Coupling-Aware RHS Beamforming for Wideband Multi-User Sum Rate Maximization

Wideband multi-user transmission assisted by reconfigurable holographic surfaces (RHSs) is fundamentally limited by mutual coupling effect among densely packed sub-wavelength radiation elements. This paper develops a coupling-aware wideband RHS model and an efficient joint beamforming framework to maximize the multi-user sum rate under practical feeder power and RHS excitation power constraints. We establish an electromagnetic equivalent model based on magnetic-dipole elements and a physically interpretable coupling decomposition into free space near field coupling and guided surface wave coupling. For optimization, we employ a weighted minimum mean square error (WMMSE)-based block coordinate method with a closed-form digital precoder update and introduce a Jacobian-aided coupling consistent hologram update that preserves coupling sensitivity via a first-order surrogate while keeping the hologram subproblem convex and efficiently solvable by projected first-order methods. Meep experiments verify the correctness of the proposed coupling model, and the simulations for a 28~GHz, 1~GHz-bandwidth RHS downlink prove the effectiveness of Jacobian-aided WMMSE-based method.

POIROT: Investigating Direct Tangible vs. Digitally Mediated Interaction and Attitude Moderation in Multi-party Murder Mystery Games

As social robots take on increasingly complex roles like game masters (GMs) in multi-party games, the expectation that physicality universally enhances user experience remains debated. This study challenges the "one-size-fits-all" view of tangible interaction by identifying a critical boundary condition: users' Negative Attitudes towards Robots (NARS). In a between-subjects experiment (N = 67), a custom-built robot GM facilitated a multi-party murder mystery game (MMG) by delivering clues either through direct tangible interaction or a digitally mediated interface. Baseline multivariate analysis (MANOVA) showed no significant main effect of delivery modality, confirming that tangibility alone does not guarantee superior engagement. However, primary analysis using multilevel linear models (MLM) revealed a reliable moderation: participants high in NARS experienced markedly lower narrative immersion under tangible delivery, whereas those with low NARS scores showed no such decrement. Qualitative findings further illuminate this divergence: tangibility provides novelty and engagement for some but imposes excessive proxemic friction for anxious users, for whom the digital interface acts as a protective social buffer. These results advance a conditional model of HRI and emphasize the necessity for adaptive systems that can tailor interaction modalities to user predispositions.

VLBI astrometry of radio stars to link radio and optical celestial reference frames - II. 11 radio stars

The alignment between the radio-based International Celestial Reference Frame (ICRF) and the optical Gaia Celestial Reference Frame (Gaia-CRF) is critical for multi-waveband astronomy, yet systematic offsets at the optical bright end (G<13) limit their consistency. While radio stars offer a potential link between these frames, their utility has been restricted by the scarcity of precise Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) astrometry. In this study, we present new VLBI astrometry of 11 radio stars using the Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA), expanding the existing sample with positions, parallaxes, and proper motions measured. All 11 radio stars were detected, for 10 of which parallaxes and proper motions can be estimated, achieving median uncertainties better than 0.1 mas and 0.1 mas/yr, respectively. These new samples greatly contribute to the link between ICRF and Gaia-CRF at the optical bright end.

Rotatable IRS Aided Wireless Communication

Rotatable intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) introduces a new spatial degree of freedom (DoF) by dynamically adjusting orientations without the need of changing its elements' positions in real time. To unleash the full potential of rotatable IRSs for wireless communications, this paper investigates the joint optimization of IRS rotation angles to maximize the minimum expected signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) over all locations within a given target area. We first propose an angle-dependent channel model that accurately characterizes the reception and reflection of each IRS element. Different from the conventional cosine-law assumption, the proposed model captures the practical electromagnetic characteristics of the IRS, including the effective reception area and reflection efficiency. For the single target location case, a particle swarm optimization (PSO)-based algorithm is developed to solve the SNR maximization problem, and a closed-form expression for a near-optimal solution is derived to provide useful insights. For the general area coverage enhancement case, the optimal rotation is obtained through a two-loop PSO-based iterative algorithm with null-point detection. In this algorithm, the outer loop updates the global rotation angles to maximize the minimum SNR over the target area, whereas the inner loop evaluates the SNR distribution within the area to identify the location corresponding to the minimum SNR through null-point detection. Numerical results demonstrate significant SNR improvement achieved by the proposed rotatable IRS design over various benchmark schemes under different system setups.

