Generalized Floquet theory for open quantum systems

For a periodically driven open quantum system, the Floquet theorem states that the time evolution operator $Λ(t,0)$ of the system can be factorized as $Λ(t,0)=\mathcal{D}(t)e^{\mathcal{L}_{eff}t}$ with micro-motion operator $\mathcal{D}(t)$ possessing the same period as the external driving, and time-independent operator $\mathcal{L}_{eff}$. In this work, we extend this theorem to open systems that follow a modulated periodic evolution, in which the fast part is periodic while the slow part breaks the periodicity. We derive a factorization for the time evolution operator that separates the long time dynamics and the micro-motion for the open quantum system. High-frequency expansions for the effective evolution operator control the long time dynamics, and the micro-motion operator is also given and discussed. It may find applications in quantum engineering with open systems following modulated periodic evolution.

What do we know about cosmography

In the present paper, we investigate the cosmographic problem using the bias-variance trade-off. We find that both the z-redshift and the $y=z/(1+z)$-redshift can present a small bias estimation. It means that the cosmography can describe the supernova data more accurately. Minimizing risk, it suggests that cosmography up to the second order is the best approximation. Forecasting the constraint from future measurements, we find that future supernova and redshift drift can significantly improve the constraint, thus having the potential to solve the cosmographic problem. We also exploit the values of cosmography on the deceleration parameter and equation of state of dark energy $w(z)$. We find that supernova cosmography cannot give stable estimations on them. However, much useful information was obtained, such as that the cosmography favors a complicated dark energy with varying $w(z)$, and the derivative $dw/dz<0$ for low redshift. The cosmography is helpful to model the dark energy.

The effects of oxygen in spinel oxide Li1+xTi2-xO4-delta thin films

The evolution from superconducting LiTi2O4-delta to insulating Li4Ti5O12 thin films has been studied by precisely adjusting the oxygen pressure during the sample fabrication process. In the superconducting LiTi2O4-delta films, with the increase of oxygen pressure, the oxygen vacancies are filled, and the c-axis lattice constant decreases gradually. With the increase of the oxygen pressure to a certain critical value, the c-axis lattice constant becomes stable, which implies that the Li4Ti5O12 phase comes into being. The process of oxygen filling is manifested by the angular bright-field images of the scanning transmission electron microscopy techniques. The temperature of magnetoresistance changed from positive and negative shows a non-monotonous behavior with the increase of oxygen pressure. The theoretical explanation of the oxygen effects on the structure and superconductivity of LiTi2O4-delta has also been discussed in this work.

The linear and nonlinear Jaynes-Cummings model for the multiphoton transition

With the Jaynes-Cummings model, we have studied the atom and light field quantum entanglement of multiphoton transition, and researched the effect of initial state superposition coefficient $C_{1}$, the transition photon number $N$, the quantum discord $δ$ and the nonlinear coefficient $χ$ on the quantum entanglement degrees. We have given the quantum entanglement degrees curves with time evolution, and obtained some results, which should have been used in quantum computing and quantum information.

Electron Track Reconstruction and Improved Modulation for Photoelectric X-ray Polarimetry

The key to photoelectric X-ray polarimetry is the determination of the emission direction of photoelectrons. Because of the low mass of an electron, the ionisation trajectory is not straight and the useful information needed for polarimetry is stored mostly in the initial part of the track where less energy is deposited. We present a new algorithm, based on the shortest path problem in graph theory, to reconstruct the 2D electron track from the measured image that is blurred due to transversal diffusion along drift and multiplication in the gas chamber. Compared with previous methods based on moment analysis, this algorithm allows us to identify the photoelectric interaction point more accurately and precisely for complicated tracks resulting from high energy photons or low pressure chambers. This leads to a better position resolution and a higher degree of modulation toward high energy X-rays. The new algorithm is justified using simulations and measurements with the gas pixel detector (GPD), and it should also work for other polarimetric techniques such as a time projection chamber (TPC). As the improvement is restricted in the high energy band, this new algorithm shows limited improvement for the sensitivity of GPD polarimeters, but it may have a larger potential for low-pressure TPC polarimeters.

