DSmT: A new paradigm shift for information fusion

The management and combination of uncertain, imprecise, fuzzy and even paradoxical or high conflicting sources of information has always been and still remains of primal importance for the development of reliable information fusion systems. In this short survey paper, we present the theory of plausible and paradoxical reasoning, known as DSmT (Dezert-Smarandache Theory) in literature, developed for dealing with imprecise, uncertain and potentially highly conflicting sources of information. DSmT is a new paradigm shift for information fusion and recent publications have shown the interest and the potential ability of DSmT to solve fusion problems where Dempster's rule used in Dempster-Shafer Theory (DST) provides counter-intuitive results or fails to provide useful result at all. This paper is focused on the foundations of DSmT and on its main rules of combination (classic, hybrid and Proportional Conflict Redistribution rules). Shafer's model on which is based DST appears as a particular and specific case of DSm hybrid model which can be easily handled by DSmT as well. Several simple but illustrative examples are given throughout this paper to show the interest and the generality of this new theory.

A Method to Solve the Diophantine Equation $ax^2-by^2+c=0$

It is a generalization of Pell's equation $x^2-Dy^2=0$. Here, we show that: if our Diophantine equation has a particular integer solution and $ab$ is not a perfect square, then the equation has an infinite number of solutions; in this case we find a close expression for $(x_n,y_n)$, the general positive integer solution, by an original method. More, we generalize it for any Diophantine equation of second degree and with two unknowns $f(x,y)=0$.

Unfolding the Labyrinth: Open Problems in Mathematics, Physics, Astrophysics, and Other Areas of Science

Throughout this book, we discuss some open problems in various branches of science, including mathematics, theoretical physics, astro-physics, geophysics etc. It is of our hope that some of the problems discussed in this book will find their place either in theoretical exploration or further experiments, while some parts of these problems may be found useful for scholarly stimulation. The present book is also intended for young physics and mathematics fellows who will perhaps find the unsolved problems described here are at least worth pondering. If this book provides only a few highlights of plau-sible solutions, it is merely to keep the fun of readers in discovering the answers by themselves.

Fuzzy Interval Matrices, Neutrosophic Interval Matrices and their Applications

The new concept of fuzzy interval matrices has been introduced in this book for the first time. The authors have not only introduced the notion of fuzzy interval matrices, interval neutrosophic matrices and fuzzy neutrosophic interval matrices but have also demonstrated some of its applications when the data under study is an unsupervised one and when several experts analyze the problem. Further, the authors have introduced in this book multiexpert models using these three new types of interval matrices. The new multi expert models dealt in this book are FCIMs, FRIMs, FCInMs, FRInMs, IBAMs, IBBAMs, nIBAMs, FAIMs, FAnIMS, etc. Illustrative examples are given so that the reader can follow these concepts easily. This book has three chapters. The first chapter is introductory in nature and makes the book a self-contained one. Chapter two introduces the concept of fuzzy interval matrices. Also the notion of fuzzy interval matrices, neutrosophic interval matrices and fuzzy neutrosophic interval matrices, can find applications to Markov chains and Leontief economic models. Chapter three gives the application of fuzzy interval matrices and neutrosophic interval matrices to real-world problems by constructing the models already mentioned. Further these models are mainly useful when the data is an unsupervised one and when one needs a multi-expert model. The new concept of fuzzy interval matrices and neutrosophic interval matrices will find their applications in engineering, medical, industrial, social and psychological problems. We have given a long list of references to help the interested reader.

An Introduction to the DSm Theory for the Combination of Paradoxical, Uncertain, and Imprecise Sources of Information

The management and combination of uncertain, imprecise, fuzzy and even paradoxical or high conflicting sources of information has always been, and still remains today, of primal importance for the development of reliable modern information systems involving artificial reasoning. In this introduction, we present a survey of our recent theory of plausible and paradoxical reasoning, known as Dezert-Smarandache Theory (DSmT) in the literature, developed for dealing with imprecise, uncertain and paradoxical sources of information. We focus our presentation here rather on the foundations of DSmT, and on the two important new rules of combination, than on browsing specific applications of DSmT available in literature. Several simple examples are given throughout the presentation to show the efficiency and the generality of this new approach.

