RPM-Oriented Query Rewriting Framework for E-commerce Keyword-Based Sponsored Search

Sponsored search optimizes revenue and relevance, which is estimated by Revenue Per Mille (RPM). Existing sponsored search models are all based on traditional statistical models, which have poor RPM performance when queries follow a heavy-tailed distribution. Here, we propose an RPM-oriented Query Rewriting Framework (RQRF) which outputs related bid keywords that can yield high RPM. RQRF embeds both queries and bid keywords to vectors in the same implicit space, converting the rewriting probability between each query and keyword to the distance between the two vectors. For label construction, we propose an RPM-oriented sample construction method, labeling keywords based on whether or not they can lead to high RPM. Extensive experiments are conducted to evaluate performance of RQRF. In a one month large-scale real-world traffic of e-commerce sponsored search system, the proposed model significantly outperforms traditional baseline.

Evaluation of the $θ_K$ and the Mixing angle $θ_{h_1}$

The $θ_K$ has been re-evaluated via mass relations and latest experimental results, meanwhile, the $M_{K_{1B}}$ also be obtained. Based on the singlet-octet mixing model and quark-flavor mixing model, the $θ_{h_1}$ has been recalculated with a modified formula, by inputting $M_{K_{1B}}$ instead of $θ_K$. The values are calculated to be $|{θ_K}| = {(42.6 \pm 2.2)^ \circ }$, $M_{K_{1B}} = 1333.9 \pm 4.6\ {\rm{MeV}}/c^{2}$ and $θ_{h_1} = 29.5\pm 2.0^\circ$. Using these calculations as input, we predict that the branching fraction of $J/ψ\to η'(η)h_1(1170)$ is about one order higher than that of $J/ψ\to η'(η)h_1(1415)$, which can be measured in future experiments to test the validity of these two models.

Aggregating E-commerce Search Results from Heterogeneous Sources via Hierarchical Reinforcement Learning

In this paper, we investigate the task of aggregating search results from heterogeneous sources in an E-commerce environment. First, unlike traditional aggregated web search that merely presents multi-sourced results in the first page, this new task may present aggregated results in all pages and has to dynamically decide which source should be presented in the current page. Second, as pointed out by many existing studies, it is not trivial to rank items from heterogeneous sources because the relevance scores from different source systems are not directly comparable. To address these two issues, we decompose the task into two subtasks in a hierarchical structure: a high-level task for source selection where we model the sequential patterns of user behaviors onto aggregated results in different pages so as to understand user intents and select the relevant sources properly; and a low-level task for item presentation where we formulate a slot filling process to sequentially present the items instead of giving each item a relevance score when deciding the presentation order of heterogeneous items. Since both subtasks can be naturally formulated as sequential decision problems and learn from the future user feedback on search results, we build our model with hierarchical reinforcement learning. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our model obtains remarkable improvements in search performance metrics, and achieves a higher user satisfaction.

New dynamics of energy use and CO2 emissions in China

Global achievement of climate change mitigation will heavy reply on how much of CO2 emission has and will be released by China. After rapid growth of emissions during last decades, China CO2 emissions declined since 2014 that driven by decreased coal consumption, suggesting a possible peak of China coal consumption and CO2 emissions. Here, by combining a updated methodology and underlying data from different sources, we reported the soaring 5.5% (range: +2.5% to +8.5% for one sigma) increase of China CO2 emissions in 2018 compared to 2017, suggesting China CO2 is not yet to peak and leaving a big uncertain to whether China emission will continue to rise in the future. Although our best estimate of total emission (9.9Gt CO2 in 2018) is lower than international agencies in the same year, the results show robust on a record-high energy consumption and total CO2 emission in 2018. During 2014-2016, China energy intensity (energy consumption per unit of GDP) and total CO2 emissions has decreased driven by energy and economic structure optimization. However, the decrease in emissions is now offset by stimulates of heavy industry production under economic downturn that driving coal consumption (+5% in 2018), as well as the surging of natural gas consumption (+18% in 2018) due to the government led coal-to-gas energy transition to reduce local air pollutions. Timing policy and actions are urgent needed to address on these new drivers to turn down the total emission growth trend.

Analysis of $CP$ violation in $ D^0 \to K^+ K^- π^0 $

We study the $\mathit{CP}$ violation induced by the interference between two intermediate resonances $K^*(892)^+$ and $K^*(892)^-$ in the phase space of singly-Cabibbo-suppressed decay $D^0 \to K^+K^-π^0$. We adopt the factorization-assisted topological approach in dealing with the decay amplitudes of $D^0 \to K^\pm K^*(892)^\mp$. The $\mathit{CP}$ asymmetries of two-body decays are predicted to be very tiny, which are $(-1.27 \pm 0.25) \times 10^{-5}$ and $(3.86 \pm 0.26) \times 10^{-5}$ respectively for $D^0 \to K^+ K^*(892)^-$ and $D^0 \to K^- K^*(892)^+$. While the differential $\mathit{CP}$ asymmetry of $D^0 \to K^+K^-π^0$ is enhanced because of the interference between the two intermediate resonances, which can reach as large as $3\times10^{-4}$. For some NPs which have considerable impacts on the chromomagnetic dipole operator $O_{8g}$, the global $\mathit{CP}$ asymmetries of $D^0 \to K^+ K^*(892)^- $ and $D^0 \to K^- K^*(892)^+ $ can be then increased to $(0.56\pm0.08)\times10^{-3}$ and $(-0.50\pm0.04)\times10^{-3}$, respectively. The regional $\mathit{CP}$ asymmetry in the overlapped region of the phase space can be as large as $( 1.3\pm 0.3)\times10^{-3}$.

