A problem related to some Green functions found by Guimarães and Linet in the manifold of a straight cosmic string continued in the Rindler space is investigated.

Relativistic elastic shells: material support and cavity geometry

We derive the source moments that determine the leading tidal field and rotational clock shift inside a finite-thickness relativistic elastic shell. In weak gravity and slow rotation, these moments depend on the elastic response of the material and its two free vacuum faces. Two choices of elastic moduli, each causal near relaxation, give opposite signs for both observables. Both shells have oblate faces and gain rotational mass. The tide depends on differential flattening, bulk deformation, and rotational stress and energy; the central clock shift measures a distinct inverse-radius moment. A single constitutive action determines the material support and response. Nonnegative isotropic pressure cannot support a static spherical shell of positive-density matter with two free vacuum faces, whereas tangential elastic stress admits equilibria near relaxation. For sufficiently weak gravity these equilibria obey the dominant energy condition and have subluminal sound speeds. Their static cavities are locally flat, with clocks redshifted relative to infinity. At leading weak-gravity order, static redshift and linear frame dragging probe the same inverse-radius mass moment. Energy estimates establish radial linear stability and exclude exponentially growing odd-parity modes for weakly gravitating spherical equilibria. Nonlinear compression can nevertheless produce unbounded gradients while the material remains causal. Nonspherical even-parity and rotating stability, together with quantitative bounds at finite rotation, remain open. The cavity observables distinguish material responses that surface shape and total mass alone do not determine.

Bridging the chirp-mass gap: searching for gravitational waves from inspiraling subsolar-mass ultra-compact binaries using LIGO O4ab data

Gravitational-wave searches for subsolar-mass compact binaries have left a gap between the planetary-mass regime accessible to long-duration searches and the higher masses probed by conventional compact-binary analyses. We close this gap by searching for the inspiral of ultra-compact binaries with chirp masses $10^{-2}$--$10^{-1}\,M_\odot$ in LIGO O4ab data. Using the statistically robust BinaryGFH-v2 method, a time-frequency technique to search for rapidly evolving inspirals lasting minutes to hours, we cover this previously challenging parameter space with a computational cost of only $\sim 350$ CPU-hours, and find no significant candidates. We thus set 90\% confidence upper limits on the binary merger-rate density, providing the first gravitational-wave constraints across this chirp-mass range. Assuming that primordial-black-hole binaries formed in the early Universe with no binary suppression ($f_{\rm sup}=1$), these results provide the first gravitational-wave constraints on the primordial-black-hole \dmh fraction in this mass range, yielding upper limits with $f_{\rm PBH}<1$ for equal-mass binaries with component masses $10^{-2}$--$10^{-1}\,M_\odot$ and asymmetric binaries with secondary masses $m_2=3\times10^{-4}$--$10^{-2}\,M_\odot$ for a primary mass $m_1=2.5\,M_\odot$.

Extending the Love-Q Relation to Rapidly Rotating Neutron Stars for Gravitational-Waveform Modelling

Gravitational-wave observations of binary neutron star mergers probe the neutron star equation of state through finite-size effects on the waveform. These include the tidal deformation of the stars due to their respective companion, but for spinning neutron stars also include the spin-induced quadrupole moment of the stars. Typically, to avoid introducing additional equation of state dependent parameters, waveform models relate this quadrupole moment to the tidal deformability through so-called quasi-universal relations. These are derived under the slow-rotation approximation, which at larger spins, i.e., for millisecond pulsars, becomes unreliable. We attempt to extend the existing quasi-universal relations by explicitly accounting for the spin, calibrating it against numerically computed quadrupole moments across a broad set of equations of state and spins $0.15 \leq |χ| \leq 0.6$ with the $χ\rightarrow 0$ limit enforced by construction. The resulting spin-extended relation reduces the median absolute percentage error relative to the slow-rotation relation by 66\% across this range. Parameter estimation using the spin-extended relation reduces biases in recovered intrinsic parameters in some cases, though biases from mass-spin degeneracies dominate largely when a population is considered. These results provide a more accurate description of the spin-induced quadrupole moment for spinning neutron star binaries, relevant for waveform modelling with third-generation gravitational-wave detectors.
