Thermal Relic of Self-Interacting Dark Matter with Retarded Decay of Mediator

The existence of a light mediator is beneficial to some phenomena in astroparticle physics, such as the core-cusp problem and diversity problem. It can decouple from Standard Model to avoid direct detection constraints, generally realized by retard decay of the mediator. Their out-of-equilibrium decay process changes the dark matter (DM) freeze-out via temperature discrepancy. This type of hidden sector (HS) typically requires a precision calculation of the freeze-out process considering HS temperature evolution and the thermal average of the cross-section. If the mediator is light sufficiently, we can not ignore the s-wave radiative bound state formation process from the perspective of CMB ionization and Sommerfeld enhancement. We put large mass splitting between DM and mediator, different temperature evolution on the same theoretical footing, discussing the implication for DM relic density in this HS. We study this model and illustrate its property by considering the general Higgs-portal dark matter scenario, which includes all the relevant constraints and signals. It shows that the combination of BBN and CMB constraint favors the not-too-hot HS, $r_{\mathrm{inf}}<10^2$, for the positive cubic interaction of mediator scenario. On the other hand, the negative cubic interaction is ruled out except for our proposed blind spot scenario.

Self-resonant Dark Matter

We present a novel mechanism for Sommerfeld enhancement for dark matter interactions without the need for light mediators. Considering a model for two-component dark matter with a triple coupling, we find that one of dark matter particles leads to an $u$-channel resonance in dark matter elastic scattering. From the sum of the $u$-channel ladder diagrams, we obtain a Bethe-Salpeter equation with a delay term and identify the Sommerfeld factor from the elastic scattering of two dark matter components for the first time. We discuss the implications of our results for enhancing dark matter self-scattering and annihilation.

Line Spectrum Representation for Vector Processes With Application to Frequency Estimation

A positive semidefinite Toeplitz matrix, which often arises as the finite covariance matrix of a stationary random process, can be decomposed as the sum of a nonnegative multiple of the identity corresponding to a white noise, and a singular term corresponding to a purely deterministic process. Moreover, the singular nonnegative Toeplitz matrix admits a unique characterization in terms of spectral lines which are associated to an oscillatory signal. This is the content of the famous Carathéodory-Fejér theorem. Its importance lies in the practice of extracting the signal component from noise, providing insights in modeling, filtering, and estimation. The multivariate counterpart of the theorem concerning block-Toeplitz matrices is less well understood, and in this paper, we aim to partially address this issue. To this end, we first establish an existence result of the line spectrum representation for a finite covariance multisequence of some underlying random vector field. Then, we give a sufficient condition for the uniqueness of the representation, which indeed holds true in the special case of bivariate time series. Equivalently, we obtain the Vandermonde decomposition for positive semidefinite block-Toeplitz matrices with $2\times 2$ blocks. The theory is applied to the problem of frequency estimation with two measurement channels within the recently developed framework of atomic norm minimization. It is shown that exact frequency recovery can be guaranteed in the noiseless case under suitable conditions, while in the noisy case, extensive numerical simulations are performed showing that the method performs well in a wide range of signal-to-noise ratios.

M$^2$-Spectral Estimation: A Flexible Approach Ensuring Rational Solutions

This paper concerns a spectral estimation problem for multivariate (i.e., vector-valued) signals defined on a multidimensional domain, abbreviated as M$^2$. The problem is posed as solving a finite number of trigonometric moment equations for a nonnegative matricial measure, which is well known as the \emph{covariance extension problem} in the literature of systems and control. This inverse problem and its various generalizations have been extensively studied in the past three decades, and they find applications in diverse fields such as modeling and system identification, signal and image processing, robust control, circuit theory, etc. In this paper, we address the challenging M$^2$ version of the problem, and elaborate on a solution technique via convex optimization with the $τ$-divergence family. As a major contribution of this work, we show that by properly choosing the parameter of the divergence index, the optimal spectrum is a rational function, that is, the solution is a spectral density which can be represented by a finite-dimensional system, as desired in many practical applications.

