Chromoelectric response functions for quark-gluon plasma

We determine the chromoelectric response of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) systematically within the framework of classical transport equations. The transport equations are set up in the phase space which includes the SU(3) group space corresponding to color (which is a dynamical degree of freedom), in addition to the position - momentum variables. The distribution functions are defined by projecting the density operators for the quarks and the gluons to their respective coherent states (defined over the extended phase space). The full import of the Yang-Mills(YM) dynamics is shown to manifest through the emergence of an intrinsic nonlinear, nonlocal response, whose behavior we determine in the long wavelength limit. It also manifests as a tensor response which is a characteristic of gluons. The response functions are shown to have a natural interpretation in terms of the renormalizations of the Abelian and the non-Abelian coupling constants. A detailed analysis of the screening of heavy quark potential and of the exact role played by the Debye mass screening in the case of the Cornell potential, is performed. We also discuss the non-Abelian contribution to Landau damping in QGP.

The $ϕ$ - Meson Physics in the Chirial Model

The $ϕ\to K^+K^-,K^{0}_{L},K^{0}_{S},K^{0}\bar K^0$ decays are studied using the method of phenomenological chiral Lagrangians. Calculated values for partial widths for these decay channels are compared with available experimental data.

Opening Remarks at Chiral Dynamics 2006:Experimental Tests of Chiral Symmetry Breaking

A physical introduction to the basics of chiral dynamics is presented. Emphasis is placed on experimental tests which have generally demonstrated a strong confirmation of the predictions of chiral perturbation theory, a low energy effective field theory of QCD. Special attention is paid to a few cases where discrepancies exist, requiring further work. Some desirable future tests are also recommended.

Majorana neutrino. Is double neutrinoless beta decay possible in the framework of the weak interactions? How to prove that neutrino is Majorana particle

Usually it is supposed that Majorana neutrino produced in the superposition state $χ_L = ν_L + (ν_L)^c$ and then follows the neutrinoless double beta decay. But since weak interactions are chiral invariant then the neutrino at production has definite helicity (i.e., $ν_L$ and $(ν_L)^c$ neutrinos are separately produced and then neutrino is not in the superposition state). This helicity cannot change after production without any external interactions. Thus we see that for unsuitable helicity the neutrinoless double $β$ decay is not possible even if neutrino is a Majorana particle. Also transition of Majorana neutrino into antineutrino at their oscillations is forbidden since helicity in vacuum holds. Then only possibility to prove that neutrino is a Dirac but not Majorana particle is detection transition of $ν_L$ neutrino into (sterile) antineutrino $\barν_R$ (i.e., $ν_L \to \barν_R$) at neutrino oscillations. Transition Majora neutrino $ν_L$ into $(ν_R)^c$ (i.e., $ν_L \to (ν_R)^c$) at oscillations is unobserved since it is supposed that mass of $(ν_R)^c$ is very big.

Difference Equations in Massive Higher Order Calculations

The calculation of massive 2--loop operator matrix elements, required for the higher order Wilson coefficients for heavy flavor production in deeply inelastic scattering, leads to new types of multiple infinite sums over harmonic sums and related functions, which depend on the Mellin parameter $N$. We report on the solution of these sums through higher order difference equations using the summation package {\tt Sigma}.

On the Transfer of Adiabatic Fluctuations through a Nonsingular Cosmological Bounce

We study the transfer of cosmological perturbations through a nonsingular cosmological bounce in a special model in which the parameters of the bounce and the equation of state of matter are chosen such as to allow for an exact calculation of the evolution of the fluctuations. We find that the growing mode of the metric fluctuations in the contracting phase goes over into the growing mode in the expanding phase, a result which is different from what is obtained in analyses in which fluctuations are matched at a singular hypersurface. Consequences for Ekpyrotic cosmology are discussed in a limit when the equation of state of a fluid becomes large.

Greybody Factors for d-Dimensional Black Holes

Gravitational greybody factors are analytically computed for static, spherically symmetric black holes in d-dimensions, including black holes with charge and in the presence of a cosmological constant (where a proper definition of greybody factors for both asymptotically dS and AdS spacetimes is provided). This calculation includes both the low-energy case --where the frequency of the scattered wave is small and real-- and the asymptotic case --where the frequency of the scattered wave is very large along the imaginary axis-- addressing gravitational perturbations as described by the Ishibashi-Kodama master equations, and yielding full transmission and reflection scattering coefficients for all considered spacetime geometries. At low frequencies a general method is developed, which can be employed for all three types of spacetime asymptotics, and which is independent of the details of the black hole. For asymptotically dS black holes the greybody factor is different for even or odd spacetime dimension, and proportional to the ratio of the areas of the event and cosmological horizons. For asymptotically AdS black holes the greybody factor has a rich structure in which there are several critical frequencies where it equals either one (pure transmission) or zero (pure reflection, with these frequencies corresponding to the normal modes of pure AdS spacetime). At asymptotic frequencies the computation of the greybody factor uses a technique inspired by monodromy matching, and some universality is hidden in the transmission and reflection coefficients. For either charged or asymptotically dS black holes the greybody factors are given by non-trivial functions, while for asymptotically AdS black holes the greybody factor precisely equals one (corresponding to pure blackbody emission).

