Quark number holonomy and confinement-deconfinement transition

We propose a new quantity which describes the confinement-deconfinement transition based on topological properties of QCD. The quantity which we call the quark number holonomy is defined as the integral of the quark number susceptibility along the closed loop of $θ$ where $θ$ is the dimensionless imaginary chemical potential. Expected behavior of the quark number holonomy at finite temperature is discussed and its asymptotic behaviors are shown.

Hadron-Hadron Correlation and Interaction from Heavy-Ion Collisions

We investigate the $ΛΛ$ and $K^-p$ intensity correlations in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. First, we examine the dependence of the $ΛΛ$ correlation on the $ΛΛ$ interaction and the $ΛΛ$ pair purity probability $λ$. For small $λ$, the correlation function needs to be suppressed by the $ΛΛ$ interaction in order to explain the recently measured $ΛΛ$ correlation data. By comparison, when we adopt the $λ$ value evaluated from the experimentally measured $Σ^0/Λ$ ratio, the correlation function needs to be enhanced by the interaction. We demonstrate that these two cases correspond to the two analyses which gave opposite signs of the $ΛΛ$ scattering length. Next, we discuss the $K^-p$ correlation function. By using the local $\bar{K}N$ potential which reproduces the kaonic hydrogen data by SIDDHARTA, we obtain the $K^-p$ correlation function. We find that the $K^-p$ correlation can provide a complementary information with the $K^{-}p$ elastic scattering amplitude.

Entropy production from chaoticity in Yang-Mills field theory with use of the Husimi function

We investigate possible entropy production in Yang-Mills (YM) field theory by using a quantum distribution function called Husimi function $f_{\rm H}(A, E, t)$ for YM field, which is given by a coarse graining of Wigner function and non-negative. We calculate the Husimi-Wehrl (HW) entropy $S_{\rm HW}(t)=-{\rm Tr}f_H \log f_H$ defined as an integral over the phase-space, for which two adaptations of the test-particle method are used combined with Monte-Carlo method. We utilize the semiclassical approximation to obtain the time evolution of the distribution functions of the YM field, which is known to show a chaotic behavior in the classical limit. We also make a simplification of the multi-dimensional phase-space integrals by making a product ansatz for the Husimi function, which is found to give a 10-20 per cent over estimate of the HW entropy for a quantum system with a few degrees of freedom. We show that the quantum YM theory does exhibit the entropy production, and that the entropy production rate agrees with the sum of positive Lyapunov exponents or the Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy, suggesting that the chaoticity of the classical YM field causes the entropy production in the quantum YM theory.

Approaches to QCD phase diagram; effective models, strong-coupling lattice QCD, and compact stars

The outline of the two lectures given in "Dense Matter School 2015" is presented. After an overview on the relevance of the phase diagram to heavy-ion collisions and compact star phenomena, I show some basic formulae to discuss the QCD phase diagram in the mean field treatment of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. Next, I introduce the strong-coupling lattice QCD, which is one of the promising methods to access the QCD phase diagram including the first order phase boundary. In the last part, I discuss the QCD phase diagram in asymmetric matter, which should be formed in compact star phenomena.

Lambda-Lambda interaction from two-particle intensity correlation in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

We investigate $ΛΛ$ interaction dependence of the $ΛΛ$ intensity correlation in high-energy heavy-ion collisions. By analyzing the correlation data recently obtained by the STAR collaboration based on theoretically proposed $ΛΛ$ interactions, we give a constraint on the $ΛΛ$ scattering length, $-1.25~\text{fm} < a_0 < 0$, suggesting that $ΛΛ$ interaction is weakly attractive and there is no loosely bound state. In addition to the fermionic quantum statistics and the $ΛΛ$ interaction, effects of collective flow, feed-down from $Σ^0$, and the residual source are also found to be important to understand the data. We demonstrate that the correlation data favor negative $ΛΛ$ scattering length with the pair purity parameter $λ=(0.67)^2$ evaluated by using experimental data on the $Σ^0/Λ$ ratio, while the positive scattering length could be favored when we regard $λ$ as a free fitting parameter.

Preweighting method in Monte-Carlo sampling with complex action --- Strong-Coupling Lattice QCD with $1/g^2$ corrections, as an example ---

We investigate the QCD phase diagram in the strong-coupling lattice QCD with fluctuation and $1/g^2$ effects by using the auxiliary field Monte-Carlo simulations. The complex phase of the Fermion determinant at finite chemical potential is found to be suppressed by introducing a complex shift of integral path for one of the auxiliary fields, which corresponds to introducing a repulsive vector mean field for quarks. The obtained phase diagram in the chiral limit shows suppressed $T_c$ in the second order phase transition region compared with the strong-coupling limit results. We also argue that we can approximately guess the statistical weight cancellation from the complex phase in advance in the case where the complex phase distribution is Gaussian. We demonstrate that correct expectation values are obtained by using this guess in the importance sampling (preweighting).

Does non-monotonic behavior of directed flow signal the onset of deconfinement?

