ClassWise-SAM-Adapter: Parameter Efficient Fine-tuning Adapts Segment Anything to SAR Domain for Semantic Segmentation

In the realm of artificial intelligence, the emergence of foundation models, backed by high computing capabilities and extensive data, has been revolutionary. Segment Anything Model (SAM), built on the Vision Transformer (ViT) model with millions of parameters and vast training dataset SA-1B, excels in various segmentation scenarios relying on its significance of semantic information and generalization ability. Such achievement of visual foundation model stimulates continuous researches on specific downstream tasks in computer vision. The ClassWise-SAM-Adapter (CWSAM) is designed to adapt the high-performing SAM for landcover classification on space-borne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) images. The proposed CWSAM freezes most of SAM's parameters and incorporates lightweight adapters for parameter efficient fine-tuning, and a classwise mask decoder is designed to achieve semantic segmentation task. This adapt-tuning method allows for efficient landcover classification of SAR images, balancing the accuracy with computational demand. In addition, the task specific input module injects low frequency information of SAR images by MLP-based layers to improve the model performance. Compared to conventional state-of-the-art semantic segmentation algorithms by extensive experiments, CWSAM showcases enhanced performance with fewer computing resources, highlighting the potential of leveraging foundational models like SAM for specific downstream tasks in the SAR domain. GaussianEditor: Swift and Controllable 3D Editing with Gaussian Splatting

3D editing plays a crucial role in many areas such as gaming and virtual reality. Traditional 3D editing methods, which rely on representations like meshes and point clouds, often fall short in realistically depicting complex scenes. On the other hand, methods based on implicit 3D representations, like Neural Radiance Field (NeRF), render complex scenes effectively but suffer from slow processing speeds and limited control over specific scene areas. In response to these challenges, our paper presents GaussianEditor, an innovative and efficient 3D editing algorithm based on Gaussian Splatting (GS), a novel 3D representation. GaussianEditor enhances precision and control in editing through our proposed Gaussian semantic tracing, which traces the editing target throughout the training process. Additionally, we propose Hierarchical Gaussian splatting (HGS) to achieve stabilized and fine results under stochastic generative guidance from 2D diffusion models. We also develop editing strategies for efficient object removal and integration, a challenging task for existing methods. Our comprehensive experiments demonstrate GaussianEditor's superior control, efficacy, and rapid performance, marking a significant advancement in 3D editing. Wigner Molecular Crystals from Multi-electron Moiré Artificial Atoms

Semiconductor moiré superlattices provide a versatile platform to engineer new quantum solids composed of artificial atoms on moiré sites. Previous studies have mostly focused on the simplest correlated quantum solid - the Fermi-Hubbard model - where intra-atom interactions are simplified to a single onsite repulsion energy U. These studies have revealed novel quantum phases ranging from Mott insulators to quantum anomalous Hall insulators at a filling of one electron per moiré unit cell. New types of quantum solids should arise at even higher filling factors where the multi-electron configuration of moiré artificial atoms provides new degrees of freedom. Here we report the experimental observation of Wigner molecular crystals emerging from multi-electron artificial atoms in twisted bilayer WS2 moiré superlattices. Moiré artificial atoms, unlike natural atoms, can host qualitatively different electron states due to the interplay between quantized energy levels and Coulomb interactions. Using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), we demonstrate that Wigner molecules appear in multi-electron artificial atoms when Coulomb interactions dominate. Three-electron Wigner molecules, for example, are seen to exhibit a characteristic trimer pattern. The array of Wigner molecules observed in a moiré superlattice comprises a new crystalline phase of electrons: the Wigner molecular crystal. We show that these Wigner molecular crystals are highly tunable through mechanical strain, moiré period, and carrier charge type. Our study presents new opportunities for exploring quantum phenomena in moiré quantum solids composed of multi-electron artificial atoms.