THz RHS Transceiver for Low-Latency Multi-User VR Transmission with MEC

This paper investigates a Terahertz (THz)-enabled mobile edge computing (MEC)-assisted virtual reality (VR) system using reconfigurable holographic surfaces (RHS) as transceiver for multi-user beamforming and holographic-pattern division multiple access (HDMA). We develop an end-to-end model for the 3D field-of-view (FoV) generation pipeline and optimize content prefetching, rendering offloading under memory and power constraints, and beamforming accommodating user movement by adjusting holographic pattern weights for beamshaping and feeds power allocation for excitation amplitude adjustment. For homogeneous FoVs, we derive closed-form policies for prefetching 2D or 3D FoVs or direct transmission of 3D FoVs. For heterogeneous FoVs, we exploit the timescale separation between prefetching/rendering and fast RHS beamforming, decomposing the optimization into a rendering-prefetching combinatorial optimization problem and a short-timescale beamforming convex optimization problem. Simulations show significant latency reductions under tight resource constraints.

Low-Altitude ISAC with Rotatable Active and Passive Arrays

This paper investigates a low-altitude integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system that leverages cooperative rotatable active and passive arrays. We consider a downlink scenario where a base station (BS) with an active rotatable array serves multiple communication users and senses low-altitude targets, assisted by a rotatable reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS). A rotation-aware geometry-based multipath model is developed to capture the impact of three-dimensional (3D) array orientations on both steering vectors and direction-dependent element gains. On this basis, we formulate a new optimization problem that maximizes the downlink sum rate subject to a transmit power budget, RIS unit-modulus constraints, mechanical rotation limits, and a sensing beampattern mean-squared-error (MSE) constraint. To address the resulting highly non-convex problem, we propose a penalty-based alternating-optimization (AO) framework that alternately updates the BS precoder, RIS phase shifts, and BS/RIS array rotation angles. The three blocks are efficiently handled via a convex optimization method based on quadratic-transform (QT) and majorization-minorization (MM), Riemannian conjugate gradient (RCG) on the unit-modulus manifold, and projected gradient descent (PGD) with Barzilai-Borwein step sizes, respectively. Numerical results in low-altitude geometries demonstrate that the proposed jointly rotatable BS-RIS architecture achieves significant sum-rate gains over fixed or partially rotatable baselines while guaranteeing sensing requirements, especially with directional antennas and in interference-limited regimes.

Low-Altitude Reflection via UAV-Mounted Rotatable IRS

Low-altitude network is a key enabler for extending coverage and recovering connectivity in 6G systems, especially when terrestrial infrastructure is unavailable. This paper studies a uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV)-mounted rotatable intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) as a low-altitude reflector between a blocked base station (BS) and a ground terminal (GT). Unlike the conventional isotropic-element assumption, each IRS element is modeled with a hemispherical directive radiation pattern, whose boresight can be adjusted via element rotations. We formulate a new optimization problem that jointly designs IRS phase shifts, per-element rotation vectors, and UAV placement to maximize the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Leveraging the problem structure, we derive closed-form solutions for phase alignment and element rotations, showing that the optimal boresight points are along the internal angular bisector between the BS-IRS and GT-IRS directions. With these closed forms, the design reduces to a placement optimization problem over a box-constrained airspace; we solve it using an efficient projected gradient algorithm with majorization-minimization update and a global Lipschitz constant. Numerical results demonstrate substantial SNR gains from directive elements and reveal a fundamental trade-off between directional gain and path loss, yielding useful insights into low-altitude deployment of UAV-mounted IRSs.

