Phase transition in the Higgs model of scalar dyons

In the present paper we investigate the phase transition "Coulomb--confinement" in the Higgs model of abelian scalar dyons -- particles having both, electric $e$ and magnetic $g$, charges. It is shown that by dual symmetry this theory is equivalent to scalar fields with the effective squared electric charge e^{*2}=e^2+g^2. But the Dirac relation distinguishes the electric and magnetic charges of dyons. The following phase transition couplings are obtained in the one--loop approximation: α_{crit}=e^2_{crit}/4π\approx 0.19, \tildeα_{crit}=g^2_{crit}/4π\approx 1.29 and α^*_{crit}\approx 1.48.

Generalized dual symmetry of nonabelian theories and the freezing of α_s

The quantum Yang-Mills theory, describing a system of fields with non-dual (chromo-electric g) and dual (chromo-magnetic \tilde g) charges and revealing the generalized dual symmetry, is developed by analogy with the Zwanziger formalism in QED. The renormalization group equations (RGEs) for pure nonabelian theories are analysed for both constants, α= g^2 / 4πand \tildeα= {\tilde g}^2 / 4π. The pure SU(3) \times \widetilde{SU(3)} gauge theory is investigated as an example. We consider not only monopoles, but also dyons. The behaviour of the total SU(3) β-function is investigated in the whole region of α\equiv α_s: 0 \le α< \infty. It is shown that this β-function is antisymmetric under the interchange α\longleftrightarrow 1/αand is given by the well-known perturbative expansion not only for α\ll 1, but also for α\gg 1. Using an idea of the Maximal Abelian Projection by t' Hooft, we considered the formation of strings - the ANO flux tubes - in the Higgs model of scalar monopole (or dyon) fields. In this model we have constructed the behaviour of the β-function in the vicinity of the point α= 1, where it acquires a zero value. Considering the phase transition points at α\approx 0.4 and α\approx 2.5, we give the explanation of the freezing of α_s. The evolution of α_s^{-1}(μ) and the behaviour of V_{eff}(μ) are investigated for both, perturbative and non-perturbative regions of QCD. It was shown that the effective potential has a minimum, ensured by the dual sector of QCD. The gluon condensate F^2_0, corresponding to this minimum, is predicted: F^2_0 \approx 0.15 GeV^4, in agreement with the well-known results.

See-saw fermion masses in an SO(10) GUT

In this work we study an SO(10) GUT model with minimum Higgs representations belonging only to the 210 and 16 dimensional representations of SO(10). We add a singlet fermion S in addition to the usual 16 dimensional representation containing quarks and leptons. There are no Higgs bi-doublets and so charged fermion masses come from one-loop corrections. Consequently all the fermion masses, Dirac and Majorana, are of the see-saw type. We minimize the Higgs potential and show how the left-right symmetry is broken in our model where it is assumed that a D-parity odd Higgs field gets a vacuum expectation value at the grand unification scale. From the renormalization group equations we infer that in our model unification happens at 10^{15} GeV and left-right symmetry can be extended up to some values just above 10^{11} GeV. The Yukawa sector of our model is completely different from most of the standard grand unified theories and we explicitly show how the Yukawa sector will look like in the different phases and briefly comment on the running of the top quark mass. We end with a brief analysis of lepton number asymmetry generated from the interactions in our model.

Flipped SU(5), see-saw scale physics and degenerate vacua

We investigate the requirement of the existence of two degenerate vacua of the effective potential as a function of the Weinberg-Salam Higgs scalar field norm, as suggested by the multiple point principle, in an extension of the Standard Model including see-saw scale physics. Results are presented from an investigation of an extension of the Standard Model to the gauge symmetry group SU(3)_C\times SU(2)_L\times U(1)'\times \tilde U(1), where two groups U(1)' and \tilde U(1) originate at the see-saw scale M_{SS}, when heavy (right-handed) neutrinos appear. The consequent unification of the group SU(3)_C\times SU(2)_L\times U(1)' into the flipped SU(5) at the GUT scale leads to the group SU(5)\times \tilde U(1). We assume the position of the second minimum of the effective potential coincides with the fundamental scale, here taken to be the GUT scale. We solve the renormalization group equations in the one-loop approximation and obtain a top-quark mass of 171\pm 3 GeV and a Higgs mass of 129\pm 4 GeV, in the case when the Yukawa couplings of the neutrinos are less than half that of the top quark at the GUT scale.

Generalized dual symmetry of nonabelian theories, monopoles and dyons

In the present talk we present an investigation of nonabelian SU(N) gauge theories, describing a system of fields with non--dual g and dual \tilde g charges and revealing the generalized dual symmetry. The Zwanziger type action is suggested. The renormalization group equations for pure nonabelian theories, in particular for pure SU(3)\times\widetilde{SU(3)} gauge theory (as an example) are analysed. We consider not only monopoles, but also dyons. The behaviour of the QCD total beta--function is investigated. It was shown that this beta--function is antisymmetric under the interchange α\leftrightarrow\frac 1α(here α\equivα_s), and has zero ("fixed point") at α= 1. Monopoles, or dyons, are responsible for the phase transition. Considering critical points at α_1\approx 0.4 and α_2\approx 2.5, we give an explanation of the freezing of α_s.

Phase transition in gauge theories, monopoles and the Multiple Point Principle

This review is devoted to the Multiple Point Principle (MPP), according to which several vacuum states with the same energy density exist in Nature. The MPP is implemented to the Standard Model (SM), Family replicated gauge group model (FRGGM) and phase transitions in gauge theories with/without monopoles. Lattice gauge theories are reviewed. The lattice results for critical coupling constants are compared with those of the Higgs Monopole Model (HMM), in which the lattice artifact monopoles are replaced by the point-like Higgs scalar particles with a magnetic charge. Considering our (3+1)-dimensional space-time as discrete, for example, as a lattice with a parameter a=λ_P, equal to the Planck length, we have investigated the additional contributions of monopoles to beta-functions of renormalization group equations in the FRGGM extended beyond the SM at high (the Planck scale) energies. We have reviewed that, in contrast to the Anti-grand unified theory (AGUT), there exists a possibility of unification of all gauge interactions (including gravity) near the Planck scale due to monopoles. The unifications [SU(5)]^3 and [SO(10)]^3 at the GUT-scale \sim 10^{18} GeV are briefly discussed.

Radiative stability of neutrino-mass textures

Neutrino-mass textures proposed at high-scales are known to be unstable against radiative corrections especially for nearly degenerate eigen values. Within the renormalization group constraints we find a mechanism in a class of gauge theories which guarantees reproduction of any high-scale texture at low energies with radiative stability. We also show how the mechanism explains solar and atmospheric neutrino anomalies through the bimaximal texture at high scale.

New Formulas and Predictions for Running Fermion Masses at Higher Scales in SM, 2HDM, and MSSM

Including contributions of scale-dependent vacuum expectation values, we derive new analytic formulas and obtain substantially different numerical predictions for the running masses of quarks and charged-leptons at higher scales in the SM, 2HDM and MSSM. These formulas exhibit significantly different behaviours with respect to their dependence on gauge and Yukawa couplings than those derived earlier. At one-loop level the masses of the first two generations are found to be independent of Yukawa couplings of the third generation in all the three effective theories in the small mixing limit. Analytic formulas are also obtained for running $\tanβ(μ)$ in 2HDM and MSSM. Other numerical analyses include study of the third generation masses at high scales as functions of low-energy values of $\tanβ$ and SUSY scale $M_S=M_Z-10^4$ GeV.
