Coronae of relatively hyperbolic groups and coarse cohomologies

Abstract

We construct a corona of a relatively hyperbolic group by blowing-up all parabolic points of its Bowditch boundary. We relate the $K$-homology of the corona with the $K$-theory of the Roe algebra, via the coarse assembly map. We also establish a dual theory, that is, we relate the $K$-theory of the corona with the $K$-theory of the reduced stable Higson corona via the coarse co-assembly map. For that purpose, we formulate generalized coarse cohomology theories. As an application, we give an explicit computation of the $K$-theory of the Roe-algebra and that of the reduced stable Higson corona of the fundamental groups of closed 3-dimensional manifolds and of pinched negatively curved complete Riemannian manifolds with finite volume.

Quantum CW-complexes in a Waldhausen category for unital C*-algebras

Using the ring structure of the K-groups of finite CW-complexes, Atiyah and Todd unravelled the K-theory of complex projective spaces $CP^n$. Herein, in the realm of noncommutative topology, we develop a new framework of finite quantum CW-complexes using the language of Waldhausen categories, which allows us to enrich the class of standard morphisms between unital C*-algebras by adding inverses of *-homomorphisms that are isomorphisms in K-theory. Our concept of quantum CW-complexes subsumes earlier constructions and enjoys a plethora of examples. Moreover, the framework allows us to reduce problems concerning the multipushout quantum complex projective space $CP^n_H$ to the much more approachable setting of the Vaksman-Soibelman quantum complex projective space $CP^n_q$ enjoying the availability of graph-algebraic methods. In particular, these methods permit us to transport the ring structure from $K^0(CP^n)$ to $K^0(CP_q^n)$. Finally, we adapt the formalism of Waldhausen categories to determine a natural set of free generators of $K^0(CP_H^n)$ from a natural set of free generators of $K^0(CP_q^n)$, and to transport the ring structure from $K^0(CP_q^n)$ to $K^0(CP_H^n)$.

The Oka principle for \'etale Chow groups

The celebrated theorems of Shilov, Arens--Royden, and Forster give direct descriptions of the first three integral cohomology groups of the Gelfand spectrum of a commutative complex Banach algebra. In his 1974 ICM address, Taylor asked whether the higher cohomology groups admit descriptions in terms of the underlying ring. We give a solution to this question in even degrees: The \'etale (aka Lichtenbaum) Chow group in every codimension is canonically isomorphic to the corresponding even integral cohomology group of the Gelfand spectrum.

General linear and Steinberg groups over the Leavitt algebra $L_{\mathbb F_2}(1,2)$

Let $R=L_{\F_2}(1,2)$. We prove that $\GL_r(R)$ is integrally acyclic for every $r\geq1$ and that the canonical map $\St_r(R)\to\GL_r(R)$ is an isomorphism for every $r\geq3$. The homology calculation combines simultaneous extensions of ordered frames with scalar actions of the multiplicative groups of finite fields on their stabilizers. The presentation associated with the same frame complex defines a surjective section of the Steinberg map. An explicit finite presentation of $R^\times$ then follows from the theorem of Krstić and McCool. We formulate separate criteria for acyclicity and for the Steinberg comparison over other rings.
