Studies of the resonance components in the $B_s$ decays into charmonia plus kaon pair

In this work, the decays of $B_s$ mesons to a charmonium state and a $K^+K^-$ pair are carefully investigated in the perturbative QCD approach. Following the latest fit from the LHCb experiment, we restrict ourselves to the case where the produced $K^+K^-$ pair interact in isospin zero $S$, $P$, and $D$ wave resonances in the kinematically allowed mass window. Besides the dominant contributions of the $ϕ(1020)$ resonance in the $P$-wave and $f_2'(1525)$ in the $D$-wave, other resonant structures in the high mass region as well as the $S$-wave components are also included. The invariant mass spectra for most of the resonances in the $B_s\rightarrow J/ψK^+K^-$ decay are well reproduced. The obtained three-body decay branching ratios can reach the order of $10^{-4}$, which seem to be accessible in the near future experiments. The associated polarization fractions of those vector-vector and vector-tensor modes are also predicted, which are compared with the existing data from LHCb Collaboration.

The unified theory of shifted convolution quadrature for fractional calculus

The convolution quadrature theory is a systematic approach to analyse the approximation of the Riemann-Liouville fractional operator $I^α$ at node $x_{n}$. In this paper, we develop the shifted convolution quadrature ($SCQ$) theory which generalizes the theory of convolution quadrature by introducing a shifted parameter $θ$ to cover as many numerical schemes that approximate the operator $I^α$ with an integer convergence rate as possible. The constraint on the parameter $θ$ is discussed in detail and the phenomenon of superconvergence for some schemes is examined from a new perspective. For some technique purposes when analysing the stability or convergence estimates of a method applied to PDEs, we design some novel formulas with desired properties under the framework of the $SCQ$. Finally, we conduct some numerical tests with nonsmooth solutions to further confirm our theory.

A note on Dodgson's determinant condensation algorithm

Recently, the Dodgson's determinant condensation algorithm was revisited in many papers [College Math. Journal 42(1)(2011): 43--54, College Math. Journal 38(2)(2007): 85--95, Math Horizons 14(2)(2006): 12--15},etc.]. This method is attractive, but there also exist some shortcomings. In this paper, a symbolic algorithm and the corresponding problems are discussed to overcome these shortcomings. Numerical experiments show that this symbolic modified algorithm has highly sensitivity on initial configuration of the matrix in condensation process.

TGMFE Algorithm Combined with Some Time Second-Order Schemes for Nonlinear Fourth-Order Reaction Diffusion System

In this article, a two-grid mixed finite element (TGMFE) method with some second-order time discrete schemes is developed for numerically solving nonlinear fourth-order reaction diffusion equation. The two-grid MFE method is used to approximate spatial direction, and some second-order $θ$ schemes formulated at time $t_{k-θ}$ are considered to discretize the time direction. TGMFE method covers two main steps: a nonlinear MFE system based on the space coarse grid is solved by the iterative algorithm and a coarse solution is arrived at, then a linearized MFE system with fine grid is considered and a TGMFE solution is obtained. Here, the stability and a priori error estimates in $L^2$-norm for both nonlinear Galerkin MFE system and TGMFE scheme are derived. Finally, some convergence results are computed for both nonlinear Galerkin MFE system and TGMFE scheme to verify our theoretical analysis, which show that the convergence rate of the time second-order $θ$ scheme including Crank-Nicolson scheme and second-order backward difference scheme is close to $2$, and that with the comparison to the computing time of nonlinear Galerkin MFE method, the CPU-time by using TGMFE method can be saved.

Two families of novel second-order fractional numerical formulas and their applications to fractional differential equations

In this article, we introduce two families of novel fractional $θ$-methods by constructing some new generating functions to discretize the Riemann-Liouville fractional calculus operator $\mathit{I}^α$ with a second order convergence rate. A new fractional BT-$θ$ method connects the fractional BDF2 (when $θ=0$) with fractional trapezoidal rule (when $θ=1/2$), and another novel fractional BN-$θ$ method joins the fractional BDF2 (when $θ=0$) with the second order fractional Newton-Gregory formula (when $θ=1/2$). To deal with the initial singularity, correction terms are added to achieve an optimal convergence order. In addition, stability regions of different $θ$-methods when applied to the Abel equations of the second kind are depicted, which demonstrate the fact that the fractional $θ$-methods are A($\vartheta$)-stable. Finally, numerical experiments are implemented to verify our theoretical result on the convergence analysis.

Dynamically switching the surface electronic and electrostatic properties of indium tin oxide electrodes with photochromic monolayers

The chemical modification of electrodes with organic materials is a common approach to tune the electronic and electrostatic landscape between interlayers in optoelectronic devices, thus facilitating charge injection at the electrode/semiconductor interfaces and improving their performance. The use of photochromic molecules for the surface modification allows dynamic control of the electronic and electrostatic properties of the electrode and thereby enables additional functionalities in such devices. Here, we show that the electronic properties of a transparent indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode are reversibly and dynamically modified by depositing organic photochromic switches (diarylethenes) in the form of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). By combining a range of surface characterization and density functional theory calculations, we present a detailed picture of the SAM binding onto ITO, the packing density of molecules, their orientation, as well as the work function modification of the ITO surface due to the SAM deposition. Upon illumination with ultraviolet and green light, we observe a reversible shift of the frontier occupied levels by 0.7 eV, and concomitantly a reversible work function change of ca. 60 meV. Our results prove the viability of dynamic switching of the electronic properties of the electrode with external light stimuli, which could be used to fabricate ITO-based photo-switchable optoelectronic devices.

