Local Linear Constraint based Optimization Model for Dual Spectral CT

Dual spectral computed tomography (DSCT) can achieve energy- and material-selective images, and has a superior distinguishability of some materials than conventional single spectral computed tomography (SSCT). However, the decomposition process is illposed, which is sensitive with noise, thus the quality of decomposed images are usually degraded, especially the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is much lower than single spectra based directly reconstructions. In this work, we first establish a local linear relationship between dual spectra based decomposed results and single spectra based directly reconstructed images. Then, based on this constraint, we propose an optimization model for DSCT and develop a guided image filtering based iterative solution method. Both simulated and real experiments are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

$P$-wave coupled channel effects in electron-positron annihilation

$P$-wave coupled channel effects arising from the $D\bar{D}$, $D\bar{D}^*+c.c.$, and $D^*\bar{D}^*$ thresholds in $e^+e^-$ annihilations are systematically studied. We provide an exploratory study by solving the Lippmann-Schwinger equation with short-ranged contact potentials obtained in the heavy quark limit. These contact potentials can be extracted from the $P$-wave interactions in the $e^+e^-$ annihilations, and then be employed to investigate possible isosinglet $P$-wave hadronic molecules. In particular, such an investigation may provide information about exotic candidates with quantum numbers $J^{PC}=1^{-+}$. In the mass region of the $D\bar{D}$, $D\bar{D}^*+c.c.$, and $D^*\bar{D}^*$ thresholds, there are two quark model bare states, i.e. the $ψ(3770)$ and $ψ(4040)$, which are assigned as $(1^3D_1)$ and $(3^1S_1)$ states, respectively. By an overall fit of the cross sections of $e^+e^-\to D\bar{D}$, $D\bar{D}^*+c.c.$, $D^*\bar{D}^*$, we determine the physical coupling constants to each channel and extract the pole positions of the $ψ(3770)$ and $ψ(4040)$. The deviation of the ratios from that in the heavy quark spin symmetry (HQSS) limit reflects the HQSS breaking effect due to the mass splitting between the $D$ and the $D^*$. Besides the two poles, we also find a pole a few MeV above the $D\bar{D}^*+c.c.$ threshold which can be related to the so-called $G(3900)$ observed earlier by BABAR and Belle. This scenario can be further scrutinized by measuring the angular distribution in the $D^*\bar{D}^*$ channel with high luminosity experiments.

Private and Truthful Aggregative Game for Large-Scale Spectrum Sharing

Thanks to the rapid development of information technology, the size of the wireless network becomes larger and larger, which makes spectrum resources more precious than ever before. To improve the efficiency of spectrum utilization, game theory has been applied to study the spectrum sharing in wireless networks for a long time. However, the scale of wireless network in existing studies is relatively small. In this paper, we introduce a novel game and model the spectrum sharing problem as an aggregative game for large-scale, heterogeneous, and dynamic networks. The massive usage of spectrum also leads to easier privacy divulgence of spectrum users' actions, which calls for privacy and truthfulness guarantees in wireless network. In a large decentralized scenario, each user has no priori about other users' decisions, which forms an incomplete information game. A "weak mediator", e.g., the base station or licensed spectrum regulator, is introduced and turns this game into a complete one, which is essential to reach a Nash equilibrium (NE). By utilizing past experience on the channel access, we propose an online learning algorithm to improve the utility of each user, achieving NE over time. Our learning algorithm also provides no regret guarantee to each user. Our mechanism admits an approximate ex-post NE. We also prove that it satisfies the joint differential privacy and is incentive-compatible. Efficiency of the approximate NE is evaluated, and the innovative scaling law results are disclosed. Finally, we provide simulation results to verify our analysis.