LLM-Empowered Cooperative Content Caching in Vehicular Fog Caching-Assisted Platoon Networks

This letter proposes a novel three-tier content caching architecture for Vehicular Fog Caching (VFC)-assisted platoon, where the VFC is formed by the vehicles driving near the platoon. The system strategically coordinates storage across local platoon vehicles, dynamic VFC clusters, and cloud server (CS) to minimize content retrieval latency. To efficiently manage distributed storage, we integrate large language models (LLMs) for real-time and intelligent caching decisions. The proposed approach leverages LLMs' ability to process heterogeneous information, including user profiles, historical data, content characteristics, and dynamic system states. Through a designed prompting framework encoding task objectives and caching constraints, the LLMs formulate caching as a decision-making task, and our hierarchical deterministic caching mapping strategy enables adaptive requests prediction and precise content placement across three tiers without frequent retraining. Simulation results demonstrate the advantages of our proposed caching scheme.

Continuous-wave, high-resolution, ultra-broadband mid-infrared nonlinear spectroscopy with tunable plasmonic nanocavities

Vibrational sum- and difference-frequency generation (SFG and DFG) spectroscopy probes the nonlinear response of interfaces at mid-infrared (MIR) wavelengths while detecting upconverted signals in the visible. Recent work has moved from large-area films and colloids to nanoscale structures using dual-resonant plasmonic nanocavities that co-confine light and matter in deep-subwavelength volumes. Here we implement high-resolution ($<1$~cm$^{-1}$), continuous-wave ultrabroadband vSFG, vDFG, and four-wave mixing (FWM) coherent spectroscopy from 860 to 1670~cm$^{-1}$ on dual-resonant antennas under ambient conditions. Using a commercial, broadly tunable quantum-cascade laser and eliminating geometric phase matching simplify acquisition and expand spectral reach. The resulting spectra exhibit coherent interference between resonant (vibrational) and nonresonant (electronic) contributions to the effective $χ^{(2)}$, previously accessible only under fs/ps excitation. Simultaneous measurement of SFG and DFG enables a {ratiometric} analysis that suppresses common-mode drifts and helps reveal vibrational resonances. We demonstrate versatility and reproducibility across several analytes that span distinct relative strengths of vibrational vs. electronic nonlinearities. Together, these capabilities position our approach as a scalable route to multiplexed, high-resolution MIR sensing and a practical basis for chip-level, label-free coherent spectroscopy. It opens a feasible path toward single- and few-molecule optomechanical studies using nanoscale trapping strategies.

Joint Antenna Rotation and IRS Beamforming for Multi-User Uplink Communications

Rotatable antenna (RA) enhances wireless coverage through directional gain steering, yet suffers from performance degradation under physical blockages. Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) establishes reflective paths to bypass obstacles, but suffers from angular mismatch when deployed in the side-lobe region of base station (BS) antennas. To address this issue, we propose a new RA-enabled IRS-assisted multi-user uplink system, in which the BS antennas are capable of flexibly adjusting their 3D orientations to align their boresights with the IRS. We formulate a sum rate maximization problem by jointly optimizing the antenna 3D rotations, receive beamforming and IRS phase shifts. To tackle this non-convex problem, we propose an efficient alternating optimization (AO) algorithm. Specifically, we iteratively update the antenna rotations via projected gradient ascent (PGA), compute the receive beamforming via a closed-form solution, and optimize the IRS phase shifts via fractional programming (FP). Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed system yields significant performance gains over conventional fixed-antenna systems, especially under large angular misalignments.

Two-Scale Spatial Deployment for Cost-Effective Wireless Networks via Cooperative IRSs and Movable Antennas