Target Type Tracking with PCR5 and Dempster's rules: A Comparative Analysis

In this paper we consider and analyze the behavior of two combinational rules for temporal (sequential) attribute data fusion for target type estimation. Our comparative analysis is based on Dempster's fusion rule proposed in Dempster-Shafer Theory (DST) and on the Proportional Conflict Redistribution rule no. 5 (PCR5) recently proposed in Dezert-Smarandache Theory (DSmT). We show through very simple scenario and Monte-Carlo simulation, how PCR5 allows a very efficient Target Type Tracking and reduces drastically the latency delay for correct Target Type decision with respect to Demspter's rule. For cases presenting some short Target Type switches, Demspter's rule is proved to be unable to detect the switches and thus to track correctly the Target Type changes. The approach proposed here is totally new, efficient and promising to be incorporated in real-time Generalized Data Association - Multi Target Tracking systems (GDA-MTT) and provides an important result on the behavior of PCR5 with respect to Dempster's rule. Neutrosophic Rings

This book has four chapters. Chapter one is introductory in nature, for it recalls some basic definitions essential to make the book a self-contained one. Chapter two, introduces for the first time the new notion of neutrosophic rings and some special neutrosophic rings like neutrosophic ring of matrix and neutrosophic polynomial rings. Chapter three gives some new classes of neutrosophic rings like group neutrosophic rings, neutrosophic group neutrosophic rings, semigroup neutrosophic rings, S-semigroup neutrosophic rings which can be realized as a type of extension of group rings or generalization of group rings. Study of these structures will throw light on the research on the algebraic structure of group rings. Chapter four is entirely devoted to the problems on this new topic, which is an added attraction to researchers. A salient feature of this book is that it gives 246 problems in Chapter four. Some of the problems are direct and simple, some little difficult and some can be taken up as a research problem.

Some Neutrosophic Algebraic Structures and Neutrosophic N-Algebraic Structures

In this book, for the first time we introduce the notion of neutrosophic algebraic structures for groups, loops, semigroups and groupoids; and also their neutrosophic N-algebraic structures. One is fully aware of the fact that many classical theorems like Lagrange, Sylow and Cauchy have been studied only in the context of finite groups. Here we try to shift the paradigm by studying and introducing these theorems to neutrosophic semigroups, neutrosophic groupoids, and neutrosophic loops. This book has seven chapters. Chapter one provides several basic notions to make this book self-contained. Chapter two introduces neutrosophic groups and neutrosophic N-groups and gives several examples. The third chapter deals with neutrosophic semigroups and neutrosophic N-semigroups, giving several interesting results. Chapter four introduces neutrosophic loops and neutrosophic N-loops. We introduce several new, related definitions. In fact we construct a new class of neutrosophic loops using modulo integer Z_n, n > 3, where n is odd. Several properties of these structures are proved using number theoretic techniques. Chapter five just introduces the concept of neutrosophic groupoids and neutrosophic N-groupoids. Sixth chapter innovatively gives mixed neutrosophic structures and their duals. The final chapter gives problems for the interested reader to solve.

N-Algebraic Structures and S-N-Algebraic Structures

For the first time, we have introduced the concept of N-groups, N-semigroups, N-loops, and N-groupoids. We also define a mixed N-algebraic structure. The main aim of this book is to attract young mathematicians to this interesting field. It contains more than 200 new definitions. These concepts find applications in fields like finite automaton, coloring problems and coding theory.