Robust Gait Recognition by Integrating Inertial and RGBD Sensors

Gait has been considered as a promising and unique biometric for person identification. Traditionally, gait data are collected using either color sensors, such as a CCD camera, depth sensors, such as a Microsoft Kinect, or inertial sensors, such as an accelerometer. However, a single type of sensors may only capture part of the dynamic gait features and make the gait recognition sensitive to complex covariate conditions, leading to fragile gait-based person identification systems. In this paper, we propose to combine all three types of sensors for gait data collection and gait recognition, which can be used for important identification applications, such as identity recognition to access a restricted building or area. We propose two new algorithms, namely EigenGait and TrajGait, to extract gait features from the inertial data and the RGBD (color and depth) data, respectively. Specifically, EigenGait extracts general gait dynamics from the accelerometer readings in the eigenspace and TrajGait extracts more detailed sub-dynamics by analyzing 3D dense trajectories. Finally, both extracted features are fed into a supervised classifier for gait recognition and person identification. Experiments on 50 subjects, with comparisons to several other state-of-the-art gait-recognition approaches, show that the proposed approach can achieve higher recognition accuracy and robustness.

Open charm contributions to the E1 transitions of $ψ(3686)$ and $ψ(3770)\to γχ_{cJ}$

The E1 transitions of $ψ(3686)$ and $ψ(3770)\to γχ_{cJ}$ are investigated in a non-relativistic effective field theory (NREFT) where the open charm effects are included systematically as the leading corrections. It also allows a self-consistent inclusion of the $S$-$D$ mixing in the same framework. We are able to show that the open charm contributions are essential for understanding the significant discrepancies between the non-relativistic leading order calculations and the experimental data.

Who Leads the Clothing Fashion: Style, Color, or Texture? A Computational Study

It is well known that clothing fashion is a distinctive and often habitual trend in the style in which a person dresses. Clothing fashions are usually expressed with visual stimuli such as style, color, and texture. However, it is not clear which visual stimulus places higher/lower influence on the updating of clothing fashion. In this study, computer vision and machine learning techniques are employed to analyze the influence of different visual stimuli on clothing-fashion updates. Specifically, a classification-based model is proposed to quantify the influence of different visual stimuli, in which each visual stimulus's influence is quantified by its corresponding accuracy in fashion classification. Experimental results demonstrate that, on clothing-fashion updates, the style holds a higher influence than the color, and the color holds a higher influence than the texture.

An intrinsic hyperboloid approach for Einstein Klein-Gordon equations

In [7] Klainerman introduced the hyperboloidal method to prove the global existence results for nonlinear Klein-Gordon equations by using commuting vector fields. In this paper, we extend the hyperboloidal method from Minkowski space to Lorentzian spacetimes. This approach is developed in [14] for proving, under the maximal foliation gauge, the global nonlinear stability of Minkowski space for Einstein equations with massive scalar fields, which states that, the sufficiently small data in a compact domain, surrounded by a Schwarzschild metric, leads to a unique, globally hyperbolic, smooth and geodesically complete solution to the Einstein Klein-Gordon system. In this paper, we set up the geometric framework of the intrinsic hyperboloid approach in the curved spacetime. By performing a thorough geometric comparison between the radial normal vector field induced by the intrinsic hyperboloids and the canonical $\p_r$, we manage to control the hyperboloids when they are close to their asymptote, which is a light cone in the Schwarzschild zone. By using such geometric information, we not only obtain the crucial boundary information for running the energy method in [14], but also prove that the intrinsic geometric quantities including the Hawking mass all converge to their Schwarzschild values when approaching the asymptote.

A Time-constraint Satisfying and Cost-reducing node evaluation metric for Message Routing in Mobile Crowd Sensing Networks

In mobile crowd sensing networks data forwarding through opportunistic contacts between participants. Data is replicated to encountered participants. For optimizing data delivery ratio and reducing redundant data a lot of data forwarding schemes, which selectively replicate data to encountered participants through node's data forwarding metric are proposed. However most of them neglect a kind of redundant data whose Time-To-Live is expired. For reducing this kind of redundant data we proposed a new method to evaluate node's data forwarding metric, which is used to measure the node's probability of forwarding data to destination within data's constraint time. The method is divided into two parts. The first is evaluating nodes whether have possibility to contact destination within time constraint based on transient cluster. We propose a method to detect node's transient cluster, which is based on node's contact rate. Only node, which has possibility to contact destination, has chances to the second step. It effectively reduces the computational complexity. The second is calculating data forwarding probability of node to destination according to individual ICT (inter contact time) distribution. Evaluation results show that our proposed transient cluster detection method is more simple and quick. And from two aspects of data delivery ratio and network overhead our approach outperforms other existing data forwarding approach.