Low Resistance Ohmic Contact to P-type Monolayer WSe2

Advanced microelectronics in the future may require semiconducting channel materials beyond silicon. Two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors, characterized by their atomically thin thickness, hold immense promise for high-performance electronic devices at the nanometer scale with lower heat dissipation. One challenge for achieving high-performance 2D semiconductor field effect transistors (FET), especially for p-type materials, is the high electrical contact resistance present at the metal-semiconductor interface. In conventional bulk semiconductors, low resistance ohmic contact is realized through heavy substitutional doping with acceptor or donor impurities at the contact region. The strategy of substitutional doping, however, does not work for p-type 2D semiconductors such as monolayer tungsten diselenide (WSe$_2$).In this study, we developed highly efficient charge-transfer doping with WSe$_2$/$α$-RuCl$_3$ heterostructures to achieve low-resistance ohmic contact for p-type WSe$_2$ transistors. We show that a hole doping as high as 3$\times$10$^{13}$ cm$^{-2}$ can be achieved in the WSe$_2/α$-RuCl$_3$ heterostructure due to its type-III band alignment. It results in an Ohmic contact with resistance lower than 4 k Ohm $μ$m at the p-type monolayer WSe$_2$/metal junction. at room temperature. Using this low-resistance contact, we demonstrate high-performance p-type WSe$_2$ transistors with a saturation current of 35 $μ$A$\cdot$ $μ$m$^{-1}$ and an I$_{ON}$/I$_{OFF}$ ratio exceeding 10$^9$ It could enable future microelectronic devices based on 2D semiconductors and contribute to the extension of Moore's law.

Scientific Preparation for CSST: Classification of Galaxy and Nebula/Star Cluster Based on Deep Learning

The Chinese Space Station Telescope (abbreviated as CSST) is a future advanced space telescope. Real-time identification of galaxy and nebula/star cluster (abbreviated as NSC) images is of great value during CSST survey. While recent research on celestial object recognition has progressed, the rapid and efficient identification of high-resolution local celestial images remains challenging. In this study, we conducted galaxy and NSC image classification research using deep learning methods based on data from the Hubble Space Telescope. We built a Local Celestial Image Dataset and designed a deep learning model named HR-CelestialNet for classifying images of the galaxy and NSC. HR-CelestialNet achieved an accuracy of 89.09% on the testing set, outperforming models such as AlexNet, VGGNet and ResNet, while demonstrating faster recognition speeds. Furthermore, we investigated the factors influencing CSST image quality and evaluated the generalization ability of HR-CelestialNet on the blurry image dataset, demonstrating its robustness to low image quality. The proposed method can enable real-time identification of celestial images during CSST survey mission.

Electrically controlled interlayer trion fluid in electron-hole bilayers

The combination of repulsive and attractive Coulomb interactions in a quantum electron(e)-hole(h) fluid can give rise to novel correlated phases of multiparticle charge complexes such as excitons, trions and biexcitons. Here we report the first experimental realization of an electrically controlled interlayer trion fluid in two-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures. We demonstrate that in the strong coupling regime of electron-hole bilayers, electrons and holes in separate layers can spontaneously form three-particle trion bound states that resemble positronium ions in high energy physics. The interlayer trions can assume 1e-2h and 2e-1h configurations, where electrons and holes are confined in different transition metal dichalcogenide layers. We show that the two correlated holes in 1e-2h trions form a spin-singlet state with a spin gap of ~1meV. By electrostatic gating, the equilibrium state of our system can be continuously tuned into an exciton fluid, a trion fluid, an exciton-trion mixture, a trion-charge mixture or an electron-hole plasma. Upon optical excitation, the system can host novel high-order multiparticle charge complexes including interlayer four-particle complex (tetrons) and five-particle complex (pentons). Our work demonstrates a unique platform to study novel correlated phases of tunable Bose-Fermi mixtures and opens up new opportunities to realize artificial ions/molecules in electronic devices.

PolarRec: Radio Interferometric Data Reconstruction with Polar Coordinate Representation

In radio astronomy, visibility data, which are measurements of wave signals from radio telescopes, are transformed into images for observation of distant celestial objects. However, these resultant images usually contain both real sources and artifacts, due to signal sparsity and other factors. One way to obtain cleaner images is to reconstruct samples into dense forms before imaging. Unfortunately, existing reconstruction methods often miss some components of visibility in frequency domain, so blurred object edges and persistent artifacts remain in the images. Furthermore, the computation overhead is high on irregular visibility samples due to the data skew. To address these problems, we propose PolarRec, a transformer-encoder-conditioned reconstruction pipeline with visibility samples converted into the polar coordinate representation. This representation matches the way in which radio telescopes observe a celestial area as the Earth rotates. As a result, visibility samples distribute in the polar system more uniformly than in the Cartesian space. Therefore, we propose to use radial distance in the loss function, to help reconstruct complete visibility effectively. Also, we group visibility samples by their polar angles and propose a group-based encoding scheme to improve the efficiency. Our experiments demonstrate that PolarRec markedly improves imaging results by faithfully reconstructing all frequency components in the visibility domain while significantly reducing the computation cost in visibility data encoding. We believe this high-quality and high-efficiency imaging of PolarRec will better facilitate astronomers to conduct their research.

