NLO EW corrections to tau pair production via photon fusion in Pb-Pb ultraperipheral collision

We study the next-to-leading order (NLO) electroweak (EW) corrections to the $γγ\to τ^+ τ^-$ process in Pb-Pb ultraperipheral collision (UPC). We find that the EW correction $δσ_{\mathrm{EW}}$ decreases the total cross section $σ_{\mathrm{NLO}} = σ_{\mathrm{LO}} + δσ_{\mathrm{EW}}$ by -3\% at Pb-Pb center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02$ TeV. The weak correction plays significant role whose contribution is about -4 times of that of QED. The CMS and ATLAS collaborations use the reaction $γγ\to τ^+ τ^-$ in Pb-Pb and proton-proton UPC to constrain tau's anomalous magnetic moment $a_τ$. By parameterizing the $γττ$ vertex with two form factors $F_{1,2}$, the cross section can be written as $σ_{a_τ} = σ_{\mathrm{LO}} + δσ_{a_τ}$, where $δσ_{a_τ}$ is proportional to $a_τ$. The impact of NLO EW corrections on $a_τ$ bounds in Pb-Pb UPC is limited, as the current experimental bounds are loose. We also find that various differential distributions of the two ratios $\mathrm{d} σ_{\mathrm{NLO}}/ \mathrm{d} σ_{\mathrm{LO}}$ and $\mathrm{d} σ_{a_τ}/ \mathrm{d} σ_{\mathrm{LO}}$ have different lineshapes. This work is significant to precisely study the interaction of $γττ$ via $γγ\to τ^+ τ^-$ process.

Rota-Baxter operators on crossed modules of Lie groups and categorical solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation

In this paper, we construct a categorical solution $(\huaC, R)$ of the Yang-Baxter equation, i.e. $\huaC$ is a small category and $R: \huaC\times\huaC\lon\huaC\times\huaC$ is an invertible functor satisfying $$ (R\times\Id_\huaC)(\Id_\huaC\times R)(R\times\Id_\huaC)=(\Id_\huaC\times R)(R\times\Id_\huaC)(\Id_\huaC\times R), $$ where $\huaC\times\huaC$ is the product category. First, the notion of Rota-Baxter operators on crossed modules of Lie groups is defined and its various properties are established. Then, we use Rota-Baxter operators on crossed modules of Lie groups to construct categorical solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation. We also study the Rota-Baxter operators on crossed modules of Lie algebras which are infinitesimals of Rota-Baxter operators on crossed modules of Lie groups, they can give connections on manifolds. Finally, we study the integration of Rota-Baxter operators on crossed modules of Lie algebras and the differentials of Rota-Baxter operators on crossed modules of Lie groups.

On the integration of relative Rota-Baxter Lie algebras

In this paper, we give the necessary and sufficient conditions of the integrability of relative Rota-Baxter Lie algebras via double Lie groups, matched pairs of Lie groups and factorization of diffeomorphisms respectively. We use the integrability of Rota-Baxter operators to characterize whether the Poisson-Lie group integrating a factorizable Lie bialgebra is again factorizable. We thoroughly study the integrability of Rota-Baxter operators on the unique nontrivial 2-dimensional Lie algebra. As a byproduct, we construct a matched pair of Lie algebras that can not be integrated to a matched pair of Lie groups.

Pseudoscalar heavy quarkonium production in heavy ion ultraperipheral collision

The inclusive production of pseudoscalar heavy quarkoniua ($η_c,~η_b$ and $B_c$) via photon-photon fusion in heavy ion ultraperipheral collision (UPC) are calculated to QCD next-to-leading order in the framework of non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD). The total cross section of $η_c$ produced in Pb-Pb UPC is 194 $\mathrm{nb}$ and 1275 $\mathrm{nb}$ at nucleon-nucleon c.m. energies $\sqrt{S_{\mathrm{NN}}}=$ 5.52 TeV and 39.4 TeV, respectively. The cross sections for $η_b$ and $B_c$ mesons are more than two to three orders of magnitude smaller. We make a detailed phenomenological analysis on the $η_c$ production; the uncertainties caused by the renormalization scale and the charm quark mass, the cross sections in other ultraperipheral nucleon-nucleon colliding systems, and the transverse momentum distribution are discussed. At the coming HL-LHC and future FCC, the heavy ion UPC opens another door of the study on the production of heavy quarkonium.