Performance Analysis and Scaling Law of MRC/MRT Relaying with CSI Error in Massive MIMO Systems

This work provides a comprehensive scaling law and performance analysis for multi-user massive MIMO relay networks, where the relay is equipped with massive antennas and uses MRC/MRT for low-complexity processing. CSI error is considered. First, a sum-rate lower bound is derived which manifests the effect of system parameters including the numbers of relay antennas and users, the CSI quality, and the transmit powers of the sources and the relay. Via a general scaling model on the system parameters with respect to the relay antenna number, the asymptotic scaling law of the SINR as a function of the parameter scalings is obtained, which shows quantitatively the tradeoff between the network parameters and their effect on the network performance. In addition, a sufficient condition on the parameter scalings for the SINR to be asymptotically deterministic is given, which covers existing studies on such analysis as special cases. Then, the scenario where the SINR increases linearly with the relay antenna number is studied. The sufficient and necessary condition on the parameter scaling for this scenario is proved. It is shown that in this case, the interference power is not asymptotically deterministic, then its distribution is derived, based on which the outage probability and average bit error rate of the relay network are analysed.

Understanding the newly observed heavy pentaquark candidates

We find that several thresholds can contribute to the enhancements of the newly observed heavy pentaquark candidates $P_c^+(4380)$ and $P_c^+(4450)$ via the anomalous triangle singularity (ATS) transitions in the specific kinematics of $Λ_b\to J/ψK^- p$. Apart from the observed two peaks we find that another peaks around 4.5 GeV can also be produced by the ATS. We also show that the $Σ_c^{(*)}$ can be produced at leading order in $Λ_b$ decay. This process is different from the triangle diagram and its threshold enhancement only appears as CUSP effects if there is no pole structure or the ATS involved. The threshold interaction associated with the presence of the ATS turns out to be a general phenomenon and plays a crucial role in the understanding of candidates for exotic states.

Optically Reconfigurable Photonic Devices

Optoelectronic components with adjustable parameters, from variable-focal-length lenses to spectral filters that can change functionality upon stimulation, have enormous technological importance. Tuning of such components is conventionally achieved by either micro- or nano-mechanical actuation of their consitutive parts, stretching or application of thermal stimuli. Here we report a new dielectric metasurface platform for reconfigurable optical components that are created with light in a non-volatile and reversible fashion. Such components are written, erased and re-written as two-dimensional binary or grey-scale patterns into a nanoscale film of phase change material by inducing a refractive-index-changing phase-transition with tailored trains of femtosecond pulses. We combine germanium-antimony-tellurium-based films optimized for high-optical-contrast ovonic switching with a sub-wavelength-resolution optical writing process to demonstrate technologically relevant devices: visible-range reconfigurable bi-chromatic and multi-focus Fresnel zone-plates, a super-oscillatory lens with sub-wavelength focus, a grey-scale hologram and a dielectric metamaterial with on-demand reflcetion and transmission resonances.

The nature of near-threshold XYZ states

We demonstrate that the recently observed $X$, $Y$, $Z$ states cannot be purely from kinematic effect. Especially the narrow near-threshold structures in elastic channels call for nearby poles of the $S$-matrix which are qualified as states. We propose a way to distinguish cusp effects from genuine states and demonstrate that (not all of) the recently observed $X$, $Y$, $Z$ states cannot be purely from kinematic effects. Especially, we show that the narrow near-threshold structures in elastic channels call for nearby poles of the $S$-matrix, since the normal kinematic cusp effect cannot produce that narrow structures in the elastic channels in contrast to genuine $S$-matrix poles. In addition, it is also discussed how spectra can be used to distinguish different scenarios proposed for the structure of those poles, such as hadro-quarkonia, tetraquarks and hadronic molecules. The basic tool employed is heavy quark spin symmetry.

