On the covariant relativistic separable kernel

Two different methods of the covariant relativistic separable kernel construction in the Bethe-Salpeter approach are considered. One of them leads in the center-of-mass system of two particles to the quasipotential equation. The constructed 4-dimensional covariant functions are used to reproduce neutron-proton phase shifts for total angular momenta $J=0,1$. Obtained results are compared with other model calculations.

Extended Optical Model Analyses of Elastic Scattering and Fusion Cross Section Data for the 9Be+28Si, 144Sm, and 208Pb Systems at Near-Coulomb-Barrier Energies using Double Folding Potential

Based on the extended optical model with the double folding potential, in which the polarization potential is decomposed into direct reaction (DR) and fusion parts, simultaneous $χ^{2}$ analyses are performed of elastic scattering and fusion cross section data for the $^{9}$Be+$^{28}$Si, $^{144}$Sm, and $^{208}$Pb systems at near-Coulomb-barrier energies. We find that the real part of the resultant DR part of the polarization potential is systematically repulsive for all the targets considered, which is consistent with the results deduced from the Continuum Discretized Coupled Channel (CDCC) calculations taking into account the polarization effects due to breakup. Further, it is found that both DR and fusion parts of the extracted polarization potentials satisfy the dispersion relation.

Analysis of parity nonconservation in the Ra+-ion

We report on a theoretical analysis of the suitability of the 7s 2S1/2 <-> 6d 2D3/2 transition in singly ionized radium to measure parity nonconservation, in the light of an experiment planned at the KVI of the University of Groningen. Relativistic coupled-cluster theory has been employed to perform an ab initio calculation of the parity nonconserving electric dipole amplitude of this transition, including single, double, and leading triple excitations. We discuss the prospects for a sub-1% precision test of the electroweak theory of particle physics.

Evidence for a narrow N(1685) resonance in eta photoproduction off the nucleon

Revised analysis of Sigma beam asymmetry for eta photoproduction off the free proton from GRAAL is presented. New analysis reveals a narrow structure near W ~1.685 GeV. We describe this structure by the contribution of a narrow resonance with quantum numbers P_{11}, or P_{13}, or D_{13}. Being considered together with the recent observations of a bump-like structure at W~1.68 GeV in the quasi-free eta photoproduction off the neutron, this result provides an evidence for a narrow (Gamma < 25 MeV) N*(1685) resonance. Properties of this possible new nucleon state, namely the mass, the narrow width, and the much stronger photocoupling to the neutron, are similar to those predicted for the non-strange member of anti-decouplet of exotic baryons.

Wigner symmetry, Large Nc and Renormalized One Boson Exchange Potential

Wigner symmetry in Nuclear Physics provides a unique example of a non-perturbative long distance symmetry, a symmetry strongly broken at short distances. We analyse the consequences of such a concept within the framework of One Boson Exchange Potentials in NN scattering and keeping the leading Nc contributions. Phenomenologically successful relations between singlet 1S0 and triplet 3S1 scattering phase shifts are provided in the entire elastic region. We establish symmetry breaking relations among non-central phase shifts which are successfully fulfilled by even-L partial waves and strongly violated by odd-L partial waves, in full agreement with large Nc requirements.

Relations Involving Static Quadrupole Moments of $2^+$ states and B(E2)'s

We define the ``quadrupole ratio'' $r_Q = \dfrac{Q_0(S)}{Q_0(B)}$ where $Q_0(S)$ is the intrinsic quadrupole moment obtained from the static quadrupole moment of the $2_1^+$ state of an even-even nucleus and $Q_0(B)$ the intrinsic quadrupole moment obtained from $B(E2)_{0 \to 2}$. In both cases we assume a simple rotational formula connecting the rotating frame to the laboratory frame. The quantity $r_Q$ would be one if the rotational model were perfect and the energy ratio $E(4)/E(2)$ would be 10/3. In the simple vibrational model, $r_Q$ would be zero and $E(4)/E(2)$ would be two. There are some regions where the rotational limit is almost met and fewer where the vibrational limit is also almost met. For most cases, however, it is between these two limits, i.e. $0 < r_Q < 1$. There are a few cases where $r_Q$ is bigger than one, especially for light nuclei.

Shear Viscosity of a Non-Relativistic Conformal Gas in Two Dimensions

The shear viscosity, eta, of a fermi gas with non-relativistic conformal symmetry in two spatial dimensions is investigated. We find that eta/s, s being the entropy density, diverges as a gas of free particles in this system. It is in contrast to the eta/s=1/(4 pi) found using non-relativistic AdS/CFT correspondence, which requires a strongly interacting CFT. It implies the unitary fermi gas in two spatial dimensions is not likely to have a weakly interacting gravity dual.

Model independent results for nucleon structure

I review recent results regarding the nucleon charge and magnetization densities as well as the shape of the nucleon. First, some phenomenolgical considerations that show that the shape of the proton is not round are discussed. Then model independent results regarding the neutron and proton charge density, and the proton magnetization density are presented. Finally, I show how the spin-dependent densities that reveal the shape of the proton can be measured via their relation with transverse momentum distributions. The present work is made possible by the recent tremendous experimental progress made at Bates, Mainz and Jefferson Laboratory.

