750 GeV Diphoton Resonance, 125 GeV Higgs and Muon g-2 Anomaly in Deflected Anomaly Mediation SUSY Breaking Scenario

We propose to interpret the 750 GeV diphoton excess in deflected anomaly mediation supersymmetry breaking scenarios, which can naturally predict couplings between a singlet field and vector-like messengers. The CP-even scalar component (S) of the singlet field can serve as the 750 GeV resonance. The messenger scale, which is of order the gravitino scale, can be as light as F_ϕ\sim {\cal O}(10) TeV when the messenger species N_F and the deflection parameter d are moderately large. Such messengers can induce the large loop decay process S \to γγ. Our results show that such a scenario can successfully accommodate the 125 GeV Higgs boson, the 750 GeV diphoton excess and the muon g-2 without conflicting with the LHC constraints. We also comment on the possible explanations in the gauge mediation supersymmetry breaking scenario.

Radiative natural SUSY spectrum from deflected AMSB scenario with messenger-matter interactions

A radiative natural SUSY spectrum are proposed in the deflected anomaly mediation scenario with general messenger-matter interactions. Due to the contributions from the new interactions, positive slepton masses as well as a large |A_t| term can naturally be obtained with either sign of deflection parameter and few messenger species (thus avoid the possible Landau pole problem). In this scenario, in contrast to the ordinary (radiative) natural SUSY scenario with under-abundance of dark matter (DM), the DM can be the mixed bino-higgsino and have the right relic density. The 125 GeV Higgs mass can also be easily obtained in our scenario. The majority of low EW fine tuning points can be covered by the XENON-1T direct detection experiments.

High-Order Extended Finite Element Methods for Solving Interface Problems

In this paper, we study arbitrary order extended finite element (XFE) methods based on two discontinuous Galerkin (DG) schemes in order to solve elliptic interface problems in two and three dimensions. Optimal error estimates in the piecewise $H^1$-norm and in the $L^2$-norm are rigorously proved for both schemes. In particular, we have devised a new parameter-friendly DG-XFEM method, which means that no "sufficiently large" parameters are needed to ensure the optimal convergence of the scheme. To prove the stability of bilinear forms, we derive non-standard trace and inverse inequalities for high-order polynomials on curved sub-elements divided by the interface. All the estimates are independent of the location of the interface relative to the meshes. Numerical examples are given to support the theoretical results.

Achieving ultrahigh carrier mobility and photo-responsivity in solution-processed perovskite/carbon nanotubes phototransistors

Organolead trihalide perovskites have drawn substantial interest for applications in photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices due to their low processing cost and remarkable physical properties. However, perovskite thin films still suffer from low carrier mobility, limiting their device performance and application potential. Here we report that embedding single-walled carbon nanotubes into halide perovskite films can significantly enhance the hole and electron mobilities to record-high values of 595.3 and 108.7 cm2 V-1 s-1, respectively. In the ambipolar phototransistors with such hybrid channels, photo-carriers generated in the light-absorbing perovskite matrix are transported by the carbon nanotubes, leading to ultrahigh detectivity of 6 * 1014 Jones and responsivity of 1 * 104 A W-1. We find that the perovskite precursor in dimethylformamide solution serve as an excellent stabilizer for the dispersion of carbon nanotubes, which potentially extend the scope of applications of perovskites in solution-processed functional composites. The unprecedented high performances underscore the perovskite/carbon nanotubes hybrids as an emerging class of functional materials in optoelectronic and other applications.

750 GeV diphoton resonance in a top and bottom seesaw model

The top/bottom seesaw model, which extends the top seesaw in order to accomodate a 125 GeV Higgs boson, predicts vector-like top/bottom partners and these partners can be bounded to form several neutral and charged singlet composite scalars by some new strong dynamics. In this letter, we use such a singlet scalar to interpret the 750 GeV diphoton reseanance. This singlet scalar is dominantly produced through the gluon fusion process induced by the partners and its diphoton decay is induced by both the partners and the charged singlet scalars. We show that this scenario can readily account for the observed 750 GeV diphoton signal under the current LHC constraints. Further, this scenario predicts some other phenomenology, such as a strong correlation between the decays to $γγ$, $Z γ$ and $ZZ$, a three-photon singal from the associate production of a singlet scalar and a photon, as well as some signals from the partner cascade decays. These signals may jointly allow for a test of this framework in future LHC and ILC experiments.

Interpreting The 750 GeV Diphoton Excess Within Topflavor Seesaw Model

We propose to interpret the 750 GeV diphoton excess in a typical topflavor seesaw model. The new resonance X can be identified as a CP-even scalar emerging from a certain bi-doublet Higgs field. Such a scalar can couple to charged scalars, fermions as well as heavy gauge bosons predicted by the model, and consequently all of the particles contribute to the diphoton decay mode of the X. Numerical analysis indicates that the model can predict the central value of the diphoton excess without contradicting any constraints from 8 TeV LHC, and among the constraints, the tightest one comes from the Z γchannel, σ_{8 {\rm TeV}}^{Z γ} \lesssim 3.6 {\rm fb}, which requires σ_{13 {\rm TeV}}^{γγ} \lesssim 6 {\rm fb} in most of the favored parameter space.