Photoproduction of hidden charm pentaquark states $P_c^+(4380)$ and $P_c^+(4450)$

We propose to study the pentaquark candidates of $P_c^+(4380)$ and $P_c^+(4450)$ in $J/ψ$ photoproduction and look for further experimental evidence for their nature. Since the photoproduction process does not satisfy the so-called "anomalous triangle singularity" condition their presence in $J/ψ$ photoproduction would conclude that they should be genuine states and provide further evidence for their existence.

Molecular Precursors-Induced Surface Reconstruction at Graphene/Pt(111) Interfaces

Inspired by experimental observations of Pt(111) surfaces reconstruction at the Pt/graphene (Gr) interfaces with ordered vacancy networks in the outermost Pt layer, the mechanism of the surface reconstruction is investigated by van-der-Waals-corrected density functional theory in combination with particle-swarm optimization algorithm and ab initio atomistic thermodynamics. Our global structural search finds a more stable reconstructed (Rec) structure than that was reported before. With correction for vacancy formation energy, we demonstrate that the experimental observed surface reconstruction occurred at the earlier stages of graphene formation: 1) reconstruction occurred when C60 adsorption (before decomposition to form graphene) for C60 as a molecular precursor, or 2) reconstruction occurred when there were (partial) hydrogens retain in the adsorbed carbon structures for C2H4 and C60H30 as precursors. The reason can be attributed to that the energy gain, from the strengthened Pt-C bonding for C of C60 or for C with partial H, compensates the energy cost of formation surface vacancies and makes the reconstruction feasible, especially at elevated temperatures. In the Rec structure, two Pt-C covalent bonds are formed per unit cell, which have a great impact on the adsorbed Gr electronic structures.

Economic Viability of Paris Metro Pricing for Digital Services

Nowadays digital services, such as cloud computing and network access services, allow dynamic resource allocation and virtual resource isolation. This trend can create a new paradigm of flexible pricing schemes. A simple pricing scheme is to allocate multiple isolated service classes with differentiated prices, namely Paris Metro Pricing (PMP). The benefits of PMP are its simplicity and applicability to a wide variety of general digital services, without considering specific performance guarantees for different service classes. The central issue of our study is whether PMP is economically viable, namely whether it will produce more profit for the service provider and whether it will achieve more social welfare. Prior studies had only considered specific models and arrived at conflicting conclusions. In this article, we identify unifying principles in a general setting and derive general sufficient conditions that can guarantee the viability of PMP. We further apply the results to analyze various examples of digital services.

Employing spin symmetry to disentangle different models for the XYZ states

In order to test different models proposed for some states discovered recently in the charmonium mass range that do not fit into the pattern predicted by the conventional quark model, we derive predictions for the spectrum within the hadro-charmonium picture, the tetraquark picture as well as the hadronic molecular approach. We exploit heavy quark spin symmetry for the hadro-charmonium and hadronic molecule scenarios. The patterns that emerge from the different models turn out to be quite distinct. For example, only within the hadro-charmonium picture a pseudoscalar state emerges that is lighter than the Y(4260). Possible discovery channels of these additional states are discussed.

Could the near-threshold $XYZ$ states be simply kinematic effects?

We demonstrate that the spectacular structures discovered recently in various experiments and named as $X$, $Y$ and $Z$ states cannot be purely kinematic effects. Their existence necessarily calls for nearby poles in the $S$--matrix and they therefore qualify as states. We propose a way to distinguishing kinematic cusp effects from genuine $S$--matrix poles: the kinematic threshold cusp cannot produce a narrow peak in the invariant mass distribution in the elastic channel in contrast with a genuine $S$--matrix pole.