Multimodal Alignment of Histopathological Images Using Cell Segmentation and Point Set Matching for Integrative Cancer Analysis

Histopathological imaging is vital for cancer research and clinical practice, with multiplexed Immunofluorescence (MxIF) and Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) providing complementary insights. However, aligning different stains at the cell level remains a challenge due to modality differences. In this paper, we present a novel framework for multimodal image alignment using cell segmentation outcomes. By treating cells as point sets, we apply Coherent Point Drift (CPD) for initial alignment and refine it with Graph Matching (GM). Evaluated on ovarian cancer tissue microarrays (TMAs), our method achieves high alignment accuracy, enabling integration of cell-level features across modalities and generating virtual H&E images from MxIF data for enhanced clinical interpretation.

Assessing Reusability of Deep Learning-Based Monotherapy Drug Response Prediction Models Trained with Omics Data

Cancer drug response prediction (DRP) models present a promising approach towards precision oncology, tailoring treatments to individual patient profiles. While deep learning (DL) methods have shown great potential in this area, models that can be successfully translated into clinical practice and shed light on the molecular mechanisms underlying treatment response will likely emerge from collaborative research efforts. This highlights the need for reusable and adaptable models that can be improved and tested by the wider scientific community. In this study, we present a scoring system for assessing the reusability of prediction DRP models, and apply it to 17 peer-reviewed DL-based DRP models. As part of the IMPROVE (Innovative Methodologies and New Data for Predictive Oncology Model Evaluation) project, which aims to develop methods for systematic evaluation and comparison DL models across scientific domains, we analyzed these 17 DRP models focusing on three key categories: software environment, code modularity, and data availability and preprocessing. While not the primary focus, we also attempted to reproduce key performance metrics to verify model behavior and adaptability. Our assessment of 17 DRP models reveals both strengths and shortcomings in model reusability. To promote rigorous practices and open-source sharing, we offer recommendations for developing and sharing prediction models. Following these recommendations can address many of the issues identified in this study, improving model reusability without adding significant burdens on researchers. This work offers the first comprehensive assessment of reusability and reproducibility across diverse DRP models, providing insights into current model sharing practices and promoting standards within the DRP and broader AI-enabled scientific research community.

Stability and rigidity of 3-Lie algebra morphisms

In this paper, first we use the higher derived brackets to construct an $L_\infty$-algebra, whose Maurer-Cartan elements are $3$-Lie algebra morphisms. Using the differential in the $L_\infty$-algebra that govern deformations of the morphism, we give the cohomology of a $3$-Lie algebra morphism. Then we study the rigidity and stability of $3$-Lie algebra morphisms using the established cohomology theory. In particular, we show that if the first cohomology group is trivial, then the morphism is rigid; if the second cohomology group is trivial, then the morphism is stable. Finally, we study the stability of $3$-Lie subalgebras similarly.

Variational and Explanatory Neural Networks for Encoding Cancer Profiles and Predicting Drug Responses

Human cancers present a significant public health challenge and require the discovery of novel drugs through translational research. Transcriptomics profiling data that describes molecular activities in tumors and cancer cell lines are widely utilized for predicting anti-cancer drug responses. However, existing AI models face challenges due to noise in transcriptomics data and lack of biological interpretability. To overcome these limitations, we introduce VETE (Variational and Explanatory Transcriptomics Encoder), a novel neural network framework that incorporates a variational component to mitigate noise effects and integrates traceable gene ontology into the neural network architecture for encoding cancer transcriptomics data. Key innovations include a local interpretability-guided method for identifying ontology paths, a visualization tool to elucidate biological mechanisms of drug responses, and the application of centralized large scale hyperparameter optimization. VETE demonstrated robust accuracy in cancer cell line classification and drug response prediction. Additionally, it provided traceable biological explanations for both tasks and offers insights into the mechanisms underlying its predictions. VETE bridges the gap between AI-driven predictions and biologically meaningful insights in cancer research, which represents a promising advancement in the field.