Quantum dot self-assembly driven by a surfactant-induced morphological instability

In strained heteroepitaxy, two-dimensional (2D) layers can exhibit a critical thickness at which three-dimensional (3D) islands self-assemble, relieving misfit strain at the cost of an increased surface area. Here we show that such a morphological phase transition can be induced on-demand using surfactants. We explore Bi as a surfactant in the growth of InAs on GaAs(110), and find that the presence of surface Bi induces Stranski-Krastanov growth of 3D islands, while growth without Bi always favors 2D layer formation. Exposing a static two monolayer thick InAs layer to Bi rapidly transforms the layer into 3D islands. Density functional theory calculations reveal that Bi reduces the energetic cost of 3D island formation by modifying surface energies. These 3D nanostructures behave as optically active quantum dots. This work illustrates how surfactants can enable quantum dot self-assembly where it otherwise would not occur.

The first result on 76Ge neutrinoless double beta decay from CDEX-1 experiment

We report the first result on Ge-76 neutrinoless double beta decay from CDEX-1 experiment at China Jinping Underground Laboratory. A mass of 994 g p-type point-contact high purity germanium detector has been installed to search the neutrinoless double beta decay events, as well as to directly detect dark matter particles. An exposure of 304 kg*day has been analyzed. The wideband spectrum from 500 keV to 3 MeV was obtained and the average event rate at the 2.039 MeV energy range is about 0.012 count per keV per kg per day. The half-life of Ge-76 neutrinoless double beta decay has been derived based on this result as: T 1/2 > 6.4*10^22 yr (90% C.L.). An upper limit on the effective Majorana-neutrino mass of 5.0 eV has been achieved. The possible methods to further decrease the background level have been discussed and will be pursued in the next stage of CDEX experiment.

A new varied-time photonic crystals

In this paper, we have firstly proposed a new one-dimensional varied-time photonic crystals, i.e., the refractive indices of media $A$ and $B$ are the time functions. We consider the varied-time photonic crystals of refractive indices period variation and calculate the transmissivity and electronic field distribution with and without defect layer, which are different from the conventional photonic crystals, which transmissivity and electronic field distribution are static, but the varied-time photonic crystals transmissivity and electronic field distribution are dynamic. We have obtained some new results for the varied-time photonic crystals, which should be help to design new type dynamic optical devices, such as the accurate optical switch and so on.

Anisotropic electron-phonon coupling in the spinel oxide superconductor

Among hundreds of spinel oxides, LiTi2O4 (LTO) is the only one that exhibits superconductivity (Tc ~13 K). Although the general electron-phonon coupling is still the main mechanism for electron pairing in LTO, unconventional behaviors such as the anomalous magnetoresistance, anisotropic orbital/spin susceptibilities, etc. reveal that both the spin and the orbital interactions should also be considered for understanding the superconductivity. Here, we investigate tunneling spectra of [111]-, [110]- and [001]-oriented high quality LTO thin films. Several bosonic modes in tunneling spectra are observed in the [111]- and [110]-oriented films but not in [001]-oriented ones, and these modes still exist at T = 2Tc and beyond the upper critical field, which are confirmed as stemming from electron-phonon interaction by DFT calculations. These modes only appear in special surface orientations, indicating that the electron-phonon coupling in LTO system is highly anisotropic and may be enhanced by orbital-related state. The anisotropic electron-phonon coupling should be taken seriously in understanding the nature of LTO superconductivity.

A possible interpretation of the Higgs mass by the cosmological attractive relaxion

Recently, a novel idea has been proposed to relax the electroweak hierarchy problem through the cosmological inflation and the axion periodic potential. Here, we further assume that only the attractive inflation is needed to explain the light mass of the Higgs boson, where we do not need a specified periodic potential of the axion field. Attractive inflation during the early universe drives the Higgs boson mass from the large value in the early universe to the small value at present, where the Higgs mass is an evolving parameter of the Universe. Thus, the small Higgs mass can technically originate from the cosmological evolution rather than dynamical symmetry or anthropics. Further, we study the possible collider signals or constraints at future lepton collier and the possible constraints from the muon anomalous magnetic moment. A concrete attractive relaxion model is also discussed, which is consistent with the data of Planck 2015.

