Robust and Efficient Trajectory Planning for Formation Flight in Dense Environments

Formation flight has a vast potential for aerial robot swarms in various applications. However, existing methods lack the capability to achieve fully autonomous large-scale formation flight in dense environments. To bridge the gap, we present a complete formation flight system that effectively integrates real-world constraints into aerial formation navigation. This paper proposes a differentiable graph-based metric to quantify the overall similarity error between formations. This metric is invariant to rotation, translation, and scaling, providing more freedom for formation coordination. We design a distributed trajectory optimization framework that considers formation similarity, obstacle avoidance, and dynamic feasibility. The optimization is decoupled to make large-scale formation flights computationally feasible. To improve the elasticity of formation navigation in highly constrained scenes, we present a swarm reorganization method that adaptively adjusts the formation parameters and task assignments by generating local navigation goals. A novel swarm agreement strategy called global-remap-local-replan and a formation-level path planner is proposed in this work to coordinate the global planning and local trajectory optimizations. To validate the proposed method, we design comprehensive benchmarks and simulations with other cutting-edge works in terms of adaptability, predictability, elasticity, resilience, and efficiency. Finally, integrated with palm-sized swarm platforms with onboard computers and sensors, the proposed method demonstrates its efficiency and robustness by achieving the largest scale formation flight in dense outdoor environments.

Learning Combinatorial Prompts for Universal Controllable Image Captioning

Controllable Image Captioning (CIC) -- generating natural language descriptions about images under the guidance of given control signals -- is one of the most promising directions towards next-generation captioning systems. Till now, various kinds of control signals for CIC have been proposed, ranging from content-related control to structure-related control. However, due to the format and target gaps of different control signals, all existing CIC works (or architectures) only focus on one certain control signal, and overlook the human-like combinatorial ability. By ``combinatorial", we mean that our humans can easily meet multiple needs (or constraints) simultaneously when generating descriptions. To this end, we propose a novel prompt-based framework for CIC by learning Combinatorial Prompts, dubbed as ComPro. Specifically, we directly utilize a pretrained language model GPT-2 as our language model, which can help to bridge the gap between different signal-specific CIC architectures. Then, we reformulate the CIC as a prompt-guide sentence generation problem, and propose a new lightweight prompt generation network to generate the combinatorial prompts for different kinds of control signals. For different control signals, we further design a new mask attention mechanism to realize the prompt-based CIC. Due to its simplicity, our ComPro can be further extended to more kinds of combined control signals by concatenating these prompts. Extensive experiments on two prevalent CIC benchmarks have verified the effectiveness and efficiency of our ComPro on both single and combined control signals.

Triple Correlations-Guided Label Supplementation for Unbiased Video Scene Graph Generation

Video-based scene graph generation (VidSGG) is an approach that aims to represent video content in a dynamic graph by identifying visual entities and their relationships. Due to the inherently biased distribution and missing annotations in the training data, current VidSGG methods have been found to perform poorly on less-represented predicates. In this paper, we propose an explicit solution to address this under-explored issue by supplementing missing predicates that should be appear in the ground-truth annotations. Dubbed Trico, our method seeks to supplement the missing predicates by exploring three complementary spatio-temporal correlations. Guided by these correlations, the missing labels can be effectively supplemented thus achieving an unbiased predicate predictions. We validate the effectiveness of Trico on the most widely used VidSGG datasets, i.e., VidVRD and VidOR. Extensive experiments demonstrate the state-of-the-art performance achieved by Trico, particularly on those tail predicates.

Gradient-based adaptive wavelet de-noising method for photoacoustic imaging in vivo

Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) has been applied to many biomedical applications over the past decades. However, the received PA signal usually suffers from poor signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Conventional solution of employing higher-power laser, or doing long-time signal averaging, may raise the system cost, time consumption, and tissue damage. Another strategy is de-noising algorithm design. In this paper, we propose a new de-noising method, termed gradient-based adaptive wavelet de-noising, which sets the energy gradient mutation point of low-frequency wavelet components as the threshold. We conducted simulation, ex vivo and in vivo experiments to validate the performance of the algorithm. The quality of de-noised PA image/signal by our proposed algorithm has improved by 20%-40%, in comparison to the traditional signal denoising algorithms, which produces better contrast and clearer details. The proposed de-noising method provides potential to improve the SNR of PA signal under single-shot low-power laser illumination for biomedical applications in vivo.