This paper proposes a two-scale spatial deployment strategy to ensure reliable coverage for multiple target areas, integrating macroscopic intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) and fine-grained movable antennas (MAs). Specifically, IRSs are selectively deployed from candidate sites to shape the propagation geometry, while MAs are locally repositioned among discretized locations to exploit small-scale channel variations. The objective is to minimize the total deployment cost of MAs and IRSs by jointly optimizing the IRS site selection, MA positions, transmit precoding, and IRS phase shifts, subject to the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) requirements for all target areas. This leads to a challenging mixed-integer non-convex optimization problem that is intractable to solve directly. To address this, we first formulate an auxiliary problem to verify the feasibility. A penalty-based double-loop algorithm integrating alternating optimization and successive convex approximation (SCA) is developed to solve this feasibility issue, which is subsequently adapted to obtain a suboptimal solution for the original cost minimization problem. Finally, based on the obtained solution, we formulate an element refinement problem to further reduce the deployment cost, which is solved by a penalty-based SCA algorithm. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed designs consistently outperform benchmarks relying on independent area planning or full IRS deployment in terms of cost-efficiency. Moreover, for cost minimization, MA architectures are preferable in large placement apertures, whereas fully populated FPA architectures excel in compact ones; for worst-case SNR maximization, MA architectures exhibit a lower cost threshold for feasibility, while FPA architectures can attain peak SNR at a lower total cost.

Parallel Latent Reasoning for Sequential Recommendation

Capturing complex user preferences from sparse behavioral sequences remains a fundamental challenge in sequential recommendation. Recent latent reasoning methods have shown promise by extending test-time computation through multi-step reasoning, yet they exclusively rely on depth-level scaling along a single trajectory, suffering from diminishing returns as reasoning depth increases. To address this limitation, we propose \textbf{Parallel Latent Reasoning (PLR)}, a novel framework that pioneers width-level computational scaling by exploring multiple diverse reasoning trajectories simultaneously. PLR constructs parallel reasoning streams through learnable trigger tokens in continuous latent space, preserves diversity across streams via global reasoning regularization, and adaptively synthesizes multi-stream outputs through mixture-of-reasoning-streams aggregation. Extensive experiments on three real-world datasets demonstrate that PLR substantially outperforms state-of-the-art baselines while maintaining real-time inference efficiency. Theoretical analysis further validates the effectiveness of parallel reasoning in improving generalization capability. Our work opens new avenues for enhancing reasoning capacity in sequential recommendation beyond existing depth scaling.

Two-Timescale Design for Movable Antenna-Enabled Multiuser MIMO Systems

Movable antennas (MAs), which can be swiftly repositioned within a defined region, offer a promising solution to the limitations of fixed-position antennas (FPAs) in adapting to spatial variations in wireless channels, thereby improving channel conditions and communication between transceivers. However, frequent MA position adjustments based on instantaneous channel state information (CSI) incur high operational complexity, making real-time CSI acquisition impractical, especially in fast-fading channels. To address these challenges, we propose a two-timescale transmission framework for MA-enabled multiuser multiple-input-multiple-output (MU-MIMO) systems. In the large timescale, statistical CSI is exploited to optimize MA positions for long-term ergodic performance, whereas, in the small timescale, beamforming vectors are designed using instantaneous CSI to handle short-term channel fluctuations. Within this new framework, we analyze the ergodic sum rate and develop efficient MA position optimization algorithms for both maximum-ratio-transmission (MRT) and zero-forcing (ZF) beamforming schemes. These algorithms employ alternating optimization (AO), successive convex approximation (SCA), and majorization-minimization (MM) techniques, iteratively optimizing antenna positions and refining surrogate functions that approximate the ergodic sum rate. Numerical results show significant ergodic sum rate gains with the proposed two-timescale MA design over conventional FPA systems, particularly under moderate to strong line-of-sight (LoS) conditions. Notably, MA with ZF beamforming consistently outperforms MA with MRT, highlighting the synergy between beamforming and MAs for superior interference management in environments with moderate Rician factors and high user density, while MA with MRT can offer a simplified alternative to complex beamforming designs in strong LoS conditions.

Integrating Movable Antennas and Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces (MA-IRS): Fundamentals, Practical Solutions, and ISAC

Movable antennas (MAs) and intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) enable active antenna repositioning and passive phase-shift tuning for channel reconfiguration, respectively. Integrating MAs and IRSs boosts spatial degrees of freedom, significantly enhancing wireless network capacity, coverage, and reliability. In this article, we first present the fundamentals of MA-IRS integration, involving clarifying the key design issues, revealing performance gain, and identifying the conditions where MA-IRS synergy persists. Then, we examine practical challenges and propose pragmatic design solutions, including optimization schemes, hardware architectures, deployment strategies, and robust designs for hardware impairments and mobility management. In addition, we highlight how MA-IRS architectures uniquely support advanced integrated sensing and communication, enhancing sensing performance and dual-functional flexibility. Overall, MA-IRS integration emerges as a compelling approach toward next-generation reconfigurable wireless systems.