Semileptonic decays of $B_c$ meson to S-wave charmonium states in the perturbative QCD approach

Inspired by the recent measurement of the ratio of $B_c$ branching fractions to $J/ψπ^+$ and $J/ψμ^+ν_μ$ final states at the LHCb detector, we study the semileptonic decays of $B_c$ meson to the S-wave ground and radially excited 2S and 3S charmonium states with the perturbative QCD approach. After evaluating the form factors for the transitions $B_c\rightarrow P,V$, where $P$ and $V$ denote pseudoscalar and vector S-wave charmonia, respectively, we calculate the branching ratios for all these semileptonic decays. The theoretical uncertainty of hadronic input parameters are reduced by utilizing the light-cone wave function for $B_c$ meson. It is found that the predicted branching ratios range from $10^{-6}$ up to $10^{-2}$ and could be measured by the future LHCb experiment. Our prediction for the ratio of branching fractions $\frac{\mathcal {BR}(B_c^+\rightarrow J/Ψπ^+)}{\mathcal {BR}(B_c^+\rightarrow J/Ψμ^+ν_μ)}$ is in good agreement with the data. For $B_c\rightarrow V l ν_l$ decays, the relative contributions of the longitudinal and transverse polarization are discussed in different momentum transfer squared regions. These predictions will be tested on the ongoing and forthcoming experiments.

Crystallographic dependent transport properties and oxygen issue in superconducting LiTi2O4 thin films

A systematic study is performed on the spinel oxide, i.e. LiTi2O4 thin films oriented along [111]-, [110]-, and [001]-directions, to reveal the crystallographic dependence of transport properties. With decreasing temperature, the LiTi2O4 displays roughly identical onset temperatures of twofold symmetry of in-plane angular dependent magnetoresistivity (AMR) (at ~ 100 K), crossover from negative- to positive- magnetoresistance (at ~ 50 K), and coherence length in the superconducting state. While, the twofold symmetry in AMR itself suggests anisotropic electron scattering. The superconducting transition temperature (Tc) seems insensitive to the lattice parameter. Moreover, the spherical aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (Cs-STEM) discloses that oxygen vacancies exist in the LiTi2O4 films. These oxygen vacancies cause the change of lattice but show little influence on superconductivity, differing from high-Tc cuprates where subtle variation of oxygen way lead to a significant change in superconductivity.

Entanglement dynamics of electrons and photons

Entanglement is a fundamental feature of quantum theory as well as a key resource for quantum computing and quantum communication, but the entanglement mechanism has not been found at present. We think when the two subsystems exist interaction directly or indirectly, they can be in entanglement state. such as, in the Jaynes-Cummings model, the entanglement between an atom and light field comes from their interaction. In this paper, we have studied the entanglement mechanism of electron-electron and photon-photon, which are from the spin-spin interaction. We found their total entanglement states are relevant both space state and spin state. When two electrons or two photons are far away, their entanglement states should be disappeared even if their spin state is entangled.

Study on flexible and organizable time-resolved measurement system and technology for multi-pulsed electron beam parameter

The proof test and debugging of the multi-pulsed electron accelerator, Dragon-2,requires a thorough comprehension of the quality of the beams. This puts forward a rigid requirement on the measurement system that it should have the ability that not only differentiates the three pulses on the whole but also tells the details of each pulse. In the measurements, beam energy is converted by a target to the Optical Transition Radiation (OTR) light, the information carried by which provides a good approach to measure beam profile and divergence simultaneously. Combining with this characteristic of OTR light, the concept of dual-imaging method is adopted in the design of optical imaging system. To avoid interference of the system optical parameters with one another, the original system is separated into two parts by functions, one for beam profile measurements and the other for divergence measurements. Correspondingly a splitter is interposed immediately after the OTR target which splits the light into two parts in perpendicular directions, one part forming a beam spot, and the remaining becoming polarized through a polarizer and imaged by an OTR lens and forming a beam divergence pattern. Again the use of splitters helps the light beam enter different framing camera for different use. With a time resolution of 2ns, the system can provide 8 frames of beam details within any one of the three pulses,at the same time as acquiring the quality of the three pulses on the whole.