Robust Network Slicing: Multi-Agent Policies, Adversarial Attacks, and Defensive Strategies

In this paper, we present a multi-agent deep reinforcement learning (deep RL) framework for network slicing in a dynamic environment with multiple base stations and multiple users. In particular, we propose a novel deep RL framework with multiple actors and centralized critic (MACC) in which actors are implemented as pointer networks to fit the varying dimension of input. We evaluate the performance of the proposed deep RL algorithm via simulations to demonstrate its effectiveness. Subsequently, we develop a deep RL based jammer with limited prior information and limited power budget. The goal of the jammer is to minimize the transmission rates achieved with network slicing and thus degrade the network slicing agents' performance. We design a jammer with both listening and jamming phases and address jamming location optimization as well as jamming channel optimization via deep RL. We evaluate the jammer at the optimized location, generating interference attacks in the optimized set of channels by switching between the jamming phase and listening phase. We show that the proposed jammer can significantly reduce the victims' performance without direct feedback or prior knowledge on the network slicing policies. Finally, we devise a Nash-equilibrium-supervised policy ensemble mixed strategy profile for network slicing (as a defensive measure) and jamming. We evaluate the performance of the proposed policy ensemble algorithm by applying on the network slicing agents and the jammer agent in simulations to show its effectiveness.

Echoes Beyond Points: Unleashing the Power of Raw Radar Data in Multi-modality Fusion

Radar is ubiquitous in autonomous driving systems due to its low cost and good adaptability to bad weather. Nevertheless, the radar detection performance is usually inferior because its point cloud is sparse and not accurate due to the poor azimuth and elevation resolution. Moreover, point cloud generation algorithms already drop weak signals to reduce the false targets which may be suboptimal for the use of deep fusion. In this paper, we propose a novel method named EchoFusion to skip the existing radar signal processing pipeline and then incorporate the radar raw data with other sensors. Specifically, we first generate the Bird's Eye View (BEV) queries and then take corresponding spectrum features from radar to fuse with other sensors. By this approach, our method could utilize both rich and lossless distance and speed clues from radar echoes and rich semantic clues from images, making our method surpass all existing methods on the RADIal dataset, and approach the performance of LiDAR. The code will be released on https://github.com/tusen-ai/EchoFusion.

Maximum Knowledge Orthogonality Reconstruction with Gradients in Federated Learning

Federated learning (FL) aims at keeping client data local to preserve privacy. Instead of gathering the data itself, the server only collects aggregated gradient updates from clients. Following the popularity of FL, there has been considerable amount of work, revealing the vulnerability of FL approaches by reconstructing the input data from gradient updates. Yet, most existing works assume an FL setting with unrealistically small batch size, and have poor image quality when the batch size is large. Other works modify the neural network architectures or parameters to the point of being suspicious, and thus, can be detected by clients. Moreover, most of them can only reconstruct one sample input from a large batch. To address these limitations, we propose a novel and completely analytical approach, referred to as the maximum knowledge orthogonality reconstruction (MKOR), to reconstruct clients' input data. Our proposed method reconstructs a mathematically proven high quality image from large batches. MKOR only requires the server to send secretly modified parameters to clients and can efficiently and inconspicuously reconstruct the input images from clients' gradient updates. We evaluate MKOR's performance on the MNIST, CIFAR-100, and ImageNet dataset and compare it with the state-of-the-art works. The results show that MKOR outperforms the existing approaches, and draws attention to a pressing need for further research on the privacy protection of FL so that comprehensive defense approaches can be developed.

Masked Space-Time Hash Encoding for Efficient Dynamic Scene Reconstruction

In this paper, we propose the Masked Space-Time Hash encoding (MSTH), a novel method for efficiently reconstructing dynamic 3D scenes from multi-view or monocular videos. Based on the observation that dynamic scenes often contain substantial static areas that result in redundancy in storage and computations, MSTH represents a dynamic scene as a weighted combination of a 3D hash encoding and a 4D hash encoding. The weights for the two components are represented by a learnable mask which is guided by an uncertainty-based objective to reflect the spatial and temporal importance of each 3D position. With this design, our method can reduce the hash collision rate by avoiding redundant queries and modifications on static areas, making it feasible to represent a large number of space-time voxels by hash tables with small size.Besides, without the requirements to fit the large numbers of temporally redundant features independently, our method is easier to optimize and converge rapidly with only twenty minutes of training for a 300-frame dynamic scene. As a result, MSTH obtains consistently better results than previous methods with only 20 minutes of training time and 130 MB of memory storage. Code is available at https://github.com/masked-spacetime-hashing/msth