Indirect signals from braneworlds

It has been suggested that our universe could be a 3-dimensional brane where the SM fields live embedded in a D-dimensional space-time. In flexible raneworlds, in addition to the SM fields, new degrees of freedom appear on the brane associated to brane fluctuations. These new fields, known as branons, are standard WIMPs (Weakly Interacting Massive Particles) and therefore natural dark matter candidates, whose spontaneous annihilations can provide first evidences for this scenario.

Dark Matter Decaying Now

The instability of dark matter may produce visible signals in the spectrum of cosmic gamma-rays. We consider this possibility in frameworks with additional spatial dimensions and supersymmetry. Examples of particles include superweakly-interacting massive particles such as gravitinos in supersymmetry models, the lightest Kaluza-Klein (KK) state in models with universal extra dimensions, and weakly-interacting massive particles such as branons in flexible brane-worlds.

Comment on the paper "Energy Loss of Charm Quarks in the Quark-Gluon Plasma : Collisional vs Radiative"

In the article by M. G. Mustafa published in Phys. Rev. C {\bf 72}, 014905 (2005) the author has estimated the total energy loss of a charm quark and quenching of hadron spectra due to the collisional energy loss of energetic partons in an expanding quark-gluon plasma employing Fokker-Planck equation. We wish to point out through this Comment that some of conceptual and numerical results of the said paper are unreliable. For the sake of clarity our discussion will focus on the massless case (although a few remarks on the $m\neq 0$ case are also made).

Dispersive representation and shape of K_{l3} form factors

The Callan-Treiman low-energy theorem offers an opportunity to test electroweak couplings of light quarks to the gauge boson W. To that aim, we introduce a model-independent and accurate dispersive parametrization of the two K_{l3} form factors. We then discuss three applications to the analysis of K_{e3} and K_{mu3} measurements: the prediction of the ratios Gamma(K_{mu3})/Gamma(K_{e3}), the extraction of |f_+(0)V_{us}| and finally the possible measurement of m_u - m_d induced isospin breaking asymmetry.

Quark Mass dependence at Two Loops for Meson Properties

This talks contains a short introduction to Chiral Perturbation Theory and the existing calculations to two-loop order in the mesonic sector. I include a discussion on which quantities the expansion can be organized in. The present best values of the Low-Energy-Constants as determined from continuum physics are given as well as the assumptions underlying the fits to experimental data. I present plots of masses, decay constants and $f_+(0)$ in $K_{\ell3}$ as a function of quark or meson masses. The talk ends with a list of things for which it would be extremely useful to have good results from lattice QCD calculations.

Preliminary Results from MINOS on Muon Neutrino Disappearance Based on an Exposure of 2.5x10^20 120 GeV Protons on the NuMI Target

Updating our previous measurements with new data and analysis modifications, we report preliminary results on the energy-dependent deficit of muon neutrinos from the Fermilab NuMI beam as observed with the MINOS Far Detector located 735 km away in the Soudan Underground Laboratory. From an exposure of 2.50x10^20 protons on target, we observe 563 charged-current nu_mu interaction candidates in the Far Detector, where 738+/-30 events are expected in the absence of neutrino oscillations. We have analyzed these data assuming two-flavor nu_mu to nu_tau oscillations. From a simultaneous fit to the reconstructed nu_mu energy spectra obtained during two running periods we obtain the neutrino squared-mass difference Delta m_{32}^2 = (2.38 +0.20/-0.16) x 10^-3 eV^2/c^4 with errors at 68% confidence level (CL), and mixing angle sin^2(2 theta_23) > 0.84 at 90% CL. The uncertainties and confidence intervals include both statistical and systematic errors. All results and plots presented here are preliminary.

A Soft Interaction Model at Ultra High Energies: Amplitudes, Cross Sections and Survival Probabilities

In this paper we present a two channel model with the goal of reproducing the soft scattering data available in the ISR-Tevatron energy range, and extend the model results to LHC and Cosmic Rays energies. A characteristic feature of the model is that we represent the sum of all diffractive final states at a vertex, by a single diffractive state. Our two main results are: (i) The approach of the elastic scattering amplitude to the black disc bound is very slow, reaching it at energies far higher than the GZK ankle cutoff. (ii) Our predicted survival probability for Higgs exclusive central diffractive production at the LHC is 0.7%, which is considerably smaller than our previous estimate. The above features are compatible with a parton-like model in which the traditional soft Pomeron is replaced by an amplitude describing the partonic system, which issaturated in the soft (long distance) limit.
