Constraints on Neutralino masses and mixings from Cosmology and Collider Physics

Bounds on cross section measurements of chargino pair production at LEP yield a bound on the chargino mass. If the GUT relation is assumed, the lightest neutralino must be heavier than $\approx 45 -50\GeV$. If no GUT relation is assumed, no lower bound on the neutralino mass exists. I derive mass bounds on the lightest neutralino from relic density measurements for relativistic and non-relativistic neutralinos and I derive bounds on the selectron mass from the observed limits on the cross section of the neutralino pair production process $e^+e^-\to \x{1}\x{2}$ at LEP, if the lightest neutralino is massless. I further discuss radiative neutralino production and its background at the future ILC. Finally, I present a method to determine the neutralino couplings to right and left handed selectrons and Z bosons from cross section measurements of radiative neutralino production and neutralino pair production at the ILC.

Polarization aspects in radiative neutralino production

We study the impact of beam polarization on radiative neutralino production e+e- \to χ^0_1 χ^0_1 photon at the International Linear Collider. We show that longitudinal polarized beams significantly enhance the signal and simultaneously reduce the Standard Model background from radiative neutrino production e+e- \to ν\barνphoton. We point out that the radiative production of neutralinos could be the only accessible SUSY particles, if neutralinos, charginos, sleptons, as well as squarks and gluinos are too heavy to be pair-produced in the first stage of the ILC at sqrt{s} = 500 GeV.

Neutrino mixings and magnetic moments due to Planck scale effects

In this paper, we consider the effect of Planck scale operators on neutrino magnetic moments. We assume that the main part of neutrino masses and mixings arise through GUT scale operators. We further assume that additional discrete symmetries make the neutrino mixing bi-maximal. Quantum gravitational (Planck scale) effects lead to an effective $SU(2)_{L}\times U(1)$ invariant dimension-5 Lagrangian involving neutrino and Higgs fields, which gives rise to additional terms in neutrino mass matrix. These additional terms can be considered to be perturbation of the GUT scale bi-maximal neutrino mass matrix. We assume that the gravitational interaction is flavour blind and we study the neutrino mixings and magnetic moments due to the physics above the GUT scale.

Saturation model in the non-Glauber approach

In this paper a new saturation model is presented. This model is based on the theoretical solution for the generating functional, and it is quite different and not more complicated than the Glauber-like approach used before. The model describes the structure function F_{2} of the proton, as well as the diffractive structure function F_{2}^{D}. We show the difference between our model, and the eikonal approach by calculating the multiplicity distribution, using the AGK cutting rules strategy.

Some phenomenological considerations on the nuclear collisions at high energies

We present some results obtained by applying the chaos theory on the numerical study of one threedimensional, relativistic, many-body quark system. The asymptotic freedom property is introduced by employing a harmonic term in the bi-particle potential. In this context, we used also the outcome of a semiclassical study, applied to the quark constituents of nucleons. Depending on the initial temperature parameter, the system can evolve toward an oscillating or an expansion regime. It is important to notice also a transition region, characterized by a partial fragmentation (higher degree of order). This effect can be observed near the critical temperature and is related to the partial overcoming of the potential barrier (corresponding to the farthest particles from the system). The degree of fragmentation is defined on the Shannon entropy basis and using the graphs theory. For analyzing the expansion tendency of one relativistic many-body system, we employed also the virial coefficient.

Recent progress on supersymmetric effects in rare K decays

The dominant MSSM effects in the rare K decays, K+ --> pi+ nu nu bar, KL --> pi0 nu nu bar, KL --> pi0 e+ e- and KL --> pi0 mu+ mu-, are discussed both within and without the minimal flavor violation hypothesis, at moderate and large tangent beta. In each case, the sensitivities to MSSM soft-breaking terms are compared, laying emphasis on possible correlations among observables. In most scenarios, rare K decays offer unique windows into the Delta S=1 sector of the soft-breaking terms. Therefore, together with B-physics and collider observables, these modes will be essential for reconstructing the still elusive SUSY-breaking mechanism.