Observational constraint on the dark energy scalar field

In the present paper, we investigate three scalar fields, \qu field, phantom field and tachyon field, to explore the source of dark energy, using the Gaussian processes method from the background data and perturbation growth rate data. The corresponding reconstructions all suggest that the dark energy should be dynamical. Moreover, the quintom field, a combination between \qu field and phantom field, is powerfully favored by the data within 68\% confidence level. Using the mean values of scalar field $ϕ$ and potential $V$, we fit the function $V(ϕ)$ in different fields. The fitted results imply that potential $V(ϕ)$ in each scalar field may be a double exponential function or Gaussian function. The Gaussian processes reconstructions also indicate that the tachyon scalar field cannot be convincingly favored by the data and is at a disadvantage to describe the dark energy.

The design of ultra-strong laser with one-dimensional function photonic crystal

With the optical kerr effect, the conventional photonic crystal can be turned into the function photonic crystal under the action of pump light. In the paper, we have designed the ultra-strong light source and laser with one-dimensional function photonic crystal. When the incident light is the ordinary light, the output is ultra-strong light source, and when the incident light is the low power laser, the output is ultra-strong laser, the maximum magnification can be reached $10^{80}$ and even more. Otherwise, we analyzed the effect of period number, medium refractive index and thickness, incident angle, the pump light irradiation way and pump light intensity on the magnification, these results shall help to optimal design ultra-strong light source and laser.

Probing signatures of bounce inflation with current observations

The aim of this paper is to probe the features of the bouncing cosmology with the current observational data. Basing on bounce inflation model, with high derivative term, we propose a general parametrization of primordial power spectrum which includes the typical bouncing parameters, such as bouncing time-scale, and energy scale. By applying Markov Chain Monto Carlo analysis with current data combination of Planck 2015, BAO and JLA, we report the posterior probability distributions of the parameters. We find that, bouncing models can well explain CMB observations, especially the deficit and oscillation on large scale in TT power spectrum.

Gaussian processes reconstruction of dark energy from observational data

In the present paper, we investigate the dark energy equation of state using the Gaussian processes analysis method, without confining a particular parametrization. The reconstruction is carried out by adopting the background data including supernova and Hubble parameter, and perturbation data from the growth rate. It suggests that the background and perturbation data both present a hint of dynamical dark energy. However, the perturbation data have a more promising potential to distinguish non-evolution dark energy including the cosmological constant model. We also test the influence of some parameters on the reconstruction. We find that the matter density parameter $Ω_{m0}$ has a slight effect on the background data reconstruction, but has a notable influence on the perturbation data reconstruction. While the Hubble constant presents a significant influence on the reconstruction from background data.

Fast algorithm based on TT-M FE system for space fractional Allen-Cahn equations with smooth and non-smooth solutions

In this article, a fast algorithm based on time two-mesh (TT-M) finite element (FE) scheme, which aims at solving nonlinear problems quickly, is considered to numerically solve the nonlinear space fractional Allen-Cahn equations with smooth and non-smooth solutions. The implicit second-order $θ$ scheme containing both implicit Crank-Nicolson scheme and second-order backward difference method is applied to time direction, a fast TT-M method is used to increase the speed of calculation, and the FE method is developed to approximate the spacial direction. The TT-M FE algorithm includes the following main computing steps: firstly, a nonlinear implicit second-order $θ$ FE scheme on the time coarse mesh $τ_c$ is solved by a nonlinear iterative method; secondly, based on the chosen initial iterative value, a linearized FE system on time fine mesh $τ<τ_c$ is solved, where some useful coarse numerical solutions are found by the Lagrange's interpolation formula. The analysis for both stability and a priori error estimates are made in detail. Finally, three numerical examples with smooth and non-smooth solutions are provided to illustrate the computational efficiency in solving nonlinear partial differential equations, from which it is easy to find that the computing time can be saved.

Leveraging Social Signal to Improve Item Recommendation for Matrix Factorization

Although Recommender Systems have been comprehensively studied in the past decade both in industry and academia, most of current recommender systems suffer from the following issues: 1) The data sparsity of the user-item matrix seriously affect the recommender system quality. As a result, most of traditional recommender system approaches are not able to deal with the users who have rated few items, which is known as cold start problem in recommender system. 2) Traditional recommender systems assume that users are independently and identically distributed and ignore the social relation between users. However, in real life scenario, due to the exponential growth of social networking service, such as facebook and Twitter, social connections between different users play an significant role for recommender system task. In this work, aiming at providing a better recommender systems by incorporating user social network information, we propose a matrix factorization framework with user social connection constraints. Experimental results on the real-life dataset shows that the proposed method performs significantly better than the state-of-the-art approaches in terms of MAE and RMSE, especially for the cold start users.

