Exclusive scalar $f_0(1500)$ meson production for energy ranges available at the GSI Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (GSI-FAIR) and at the Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC)

We evaluate differential distributions for exclusive scalar $f_0(1500)$ meson (glueball candidate) production for $p \bar p \to N_1 N_2 f_0$ (FAIR@GSI) and $p p \to p p f_0$ (J-PARC@Tokai). Both QCD diffractive, pion-pion meson exchange current (MEC) components as well as double-diffractive mechanism with intermediate pionic loop are calculated for the first time in the literature. The pion-pion component, which can be reliably calculated, dominates close to the threshold while the diffractive component may take over only for larger energies. At the moment only upper limit for the QCD-diffractive component can be obtained. The diffractive component is calculated based on two-gluon impact factors as well as in the framework of Khoze-Martin-Ryskin approach proposed for diffractive Higgs boson production. Different unintegrated gluon distribution functions (UGDFs) from the literature are used. Rather large cross sections due to pion-pion fusion are predicted for PANDA energies, where the gluonic mechanism is shown to be negligible. The production of $f_0(1500)$ close to threshold could limit the so-called $πNN$ form factor in the region of larger pion virtualities. We discuss in detail the two-pion background to the production of the $f_0(1500)$ meson. We compare our result with the existing data of %the WA102 Collaboration.

Low-energy pion-pion scattering in the $pp \to ppπ^{+}π^{-}$ and $p\bar p \to p\bar pπ^{+}π^{-}$ reactions

We evaluate the contribution of pion-pion rescattering to the $p p \to p p π^+ π^-$ and $p \bar p \to p \bar p π^+ π^-$ reactions. We compare our results with the close-to-threshold experimental data. The pion-pion rescattering contribution is found there to be negligible. The predictions for future experiments with PANDA detector at High Energy Storage Ring (HESR) in GSI Darmstadt are presented. It is discussed how to cut off the dominant Roper resonance and double-$Δ$ excitation mechanisms leading to the $p p π^+ π^-$ channel in final state. Differential distributions in momentum transfers, transverse momentum, effective two-pions mass, relative azimuthal angle between pions, and pion rapidities are presented.

Central exclusive production at high energies

I briefly review several mechanisms of central exclusive production of mesons at high energies. Some illustrative examples for the BNL RHIC, FNAL Tevatron and CERN LHC as well as for lower energies are discussed. Some differential distributions are shown.

Parton transverse momenta and Drell-Yan dilepton production

The differential cross section for the dilepton production is calculated including Fermi motion of hadron constituents as well as emission from the ladders in the formalism of unintegrated parton distributions. We use unintegrated parton distributions which fulfil Kwieciński evolution equations. Both zeroth- and first-order (for matrix element) contributions are included. We calculate azimuthal angular correlations between charged leptons and deviations from the $p_t(l^+) = p_t(l^-)$ relation. We concentrate on the distribution in dilepton-pair transverse momentum. We find incident energy and virtuality dependence of the distribution in transverse momentum of the lepton pair. We study also azimuthal correlations between jet and dilepton pair and correlation in the $(p_{1t}(jet),p_{2t}(l^+ l^-))$ space. The results are compared with experimental data of the R209 and UA1 collaborations.

Kinematical correlations: from RHIC to LHC

Kinematical correlations between outgoing partons (elementary particles) are discussed in the framework of $k_t$-factorization. Different unintegrated gluon distributions are used. I discuss correlations between charm-anticharm, jets, photon and jet, and between leptons from semileptonic decays of heavy quarks as well as leptons produced in the Drell-Yan mechanism. Both correlations in azimuth as well as in the length of transverse momenta are shown. General conclusions are drawn.

Exclusive Upsilon-photoproduction: from HERA to Tevatron

The amplitude for photoproduction gamma p -> Υp is calculated in a pQCD k_\perp-factorization approach. The total cross section for diffractive Υ's is compared to recent HERA data. The amplitude is used to predict the cross section for exclusive ppbar \to ppbar Υ(1S,2S) process in hadronic reactions at Tevatron energies. We also included absorption effects.

Nonphotonic electrons at RHIC within $k_t$-factorization approach and with experimental semileptonic decay functions

We discuss production of nonphotonic electrons in proton-proton scattering at RHIC. The distributions in rapidity and transverse momentum of charm and bottom quarks/antiquarks are calculated in the $k_t$-factorization approach. We use different unintegrated gluon distributions from the literature. The hadronization of heavy quarks is done by means of Peterson and Braaten et al. fragmentation functions. The semileptonic decay functions are found by fitting recent semileptonic data obtained by the CLEO and BABAR collaborations. We get good description of the data at large transverse momenta of electrons and find a missing strength concentrated at small transverse momenta of electrons. Plausible missing mechanisms are discussed.

Exclusive scalar glueball $f_0(1500)$ production for FAIR and J-PARC energy range

We evaluate differential distributions for exclusive scalar $f_0(1500)$ production for $p \bar p \to N_1 N_2 f_0$ (FAIR@GSI) and $p p \to p p f_0$ (J-PARC@Tokai). Both QCD diffractive and pion-pion meson exchange current (MEC) components are included. Rather large cross sections are predicted. The pion-pion component, never discussed in the literature, dominates close to the threshold while the diffractive component takes over for larger energies. The diffractive component is calculated based on two-gluon impact factors as well as in the framework of Khoze-Martin-Ryskin approach proposed for diffractive Higgs boson production. Different unintegrated gluon distribution functions (UGDFs) from the literature are used. The production of $f_0(1500)$ close to threshold could limit the so-called $πNN$ form factor in the region of larger pion virtualities.

