

We report the superconductivity at above 30 K in a new FeSe-layer compound K0.8Fe2Se2 (nominal composition) achieved by metal K intercalating in between FeSe layers. It is isostructural to BaFe2As2 and possesses the highest Tc for FeSe-layer materials so far under ambient pressure. Hall effect indicates the carriers are dominated by electron in this superconductor. We confirm that the observed superconductivity at above 30 K is due to this new FeSe-based 122 phase. Our results demonstrate that FeSe-layer materials are really remarkable superconductors via structure and carrier modulation.
