Simple smooth modules over the superconformal current algebra

In this paper, we classify simple smooth modules over the superconformal current algebra $\frak g$. More precisely, we first classify simple smooth modules over the Heisenberg-Clifford algebra, and then prove that any simple smooth $\frak g$-module is a tensor product of such modules for the super Virasoro algebra and the Heisenberg-Clifford algebra, or an induced module from a simple module over some finite-dimensional solvable Lie superalgebras. As a byproduct, we provide characterizations for both simple highest weight $\frak g$-modules and simple Whittaker $\frak g$-modules. Additionally, we present several examples of simple smooth $\frak g$-modules that are not tensor product of modules over the super Virasoro algebra and the Heisenberg-Clifford algebra.

Imbalance-Agnostic Source-Free Domain Adaptation via Avatar Prototype Alignment

Source-free Unsupervised Domain Adaptation (SF-UDA) aims to adapt a well-trained source model to an unlabeled target domain without access to the source data. One key challenge is the lack of source data during domain adaptation. To handle this, we propose to mine the hidden knowledge of the source model and exploit it to generate source avatar prototypes. To this end, we propose a Contrastive Prototype Generation and Adaptation (CPGA) method. CPGA consists of two stages: Prototype generation and Prototype adaptation. Extensive experiments on three UDA benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority of CPGA. However, existing SF.UDA studies implicitly assume balanced class distributions for both the source and target domains, which hinders their real applications. To address this issue, we study a more practical SF-UDA task, termed imbalance-agnostic SF-UDA, where the class distributions of both the unseen source domain and unlabeled target domain are unknown and could be arbitrarily skewed. This task is much more challenging than vanilla SF-UDA due to the co-occurrence of covariate shifts and unidentified class distribution shifts between the source and target domains. To address this task, we extend CPGA and propose a new Target-aware Contrastive Prototype Generation and Adaptation (T-CPGA) method. Specifically, for better prototype adaptation in the imbalance-agnostic scenario, T-CPGA applies a new pseudo label generation strategy to identify unknown target class distribution and generate accurate pseudo labels, by utilizing the collective intelligence of the source model and an additional contrastive language-image pre-trained model. Meanwhile, we further devise a target label-distribution-aware classifier to adapt the model to the unknown target class distribution. We empirically show that T-CPGA significantly outperforms CPGA and other SF-UDA methods in imbalance-agnostic SF-UDA.

Huber Principal Component Analysis for Large-dimensional Factor Models

Factor models have been widely used in economics and finance. However, the heavy-tailed nature of macroeconomic and financial data is often neglected in the existing literature. To address this issue and achieve robustness, we propose an approach to estimate factor loadings and scores by minimizing the Huber loss function, which is motivated by the equivalence of conventional Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and the constrained least squares method in the factor model. We provide two algorithms that use different penalty forms. The first algorithm, which we refer to as Huber PCA, minimizes the $\ell_2$-norm-type Huber loss and performs PCA on the weighted sample covariance matrix. The second algorithm involves an element-wise type Huber loss minimization, which can be solved by an iterative Huber regression algorithm. Our study examines the theoretical minimizer of the element-wise Huber loss function and demonstrates that it has the same convergence rate as conventional PCA when the idiosyncratic errors have bounded second moments. We also derive their asymptotic distributions under mild conditions. Moreover, we suggest a consistent model selection criterion that relies on rank minimization to estimate the number of factors robustly. We showcase the benefits of Huber PCA through extensive numerical experiments and a real financial portfolio selection example. An R package named ``HDRFA" has been developed to implement the proposed robust factor analysis.

Probing hairy black holes caused by gravitational decoupling using quasinormal modes and greybody bounds

Gravitational decoupling can add hair to the black holes by adding extra sources. The quasinormal modes of hairy black hole caused by gravitational decoupling for the massless scalar field, electromagnetic field, and gravitational perturbation are investigated. The equations of effective potential for three perturbations are derived in hairy black hole spacetime. We also study the time evolution corresponding to the three perturbations, and the quasinormal mode frequencies are calculated using the Prony method through the time-domain profiles. By analyzing the influence of the hairs ($α$, $l_0$ and $Q$) for the black holes we studying on quasinormal mode, we find that the hairs $α$ and $l_0$ decrease the oscillation frequency of the gravitational wave signal, and the hair $Q$ increase its oscillation frequency.Furthermore, we have calculated the bounds of greybody factor and high-energy absorption cross section with the Sinc approximation, which reveals that the presence of charges ($α$ and $l_0$) generating primary hair can increase the probability of gravitational radiation arriving spatial infinity, whereas the charge $Q$ from the extra sources does the opposite.