We investigate the effects of nuclear mean-field as well as the formation and decay of nuclear clusters on the directed flow $v_1$ in high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions from $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=7.7$ GeV to 27 GeV incident energies within a transport model. Specifically, we use the JAM transport model in which potentials are implemented based on the framework of the relativistic quantum molecular dynamics. Our approach reproduces the rapidity dependence of directed flow data up to $\sqrt{s_{NN}}\approx 8$ GeV showing the significant importance of mean-field. However, the slopes of $dv_1/dy$ at mid-rapidity are calculated to be positive at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=11.7$ and 19.6 GeV, and becomes negative above 27 GeV. Thus the result from the JAM hadronic transport model with nuclear mean-field approach is incompatible with the data. Therefore within our approach, we conclude that the excitation function of the directed flow cannot be explained by the hadronic degree of freedom alone.

Parametric Instability of Classical Yang-Mills Fields in an Expanding Geometry

We investigate the instability of classical Yang-Mills field in an expanding geometry under a color magnetic background field within the linear regime. We consider homogeneous, boost-invariant and time-dependent color magnetic fields simulating the glasma configuration. We introduce the conformal coordinates which enable us to map an expanding problem approximately into a nonexpanding problem. We find that the fluctuations with finite longitudinal momenta can grow exponentially due to parametric instability. Fluctuations with finite transverse momenta can also show parametric instability, but their momenta are restricted to be small. The most unstable modes start to grow exponentially in the early stage of the dynamics and they may affect the thermalization in heavy-ion collisions.

Study of entropy production in Yang-Mills theory with use of Husimi function

Understanding the thermalization process in a pure quantum system is a challenge in theoretical physics. In this work, we explore possible thermalization mechanism in Yang-Mills(YM) theory by using a positive semi-definite quantum distribution function called a Husimi function which is given by a coarse graining of the Wigner function within the minimum uncertainty. Then entropy is defined in terms of the Husimi function, which is called the Husimi-Wehrl(HW) entropy. We propose two numerical methods to calculate the HW entropy. We find that it is feasible to apply the semi-classical approximation with the use of classical YM equation. It should be noted that the semi-classical approximation is valid in the systems of physical interest including the early stage of heavy-ion collisions. Using a product ansatz for the Husimi function, which is confirmed to reproduce the HW entropy within 20% error (overestimate) for a few-body quantum system, we succeed in a numerical evaluation of HW entropy of YM fields and show that it surely has a finite value and increases in time.

Entropy production in quantum Yang-Mills mechanics in semi-classical approximation

We discuss thermalization of isolated quantum systems by using the Husimi-Wehrl entropy evaluated in the semiclassical treatment. The Husimi-Wehrl entropy is the Wehrl entropy obtained by using the Husimi function for the phase space distribution. The time evolution of the Husimi function is given by smearing the Wigner function, whose time evolution is obtained in the semiclassical approximation. We show the efficiency and usefullness of this semiclassical treatment in describing entropy production of a couple of quantum mechanical systems, whose classical counter systems are known to be chaotic. We propose two methods to evaluate the time evolution of the Husimi-Wehrl entropy, the test-particle method and the two-step Monte-Carlo method. We demonstrate the characteristics of the two methods by numerical calculations, and show that the simultaneous application of the two methods ensures the reliability of the results of the Husimi-Wehrl entropy at a given time.

Topological feature and phase structure of QCD at complex chemical potential

The pseudo-critical temperature of the confinement-deconfinement transition and the phase transition surface are investigated by using the complex chemical potential. We can interpret the imaginary chemical potential as the Aharonov-Bohm phase, then the analogy of the topological order suggests that the Roberge-Weiss endpoint would define the pseudo-critical temperature. The behavior of the Roberge-Weiss endpoint at small real quark chemical potential is investigated with the perturbative expansion. The expected QCD phase diagram at complex chemical potential is presented.

Net baryon number fluctuations across the chiral phase transition at finite density in the strong coupling lattice QCD

We investigate the net-baryon number fluctuations across the chiral phase transition at finite density in the strong coupling and chiral limit. Mesonic field fluctuations are taken into account by using the auxiliary field Monte-Carlo method. We find that the higher-order cumulant ratios, $Sσ$ and $κσ^2$, show oscillatory behavior around the phase boundary at $μ/T\gtrsim 0.2$, and there exists the region where the higher-order cumulant ratios are negative. The negative region of $κσ^2$ is found to shrink with increasing lattice size. This behavior agrees with the expectations from the scaling analysis.

Parametric instability of classical Yang-Mills fields in a color magnetic background

We investigate instabilities of classical Yang-Mills fields in a time-dependent spatially homogeneous color magnetic background field in a non-expanding geometry for elucidating the earliest stage dynamics of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The background gauge field configuration considered in this article is spatially homogeneous and temporally periodic, and is alluded by Berges-Scheffler-Schlichting-Sexty (BSSS). We discuss the whole structure of instability bands of fluctuations around the BSSS background gauge field on the basis of Floquet theory, which enables us to discuss the stability in a systematic way. We find various instability bands on the $(p_z, p_T)$-plane. These instability bands are caused by parametric resonance despite the fact that the momentum dependence of the growth rate for $|\mathbf{p}| \leq \sqrt{B}$ is similar to a Nielsen-Olesen instability. Moreover, some of instability bands are found to emerge not only in the low momentum but also in the high momentum region; typically of the order of the saturation momentum as $|\mathbf{p}| \sim \sqrt{B} \sim Q_{\rm s}$.