Mixed Neural Voxels for Fast Multi-view Video Synthesis

Synthesizing high-fidelity videos from real-world multi-view input is challenging because of the complexities of real-world environments and highly dynamic motions. Previous works based on neural radiance fields have demonstrated high-quality reconstructions of dynamic scenes. However, training such models on real-world scenes is time-consuming, usually taking days or weeks. In this paper, we present a novel method named MixVoxels to better represent the dynamic scenes with fast training speed and competitive rendering qualities. The proposed MixVoxels represents the 4D dynamic scenes as a mixture of static and dynamic voxels and processes them with different networks. In this way, the computation of the required modalities for static voxels can be processed by a lightweight model, which essentially reduces the amount of computation, especially for many daily dynamic scenes dominated by the static background. To separate the two kinds of voxels, we propose a novel variation field to estimate the temporal variance of each voxel. For the dynamic voxels, we design an inner-product time query method to efficiently query multiple time steps, which is essential to recover the high-dynamic motions. As a result, with 15 minutes of training for dynamic scenes with inputs of 300-frame videos, MixVoxels achieves better PSNR than previous methods. Codes and trained models are available at https://github.com/fengres/mixvoxels

Atomic Insights into the Oxidative Degradation Mechanisms of Sulfide Solid Electrolytes

Electrochemical degradation of solid electrolytes is a major roadblock in the development of solid-state batteries, and the formed solid-solid interphase (SSI) plays a key role in the performance of solid-state batteries. In this study, by combining experimental X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) measurements, first-principles simulations, and unsupervised machine learning, we have unraveled the atomic-scale oxidative degradation mechanisms of sulfide electrolytes at the interface using the baseline Li3PS4 (LPS) electrolyte as a model system. The degradation begins with a decrease of Li neighbor affinity to S atoms upon initial delithiation, followed by the formation of S-S bonds as the PS4 tetrahedron deforms. After the first delithiation cycle, the PS4 motifs become strongly distorted and PS3 motifs start to form. Spectral fingerprints of the local structural evolution are identified, which correspond to the main peak broadening and the peak shifting to a higher energy by about 2.5 eV in P K-edge XAS and a new peak emerging at 2473 eV in S K-edge XAS during delithiation. The spectral fingerprints serve as a proxy for the electrochemical stability of phosphorus sulfide solid electrolytes beyond LPS, as demonstrated in argyrodite Li6PS5Cl. We observed that the strong distortion and destruction of PS4 tetrahedra and the formation of S-S bonds are correlated with an increased interfacial impedance. To the best of our knowledge, this study showcases the first atomic-scale insights into the oxidative degradation mechanism of the LPS electrolyte, which can provide guidance for controlling macroscopic reactions through microstructural engineering and, more generally, can advance the rational design of sulfide electrolytes.

Perfect Coulomb drag and exciton transport in an excitonic insulator

Strongly coupled two-dimensional electron-hole bilayers can give rise to novel quantum Bosonic states: electrons and holes in electrically isolated layers can pair into interlayer excitons, which can form a Bose-Einstein condensate below a critical temperature at zero magnetic field. This state is predicted to feature perfect Coulomb drag, where a current in one layer must be accompanied by an equal but opposite current in the other, and counterflow superconductivity, where the excitons form a superfluid with zero viscosity. Electron-hole bilayers in the strong coupling limit with an excitonic insulator ground state have been recently achieved in semiconducting transition metal dichalcogenide heterostructures, but direct electrical transport measurements remain challenging. Here we use a novel optical spectroscopy to probe the electrical transport of correlated electron-hole fluids in MoSe2/hBN/WSe2 heterostructures. We observe perfect Coulomb drag in the excitonic insulator phase up to a temperature as high as ~15K. Strongly correlated electron and hole transport is also observed at unbalanced electron and hole densities, although the Coulomb drag is not perfect anymore. Meanwhile, the counterflow resistance of interlayer excitons remains finite. These results indicate the formation of an exciton gas in the excitonic insulator which does not condensate into a superfluid at low temperature. Our work also demonstrates that dynamic optical spectroscopy provides a powerful tool for probing novel exciton transport behavior and possible exciton superfluidity in correlated quantum electron-hole fluids.

mixed attention auto encoder for multi-class industrial anomaly detection

Most existing methods for unsupervised industrial anomaly detection train a separate model for each object category. This kind of approach can easily capture the category-specific feature distributions, but results in high storage cost and low training efficiency. In this paper, we propose a unified mixed-attention auto encoder (MAAE) to implement multi-class anomaly detection with a single model. To alleviate the performance degradation due to the diverse distribution patterns of different categories, we employ spatial attentions and channel attentions to effectively capture the global category information and model the feature distributions of multiple classes. Furthermore, to simulate the realistic noises on features and preserve the surface semantics of objects from different categories which are essential for detecting the subtle anomalies, we propose an adaptive noise generator and a multi-scale fusion module for the pre-trained features. MAAE delivers remarkable performances on the benchmark dataset compared with the state-of-the-art methods.