Computation of the number of neutrino events which can be registered in Borexino detector from the Sun neutrinos flux with energy $E_ν= 0.862 MeV$

This paper gives an estimation of the number of neutrinos which can be registered in Borexino detector from the Sun neutrinos generated in reaction $^{7}Be + e^{-} \to ^{7}Li + ν_e$ with energy $E_{ν_e} = 0.862 MeV$ in the absence of neutrino oscillations. This number is supposed be between $ N^{theor} = 86.45 ÷96.52 \frac{counters}{(day\cdot 100\quad ton)}$ in dependence on primary neutrino fluxes. Then ratios between number of neutrinos $N^{exper}$ registered in Borexino detector and counted numbers $N^{theor}$, are $\frac{N^{exper}}{N^{theor}} = 0.49 ÷0.54$. This value is close enough to the same value obtained in $^{71}Ga - ^{71}Ge$ experiments in the close energy regions. The value $\frac{N^{exper}}{N^{theor}}$ obtained at supposition that $θ_{1 3} \approx 0$ and absence of the resonance effect approximately equal to $\simeq 0.67$ and it is noticeably greater than the above value. Probably it means that the supposition that $θ_{1 3} \approx 0$ is not justified and there can be a definite deposit of $τ$ neutrinos.

Electric Polarizabilities from Lattice QCD

The response of hadrons to electromagnetic probes is highly constrained by chiral dynamics; but, in some cases, predictions have not compared well with experimental data. The lattice can be used to test the chiral electromagnetism of hadrons and ultimately confront experiment. We use background field techniques to study the electromagnetic polarizabilities of hadrons. Focusing on simulations in background electric fields, we present preliminary results for both charged and neutral particle polarizabilities. The former are extracted using a novel method.

The Parton Bubble Model(PBM) is Connected to the Glasma Flux Tube Model(GFTM), and predicts the Ridge and Strong CP violation

In an earlier paper we developed a Parton Bubble Model (PBM) for RHIC/LHC, based on a substructure of a ring of localized bubbles which initially contain 3-4 partons of almost entirely gluons. A Glasma Flux Tube Model (GFTM) which formed longitudinal flux tubes in the transverse plane of two colliding sheets of Color Glass Condensate (CGC) which pass through one another had been developed. These sheets create boost invariant flux tubes of longitudinal color electric and magnetic fields. A blast wave gives the tubes near the surface transverse flow in the same way it gave flow to the bubbles in the PBM. In this paper we connect the equivalent characteristics of the PBM to the GFTM and show that the intermediate transverse momentum charged-two-particle angular correlations of the most central and highest energy RHIC Au + Au collisions are explained. When one considers a 3-4 GeV/c transverse momentum tagged charged trigger particle in combination with other intermediate transverse momentum charged particles, the ridge correlation is generated and explained. The longitudinal color electric and magnetic fields of GFTM have a non-zero topological charge density $F \widetilde $F. These fields cause a local strong CP violation which effects charged particle production coming from quarks and anti-quarks created in the tube or bubble. We developed four-charged-particle correlations which show this CP effect and accumulate from bubble to bubble independent of whether particles are pushed or pulled and rotated in a right or left handed direction, We demonstrate strong evidence for the predicted color electric field using previously published experimental data. We developed 4 particle correlations for obtaining evidence for the predicted color magnetic field.

A simple model for NN correlations in quasielastic lepton-nucleus scattering

We present a covariant extension of the relativistic Fermi gas model which incorporates correlation effects in nuclei. Within this model, inspired by the BCS descriptions of systems of fermions, we obtain the nuclear spectral function and from it the superscaling function for use in treating high-energy quasielastic electroweak processes. Interestingly, this model has the capability to yield the asymmetric tail seen in the experimental scaling function.

Dominance of Sign Geometry and the Homogeneity of the Fundamental Topological Structure

We propose and support the possibility that the shape of topological density 2-point function in pure-glue QCD is crucially, and possibly entirely, determined by the space-time folding (geometry) of the double-sheet sign-coherent structure of Ref.[1], while the distribution of topological density within individual sheets only determines the overall magnitude of the correlator at finite physical distances. A specific manifestation of this, discussed here, is that the shape of the correlation function (encoding e.g. the masses of pseudoscalar glueballs) is reproduced upon the replacement q(x) -> sgn(q(x)), i.e. by considering the double sheet of the same space-time geometry but with constant magnitude of topological density. Combined with previous results on the fundamental topological structure, this suggests that a collective degree of freedom describing topological fluctuations of QCD vacuum can be viewed as a global space-filling homogeneous double membrane. Selected possibilities for practical uses of this are discussed.

Aspects of quantum phase transitions

A unified description of i) classical phase transitions and their remnants in finite systems and ii) quantum phase transitions is presented. The ensuing discussion relies on the interplay between, on the one hand, the thermodynamic concepts of temperature and specific heat and on the other, the quantal ones of coupling strengths in the Hamiltonian. Our considerations are illustrated in an exactly solvable model of Plastino and Moszkowski [Il Nuovo Cimento {\bf 47}, 470 (1978)].