Fluctuation effects on QCD phase diagram at strong coupling

We study the QCD phase diagram away from the strong coupling limit (SCL) with fluctuation effects in the auxiliary field Monte-Carlo (AFMC) method. First, we give an effective action which contains next-to-leading order (NLO) finite coupling effects of the strong coupling expansion as well as fluctuation effects. Second, we examine NLO effects of the strong coupling expansion in AFMC at zero quark density. We find that the chiral condensate is reduced by both NLO terms from temporal plaquettes and fluctuation effects, and almost no dependence on NLO terms from spatial plaquettes in the current analysis. These behaviors can be understood from the modification of the mass and the wave function renormalization factor by auxiliary fields as in the mean field analysis and the fluctuation effects in the strong coupling limit.

Lambda-Lambda interaction from relativistic heavy-ion collisions

We investigate the two-particle intensity correlation function of $Λ$ in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. We find that the behavior of the $ΛΛ$ correlation function at small relative momenta is fairly sensitive to the interaction potential and collective flows. By comparing the results of different source functions and potentials, we explore the effect of intrinsic collective motions on the correlation function. We find that the recent STAR data gives a strong constraint on the scattering length and effective range of $ΛΛ$ interaction as, $-1.8 \mathrm{fm}^{-1} < 1/a_0 < -0.8 \mathrm{fm}^{-1}$ and $3.5 \mathrm{fm} < r_\mathrm{eff} < 7 \mathrm{fm}$, respectively,if $Λ$ samples do not include feed-down contribution from long-lived particles. We find that feed-down correction for $Σ^0$ decay reduces the sensitivity of the correlation function to the detail of the $ΛΛ$ interaction. As a result, we obtain a weaker constraint $1/a_0 <-0.8$ fm$^{-1}$. Implication for the signal of existence of $H$-dibaryon is discussed. Comparison with the scattering parameters obtained from the double $Λ$ hypernucleus may reveal in-medium effects in the $ΛΛ$ interaction.

Time evolution of gluon coherent state and its von Neumann entropy in heavy-ion collisions

We propose a new prescription for evaluating a von Neumann entropy in the initial stage of high-energy heavy-ion collisions utilizing the time evolution of classical Yang-Mills (CYM) field: The von Neumann entropy is computed for the quantum coherent states constructed so as to give the classical gluon fields as the expectation values. The entropy is to be liberated when the complete decoherence is achieved. As a demonstration, the time evolution of the CYM dynamics is solved with an initial condition which mimics the Glasma state, though in a non-expanding geometry; the Glasma state is characterized by the longitudinal color-electric and -magnetic fields with gluon fields' fluctuations around it. We find that the initial longitudinal fluctuations of the fields play essential roles for the entropy production in two ways: First, the field fluctuations at $t=0$ themselves act as a source of the von Neumann entropy prepared before the time evolution. Second, the initial fluctuations triggers field instabilities, and hence the larger the strength of them, the more the entropy production at later time.

Auxiliary field Monte-Carlo simulation of strong coupling lattice QCD for QCD phase diagram

We study the QCD phase diagram in the strong coupling limit with fluctuation effects by using the auxiliary field Monte-Carlo method. We apply the chiral angle fixing technique in order to obtain finite chiral condensate in the chiral limit in finite volume. The behavior of order parameters suggests that chiral phase transition is the second order or crossover at low chemical potential and the first order at high chemical potential. Compared with the mean field results, the hadronic phase is suppressed at low chemical potential, and is extended at high chemical potential as already suggested in the monomer-dimer-polymer simulations. We find that the sign problem originating from the bosonization procedure is weakened by the phase cancellation mechanism; a complex phase from one site tends to be canceled by the nearest neighbor site phase as long as low momentum auxiliary field contributions dominate.

EOSDB: The Database for Nuclear EoS

Nuclear equation of state (EoS) plays an important role in understanding the formation of compact objects such as neutron stars and black holes. The true nature of the EoS has been a matter of debate at any density range not only in the nuclear physics but also in the astronomy and astrophysics. We have constructed a database of EoSs by compiling data from the literature. Our database contains the basic properties of the nuclear EoS of symmetric nuclear matter and of pure neutron matter. It also includes the detailed information about the theoretical models, for example the adopted methods and assumptions in individual models. The novelty of the database is to consider new experimental probes such as the symmetry energy, its slope relative to the baryon density, and the incompressibility, which enables the users to check their model dependences. We demonstrate the performance of the EOSDB through the examinations of the model dependence among different nuclear EoSs. It is reveled that some theoretical EoSs, which is commonly used in astrophysics, do not satisfactorily agree with the experimental constraints.