Silting reduction in extriangulated categories

Presilting and silting subcategories in extriangulated categories were introduced by Adachi and Tsukamoto recently. In this paper, we prove that the Gabriel-Zisman localization $\mathcal B/({\rm thick}\mathcal W)$ of an extriangulated category $\mathcal B$ with respect to a presilting subcategory $\mathcal W$ satisfying certain condition can be realized as a subfactor category of $\mathcal B$. This generalizes the result by Iyama-Yang for silting reduction on triangulated categories. Then we discuss the relation between silting subcategories and tilting subcategories in extriangulated categories, this gives us a kind of important examples of our results. In particular, for a finite dimensional Gorenstein algebra, we get the relative version of the description of the singularity category due to Happel and Chen-Zhang by this reduction.

A Fast Robust Numerical Continuation Solver to a Two-Dimensional Spectral Estimation Problem

This paper presents a fast algorithm to solve a spectral estimation problem for two-dimensional random fields. The latter is formulated as a convex optimization problem with the Itakura-Saito pseudodistance as the objective function subject to the constraints of moment equations. We exploit the structure of the Hessian of the dual objective function in order to make possible a fast Newton solver. Then we incorporate the Newton solver to a predictor-corrector numerical continuation method which is able to produce a parametrized family of solutions to the moment equations. We have performed two sets of numerical simulations to test our algorithm and spectral estimator. The simulations on the frequency estimation problem shows that our spectral estimator outperforms the classical windowed periodograms in the case of two hidden frequencies and has a higher resolution. The other set of simulations on system identification indicates that the numerical continuation method is more robust than Newton's method alone in ill-conditioned instances.

TREATED:Towards Universal Defense against Textual Adversarial Attacks

Recent work shows that deep neural networks are vulnerable to adversarial examples. Much work studies adversarial example generation, while very little work focuses on more critical adversarial defense. Existing adversarial detection methods usually make assumptions about the adversarial example and attack method (e.g., the word frequency of the adversarial example, the perturbation level of the attack method). However, this limits the applicability of the detection method. To this end, we propose TREATED, a universal adversarial detection method that can defend against attacks of various perturbation levels without making any assumptions. TREATED identifies adversarial examples through a set of well-designed reference models. Extensive experiments on three competitive neural networks and two widely used datasets show that our method achieves better detection performance than baselines. We finally conduct ablation studies to verify the effectiveness of our method.

Conformal Blocks from Celestial Gluon Amplitudes II: Single-valued Correlators

In a recent paper, here referred to as part I, we considered the celestial four-gluon amplitude with one gluon represented by the shadow transform of the corresponding primary field operator. This correlator is ill-defined because it contains branch points related to the presence of conformal blocks with complex spin. In this work, we adopt a procedure similar to minimal models and construct a single-valued completion of the shadow correlator, in the limit when the shadow is "soft." By following the approach of Dotsenko and Fateev, we obtain an integral representation of such a single-valued correlator. This allows inverting the shadow transform and constructing a single-valued celestial four-gluon amplitude. This amplitude is drastically different from the original Mellin amplitude. It is defined over the entire complex plane and has correct crossing symmetry, OPE and bootstrap properties. It agrees with all known OPEs of celestial gluon operators. The conformal block spectrum consists of primary fields with dimensions $Δ=m+i λ$, with integer $m\geq 1$ and various, but always integer spin, in all group representations contained in the product of two adjoint representations.

Hawking-Page transition with reentrance and triple point in Gauss-Bonnet gravity

In this paper, a new family of Hawking-Page (HP) transition, the HP transition with reentrance and triple point is introduced for the first time, by investigating HP transition of hyperbolic AdS black hole in extended thermodynamics of general dimensional Gauss-Bonnet gravity. The Reentrant HP transition is composed of two HP transitions with a large and a small HP temperature, and the triple point corresponds to small black holes/massless black holes/large black holes (SBHs/MBHs/LBHs) phases all coexisting. We present the two branches of HP transition temperatures, which both depend on the pressure (i.e. the cosmological constant) and the Gauss-Bonnet constant. Besides, the pressure and the Gauss-Bonnet constant both enlarge the large HP temperature and diminish the small HP temperature. We also show the coexistence lines in the $P-T$ phase diagrams. The triple point and an up critical point in phase diagrams for arbitrary dimensional Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole systems are given, together with some interesting universal relations which only depend on the dimensions of spacetime. We can explain the reentrant HP transition and triple point of SBHs/MBHs/LBHs as the phase transition and triple point of Hadronic matter/Quark-Gluon/Plasma/Quarkyonic matter in the QCD phase diagram. These results may improve the comprehension of the black hole thermodynamics in the quantum gravity framework and shed some light on the AdS/CFT correspondence beyond the classical gravity limit.