The photo-electric effect in the bi-layer graphite

We derive the differential probability of the photoelectric effect realized at the very low temperature of double graphene in the very strong magnetic field. The relation of this effect to the elementary particle physics, nuclear physics and Einstein gravity is mentioned. Our approach is the analogue of the Landau discovery of the diamagnetism, where Landau supposed the parabolic dispersion relations for the model of diamagnetism.

Normal versus inverted hierarchical models within $μ-τ$ symmetry

We make a theoretical attempt to compare the predictions from normal and inverted hierarchical models, within the framework of $μ-τ$ symmetry. We consider three major theoretical issues in a self consistent ways, viz., predictions on neutrino mass and mixing parameters, stability under RG analysis in MSSM, and baryogenesis through leptogenesis. We further extend our earlier works on parametrisation of neutrino mass matrices using only two parameters, in addition to an overall mass scale $m_0$, and the ratio of these two parameters fixes the value of solar mixing angle. Such parametrisation though phenomenological gives a firm handle on the analysis of the mass matrices and predicts lower values of solar mixing angle in the range $\tan^2θ_{12}=0.50-0.35$.We check the stability of the model under radiative corrections in MSSM for large $\tanβ\sim 58-60$ region and observe that the evolution of $\bigtriangleup m^2_{21}$ with energy scale, is highly dependent on the input high scale value of solar mixing angle. Solar angle predicted by tri-bimaximal mixings and also values lower than this, do not lead to stability of the model. Similarly, the evolution of the atmospheric mixing angle with energy scale at large $\tanβ$ values, shows sharp decrease for the case with non-zero value of m_3. We apply these mass matrices to estimate the baryon asymmetry of the universe in a self consistent way and find that normal hierarchical model leads to the best result. Considering all these three pieces of theoretical investigations, we may conclude that normal hierarchical model is more favourable in nature.

Non-planar structure of analytical QCD predictions for the Gottfried sum rule

It is stressed that within large N_c-expansion {\bf analytical calculations} of the $(α_s/π)^2$ QCD contributions to the valence part of the Gottfried sum rule for F_2 structure function of charged leptons-nucleon deep-inelastic scattering reveals the existence of the $O(1/N_c^2)$ {\bf non-planar} corrections only and the disappearance of the {\bf planar} O(N_c^0) perturbative terms. The relation between Gottfried and Adler sum rule for neutino-nucleon DIS is established and the proposal that the differebce between corresponding QCD corrections to higher non-singlet moments in charged-lepton and neutrino DIS are {\bf suppressed by 1/N_c^2} is made. The possible consequence of the cancellation of {\bf perturbative planar} graphs in the considered perturbative series, namely the existence of light-quark flavour asymmetry $\bar{u}(x)<\bar{d}(x)$, is mentioned. The effect of the similar origin, i.e. the relation of {\bf ``light-by-light-type''-type structure} in DIS characteristics at the $α_s^3$-level to the generation of light quark-antiquark asymmetry, is also commented.

PHOTOS Monte Carlo for precision simulation of QED in decays - History and properties of the project

Because of properties of QED, the bremsstrahlung corrections to decays of particles or resonances can be calculated, with a good precision, separately from other effects. Thanks to the widespread use of event records such calculations can be embodied into a separate module of Monte Carlo simulation chains, as used in High Energy Experiments of today. The PHOTOS Monte Carlo program is used for this purpose since nearly 20 years now. In the following talk let us review the main ideas and constraints which shaped the program version of today and enabled it widespread use. We will concentrate specially on conflicting requirements originating from the properties of QED matrix elements on one side and degrading (evolving) with time standards of event record(s). These issues, quite common in other modular software applications, become more and more difficult to handle as precision requirements become higher.