Ringing and echoes from black bounces surrounded by the string cloud

In the string theory, the fundamental blocks of nature are not particles but one-dimensional strings. Therefore, a generalization of this idea is to think of it as a cloud of strings. Rodrigues et al. embedded the black bounces spacetime into the string cloud, which demonstrates that the existence of the string cloud makes the Bardeen black hole singular, while the black bounces spacetime remains regular. On the other hand, the echoes are the correction to the late stage of the quasinormal ringing for a black hole, which is caused by the deviation of the spacetime relative to the initial black hole spacetime geometry in the near-horizon region. In this work, we study the gravitational wave echoes of black bounces spacetime surrounded by a cloud of strings under scalar field and electromagnetic field perturbation to explore the effects caused by a string cloud in the near-horizon region. The ringing of the regular black hole and traversable wormhole with string cloud are presented. Our results demonstrate that the black bounce spacetime with strings cloud is characterized by gravitational wave echoes as it transitions from regular black holes to wormholes, i.e. the echoes signal will facilitate us to distinguish between black holes and the wormholes in black bounces surrounded by the string cloud.

PyramidFlow: High-Resolution Defect Contrastive Localization using Pyramid Normalizing Flow

During industrial processing, unforeseen defects may arise in products due to uncontrollable factors. Although unsupervised methods have been successful in defect localization, the usual use of pre-trained models results in low-resolution outputs, which damages visual performance. To address this issue, we propose PyramidFlow, the first fully normalizing flow method without pre-trained models that enables high-resolution defect localization. Specifically, we propose a latent template-based defect contrastive localization paradigm to reduce intra-class variance, as the pre-trained models do. In addition, PyramidFlow utilizes pyramid-like normalizing flows for multi-scale fusing and volume normalization to help generalization. Our comprehensive studies on MVTecAD demonstrate the proposed method outperforms the comparable algorithms that do not use external priors, even achieving state-of-the-art performance in more challenging BTAD scenarios.

Temporal Context Mining for Learned Video Compression

We address end-to-end learned video compression with a special focus on better learning and utilizing temporal contexts. For temporal context mining, we propose to store not only the previously reconstructed frames, but also the propagated features into the generalized decoded picture buffer. From the stored propagated features, we propose to learn multi-scale temporal contexts, and re-fill the learned temporal contexts into the modules of our compression scheme, including the contextual encoder-decoder, the frame generator, and the temporal context encoder. Our scheme discards the parallelization-unfriendly auto-regressive entropy model to pursue a more practical decoding time. We compare our scheme with x264 and x265 (representing industrial software for H.264 and H.265, respectively) as well as the official reference software for H.264, H.265, and H.266 (JM, HM, and VTM, respectively). When intra period is 32 and oriented to PSNR, our scheme outperforms H.265--HM by 14.4% bit rate saving; when oriented to MS-SSIM, our scheme outperforms H.266--VTM by 21.1% bit rate saving.

$U(\frak h)$-free modules over the Lie algebras of differential operators

In this paper, we consider some non-weight modules over the Lie algebra of Weyl type. First, we determine the modules whose restriction to $U(\frak h)$ are free of rank $1$ over the Lie algebra of differential operators on the circle. Then we determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for the tensor products of quasi-finite highest weight modules and $U(\frak h)$-free modules to be irreducible, and obtain that any two such tensor products are isomorphic if and only if the corresponding highest weight modules and $U(\frak h)$-free modules are isomorphic. Finally, we extend such results to the Lie algebras of differential operators in the general case.