Transferable Adversarial Examples for Anchor Free Object Detection

Deep neural networks have been demonstrated to be vulnerable to adversarial attacks: subtle perturbation can completely change prediction result. The vulnerability has led to a surge of research in this direction, including adversarial attacks on object detection networks. However, previous studies are dedicated to attacking anchor-based object detectors. In this paper, we present the first adversarial attack on anchor-free object detectors. It conducts category-wise, instead of previously instance-wise, attacks on object detectors, and leverages high-level semantic information to efficiently generate transferable adversarial examples, which can also be transferred to attack other object detectors, even anchor-based detectors such as Faster R-CNN. Experimental results on two benchmark datasets demonstrate that our proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance and transferability.

Imperceptible Adversarial Examples for Fake Image Detection

Fooling people with highly realistic fake images generated with Deepfake or GANs brings a great social disturbance to our society. Many methods have been proposed to detect fake images, but they are vulnerable to adversarial perturbations -- intentionally designed noises that can lead to the wrong prediction. Existing methods of attacking fake image detectors usually generate adversarial perturbations to perturb almost the entire image. This is redundant and increases the perceptibility of perturbations. In this paper, we propose a novel method to disrupt the fake image detection by determining key pixels to a fake image detector and attacking only the key pixels, which results in the $L_0$ and the $L_2$ norms of adversarial perturbations much less than those of existing works. Experiments on two public datasets with three fake image detectors indicate that our proposed method achieves state-of-the-art performance in both white-box and black-box attacks.

Pyramid Fusion Dark Channel Prior for Single Image Dehazing

In this paper, we propose the pyramid fusion dark channel prior (PF-DCP) for single image dehazing. Based on the well-known Dark Channel Prior (DCP), we introduce an easy yet effective approach PF-DCP by employing the DCP algorithm at a pyramid of multi-scale images to alleviate the problem of patch size selection. In this case, we obtain the final transmission map by fusing transmission maps at each level to recover a high-quality haze-free image. Experiments on RESIDE SOTS show that PF-DCP not only outperforms the traditional prior-based methods with a large margin but also achieves comparable or even better results of state-of-art deep learning approaches. Furthermore, the visual quality is also greatly improved with much fewer color distortions and halo artifacts.

Conformal Blocks from Celestial Gluon Amplitudes

In celestial conformal field theory, gluons are represented by primary fields with dimensions $Δ=1+iλ$, $λ\in\mathbb{R}$ and spin $J=\pm 1$, in the adjoint representation of the gauge group. All two- and three-point correlation functions of these fields are zero as a consequence of four-dimensional kinematic constraints. Four-point correlation functions contain delta-function singularities enforcing planarity of four-particle scattering events. We relax these constraints by taking a shadow transform of one field and perform conformal block decomposition of the corresponding correlators. We compute the conformal block coefficients. When decomposed in channels that are "compatible" in two and four dimensions, such four-point correlators contain conformal blocks of primary fields with dimensions $Δ=2+M+iλ$, where $M\ge 0$ is an integer, with integer spin $J=-M,-M+2,\dots,M-2,M$. They appear in all gauge group representations obtained from a tensor product of two adjoint representations. When decomposed in incompatible channels, they also contain primary fields with continuous complex spin, but with positive integer dimensions.