Inclusive photon production and photon-jet correlations in hadronic collisions

We compare results of $k_t$-factorization approach and next-to-leading order collinear-factorization approach for photon-jet correlations in $pp$ and $p \bar p$ collisions at RHIC, Tevatron and LHC energies. We discuss correlations in azimuthal angle between photon and jet as well as correlations in two-dimensional space of photon and jet transverse momenta. Different unintegrated gluon/parton distributions are used in the $k_t$-factorization approach. The results depend on UGDF/UPDF used. The collinear NLO $2 \to 3$ contributions dominate over $k_t$-factorization cross section at small relative azimuthal angles as well as for asymmetric transverse momentum configurations.

Dijet and photon-jet correlations in proton-proton collisions at RHIC

We discuss correlations in azimuthal angle as well as correlations in two-dimensional space of transverse momenta of two jets as well as photon and jet. Some $k_t$-factorization subprocesses are included for the first time in the literature.

Diffractive production of quarkonia

I discuss two selected examples of diffractive production of quarkonia: $p p \to p η' p$ and $p p \to p J/ψp$. In the first case I consider diffractive pQCD approach and $γγ$ fusion, in the second case the amplitude is linked to the amplitude of the process for $J/ψ$ photoproduction at HERA. Absorption effects are discussed briefly for the second reaction.

$η'$ production in proton-proton collisions far from the threshold

I discuss exclusive production of the $η'$ meson in the $pp \to pη'p$ reaction far from the threshold. The contribution of diffractive component as well as that for $γ^* γ^* \to η'$ fusion are calculated. In the first case the formalism of unintegrated gluon distribution functions (UGDF) is used. The distributions in the Feynman $x_F$ (or rapidity), transferred four-momenta squared between initial and final protons ($t_1$, $t_2$) and azimuthal angle difference between outgoing protons ($Φ$) are calculated. The deviations from the $\sin^2(Φ)$ dependence predicted by one-step vector-vector-pseudoscalar coupling are quantified and discussed. The results are compared with the results of the WA102 collaboration at CERN. Most of the models of UGDF from the literature give too small cross section as compared to the WA102 data and predict angular distribution in relative azimuthal angle strongly asymmetric with respect to $π/2$ in disagreement with the WA102 data. This points to a different mechanism at the WA102 energy. Predictions for RHIC, Tevatron and LHC are given.

Dijet correlations at RHIC, leading-order $k_t$-factorization approach versus next-to-leading order collinear approach

We compare results of $k_t$-factorization approach and next-to-leading order collinear-factorization approach for dijet correlations in proton-proton collisions at RHIC energies. We discuss correlations in azimuthal angle as well as correlations in two-dimensional space of transverse momenta of two jets. Some $k_t$-factorization subprocesses are included for the first time in the literature. Different unintegrated gluon/parton distributions are used in the $k_t$-factorization approach. The results depend on UGDF/UPDF used. For collinear NLO case the situation depends significantly on whether we consider correlations of any two jets or correlations of leading jets only. In the first case the $2 \to 2$ contributions associated with soft radiations summed up in the $k_t$-factorization approach dominate at $ϕ\sim π$ and at equal moduli of jet transverse momenta. The collinear NLO $2 \to 3$ contributions dominate over $k_t$-factorization cross section at small relative azimuthal angles as well as for asymmetric transverse momentum configurations. In the second case the NLO contributions vanish at small relative azimuthal angles and/or large jet transverse-momentum disbalance due to simple kinematical constraints. There are no such limitations for the $k_t$-factorization approach. All this makes the two approaches rather complementary. The role of several cuts is discussed and quantified.

Photon-jet correlations in $pp$ and $p \bar p$ collisions

We compare results of the $k_t$-factorization approach and the next-to-leading order collinear-factorization approach for photon-jet correlations in $pp$ and $p \bar p$ collisions at RHIC and Tevatron energies. We discuss correlations in the azimuthal angle as well as in the two-dimensional space of transverse momentum of photon and jet. Different unintegrated parton distributions (UPDF) are included in the $k_t$-factorization approach. The results depend on UPDFs used. The standard collinear approach gives cross section comparable to the $k_t$-factorization approach. For correlations of the photon and any jet the NLO contributions dominate at relatively small azimuthal angles as well as for asymmetric transverse momenta. For correlations of the photon with the leading jet (the one having the biggest transverse momentum) the NLO approach gives zero contribution at $ϕ_{-} < π/2$ which opens a possibility to study higher-order terms and/or UPDFs in this region.

Central meson production in diffractive reactions

I discuss double-diffractive (double-elastic) production of the $η'$ and $η_c$ mesons in the $pp \to p X p$ reaction within the formalism of unintegrated gluon distribution functions (UGDF). The contribution of $γ^* γ^* \to η'$ fusion is estimated. The distributions in the Feynman $x_F$ (or rapidity), transferred four-momenta squared between initial and final protons ($t_1$, $t_2$) and azimuthal angle difference between outgoing protons ($Φ$) are calculated and discussed. The results are compared with the WA102 data. Predictions at higher energies are presented.