An AMR Aligner Tuned by Transition-based Parser

In this paper, we propose a new rich resource enhanced AMR aligner which produces multiple alignments and a new transition system for AMR parsing along with its oracle parser. Our aligner is further tuned by our oracle parser via picking the alignment that leads to the highest-scored achievable AMR graph. Experimental results show that our aligner outperforms the rule-based aligner in previous work by achieving higher alignment F1 score and consistently improving two open-sourced AMR parsers. Based on our aligner and transition system, we develop a transition-based AMR parser that parses a sentence into its AMR graph directly. An ensemble of our parsers with only words and POS tags as input leads to 68.4 Smatch F1 score.

Towards Better UD Parsing: Deep Contextualized Word Embeddings, Ensemble, and Treebank Concatenation

This paper describes our system (HIT-SCIR) submitted to the CoNLL 2018 shared task on Multilingual Parsing from Raw Text to Universal Dependencies. We base our submission on Stanford's winning system for the CoNLL 2017 shared task and make two effective extensions: 1) incorporating deep contextualized word embeddings into both the part of speech tagger and parser; 2) ensembling parsers trained with different initialization. We also explore different ways of concatenating treebanks for further improvements. Experimental results on the development data show the effectiveness of our methods. In the final evaluation, our system was ranked first according to LAS (75.84%) and outperformed the other systems by a large margin.

Transfer entropy between communities in complex networks

With the help of transfer entropy, we analyze information flows between communities of complex networks. We show that the transfer entropy provides a coherent description of interactions between communities, including non-linear interactions. To put some flesh on the bare bones, we analyze transfer entropies between communities of five largest financial markets, represented as networks of interacting stocks. Additionally, we discuss information transfer of rare events, which is analyzed by Rényi transfer entropy.

Theoretical analysis of direct $CP$ violation and differential decay width in $D^\pm\to π^\pm π^+π^-$ in phase space around the resonances $ρ^0(770)$ and $f_0(500)$

We perform a theoretical study on direct $CP$ violation in $D^\pm\to π^\pm π^+π^-$ in phase space around the intermediate states $ρ^0(770)$ and $f_0(500)$. The possible interference between the amplitudes corresponding to the two resonances is taken into account, and the relative strong phase of the two amplitudes is treated as a free parameter. Our analysis shows that by properly chosen the strong phase, both the $CP$ violation strength and differential decay width accommodate to the experimental results.

Agent-based model with multi-level herding for complex financial systems

In complex financial systems, the sector structure and volatility clustering are respectively important features of the spatial and temporal correlations. However, the microscopic generation mechanism of the sector structure is not yet understood. Especially, how to produce these two features in one model remains challenging. We introduce a novel interaction mechanism, i.e., the multi-level herding, in constructing an agent-based model to investigate the sector structure combined with volatility clustering. According to the previous market performance, agents trade in groups, and their herding behavior comprises the herding at stock, sector and market levels. Further, we propose methods to determine the key model parameters from historical market data, rather than from statistical fitting of the results. From the simulation, we obtain the sector structure and volatility clustering, as well as the eigenvalue distribution of the cross-correlation matrix, for the New York and Hong Kong stock exchanges. These properties are in agreement with the empirical ones. Our results quantitatively reveal that the multi-level herding is the microscopic generation mechanism of the sector structure, and provide new insight into the spatio-temporal interactions in financial systems at the microscopic level.

How volatilities nonlocal in time affect the price dynamics in complex financial systems

What is the dominating mechanism of the price dynamics in financial systems is of great interest to scientists. The problem whether and how volatilities affect the price movement draws much attention. Although many efforts have been made, it remains challenging. Physicists usually apply the concepts and methods in statistical physics, such as temporal correlation functions, to study financial dynamics. However, the usual volatility-return correlation function, which is local in time, typically fluctuates around zero. Here we construct dynamic observables nonlocal in time to explore the volatility-return correlation, based on the empirical data of hundreds of individual stocks and 25 stock market indices in different countries. Strikingly, the correlation is discovered to be non-zero, with an amplitude of a few percent and a duration of over two weeks. This result provides compelling evidence that past volatilities nonlocal in time affect future returns. Further, we introduce an agent-based model with a novel mechanism, that is, the asymmetric trading preference in volatile and stable markets, to understand the microscopic origin of the volatility-return correlation nonlocal in time.