A Two-Grid Finite Element Approximation for A Nonlinear Time-Fractional Cable Equation

In this article, a nonlinear fractional Cable equation is solved by a two-grid algorithm combined with finite element (FE) method. A temporal second-order fully discrete two-grid FE scheme, in which the spatial direction is approximated by two-grid FE method and the integer and fractional derivatives in time are discretized by second-order two-step backward difference method and second-order weighted and shifted Grünwald difference (WSGD) scheme, is presented to solve nonlinear fractional Cable equation. The studied algorithm in this paper mainly covers two steps: First, the numerical solution of nonlinear FE scheme on the coarse grid is solved, Second, based on the solution of initial iteration on the coarse grid, the linearized FE system on the fine grid is solved by using Newton iteration. Here, the stability based on fully discrete two-grid method is derived. Moreover, the a priori estimates with second-order convergence rate in time is proved in detail, which is higher than the L1-approximation result with $O(τ^{2-α}+τ^{2-β})$. Finally, the numerical results by using the two-grid method and FE method are calculated, respectively, and the CPU-time is compared to verify our theoretical results.

Cosmic Reionization Study : Principle Component Analysis After Planck

The study of reionization history plays an important role in understanding the evolution of our universe. It is commonly believed that the intergalactic medium (IGM) in our universe are fully ionized today, however the reionizing process remains to be mysterious. A simple instantaneous reionization process is usually adopted in modern cosmology without direct observational evidence. However, the history of ionization fraction, $x_e(z)$ will influence cosmic microwave background (CMB) observables and constraints on optical depth $τ$. With the mocked future data sets based on featured reionization model, we find the bias on $τ$ introduced by instantaneous model can not be neglected. In this paper, we study the cosmic reionization history in a model independent way, the so called principle component analysis (PCA) method, and reconstruct $x_e (z)$ at different redshift $z$ with the data sets of Planck, WMAP 9 years temperature and polarization power spectra, combining with the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) from galaxy survey and type Ia supernovae (SN) Union 2.1 sample respectively. The results show that reconstructed $x_e(z)$ is consistent with instantaneous behavior, however, there exists slight deviation from this behavior at some epoch. With PCA method, after abandoning the noisy modes, we get stronger constraints, and the hints for featured $x_e(z)$ evolution could become a little more obvious.

Discrete Li-occupation versus pseudo-continuous Na-occupation and their relationship with structural change behaviors in Fe2(MoO4)3

The key factors governing the single-phase or multi-phase structural change behaviors during the intercalation/deintercalation of guest ions have not been well studied and understood yet. Through systematic studies of orthorhombic Fe2(MoO4)3 electrode, two distinct guest ion occupation paths, namely discrete one for Li and pseudo-continuous one for Na, as well as their relationship with single-phase and two-phase modes for Na1 and Li1, respectively during the intercalation/deintercalation process have been demonstrated. For the first time, the direct atomic-scale observation of biphasic domains (discrete occupation) in partially lithiated Fe2(MoO4)3 and the one by one Na occupation (pseudo-continuous occupation) at 8d sites in partially sodiated Fe2(MoO4)3 are obtained during the discharge processes of Li/Fe2(MoO4)3 and Na/Fe2(MoO4)3 cells respectively. Our combined experimental and theoretical studies bring the new insights for the research and development of intercalation compounds as electrode materials for secondary batteries.

Bounce Inflation Cosmology with Standard Model Higgs Boson

It is of great interest to connect cosmology in the early universe to the Standard Model of particle physics. In this paper, we try to construct a bounce inflation model with the standard model Higgs boson, where the one loop correction is taken into account in the effective potential of Higgs field. In this model, a Galileon term has been introduced to eliminate the ghost mode when bounce happens. Moreover, due to the fact that the Fermion loop correction can make part of the Higgs potential negative, one naturally obtains a large equation of state(EoS) parameter in the contracting phase, which can eliminate the anisotropy problem. After the bounce, the model can drive the universe into the standard higgs inflation phase, which can generate nearly scale-invariant power spectrum.