Tibet$^\prime$s Window on Primordial Gravitational Waves

As an essential part of China’s Gravitational Waves Program, the Ali CMB Polarization Telescope (AliCPT) is a ground-based experiment aiming at the Primordial Gravitational Waves (PGWs) by measuring B-mode polarization of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). First proposed in 2014 and currently in fast construction phase, AliCPT is China’s first CMB project that plans for commissioning in 2019. Led by the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the project is a worldwide collaboration of more than fifteen universities and research institutes. Ali CMB Project is briefly introduced.

Probing Primordial Gravitational Waves: Ali CMB Polarization Telescope

In this paper, we will give a general introduction to the project of Ali CMB Polarization Telescope (AliCPT), which is a Sino-US joint project led by the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) and has involved many different institutes in China. It is the first ground-based Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) polarization experiment in China and an integral part of China's Gravitational Waves Program. The main scientific goal of AliCPT project is to probe the primordial gravitational waves (PGWs) originated from the very early Universe. The AliCPT project includes two stages. The first stage referred to as AliCPT-1, is to build a telescope in the Ali region of Tibet with an altitude of 5,250 meters. Once completed, it will be the worldwide highest ground-based CMB observatory and open a new window for probing PGWs in northern hemisphere. AliCPT-1 telescope is designed to have about 7,000 TES detectors at 90GHz and 150GHz. The second stage is to have a more sensitive telescope (AliCPT-2) with the number of detectors more than 20,000. Our simulations show that AliCPT will improve the current constraint on the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$ by one order of magnitude with 3 years' observation. Besides the PGWs, the AliCPT will also enable a precise measurement on the CMB rotation angle and provide a precise test on the CPT symmetry. We show 3 years' observation will improve the current limit by two order of magnitude.

Tibet's Ali: A New Window to Detect the CMB Polarization

The Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) Polarization plays an important role in current cosmological studies. CMB B-mode polarization is the most effective probe to primordial gravitational waves (PGWs) and a test of the inflation as well as other theories of the early universe such as bouncing and cyclic universe. So far, major ground-based CMB polarization experiments are located in the southern hemisphere.Recently, China has launched the Ali CMB Polarization Telescope (AliCPT) in Tibetan Plateau to measure CMB B mode polarization and detect the PGWs in northern hemisphere. AliCPT include two stages, the first one is to build a telescope at the 5250m site (AliCPT-1) and the second one is to have a more sensitive telescope at a higher altitude of about 6000m (AliCPT-2). In this paper, we report the atmospherical conditions, sky coverage and the current infrastructure associated with AliCPT. We analyzed the reanalysis data from MERRA-2 together with radiosonde data from the Ali Meteorological Service and found that the amount of water vapor has a heavy seasonal variation and October to March is the suitable observation time. We also found 95/150 GHz to be feasible for AliCPT-1 and higher frequencies to be possible for AliCPT-2. Then we analyzed the observable sky and the target fields, and showed that Ali provides us a unique opportunity to observe CMB with less foreground contamination in the northern hemisphere and is complementary to the existed southern CMB experiments. Together with the developed infrastructure, we point out that Ali opens a new window for CMB observation and will be one of the major sites in the world along with Antarctic and Atacama.

Shortcuts to adiabaticity in non-Hermitian quantum systems without rotating-wave approximation

The technique of shortcuts to adiabaticity (STA) has attracted broad attention due to their possible applications in quantum information processing and quantum control. However, most studies published so far have been only focused on Hermitian systems under the rotating-wave approximation (RWA). In this paper, we propose a modified STA technique to realize population transfer for a non-Hermitian system without RWA. We work out an exact expression for the control function and present examples consisting of two- and three-level systems with decay to show the theory. The results suggest that the STA technique presented here is robust for fast passages. We also find that the decay has small effect on the population transfer in the three-level system. To shed more light on the physics behind this result, we reduce the quantum three-level system to an effective two-level one with large detunings. The STA technique of effective two-level system is studied. Thereby the high-fidelity population transfer can be implemented in non-Hermitian systems by our method, and it works even without RWA.

Resistive MHD Modelling of Quasi-Single Helicity State in the KTX Regimes

The potential formation of the quasi-single-helicity (QSH) state in the Keda Torus eXperiment (KTX) is investigated in resistive MHD simulations using the NIMROD code. We focus on the effects of finite resistivity on the mode structure and characteristics of the dominant linear and nonlinear resistive tearing-mode in a finite $β$, cylindrical configuration of reversed field pinch model for KTX. In the typical resistive regimes of KTX where Lundquist number $S=5 \times 10^4$, the plasma transitions to a steady QSH state after evolving through an initial transient phase with multiple helicities. The dominant mode of the QSH state develops from the dominant linear tearing mode instability. In lower $β$ regime, the QSH state are intermittent and short in duration; in higher $β$ regime, the QSH state persists for a longer time and should be more observable in experiment.