The van Dommelen and Shen singularity in the Prandtl equations

In 1980, van Dommelen and Shen provided a numerical simulation that predicts the spontaneous generation of a singularity in the Prandtl boundary layer equations from a smooth initial datum, for a nontrivial Euler background. In this paper we provide a proof of this numerical conjecture by rigorously establishing the finite time blowup of the boundary layer thickness.

Role of anthropogenic direct heat emissions in global warming

The anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) are widely realized as the predominant drivers of global warming, but the huge and increasing anthropogenic direct heat emissions (AHE) has not gained enough attention in terms of its role in the warming of the climate system. Based on two reasonable assumptions of (1) AHE eventually transfers to the Earth energy system and (2) the net warming is only driven by the net radioactive forcing (RF) from either GHG or other causes, we analyzed the role of AHE in global warming. The mean annual total AHE of the four main sources including energy consumption, residual heat of electricity generation, biomass decomposition by land use and cover change (LUCC) and food consumption was estimated to be 4.41*10^20 J in 1970-2010, accounting for 6.23% of the net annual heat increase of the Earth reported by IPCC AR5 for the period. The mean annual radioactive forcing (RF) by AHE was up to 29.94 mW m^(-2) globally in 1981-2010, less than the annual net increase of total GHG (34.80 mW m^(-2)) but more that of CO2 (24.43 mW m^(-2). The results suggested that AHE played a great role in global warming, urging us to pay more attention to DHE for a better evaluation of RF and more reasonable energy policy including non-GHG energy in the future (Keywords: climate change, anthropogenic direct heat emission, energy, radioactive forcing, heat balance, global warming).

Deflected Anomaly Mediated SUSY Breaking Scenario With General Messenger-Matter Interactions

We propose to introduce general messenger-matter interactions in the deflected anomaly mediated SUSY breaking scenario. The most general form for the resulting soft parameters are derived. New interference terms between the GMSB type and AMSB type contributions are the unique feature of this scenario. Messenger-matter interactions involving sleptons can be used to solve the tachyonic slepton problem and naturally lead to positive slepton masses regardless of the sign of deflection parameter. Besides, due to the new contributions, large $|A_t|$ that will not trigger color-breaking stop VEV are also possible in this scenario, thus can easily give the 125 GeV higgs which was discovered by LHC. This type of deflected AMSB scenario need very few messenger species, thus can avoid possible non-perturbative gauge couplings below the GUT scale ( or Landau pole below the Planck scale ).

Bounds on Higgs And Top Quark Masses From The Other Degenerate Vacua Near The Planck Scale With Gravitational Contributions

Based on the weak coupling expansion of gravity, we calculate the gravitational contributions to yukawa coupling, scalar quartic coupling as well as gauge couplings with general Landau-DeWitt gauge-fixing choice and a gauge preserving (of SM gauge group) cut off regularization scheme. We find that the results depend on the Landau-DeWitt gauge-fixing parameter. Based on the two loop RGE of SM couplings with one loop full gravitational contributions in harmonic gauge, we study the constraints on the higgs and top quark mass from the requirement of existing the other degenerate vacua at the Planck-dominated region. Our numerical calculations show that nature will not develop the other degenerate vacua at the Planck-dominated region with current higgs and top quark masses. On the other hand, requiring the existence of the other degenerate vacua at the Planck-dominated region will constrain the higgs and top mass to lie at approximately 130 and 174 GeV, respectively.

Reconcile muon g-2 anomaly with LHC data in SUGRA with generalized gravity mediation

From generalized gravity mediation we build a SUGRA scenario in which the gluino is much heavier than the electroweak gauginos at the GUT scale. We find that such a non-universal gaugino scenario with very heavy gluino at the GUT scale can be naturally obtained with proper high dimensional operators in the framework of SU(5) GUT. Then, due to the effects of heavy gluino, at the weak scale all colored sparticles are heavy while the uncolored sparticles are light, which can explain the Brookhaven muon g-2 measurement while satisfying the collider constraints (both the 125 GeV Higgs mass and the direct search limits of sparticles) and dark matter requirements. We also find that, in order to explain the muon g-2 measurement, the neutralino dark matter is lighter than 200 GeV in our scenario, which can be mostly covered by the future Xenon1T experiment.

From Micro to Macro: Uncovering and Predicting Information Cascading Process with Behavioral Dynamics

Cascades are ubiquitous in various network environments. How to predict these cascades is highly nontrivial in several vital applications, such as viral marketing, epidemic prevention and traffic management. Most previous works mainly focus on predicting the final cascade sizes. As cascades are typical dynamic processes, it is always interesting and important to predict the cascade size at any time, or predict the time when a cascade will reach a certain size (e.g. an threshold for outbreak). In this paper, we unify all these tasks into a fundamental problem: cascading process prediction. That is, given the early stage of a cascade, how to predict its cumulative cascade size of any later time? For such a challenging problem, how to understand the micro mechanism that drives and generates the macro phenomenons (i.e. cascading proceese) is essential. Here we introduce behavioral dynamics as the micro mechanism to describe the dynamic process of a node's neighbors get infected by a cascade after this node get infected (i.e. one-hop subcascades). Through data-driven analysis, we find out the common principles and patterns lying in behavioral dynamics and propose a novel Networked Weibull Regression model for behavioral dynamics modeling. After that we propose a novel method for predicting cascading processes by effectively aggregating behavioral dynamics, and propose a scalable solution to approximate the cascading process with a theoretical guarantee. We extensively evaluate the proposed method on a large scale social network dataset. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can significantly outperform other state-of-the-art baselines in multiple tasks including cascade size prediction, outbreak time prediction and cascading process prediction.