Machine-Learning-based Colorectal Tissue Classification via Acoustic Resolution Photoacoustic Microscopy

Colorectal cancer is a deadly disease that has become increasingly prevalent in recent years. Early detection is crucial for saving lives, but traditional diagnostic methods such as colonoscopy and biopsy have limitations. Colonoscopy cannot provide detailed information within the tissues affected by cancer, while biopsy involves tissue removal, which can be painful and invasive. In order to improve diagnostic efficiency and reduce patient suffering, we studied machine-learningbased approach for colorectal tissue classification that uses acoustic resolution photoacoustic microscopy (ARPAM). With this tool, we were able to classify benign and malignant tissue using multiple machine learning methods. Our results were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively to evaluate the effectiveness of our approach.

Decentralized Planning for Car-Like Robotic Swarm in Cluttered Environments

Robot swarm is a hot spot in robotic research community. In this paper, we propose a decentralized framework for car-like robotic swarm which is capable of real-time planning in cluttered environments. In this system, path finding is guided by environmental topology information to avoid frequent topological change, and search-based speed planning is leveraged to escape from infeasible initial value's local minima. Then spatial-temporal optimization is employed to generate a safe, smooth and dynamically feasible trajectory. During optimization, the trajectory is discretized by fixed time steps. Penalty is imposed on the signed distance between agents to realize collision avoidance, and differential flatness cooperated with limitation on front steer angle satisfies the non-holonomic constraints. With trajectories broadcast to the wireless network, agents are able to check and prevent potential collisions. We validate the robustness of our system in simulation and real-world experiments. Code will be released as open-source packages.

Robo-centric ESDF: A Fast and Accurate Whole-body Collision Evaluation Tool for Any-shape Robotic Planning

For letting mobile robots travel flexibly through complicated environments, increasing attention has been paid to the whole-body collision evaluation. Most existing works either opt for the conservative corridor-based methods that impose strict requirements on the corridor generation, or ESDF-based methods that suffer from high computational overhead. It is still a great challenge to achieve fast and accurate whole-body collision evaluation. In this paper, we propose a Robo-centric ESDF (RC-ESDF) that is pre-built in the robot body frame and is capable of seamlessly applied to any-shape mobile robots, even for those with non-convex shapes. RC-ESDF enjoys lazy collision evaluation, which retains only the minimum information sufficient for whole-body safety constraint and significantly speeds up trajectory optimization. Based on the analytical gradients provided by RC-ESDF, we optimize the position and rotation of robot jointly, with whole-body safety, smoothness, and dynamical feasibility taken into account. Extensive simulation and real-world experiments verified the reliability and generalizability of our method.

Roller-Quadrotor: A Novel Hybrid Terrestrial/Aerial Quadrotor with Unicycle-Driven and Rotor-Assisted Turning

The Roller-Quadrotor is a novel quadrotor that combines the maneuverability of aerial drones with the endurance of ground vehicles. This work focuses on the design, modeling, and experimental validation of the Roller-Quadrotor. Flight capabilities are achieved through a quadrotor configuration, with four thrust-providing actuators. Additionally, rolling motion is facilitated by a unicycle-driven and rotor-assisted turning structure. By utilizing terrestrial locomotion, the vehicle can overcome rolling and turning resistance, thereby conserving energy compared to its flight mode. This innovative approach not only tackles the inherent challenges of traditional rotorcraft but also enables the vehicle to navigate through narrow gaps and overcome obstacles by taking advantage of its aerial mobility. We develop comprehensive models and controllers for the Roller-Quadrotor and validate their performance through experiments. The results demonstrate its seamless transition between aerial and terrestrial locomotion, as well as its ability to safely navigate through gaps half the size of its diameter. Moreover, the terrestrial range of the vehicle is approximately 2.8 times greater, while the operating time is about 41.2 times longer compared to its aerial capabilities. These findings underscore the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed structure and control mechanisms for efficient navigation through challenging terrains while conserving energy.

Catch Planner: Catching High-Speed Targets in the Flight

Catching high-speed targets in the flight is a complex and typical highly dynamic task. In this paper, we propose Catch Planner, a planning-with-decision scheme for catching. For sequential decision making, we propose a policy search method based on deep reinforcement learning. In order to make catching adaptive and flexible, we propose a trajectory optimization method to jointly optimize the highly coupled catching time and terminal state while considering the dynamic feasibility and safety. We also propose a flexible constraint transcription method to catch targets at any reasonable attitude and terminal position bias. The proposed Catch Planner provides a new paradigm for the combination of learning and planning and is integrated on the quadrotor designed by ourselves, which runs at 100hz on the onboard computer. Extensive experiments are carried out in real and simulated scenes to verify the robustness of the proposed method and its expansibility when facing a variety of high-speed flying targets.