Deformation maps of quasi-twilled Lie algebras

In this paper, we provide a unified approach to study the cohomology theories and deformation theories of various types of operators in the category of Lie algebras, including modified $r$-matrices, crossed homomorphisms, derivations, homomorphisms, relative Rota-Baxter operators, twisted Rota-Baxter operators, Reynolds operators and deformation maps of matched pairs of Lie algebras. The main ingredients are quasi-twilled Lie algebras. We introduce two types of deformation maps of a quasi-twilled Lie algebra. Deformation maps of type I unify modified $r$-matrices, crossed homomorphisms, derivations and homomorphisms between Lie algebras, while deformation maps of type II unify relative Rota-Baxter operators, twisted Rota-Baxter operators, Reynolds operators and deformation maps of matched pairs of Lie algebras. We further give the controlling algebras and cohomologies of these two types of deformation maps, which not only recover the existing results for crossed homomorphisms, derivations, homomorphisms, relative Rota-Baxter operators, twisted Rota-Baxter operators and Reynolds operators, but also leads to some new results which are unable to solve before, e.g. the controlling algebras and cohomologies of modified $r$-matrices and deformation maps of matched pairs of Lie algebras.

Doubly heavy hadrons production in ultraperipheral collision

We study the double heavy baryon $Ξ_{QQ'}$ and tetraquark $T_{QQ}$ production through photon-photon and photon-gluon fusion via ultraperipheral collisions at the LHC and FCC within the framework of nonrelativistic QCD factorization formalism. Various ion-ion collisions are taken into account, two cc(bb)-diquark configurations ($[cc(bb),{^3S_1}\mbox{-}\bar{\bm{3}}]$ and $[cc(bb),{^1S_0}\mbox{-}\bm{6}]$) and four bc-diquark configurations ($[bc,{^3S_1}\mbox{-}\bar{\bm{3}}]$, $[bc,{^3S_1}\mbox{-}\bm{6}]$, $[bc,{^1S_0}\mbox{-}\bar{\bm{3}}]$ and $[bc,{^1S_0}\mbox{-}\bm{6}]$) are considered in the calculation. Numerical results indicate that the $[cc,{^3S_1}\mbox{-}\bar{\bm{3}}]$ diquark provides dominant contribution for $Ξ_{cc}$ ($T_{cc}$) production, and a considerable number of $Ξ_{cc}$ ($T_{cc}$) can be produced. Due to the event topologies for ultraperipheral collision are very clear, the background from various QCD interactions can be suppressed, hence the experimental investigation for $Ξ_{cc}$ and $T_{cc}$ are feasible. The productions for $Ξ_{bc/bb}$ are also discussed, leaving only slightly possibility for $Ξ_{bc}$ through photon-gluon fusion with ultraperipheral collisions at the FCC.

RASCBEC: RAman Spectroscopy Calculation via Born Effective Charge

We advance the algorithm for ab initio calculations of Raman spectra for large systems via applying external electric field, and complement it by a code implementation we name RASCBEC. With the RASCBEC code, we have successfully benchmark crystalline materials and compute Raman spectra of large molecules, and amorphous oxides. Our results demonstrate a remarkable level of agreement with the results from other commonly used codes as well as the experimental data. The electric field approach for Raman spectra calculation is designed to overcome the computational challenges associated with the conventional approach, which requires the calculation of the macroscopic dielectric tensor at numerous molecular geometries. The key innovation in our approach lies in obtaining the first-order derivatives with respect to the external electric field directly from VASP (the Vienna Ab Initio Simulation Package), as the Born Effective Charge (BEC). The RASCBEC code not only significantly reduces computational time, up to a factor of $N/8$, compared to the conventional approach, where $N$ is the total count of atoms within the simulation box. But also maintains the same level of accuracy, employing first-order numerical derivatives that avoid the numerical noise associated with algorithms requiring second-order derivatives, as seen in other electric field-based methods. This advantage makes RASCBEC particularly beneficial for large molecules and expansive amorphous systems.