Micromechanical controls on the brittle-plastic transition in rocks

The rheology of rocks transitions from a localized brittle behaviour to distributed plastic behaviour with increasing pressure and temperature. This brittle-plastic is empirically observed to occur when the material strength becomes lower than the confining stress, which is termed Goetze's criterion. Such a criterion works well for most silicates but is not universal for all materials. We aim to determine the microphysical controls and stress-strain behaviour of rocks in the brittle-plastic transition. We use a micro-mechanical approach due to Horii and Nemat-Nasser, and consider representative volume elements containing sliding wing-cracks and plastic zones. We find solutions for frictional slip, plastic deformation and crack opening at constant confining pressure, and obtain stress-strain evolution. We show that the brittle-plastic transition depends on the confining stress, fracture toughness and plastic yield stress but also critically on the friction coefficient on preexisting defects. Materials with low friction are expected to be more brittle, and experience transition to fully plastic flow at higher pressure than anticipated from Goetze's criterion. The overall success of Goetze's criterion for the brittle-plastic transition in rocks is likely arising from the low toughness, high strength, and medium friction coefficient character of most rock forming minerals.

Local derivations on the Lie algebra $W(2,2)$

The present paper is devoted to studying local derivations on the Lie algebra $W(2,2)$ which has some outer derivations. Using some linear algebra methods in \cite{CZZ} and a key construction for $W(2,2)$ we prove that every local derivation on $W(2, 2)$ is a derivation. As an application, we determine all local derivations on the deformed $\mathfrak{bms}_3$ algebra.

aiWave: Volumetric Image Compression with 3-D Trained Affine Wavelet-like Transform

Volumetric image compression has become an urgent task to effectively transmit and store images produced in biological research and clinical practice. At present, the most commonly used volumetric image compression methods are based on wavelet transform, such as JP3D. However, JP3D employs an ideal, separable, global, and fixed wavelet basis to convert input images from pixel domain to frequency domain, which seriously limits its performance. In this paper, we first design a 3-D trained wavelet-like transform to enable signal-dependent and non-separable transform. Then, an affine wavelet basis is introduced to capture the various local correlations in different regions of volumetric images. Furthermore, we embed the proposed wavelet-like transform to an end-to-end compression framework called aiWave to enable an adaptive compression scheme for various datasets. Last but not least, we introduce the weight sharing strategies of the affine wavelet-like transform according to the volumetric data characteristics in the axial direction to reduce the amount of parameters. The experimental results show that: 1) when cooperating our trained 3-D affine wavelet-like transform with a simple factorized entropy module, aiWave performs better than JP3D and is comparable in terms of encoding and decoding complexities; 2) when adding a context module to further remove signal redundancy, aiWave can achieve a much better performance than HEVC.

Efficient Extraction of Hot Carriers in Perovskite Quantum Dot through Building State Coupled Complex

Utilizing hot carriers is the crucial approach for solar cell to exceed the thermodynamic detailed balance limit, yet effective extraction of hot carriers in absorber materials via most commonly used semiconductor acceptors has been a challenge in both materials and photophysics research for many years. Herein, we build series of CsPbI3 quantum dot and fullerene derivative systems to explore the decisive factors of this process and have for the first time realized efficient hot carrier extraction in these systems (maximum extraction efficiency ~ 84%). We find building the systems as state-coupled complexes creates new carrier transport channels at about 0.22 eV above CsPbI3 quantum dot bandgap, which facilitates highly efficient HC extraction. Our research directly visualizes the inner connection of molecule interaction and ultrafast hot carrier extraction. The knowledge and strategy gained here are of universal meaning, taking an important step forward true hot carrier photovoltaics.

Multiple-Objective Packet Routing Optimization for Aeronautical ad-hoc Networks

Providing Internet service above the clouds is of ever-increasing interest and in this context aeronautical {\it{ad-hoc}} networking (AANET) constitutes a promising solution. However, the optimization of packet routing in large ad hoc networks is quite challenging. In this paper, we develop a discrete $ε$ multi-objective genetic algorithm ($ε$-DMOGA) for jointly optimizing the end-to-end latency, the end-to-end spectral efficiency (SE), and the path expiration time (PET) that specifies how long the routing path can be relied on without re-optimizing the path. More specifically, a distance-based adaptive coding and modulation (ACM) scheme specifically designed for aeronautical communications is exploited for quantifying each link's achievable SE. Furthermore, the queueing delay at each node is also incorporated into the multiple-objective optimization metric. Our $ε$-DMOGA assisted multiple-objective routing optimization is validated by real historical flight data collected over the Australian airspace on two selected representative dates.