Rare K- (vs.) B-decays

We present a concise review of the recent theoretical progress concerning the standard model calculations of the rare K_L -> pi^0 nu anti-nu, K^+ -> pi^+ nu anti-nu (gamma), anti-B -> X_s gamma, and anti-B -> X_s l^+ l^- decays. The current status and future of the model-independent analysis of rare K- and B-meson decays within constrained minimal-flavor-violation is also briefly discussed.

Unitarity and real properties of the neutral meson complex

The proof of the Khalfin Theorem for neutral meson complex is analyzed. It is shown that the unitarity of the time evolution operator for the total system under considerations assures that the Khalfin's Theorem holds. The consequences of this Theorem for the neutral mesons system are discussed: it is shown, eg., that diagonal matrix elements of the exact effective Hamiltonian for the neutral meson complex can not be equal if CPT symmetry holds and CP symmetry is violated. Properties of time evolution governed by a time--independent effective Hamiltonian acting in the neutral mesons subspace of states are considered. Using the Khalfin's Theorem it is shown that if such Hamiltonian is time--independent then the evolution operator for the total system containing the neutral meson complex can not be a unitary operator. It is shown graphically for a given specific model how the Khalfin's Theorem works. It is also shown for this model how the difference of the mentioned diagonal matrix elements of the effective Hamiltonian varies in time.

Discovering Relic Gravitational Waves in Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation

The authority of J. A. Wheeler in many areas of gravitational physics is immense, and there is a connection with the study of relic gravitational waves as well. I begin with a brief description of Wheeler's influence on this study. One part of the paper is essentially a detailed justification of the very existence of relic gravitational waves, account of their properties related to the quantum-mechanical origin, derivation of the expected magnitude of their effects, and reasoning why they should be detectable in the relatively near future. This line of argument includes the comparison of relic gravitational waves with density perturbations of quantum-mechanical origin, and the severe criticism of methods and predictions of inflationary theory. Another part of the paper is devoted to active searches for relic gravitational waves in cosmic microwave background radiation (CMB). Here, the emphasis is on the temperature-polarization TE cross-correlation function of CMB. The expected numerical level of the correlation, its sign, statistics, and the most appropriate interval of angular scales are identified. Other correlation functions are also considered. The overall conclusion is such that the observational discovery of relic gravitational waves looks like the matter of a few coming years, rather than a few decades.

Automated calculations for multi-leg processes

The search for signals of new physics at the forthcoming LHC experiments involves the analysis of final states characterised by a high number of hadronic jets or identified particles. Precise theoretical predictions for these processes require the computation of scattering amplitudes with a large number of external particles and beyond leading order in perturbation theory. The complexity of a calculation grows with the number of internal loops as well as with the number of external legs. Automatisation of at least next-to-leading order calculations for LHC processes is therefore a timely task. I will discuss various approaches.

CPT and Decoherence in Quantum Gravity

In this review, I first discuss briefly some theoretical motivations for potential Lorentz Violation and deviation from ordinary quantum mechanical behavior (decoherence) of field theoretic systems in the background of some quantum gravity (QG) models. Both types of effects lead to CPT violation, but they can be disentangled experimentally. I, then, proceed to a description of precision tests of CPT symmetry using neutral and charged Kaons, which are of direct relevance to the main theme of this conference. I emphasize the potentially unique rôle of neutral meson factories in providing ``smoking-gun'' evidence of some QG-decoherence models in which the CPT quantum mechanical operator is not well defined. This is achieved by means of potential observations of QG-induced modifications of the pertinent Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) particle correlations.

Automatizing the application of Mellin-Barnes representations for Feynman integrals

Feynman diagrams may be evaluated by Mellin-Barnes representations of their Feynman parameter integrals in d=4-2\eps dimensions. Recently, the Mathematica toolkit AMBRE has been developed for the automatic derivation of such representations with a loop-by-loop approach. We describe the package and exemplify its use with the \eps-expansion of the massive one-loop QED vertex function.