Dual-IRS Aided Near-/Hybrid-Field SWIPT: Passive Beamforming and Independent Antenna Power Splitting Design

This paper proposes a novel dual-intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) aided interference-limited simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system with independent power splitting (PS), where each receiving antenna applies different PS factors to offer an advantageous trade-off between the useful information and harvested energy. We separately establish the near- and hybrid-field channel models for IRS-reflected links to evaluate the performance gain more precisely and practically. Specifically, we formulate an optimization problem of maximizing the harvested power by jointly optimizing dual-IRS phase shifts, independent PS ratio, and receive beamforming vector in both near- and hybrid-field cases. In the near-field case, the alternating optimization algorithm is proposed to solve the non-convex problem by applying the Lagrange duality method and the difference-of-convex (DC) programming. In the hybrid-field case, we first present an interesting result that the AP-IRS-user channel gains are invariant to the phase shifts of dual-IRS, which allows the optimization problem to be transformed into a convex one. Then, we derive the asymptotic performance of the combined channel gains in closed-form and analyze the characteristics of the dual-IRS. Numerical results validate our analysis and indicate the performance gains of the proposed scheme that dual-IRS-aided SWIPT with independent PS over other benchmark schemes.

Synchronous Differential Hot-charge Emission Spectroscopy: The Principle

Energy-level alignment (ELA) at buried interfaces between electrode and molecular materials sets charge injection barriers, carrier selectivity, and ultimately device efficiency, yet it is challenging to quantify under operating conditions. Hot-charge emission spectroscopy (HotES) probes ELA by injecting ballistic carriers across a tunneling oxide. Yet, the technique inherently convolutes the molecular response with a strong, energy-dependent tunneling background, complicating the isolation of the true ELA. We introduce synchronous differential HotES (sd-HotES), defined as the ratio of the differential conductance of the hot-charge and tunneling channels of the HotES. Physical modeling and numerical simulations validate that this ratio directly reconstructs the intrinsic molecular charge transmission, enabling the threshold-free and probe-bias-insensitive extraction of ELA. By effectively eliminating the masking tunneling background, sd-HotES substantially boosts detection sensitivity; weak spectral features previously hidden in conventional HotES become clearly resolvable, as demonstrated in lock-in simulations including realistic noise. This study establishes the fundamental operating principles of sd-HotES and highlights it as a powerful, broadly applicable strategy for accessing buried interface properties for the study of molecular and hybrid devices.

ReaSeq: Unleashing World Knowledge via Reasoning for Sequential Modeling

Industrial recommender systems face two fundamental limitations under the log-driven paradigm: (1) knowledge poverty in ID-based item representations that causes brittle interest modeling under data sparsity, and (2) systemic blindness to beyond-log user interests that constrains model performance within platform boundaries. These limitations stem from an over-reliance on shallow interaction statistics and close-looped feedback while neglecting the rich world knowledge about product semantics and cross-domain behavioral patterns that Large Language Models have learned from vast corpora. To address these challenges, we introduce ReaSeq, a reasoning-enhanced framework that leverages world knowledge in Large Language Models to address both limitations through explicit and implicit reasoning. Specifically, ReaSeq employs explicit Chain-of-Thought reasoning via multi-agent collaboration to distill structured product knowledge into semantically enriched item representations, and latent reasoning via Diffusion Large Language Models to infer plausible beyond-log behaviors. Deployed on Taobao's ranking system serving hundreds of millions of users, ReaSeq achieves substantial gains: >6.0% in IPV and CTR, >2.9% in Orders, and >2.5% in GMV, validating the effectiveness of world-knowledge-enhanced reasoning over purely log-driven approaches.