Polynomial-based Online Planning for Autonomous Drone Racing in Dynamic Environments

In recent years, there is a noteworthy advancement in autonomous drone racing. However, the primary focus is on attaining execution times, while scant attention is given to the challenges of dynamic environments. The high-speed nature of racing scenarios, coupled with the potential for unforeseeable environmental alterations, present stringent requirements for online replanning and its timeliness. For racing in dynamic environments, we propose an online replanning framework with an efficient polynomial trajectory representation. We trade off between aggressive speed and flexible obstacle avoidance based on an optimization approach. Additionally, to ensure safety and precision when crossing intermediate racing waypoints, we formulate the demand as hard constraints during planning. For dynamic obstacles, parallel multi-topology trajectory planning is designed based on engineering considerations to prevent racing time loss due to local optimums. The framework is integrated into a quadrotor system and successfully demonstrated at the DJI Robomaster Intelligent UAV Championship, where it successfully complete the racing track and placed first, finishing in less than half the time of the second-place.

Score-based Generative Models for Photoacoustic Image Reconstruction with Rotation Consistency Constraints

Photoacoustic tomography (PAT) is a newly emerged imaging modality which enables both high optical contrast and acoustic depth of penetration. Reconstructing images of photoacoustic tomography from limited amount of senser data is among one of the major challenges in photoacoustic imaging. Previous works based on deep learning were trained in supervised fashion, which directly map the input partially known sensor data to the ground truth reconstructed from full field of view. Recently, score-based generative models played an increasingly significant role in generative modeling. Leveraging this probabilistic model, we proposed Rotation Consistency Constrained Score-based Generative Model (RCC-SGM), which recovers the PAT images by iterative sampling between Langevin dynamics and a constraint term utilizing the rotation consistency between the images and the measurements. Our proposed method can generalize to different measurement processes (32.29 PSNR with 16 measurements under random sampling, whereas 28.50 for supervised counterpart), while supervised methods need to train on specific inverse mappings.

A general quantum matrix exponential dimensionality reduction framework based on block-encoding

As a general framework, Matrix Exponential Dimensionality Reduction (MEDR) deals with the small-sample-size problem that appears in linear Dimensionality Reduction (DR) algorithms. High complexity is the bottleneck in this type of DR algorithm because one has to solve a large-scale matrix exponential eigenproblem. To address it, here we design a general quantum algorithm framework for MEDR based on the block-encoding technique. This framework is configurable, that is, by selecting suitable methods to design the block-encodings of the data matrices, a series of new efficient quantum algorithms can be derived from this framework. Specifically, by constructing the block-encodings of the data matrix exponentials, we solve the eigenproblem and then obtain the digital-encoded quantum state corresponding to the compressed low-dimensional dataset, which can be directly utilized as input state for other quantum machine learning tasks to overcome the curse of dimensionality. As applications, we apply this framework to four linear DR algorithms and design their quantum algorithms, which all achieve a polynomial speedup in the dimension of the sample over their classical counterparts.

Quantum Secret Reconstruction

In addition to secret splitting, secret reconstruction is another important component of secret sharing. In this paper, the first quantum secret reconstruction protocol based on cluster states is proposed. Before the protocol, a classical secret is divided into multiple shares, which are distributed among shareholders via secret splitting. In the protocol, the dealer utilizes her secret to encrypt a private quantum state, and sends the encrypted state to a combiner chosen by her from the shareholders. With the help of other shareholders, the combiner utilizes the properties of cluster states to recover the privacy quantum state. It is shown that the proposed protocol is secure against several common attacks, including external and internal attacks. Compared with classical secret reconstruction protocols, this protocol not only achieves theoretical security of all shares, but also is more efficient due to reducing the distribution cost and computation cost. To demonstrate the feasibility of the protocol, a corresponding simulation quantum experiment is conducted on the IBM Q platform. Furthermore, in conjunction with quantum fingerprinting, it can be directly applied to achieve the task of multiple secrets sharing, because the classical shares can be reused in the proposed protocol.

Efficient and secure quantum network coding based on quantum full homomorphic encryption

Based on $d$-dimensional quantum full homomorphic encryption, an efficient and secure quantum network coding protocol is proposed in this paper. First, a quantum full homomorphic encryption protocol is constructed utilizing $d$-dimensional universal quantum gates. On this basis, an efficient quantum network coding protocol is proposed. In the protocol, two source nodes encrypt their respective prepared quantum states with the quantum full homomorphic encryption protocol. The two intermediate nodes successively perform homomorphic evaluation of the received quantum states. Finally, the two sink nodes recover the quantum states transmitted by the two source nodes in the butterfly network depending on their measurement results. The performance analysis shows that the proposed quantum network coding protocol is correct and resistant to attacks launched by dishonest intermediate nodes and external eavesdroppers. Compared to related protocols, the proposed protocol not only enables to transfer information in $d$-dimensional quantum system, but also requires only 1 quantum gate and a key of length 2 in the encryption phase, which makes the protocol has higher efficiency.

