Determination of $U$-spin breaking parameters with an amplitude analysis of the decay $D^{0}\to K_{\text{S},\text{L}}^{0}π^{+}π^{-}$

Abstract

We perform a simultaneous amplitude analysis of the decays $D^0 \to K_{\text{S}}^{0}π^{+}π^{-}$ and $D^0 \to K_{\text{L}}^{0}π^{+}π^{-}$ using an $e^+e^-$ collision data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $20.3\,\text{fb}^{-1}$, collected at the centre-of-mass energy of $3.773\,\text{GeV}$ with the BESIII detector. This study, based on a significantly larger dataset than that used in previous work, presents an updated measurement of the complex $U$-spin breaking parameters ($\hatρ$) associated with various $CP$ eigenstate resonant modes mediating the three-body decays. The magnitudes of the $\hatρ$ parameters range from $0.62$ to $4.45$, indicating substantial $U$-spin symmetry breaking. We also report the resonant fit fraction and obtain a model prediction for the average strong-phase parameters over regions of phase space for both decay modes.

Search for the charmonium weak decay $ψ(2S)\to D_s^-π^+ + c.c.$ and $ψ(2S)\to D_s^-ρ^+ + c.c.$

Using the data sample of $(2712.4\pm14.3)\times 10^6$ $ψ(2S)$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=3.686\ \rm{GeV}$, we search for the weak decays $ψ(2S)\to D_s^-π^+ + c.c.$ and $ψ(2S)\to D_s^-ρ^+ + c.c.$ for the first time. Since no signal excess above the background is observed, the upper limits on the branching fractions at the 90\% confidence level are set to be $1.4\times 10^{-6}$ and $7.0\times 10^{-6}$ for $ψ(2S)\to D_s^-π^+ + c.c.$ and $ψ(2S)\to D_s^-ρ^+ + c.c.$, respectively.

Enhancing Event Reconstruction in Hyper-Kamiokande with Machine Learning: A ResNet Implementation

The forthcoming Hyper-Kamiokande experiment is expected to achieve unprecedented sensitivity to neutrino oscillations. Meeting these precision goals requires substantially larger Monte Carlo datasets than previous experiments to satisfy stringent systematic-uncertainty requirements. While traditional maximum-likelihood reconstruction provides high-quality event reconstruction, its per-event computational cost makes reconstruction of large, systematically varied Monte Carlo samples increasingly impractical. We demonstrate a neural-network-based reconstruction approach for the Hyper-Kamiokande far detector using simulated data with the experiment's detector geometry. Single-particle events are generated with kinetic energies from the Cherenkov threshold up to 2 GeV above threshold. The resulting PMT charge and timing information are mapped to $274\times144$ five-channel images that serve as inputs to ResNet models in the WatChMaL framework. These models (i) classify events into four particle hypotheses ($e$, $μ$, $γ$, $π^{0}$) and (ii) regress the interaction vertex, direction, and momentum of electrons and muons. The regression models achieve momentum resolutions of $1.27\%$ for muons and $2.21\%$ for electrons, angular resolutions of $0.91^\circ$ and $1.60^\circ$, and vertex resolutions of $13.6\,\mathrm{cm}$ and $17.0\,\mathrm{cm}$, better than those reported for traditional methods. The classifier improves $e$-$μ$, $e$-$γ$, and $e$-$π^{0}$ separation relative to the traditional baseline, with ROC AUC values of $0.9999995$, $0.642$, and $0.9659$. Our networks achieve inference times of 1-2 ms per event on a single GPU, yielding speed-ups of $3.2\times10^{4}$-$5.2\times10^{4}$ relative to likelihood-based reconstruction.

\textbf{\textsc{HepUKE}}: Uncertainty-aware Knowledge Evolution for High Energy Physics Analysis Agents

Knowledge bases are essential to agents for high energy physics (HEP), supplying few-shot evidence for previously unseen tasks. Their principal utility lies in strategic guidance for novel analyses rather than ready-made answers or reusable code. Prevailing systems, however, treat all retrieved evidence as equally trustworthy and fail to accrue knowledge from the analyses under assistance. In this paper, inspired by the standard HEP treatment of uncertainty, we propose \textbf{\textsc{\underline{HepUKE}}}: an \textbf{\underline{U}}ncertainty-aware \textbf{\underline{K}}nowledge \textbf{\underline{E}}volution system for \textbf{\underline{HEP}} that repurposes information entropy to unify statistical uncertainty from LLM generation and systematic uncertainty from HEP methodological choices. Upon it, we construct a self-evolving domain-specific-language (DSL) knowledge base and release a large-scale expert-annotated HEP physics-analysis benchmark. Per-evidence confidence is quantified via the information entropy of sampled DSL generations: high-confidence precedents constrain program synthesis, whereas analyses lacking close precedents are validated and written back, sustaining continual knowledge evolution. To handle the highly redundant yet logically stringent nature of HEP knowledge, we introduce an early-stopping controller that fuses a backward stationarity test on the answer posterior with a forward marginal information gain estimate. On the 1,000-pair BESIII PhysicsQA benchmark, HepUKE reduces retrieval rounds by 43.0\% while preserving most answer quality, and on the out-of-domain HotpotQA benchmark, it reduces retrieval rounds by 14.5\% with a similar quality--efficiency trade-off.