Polyimides Crosslinked by Aromatic Molecules and Nanocomposites for High Temperature Capacitive Energy Storage

High temperature polymer-based dielectric capacitors are crucial for application in electronic power systems. However, the storage performance of conventional dielectrics polymer dramatically deteriorates due to the thermal breakdown under concurrent high temperatures and electric fields, and there are hardly reports on the causes of thermal breakdown from the aspects of the high temperature conduction loss and Joule heat dissipation. Herein, a combined strategy of crosslinking and compositing for polyimide-based nanocomposites is proposed, which minimizes the thermal breakdown by significantly inhibiting the high-temperature conduction loss and enhancing the high thermal conductivity. Furthermore, the rationale of the strategy was theoretically and experimentally verified from multiple perspectives. The charge-trapping effect is directly observed and quantitatively probed by Kelvin probe force microscopy with nano level resolution, indicating that the crosslinking network introduces local deep traps and effectively suppresses the charge transport. The thermal conductivity of the nanocomposites inhibits the high temperature thermal breakdown, which is confirmed by phase field simulations. Consequently, the optimized nanocomposites possess an ultra high discharge energy density(Ud) of 5.45 J/cm3 and 3.54 J/cm3 with a charge discharge efficiency, respectively, which outperforms the reported polyimide based dielectric nanocomposites. This work provides a scalable direction for high temperature polymer based capacitors with excellent performance.

NLTE analysis for Y I and Y II in atmospheres of F-G-K stars

The non-local thermodynamical equilibrium (NLTE) line formation of Y I and Y II is considered in 1D LTE model atmospheres of F-G-K-type stars. The model atom was constructed with the most up-to-date atomic data, including quantum cross sections and rate coefficients for transitions in inelastic collisions of Y I and Y II with hydrogen atoms. For seven reference stars, we obtained an agreement between NLTE abundances inferred from the two ionization stages, while the difference in LTE abundance (Y I - Y II) can reach up to -0.31 dex. In the atmospheres of F-G-K-type stars, for both Y I and Y II lines, the NLTE abundance corrections are positive. In solar metallicity stars, the NLTE abundance corrections for Y II lines do not exceed 0.12 dex, while in atmospheres of metal-poor stars they do not exceed 0.21 dex. For Y I lines, the NLTE abundance corrections can reach up to 0.5 dex. We determined the yttrium NLTE abundances for a sample of 65 F and G dwarfs and subgiants in the -2.62~$\leq$~[Fe/H]~$\leq$~+0.24 metallicity range, using high-resolution spectra. For stars with [Fe/H]~$\leq$~-1.5, [Y/Fe] versus [Fe/H] diagram reveals positive trend with an average value of [Y/Fe]~$\simeq$~0. For metal-poor stars, among Sr, Y, and Zr, the arrangement [Sr/Fe] < [Y/Fe] < [Zr/Fe] remains consistent. The current study is useful for the Galactic chemical evolution research. The model atom will be applied for NLTE yttrium abundance determination in very metal-poor stars studied with LAMOST and Subaru.

A Conditional Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Model for Radio Interferometric Image Reconstruction

In radio astronomy, signals from radio telescopes are transformed into images of observed celestial objects, or sources. However, these images, called dirty images, contain real sources as well as artifacts due to signal sparsity and other factors. Therefore, radio interferometric image reconstruction is performed on dirty images, aiming to produce clean images in which artifacts are reduced and real sources are recovered. So far, existing methods have limited success on recovering faint sources, preserving detailed structures, and eliminating artifacts. In this paper, we present VIC-DDPM, a Visibility and Image Conditioned Denoising Diffusion Probabilistic Model. Our main idea is to use both the original visibility data in the spectral domain and dirty images in the spatial domain to guide the image generation process with DDPM. This way, we can leverage DDPM to generate fine details and eliminate noise, while utilizing visibility data to separate signals from noise and retaining spatial information in dirty images. We have conducted experiments in comparison with both traditional methods and recent deep learning based approaches. Our results show that our method significantly improves the resulting images by reducing artifacts, preserving fine details, and recovering dim sources. This advancement further facilitates radio astronomical data analysis tasks on celestial phenomena.