Polarization-Orthogonal Nondegenerate Plasmonic Higher-Order Topological States

Photonic topological states, providing light-manipulation approaches in robust manners, have attracted intense attention. Connecting photonic topological states with far-field degrees of freedom(DoFs) has given rise to fruitful phenomena. Recently emerged higher-order topological insulators (HOTIs), hosting boundary states two or more dimensions lower than those of bulk, offer new paradigms to localize/transport light topologically in extended dimensionalities. However, photonic HOTIs have not been related to DoFs of radiation fields yet. Here, we report the observation of polarization-orthogonal second-order topological corner states at different frequencies on a designer-plasmonic Kagome metasurface in the far field.Such phenomenon stands on two mechanisms, i.e., projecting the far-field polarizations to the intrinsic parity DoFs of lattice modes and the parity splitting of the plasmonic corner states in spectra. We theoretically and numerically show that the parity splitting originates from the underlying inter-orbital coupling. Both near-field and far-field experiments verify the polarization-orthogonal nondegeneratesecond-order topological corner states. These results promise applications in robust optical single photon emitters and multiplexed photonic devices.

Quantum Speed Limit for Time-Fractional Open Systems

The Time-Fractional Schrödinger Equation (TFSE) is well-adjusted to study a quantum system interacting with its dissipative environment. The Quantum Speed Limit (QSL) time captures the shortest time required for a quantum system to evolve between two states, which is significant for evaluating the maximum speed in quantum processes. In this work, we solve exactly for a generic time-fractional single qubit open system by applying the TFSE to a basic open quantum system model, namely the resonant dissipative Jaynes-Cummings (JC) model, and investigate the QSL time for the system. It is shown that the non-Markovian memory effects of the environment can accelerate the time-fractional quantum evolution, thus resulting in a smaller QSL time. Additionally, the condition for the acceleration evolution of the time-fractional open quantum system at a given driving time, i.e., a tradeoff among the fractional order, coupling strength, and photon number, is brought to light. In particular, a method to manipulate the non-Markovian dissipative dynamics of a time-fractional open quantum system by adjusting the fractional order for a long driving time is presented.

Semantic-aware Generation of Multi-view Portrait Drawings

Neural radiance fields (NeRF) based methods have shown amazing performance in synthesizing 3D-consistent photographic images, but fail to generate multi-view portrait drawings. The key is that the basic assumption of these methods -- a surface point is consistent when rendered from different views -- doesn't hold for drawings. In a portrait drawing, the appearance of a facial point may changes when viewed from different angles. Besides, portrait drawings usually present little 3D information and suffer from insufficient training data. To combat this challenge, in this paper, we propose a Semantic-Aware GEnerator (SAGE) for synthesizing multi-view portrait drawings. Our motivation is that facial semantic labels are view-consistent and correlate with drawing techniques. We therefore propose to collaboratively synthesize multi-view semantic maps and the corresponding portrait drawings. To facilitate training, we design a semantic-aware domain translator, which generates portrait drawings based on features of photographic faces. In addition, use data augmentation via synthesis to mitigate collapsed results. We apply SAGE to synthesize multi-view portrait drawings in diverse artistic styles. Experimental results show that SAGE achieves significantly superior or highly competitive performance, compared to existing 3D-aware image synthesis methods. The codes are available at https://github.com/AiArt-HDU/SAGE.

Ultrafast and Electrically Tunable Rabi Frequency in a Germanium Hut Wire Hole Spin Qubit

Hole spin qubits based on germanium (Ge) have strong tunable spin orbit interaction (SOI) and ultrafast qubit operation speed. Here we report that the Rabi frequency (f_Rabi) of a hole spin qubit in a Ge hut wire (HW) double quantum dot (DQD) is electrically tuned through the detuning energy and middle gate voltage (V_M). f_Rabi gradually decreases with increasing detuning energy; on the contrary, f_Rabi is positively correlated with V_M. We attribute our results to the change of electric field on SOI and the contribution of the excited state in quantum dots to f_Rabi. We further demonstrate an ultrafast f_Rabi exceeding 1.2 GHz, which evidences the strong SOI in our device. The discovery of an ultrafast and electrically tunable f_Rabi in a hole spin qubit has potential applications in semiconductor quantum computing.