Dynamic polarizabilities and triple magic trapping conditions for $5s^2~^1S_0\rightarrow 5s5p~^3P_{0,2}$ transitions of Cd atoms

The dynamic electric dipole polarizabilities of the $5s^2~^1S_0$, $5s5p~^3P_{0}$, and $5s5p~^3P_2$ states for Cd atoms are calculated using the relativistic configuration interaction plus many-body perturbation theory method. The magic wavelengths for the $5s^2~^1S_0\rightarrow 5s5p~^3P_{0}$ and $5s^2~^1S_0\rightarrow 5s5p~^3P_2$ transitions within a range of 300-500 nm are identified. The possibility of achieving triple magic trapping for the transitions $5s^2~^1S_0\rightarrow5s5p~^3P_{0}$ and $5s^2~^1S_0\rightarrow5s5p~^3P_2$ is investigated. It is found that no common magic wavelength could be identified for achieving triple magic trapping with the linearly polarized light. However, if the degree of ellipticity is between $0.358$ and $1$, the triple magic trapping can be achieved at 419.88 nm for the $5s^2 ~ ^1S_0\rightarrow 5s5p~^3P_2$ ($M_{i}=\pm2$) and $5s^2~^1S_0\rightarrow5s5p~^3P_{0}$ transitions.

The diabatic valence-hole concept

A global diabatization scheme, based on the ``valence-hole'' concept, has been previously applied to model webs of avoided-crosssings that exist in four electronic-state symmetry manifolds of C$_2$ ($^1Π_g$, $^3Π_g$, $^1Σ_u^+$, $^3Σ_u^+$). Here, this model is extended to the electronically excited states of four more molecules: CN ($^2Σ^+$), N$_2$ ($^3Π_u$), SiC ($^3Π$), and Si$_2$ ($^3Π_g$). Many strangenesses in the spectroscopic observations (e.g., energy level structure, predissociation linewidths, and radiative lifetimes) for all four electronic state systems discussed here are accounted for by this $unified$ model. The key concept of the model is valence-hole electron configurations: $3σ^24\sigma1π^45σ^2$ in CN, $2σ_g^22σ_u^11π_{u}^43σ_g^21π_{g}^1$ in N$_2$, $5σ^26\sigma7σ^22π^3$ in SiC, and $4σ_g^24σ_u^15σ_g^22π_{u}^3$ in Si$_2$. These valence-hole configurations have a nominal bond order of three or higher, and correlate with high-energy separated-atom limits with an np$\leftarrow$ns (n=2,3) promotion in $one$ of the atomic constituents. This promotion results in a triply-occupied ``valence-core" (i.e., $2σ_g^22σ_u^1$ or the equivalent). On its way to dissociation, the strongly-bound diabatic valence-hole state crosses multiple weakly-bound or repulsive states, which belong to electron configurations with a completely-filled valence-core. These curve-crossings between diabatic potentials result in a network of many avoided-crossings among multiple electronic states, analogous to the well-studied electronic structure landscape of ionic-covalent crossings in strongly ionic molecules. Considering the unique role of valence-hole states in shaping the global electronic structure, the valence-hole concept should be added to our intuitive framework of chemical bonding.

Recovering Sign Bits of DCT Coefficients in Digital Images as an Optimization Problem

Recovering unknown, missing, damaged, distorted, or lost information in DCT coefficients is a common task in multiple applications of digital image processing, including image compression, selective image encryption, and image communication. This paper investigates the recovery of sign bits in DCT coefficients of digital images, by proposing two different approximation methods to solve a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) problem, which is NP-hard in general. One method is a relaxation of the MILP problem to a linear programming (LP) problem, and the other splits the original MILP problem into some smaller MILP problems and an LP problem. We considered how the proposed methods can be applied to JPEG-encoded images and conducted extensive experiments to validate their performances. The experimental results showed that the proposed methods outperformed other existing methods by a substantial margin, both according to objective quality metrics and our subjective evaluation.