Processing Uncertainty and Indeterminacy in Information Systems success mapping

IS success is a complex concept, and its evaluation is complicated, unstructured and not readily quantifiable. Numerous scientific publications address the issue of success in the IS field as well as in other fields. But, little efforts have been done for processing indeterminacy and uncertainty in success research. This paper shows a formal method for mapping success using Neutrosophic Success Map. This is an emerging tool for processing indeterminacy and uncertainty in success research. EIS success have been analyzed using this tool.

Fuzzy and Neutrosophic Analysis of Periyar's views on Untouchability

This book is organized into four chapters. In Chapter One we just introduce the basic Fuzzy and Neutrosophic tools used in the analysis of the social evil of Untouchability. Since the notion of caste is based on themind, it is appropriate to use Fuzzy and Neutrosophic theory. In Chapter Two we use the opinion of several experts to analyze the various aspects of untouchability. Here, we use the tools that have been described in Chapter One. Fuzzy Directed Graphs and Neutrosophic Directed Graphs of these Fuzzy and Neutrosophic models happen to be very dense. We have represented 16 such graphs in this book. In Chapter Three we give a brief introduction about the life and struggle of Periyar. The fourth and concluding chapter gives observations drawn from our mathematical results based on the Fuzzy and Neutrosophic analysis.

Applications of Bimatrices to some Fuzzy and Neutrosophic Models

This book, in order to generalize the two models of fuzzy cognitive maps and neutrosophic cognitive maps, has systematically invented mathematical tools like bimatrices, trimatrices, n-matrices, bigraphs, trigraphs and n-graphs and describe some of its properties. These concepts are also extended neutrosophically in this book. Using these new tools we define fuzzy cognitive bimaps, fuzzy cognitive trimaps, fuzzy relational bimaps and fuzzy relational trimaps which exploit the new notions of bimatrices, bigraphs, trimatrices and trigraphs. It is worth mentioning that these can be extended to n-array models as a simple exercise. The main advantage of these models are: 1. Comparative study of the views stage-by-stage is possible. 2. Several experts opinion can be compared not only at each stage but also the final result can easily be compared. 3. Saves time and economy. This book is organized into four chapters. The first chapter recalls the basic concepts of bimatrices and neutrosophic bimatrices. Second chapter introduces several new notions of graphs like bigraphs, trigraphs and their properties. Chapter three illustrates how these new tools are used in the construction of fuzzy cognitive bimaps, trimaps and n-maps and fuzzy relational bimaps, trimaps and n-maps. The neutrosophic analogues of chapter 3 is carried out in the fourth chapter. In this book, we have given nearly 95 examples to make the reader easily follow the definitions. We have also provided 125 figures for help in easily understanding the definition and examples. We have also given 25 real world problems as applications of Bimatrices to Fuzzy and Neutrosophic models.

Introduction to Linear Bialgebra

The algebraic structure, linear algebra happens to be one of the subjects which yields itself to applications to several fields like coding or communication theory, Markov chains, representation of groups and graphs, Leontief economic models and so on. This book has for the first time, introduced a new algebraic structure called linear bialgebra, which is also a very powerful algebraic tool that can yield itself to applications. With the recent introduction of bimatrices (2005)we have ventured in this book to introduce new concepts like linear bialgebra and Smarandache neutrosophic linear bialgebra and also give the applications of these algebraic structures. It is important to mention here it is a matter of simple exercise to extend these to linear n-algebra for any n greater than 2; for n = 2 we get the linear bialgebra. This book has five chapters. In the first chapter we just introduce some basic notions of linear algebra and Slinear algebra and their applications. Chapter two introduces some new algebraic bistructures. In chapter three we introduce the notion of linear bialgebra and discuss several interesting properties about them. Also, application of linear bialgebra to bicodes is given. A remarkable part of our research in this book is the introduction of the notion of birepresentation of bigroups. The fourth chapter introduces several neutrosophic algebraic structures since they help in defining the new concept of neutrosophic linear bialgebra, neutrosophic bivector spaces, Smarandache neutrosophic linear bialgebra and Smarandache neutrosophic bivector spaces. Theirprobable applications to real-world models are discussed.