Heavy colored SUSY partners from deflected anomaly mediation

We propose a deflected anomaly mediation scenario from SUSY QCD which can lead to both positive and negative deflection parameters (there is a smooth transition between these two deflection parameter regions by adjusting certain couplings). Such a scenario can naturally give a SUSY spectrum in which all the colored sparticles are heavy while the sleptons are light. As a result, the discrepancy between the Brookheaven $g_μ-2$ experiment and LHC data can be reconciled in this scenario. We also find that the parameter space for explaining the $g_μ-2$ anomaly at $1σ$ level can be fully covered by the future LUX-ZEPLIN 7.2 Ton experiment.

Facial Reduction and SDP Methods for Systems of Polynomial Equations

The real radical ideal of a system of polynomials with finitely many complex roots is generated by a system of real polynomials having only real roots and free of multiplicities. It is a central object in computational real algebraic geometry and important as a preconditioner for numerical solvers. Lasserre and co-workers have shown that the real radical ideal of real polynomial systems with finitely many real solutions can be determined by a combination of semi-definite programming (SDP) and geometric involution techniques. A conjectured extension of such methods to positive dimensional polynomial systems has been given recently by Ma, Wang and Zhi. We show that regularity in the form of the Slater constraint qualification (strict feasibility) fails for the resulting SDP feasibility problems. Facial reduction is then a popular technique whereby SDP problems that fail strict feasibility can be regularized by projecting onto a face of the convex cone of semi-definite problems. In this paper we introduce a framework for combining facial reduction with such SDP methods for analyzing $0$ and positive dimensional real ideals of real polynomial systems. The SDP methods are implemented in MATLAB and our geometric involutive form is implemented in Maple. We use two approaches to find a feasible moment matrix. We use an interior point method within the CVX package for MATLAB and also the Douglas-Rachford (DR) projection-reflection method. Illustrative examples show the advantages of the DR approach for some problems over standard interior point methods. We also see the advantage of facial reduction both in regularizing the problem and also in reducing the dimension of the moment matrices. Problems requiring more than one facial reduction are also presented.

A split SUSY model from SUSY GUT

We propose to split the sparticle spectrum from the hierarchy between the GUT scale and the Planck scale. A split supersymmetric model, which gives non-universal gaugino masses, is built with proper high dimensional operators in the framework of SO(10) GUT. Based on a calculation of two-loop beta functions for gauge couplings (taking into account all weak scale threshold corrections), we check the gauge coupling unification and dark matter constraints (relic density and direct detections). We find that our scenario can achieve the gauge coupling unification and satisfy the dark matter constraints in some part of parameter space. We also examine the sensitivity of the future XENON1T experiment and find that the currently allowed parameter space in our scenario can be covered for a neutralino dark matter below about 1.0 TeV.

Split Supersymmetry Under GUT and Current Dark Matter Constraints

We recalculate the two-loop beta functions for three gauge couplings taking into account all low energy threshold corrections in split supersymmetry (split-SUSY) which assumes a very high scalar mass scale M_S. We find that, in split-SUSY with gaugino mass unification assumption and a large M_S, the gauge coupling unification requires a lower bound on gaugino mass. Combined with the constraints from the dark matter relic density and direct detection limits, we find that split-SUSY is very restricted and for dark matter mass below 1 TeV the allowed parameter space can be fully covered by XENON-1T(2017).

$C^0$ Discontinuous Galerkin Methods for a Kirchhoff Plate Contact Problem

Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) methods are considered for solving a plate contact problem, which is a 4th-order elliptic variational inequality of second kind. Numerous $C^0$ DG schemes for the Kirchhoff plate bending problem are extended to the variational inequality. Properties of the DG methods, such as consistency and stability, are studied, and optimal order error estimates are derived. A numerical example is presented to show the performance of the DG methods; the numerical convergence orders confirm the theoretical prediction.

Singlet extension of the MSSM as a solution to the small cosmological scale anomalies

In this work we show that the general singlet extension of the MSSM can naturally provide a self-interacting singlino dark matter to solve the small cosmological scale anomalies (a large Sommerfeld enhancement factor can also be obtained). However, we find that the NMSSM (the singlet extension of the MSSM with Z3 symmetry) cannot achieve this due to the restricted parameter space. In our analysis we introduce the concept of symmetric and antisymmetric viscosity cross sections to deal with the non-relativistic Majorana-fermion dark matter scattering.