Thermal Energy of a Charm-meson Molecule in a Pion Gas

The thermal corrections to the propagator of a loosely bound charm-meson molecule in a pion gas are calculated to next-to-leading order in the heavy-meson expansion using a zero-range effective field theory. Ultraviolet divergences in the charm-meson-pair self energy are canceled by corrections to the charm-meson-pair contact vertex. Terms that are singular at the charm-meson-pair threshold can be absorbed into thermal corrections to the rest energies and kinetic masses of the charm-meson constituents. The remaining terms reduce to a thermal correction to the binding momentum that is proportional to the pion number density and suppressed by the pion/charm-meson mass ratio. The correction gives a tiny decrease in the binding energy of the charm-meson molecule relative to the charm-meson-pair threshold in the pion gas and a change in its thermal width that is small compared to the thermal widths of the charm-meson constituents. These results are encouraging for the prospects of observing $X(3872)$ and $T_{cc}^+(3875)$ in the expanding hadron gas produced by heavy-ion collisions.

Mid-infrared trace detection with parts-per-quadrillion quantitation accuracy: Expanding frontiers of radiocarbon sensing

Detection sensitivity is one of the most important attributes to consider during selection of spectroscopic techniques. However, high sensitivity alone is insufficient for spectroscopic measurements in spectrally congested regions. Two-color cavity ringdown spectroscopy (2C-CRDS), based on intra-cavity pump-probe detection, simultaneously achieves high detection sensitivity and selectivity. The technique enables mid-infrared detection of radiocarbon dioxide ($^{14}$CO$_2$) molecules in room-temperature CO$_2$ samples, with better than 10 parts-per-quadrillion (ppq, 10$^{15}$) quantitation accuracy (4 ppq on average). These $highly$-$reproducible$ measurements, which are the most $\it{sensitive}$ and $\it{quantitatively}$ $\it{accurate}$ in the mid-infrared, are accomplished despite the presence of $\it{orders}$-$\it{of}$-$\it{magnitude}$ stronger, one-photon signals from other CO$_2$ isotopologues. This is a major achievement in laser spectroscopy. A room-temperature-operated, compact, and low-cost 2C-CRDS sensor for $^{14}$CO$_2$ benefits a wide range of scientific fields that utilize $^{14}$C for dating and isotope tracing, most notably atmospheric $^{14}$CO$_2$ monitoring to track CO$_2$ emissions from fossil fuels. The 2C-CRDS technique significantly enhances the general utility of high-resolution mid-infrared detection for analytical measurements and fundamental chemical dynamics studies.

Deformations of modified $r$-matrices and cohomologies of related algebraic structures

Modified $r$-matrices are solutions of the modified classical Yang-Baxter equation, introduced by Semenov-Tian-Shansky, and play important roles in mathematical physics. In this paper, first we introduce a cohomology theory for modified $r$-matrices. Then we study three kinds of deformations of modified $r$-matrices using the established cohomology theory, including algebraic deformations, geometric deformations and linear deformations. We give the differential graded Lie algebra that governs algebraic deformations of modified $r$-matrices. For geometric deformations, we prove the rigidity theorem and study when is a neighborhood of a modified $r$-matrix smooth in the space of all modified $r$-matrix structures. In the study of trivial linear deformations, we introduce the notion of a Nijenhuis element for a modified $r$-matrix. Finally, applications are given to study deformations of complement of the diagonal Lie algebra and compatible Poisson structures.

Category Feature Transformer for Semantic Segmentation

Aggregation of multi-stage features has been revealed to play a significant role in semantic segmentation. Unlike previous methods employing point-wise summation or concatenation for feature aggregation, this study proposes the Category Feature Transformer (CFT) that explores the flow of category embedding and transformation among multi-stage features through the prevalent multi-head attention mechanism. CFT learns unified feature embeddings for individual semantic categories from high-level features during each aggregation process and dynamically broadcasts them to high-resolution features. Integrating the proposed CFT into a typical feature pyramid structure exhibits superior performance over a broad range of backbone networks. We conduct extensive experiments on popular semantic segmentation benchmarks. Specifically, the proposed CFT obtains a compelling 55.1% mIoU with greatly reduced model parameters and computations on the challenging ADE20K dataset.