Agent-based model with asymmetric trading and herding for complex financial systems

Background: For complex financial systems, the negative and positive return-volatility correlations, i.e., the so-called leverage and anti-leverage effects, are particularly important for the understanding of the price dynamics. However, the microscopic origination of the leverage and anti-leverage effects is still not understood, and how to produce these effects in agent-based modeling remains open. On the other hand, in constructing microscopic models, it is a promising conception to determine model parameters from empirical data rather than from statistical fitting of the results. Methods: To study the microscopic origination of the return-volatility correlation in financial systems, we take into account the individual and collective behaviors of investors in real markets, and construct an agent-based model. The agents are linked with each other and trade in groups, and particularly, two novel microscopic mechanisms, i.e., investors' asymmetric trading and herding in bull and bear markets, are introduced. Further, we propose effective methods to determine the key parameters in our model from historical market data. Results: With the model parameters determined for six representative stock-market indices in the world respectively, we obtain the corresponding leverage or anti-leverage effect from the simulation, and the effect is in agreement with the empirical one on amplitude and duration. At the same time, our model produces other features of the real markets, such as the fat-tail distribution of returns and the long-term correlation of volatilities. Conclusions: We reveal that for the leverage and anti-leverage effects, both the investors' asymmetric trading and herding are essential generation mechanisms. These two microscopic mechanisms and the methods for the determination of the key parameters can be applied to other complex systems with similar asymmetries.

Online Mechanism Design for Cloud Computing

In this work, we study the problem of online mechanism design for resources allocation and pricing in cloud computing (RAPCC). We show that in general the allocation problems in RAPCC are NP-hard, and therefore we focus on designing dominant-strategy incentive compatible (DSIC) mechanisms with good competitive ratios compared to the offline optimal allocation (with the prior knowledge about the future jobs). We propose two kinds of DSIC online mechanisms. The first mechanism, which is based on a greedy allocation rule and leverages a priority function for allocation, is very fast and has a tight competitive bound. We discuss several priority functions including exponential and linear priority functions, and show that the former one has a better competitive ratio. The second mechanism, which is based on a dynamic program for allocation, also has a tight competitive ratio and performs better than the first one when the maximum demand of cloud customers is close to the capacity of the cloud provider.

Adaptive financial networks with static and dynamic thresholds

Based on the daily data of American and Chinese stock markets, the dynamic behavior of a financial network with static and dynamic thresholds is investigated. Compared with the static threshold, the dynamic threshold suppresses the large fluctuation induced by the cross-correlation of individual stock prices, and leads to a stable topological structure in the dynamic evolution. Long-range time-correlations are revealed for the average clustering coefficient, average degree and cross-correlation of degrees. The dynamic network shows a two-peak behavior in the degree distribution.

Two Parallel Swendsen-Wang Cluster Algorithms Using Message-Passing Paradigm

In this article, we present two different parallel Swendsen-Wang Cluster(SWC) algorithms using message-passing interface(MPI). One is based on Master-Slave Parallel Model(MSPM) and the other is based on Data-Parallel Model(DPM). A speedup of 24 with 40 processors and 16 with 37 processors is achieved with the DPM and MSPM respectively. The speedup of both algorithms at different temperature and system size is carefully examined both experimentally and theoretically, and a comparison of their efficiency is made. In the last section, based on these two parallel SWC algorithms, two parallel probability changing cluster(PCC) algorithms are proposed.

Computer simulations of two-dimensional melting with dipole-dipole interactions

We perform molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations of two-dimensional melting with dipole-dipole interactions. Both static and dynamic behaviors are examined. In the isotropic liquid phase, the bond orientational correlation length 6 and susceptibility 6 are measured, and the data are fitted to the theoretical ansatz. An algebraic decay is detected for both spatial and temporal bond orientational correlation functions in an intermediate temperature regime, and it provides an explicit evidence for the existence of the hexatic phase. From the finite-size scaling analysis of the global bond orientational order parameter, the disclination unbinding temperature Ti is estimated. In addition, from dynamic Monte Carlo simulations of the positional order parameter, we extract the critical exponents at the dislocation unbinding temperature Tm. All the results are in agreement with those from experiments and support the Kosterlitz-Thouless-Halperin-Nelson-Young (KTHNY) theory.

Short-time critical dynamics at perfect and non-perfect surface

We report Monte Carlo simulations of critical dynamics far from equilibrium on a perfect and non-perfect surface in the 3d Ising model. For an ordered initial state, the dynamic relaxation of the surface magnetization, the line magnetization of the defect line, and the corresponding susceptibilities and appropriate cumulant is carefully examined at the ordinary, special and surface phase transitions. The universal dynamic scaling behavior including a dynamic crossover scaling form is identified. The exponent $β_1$ of the surface magnetization and $β_2$ of the line magnetization are extracted. The impact of the defect line on the surface universality classes is investigated.