Exothermic dark mesons in light of electron recoil excess at XENON1T

We consider a novel mechanism to realize exothermic dark matter with dark mesons in the limit of approximate flavor symmetry in a dark QCD. We introduce a local dark $U(1)'$ symmetry to communicate between dark mesons and the Standard Model via $Z'$ portal by partially gauging the dark flavor symmetry with flavor-dependent charges for cancelling chiral anomalies in the dark sector. After the dark local $U(1)'$ is broken spontaneously by the VEV of a dark Higgs, there appear small mass splittings between dark quarks, consequently, leading to small split masses for dark mesons, required to explain the electron recoil excess in XENON1T by the inelastic scattering between dark mesons and electron. We propose a concrete benchmark model for split dark mesons based on $SU(3)_L\times SU(3)_R/ SU(3)_V$ flavor symmetry and $SU(N_c)$ color group and show that there exists a parameter space making a better fit to the XENON1T data with two correlated peaks from exothermic processes and satisfying the correct relic density, current experimental and theoretical constraints.

An Optimized H.266/VVC Software Decoder On Mobile Platform

As the successor of H.265/HEVC, the new versatile video coding standard (H.266/VVC) can provide up to 50% bitrate saving with the same subjective quality, at the cost of increased decoding complexity. To accelerate the application of the new coding standard, a real-time H.266/VVC software decoder that can support various platforms is implemented, where SIMD technologies, parallelism optimization, and the acceleration strategies based on the characteristics of each coding tool are applied. As the mobile devices have become an essential carrier for video services nowadays, the mentioned optimization efforts are not only implemented for the x86 platform, but more importantly utilized to highly optimize the decoding performance on the ARM platform in this work. The experimental results show that when running on the Apple A14 SoC (iPhone 12pro), the average single-thread decoding speed of the present implementation can achieve 53fps (RA and LB) for full HD (1080p) bitstreams generated by VTM-11.0 reference software using 8bit Common Test Conditions (CTC). When multi-threading is enabled, an average of 32 fps (RA) can be achieved when decoding the 4K bitstreams.

Singularity categories of Gorenstein monomial algebras

In this paper, we consider the singularity category $D_{sg}(\mod A)$ and the $\mathbb{Z}$-graded singularity category $D_{sg}(\mod^{\mathbb Z} A)$ for a Gorenstein monomial algebra $A$. Firstly, for a positively graded $1$-Gorenstein algebra, we prove that its ${\mathbb Z}$-graded singularity category admits silting objects. Secondly, for $A=KQ/I$ being a Gorenstein monomial algebra, we prove that $D_{sg}(\mod^{\mathbb Z} A)$ has tilting objects. As a consequence, $D_{sg}(\mod^{\mathbb Z}A)$ is triangulated equivalent to the derived category of a hereditary algebra $H$ which is of finite representation type. Finally, we give a characterization of $1$-Gorenstein monomial algebras, and describe their singularity categories clearly by using the triangulated orbit categories of type ${\mathbb A}$.

A software decoder implementation for H.266/VVC video coding standard

Versatile Video Coding Standard (H.266/VVC) was completed by Joint Video Expert Team (JVET) of ITU-T and ISO/IEC, in July 2020. This new ITU recommendation/international standard is a successor to the well-known H.265/HEVC video coding standard with roughly doubled compression efficiency, but also at the cost of an increased computational complexity. The complexity of H.266/VVC decoder processing modules is studied in this paper. An optimized decoder implementation using SIMD instruction extensions and additional parallel processing including data and task level parallelism is presented, which can achieve real-time decoding of 4K 60fps VVC bitstreams on an x86 based CPU.

Atmospheric Dark Matter and Xenon1T Excess

Very recently, the Xenon1T collaboration has reported an intriguing electron recoil excess, which may imply for light dark matter. In order to interpret this anomaly, we propose the atmospheric dark matter (ADM) from the inelastic collision of cosmic rays (CRs) with the atmosphere. Due to the boost effect of high energy CRs, we show that the light ADM can be fast-moving and successfully fit the observed electron recoil spectrum through the ADM-electron scattering process. Meanwhile, our ADM predicts the scattering cross section $σ_e \sim {\cal O}(10^{-38}- 10^{-39}$) cm$^{2}$, and thus can evade other direct detection constraints. The search for light meson rare decays, such as $η\to π+ \slashed E_T$, would provide a complementary probe of our ADM in the future.