Flow-Guided Transformer for Video Inpainting

We propose a flow-guided transformer, which innovatively leverage the motion discrepancy exposed by optical flows to instruct the attention retrieval in transformer for high fidelity video inpainting. More specially, we design a novel flow completion network to complete the corrupted flows by exploiting the relevant flow features in a local temporal window. With the completed flows, we propagate the content across video frames, and adopt the flow-guided transformer to synthesize the rest corrupted regions. We decouple transformers along temporal and spatial dimension, so that we can easily integrate the locally relevant completed flows to instruct spatial attention only. Furthermore, we design a flow-reweight module to precisely control the impact of completed flows on each spatial transformer. For the sake of efficiency, we introduce window partition strategy to both spatial and temporal transformers. Especially in spatial transformer, we design a dual perspective spatial MHSA, which integrates the global tokens to the window-based attention. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method qualitatively and quantitatively. Codes are available at https://github.com/hitachinsk/FGT.

The ringing of quantum corrected Schwarzschild black hole with GUP

Schwarzschild black holes with quantum corrections are studied under scalar field perturbations and electromagnetic field perturbations to analyze the effect of the correction term on the potential function and quasinormal mode (QNM). In classical general relativity, spacetime is continuous and there is no existence of the so-called minimal length. The introduction of the correction items of the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP), the parameter $β$, can change the singularity structure of the black hole gauge and may lead to discretization in time and space. We apply the sixth-order WKB method to approximate the QNM of Schwarzschild black holes with quantum corrections and perform numerical analysis to derive the results of the method. Also, we find that the effective potential and QNM in scalar fields are larger than those in electromagnetic fields.

Towards Hybrid-Optimization Video Coding

Video coding is a mathematical optimization problem of rate and distortion essentially. To solve this complex optimization problem, two popular video coding frameworks have been developed: block-based hybrid video coding and end-to-end learned video coding. If we rethink video coding from the perspective of optimization, we find that the existing two frameworks represent two directions of optimization solutions. Block-based hybrid coding represents the discrete optimization solution because those irrelevant coding modes are discrete in mathematics. It searches for the best one among multiple starting points (i.e. modes). However, the search is not efficient enough. On the other hand, end-to-end learned coding represents the continuous optimization solution because the gradient descent is based on a continuous function. It optimizes a group of model parameters efficiently by the numerical algorithm. However, limited by only one starting point, it is easy to fall into the local optimum. To better solve the optimization problem, we propose to regard video coding as a hybrid of the discrete and continuous optimization problem, and use both search and numerical algorithm to solve it. Our idea is to provide multiple discrete starting points in the global space and optimize the local optimum around each point by numerical algorithm efficiently. Finally, we search for the global optimum among those local optimums. Guided by the hybrid optimization idea, we design a hybrid optimization video coding framework, which is built on continuous deep networks entirely and also contains some discrete modes. We conduct a comprehensive set of experiments. Compared to the continuous optimization framework, our method outperforms pure learned video coding methods. Meanwhile, compared to the discrete optimization framework, our method achieves comparable performance to HEVC reference software HM16.10 in PSNR.

Echoes of charged black-bounce spacetimes

In present work, the evolution of scalar field and electromagnetic field under the background of the charged black-bounce spacetimes are investigated, and we obtain an obvious echoes signal which appropriately reports the properties of the charged black-bounce spacetimes and disclose the physical reasons behind such phenomena. Furthermore, by studying the quasinormal ringdown, we analyze the three states of the charged black-bounce spacetimes in detail, our results show that the echoes signal only appears when $(\rvert {Q}\rvert \le m)$ and $(\rvert {l}\rvert > m+ \sqrt{m ^{2}-Q^{2} })$ in this spacetime, while when the parameters demand $(\rvert {Q}\rvert>m)$, the echoes signal will be transformed into a quasinormal ringdown of the two-way traversable wormhole, and the charged black-bounce is a regular black hole with normal horizons by requiring $(\rvert {Q}\rvert \le m)$ and $(\rvert {l}\rvert < m- \sqrt{m ^{2}-Q^{2} })$.
