Simulation of the Polarized Fermion Decay

In this paper the modification of the method conventionally used for the modeling of the massive fermions production and decays is proposed. The step by step algorithm is presented. Under the strict conditions the proposed method of modeling allow distinctly raise the efficiency of the computations.

No Higgs at the LHC ?! A case for the ILC

I discuss the question whether it is possible that the LHC will find no signal for the Higgs particle. It is argued that in this case singlet scalars should be present that could play an important role in astroparticle physics. A critical view at the existing electroweak data shows that this possibility might be favored over the simplest standard model. In this case one needs the ILC in order to study the Higgs sector.

Radiative and semileptonic decays in Chiral Perturbation Theory

I give a short overview of what has been done in radiative and semileptonic Kaon decays in Chiral Perturbation Theory. This includes for semileptonic decays the work which has been done to order $p^6$ including preliminary results of isospin breaking to that order in $K_{\ell3}$. For the radiative decays I mainly present some results from recent work concerning $K_{\ell3γ}$.

The Axion from Five-Dimensional Supergravity

We consider the axion arising from five-dimensional supergravity in the presence of boundaries. We find the approximate bosonic effective action to estimate the lower bound on the "Peccei-Quinn" energy scale with a flat bulk. With a warped bulk, one can obtain a scale within the standard window; this puts a bound on the required curvature scale relative to the proper separation between boundaries. We comment on the scalar potential that may ruin the strong-CP resolution, and the effective derivative coupling to matter in 5D hypermultiplets.

$(α')^4$ Corrections in Holographic Large N_c QCD and $π- π$ Scattering

We calculate the ${α'}^4$ corrections to the non-Abelian DBI action on the D8-brane in the holographic dual of large N_c QCD proposed by Sakai and Sugimoto. These give rise to higher derivative terms, in particular, four derivative contact terms for the pion field with the coupling uniquely determined. We calculate the pion-pion scattering amplitude near threshold. The results respecting unitarity are in qualitative agreement with the experimental curves.

Primordial antimatter in the contemporary universe

In some baryogenesis scenarios, the universe acquires a non-vanishing average baryonic charge, but the baryon to photon ratio is not spatially constant and can be even negative in some space regions. This allows for existence of lumps of antimatter in our neighborhood and the possibility that very compact antimatter objects make a part of cosmological dark matter. Here I discuss the peculiar signatures which may be observed in a near future.

Viscosity and jet quenching from holographic model

We consider the backreaction of the fundamental flavor degrees of freedom on the AdS$_5$-Schwarz background, and calculate their contributions to the shear viscosity and jet-quenching parameter of the thermal quark-gluon plasma.

Cosmic String Loops and Gravitational Radiation

Understanding of the signatures of cosmic string networks is limited by a large uncertainty in the sizes at which cosmic string loops form. We review cosmic string network evolution, and the gravitational signatures, with emphasis on this uncertainty. We then review a recent analytic model of cosmic string networks. In combination with recent simulations, this suggests that 90% of the string goes into very small loops, at the gravitational radiation scale, and 10% into loops near the Hubble scale. We discuss cosmic string signatures in such a scenario, and the `inverse problem' of determining the microscopic cosmic string properties from observations.

Quark-gluon plasma paradox

Based on simple physics arguments it is shown that the concept of quark-gluon plasma, a state of matter consisting of uncorrelated quarks, antiquarks, and gluons, has a fundamental problem.

Right-handed heavy neutrinos in the littlest Higgs model

In this paper we discuss the consequences of including a new heavy right-handed neutrino singlet $N_R$ in the littlest Higgs model. This new state is not connected with the light neutrinos {\it via} the seesaw mechanism. A very interesting property of this extended model is the full coupling of the new neutral gauge boson $A_H$ to $N_R$, giving large total cross sections and suggesting a wide range of experimental search for the $N_R$ at the p p collider CERN-LHC and future electron-positron collider ILC.

Regge Exchange Contribution to Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering

Recently we have shown that exclusive QCD photon-induced reactions at low Mandelstam-t are best described by Regge exchanges in the entire scaling region, and not only for low values of Bjorken-x. In this paper we explore this crucial Regge behavior in Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering from the point of view of collinear factorization, with the proton tensor written in terms of Generalized Parton Distributions, and we reproduce this feature. Thus it appears that in the Bjorken limit, a large class of hard, low-t exclusive processes are more sensitive to the meson cloud of the proton than to its fundamental quark structure. These process will then be described most efficiently by process-dependent Regge Exclusive Amplitudes rather than by universal Generalized Parton Distributions. We introduce such Regge Exclusive Amplitudes for Deeply Virtual Compton Scattering.

Partial restoration of factorization and universality in presence of factorization breaking interactions in hadronic hard scattering processes

Recent works have discussed the violation of factorization and universality in hadronic hard scattering processes aimed at measurements of T-odd distributions. We use simple arguments to show that it is possible to restore an approximate factorization involving T-odd contributions if the factorization breaking interactions present a frequency spectrum dominated by by a narrow and regular peak whose maximum value corresponds to a respected factorization.

Radiative return physics program within EURIDICE network

A short review of both theoretical and experimental aspects of the radiative return method is presented with the emphasize on the results obtained within the EURIDICE network. It is shown that the method gives not only possibility of an independent from the scan method measurement of the hadronic cross section, but also can provide information concerning details of the hadronic interactions.

Factorization Approaches to B Meson Decays

We compare the theoretical frameworks and the phenomenological applications of the factorization approaches to exclusive $B$ meson decays, which include QCD-improved factorization, perturbative QCD, and soft-collinear effective theory. Recent progress on two-body nonleptonic $B$ meson decays made in these approaches are reviewed.

Predictions for sin 2(beta/phi_1)_eff in b->s penguin dominated modes

We provide a review of predictions for sin 2beta_eff in b->s penguin dominated modes based on 1/m_b expansion and/or SU(3) flavor symmetry. The experimental results are consistently lower than the theoretical predictions. In order to interpret whether this effect is a sign of new physics contributions or can be explained away within the Standard Model a theoretical input cannot be avoided. The effect survives at a level larger than 2.1 sigma in a conservative average over different modes that includes theoretical predictions.

BFKL equation at finite temperature

We consider the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) at finite temperature, which would be relevant to the initial condition of relativistic heavy ion collisions and the energy loss of energetic partons in the quark-gluon plasma. In the weak source approximation, we derive the thermal BFKL equation. We find that the thermal effect shows up as a Bose enhancement of the soft gluon emission if the temperature is high enough to match the light-cone energy of the soft gluons. This suggests that the saturation regime could be reached sooner than in the vacuum.

On the Correlation of Subevents in the ATLAS and CMS/Totem Experiments

We analyze the problem of correlating pp interaction data from the central detectors with a subevent measured in an independent system of leading proton detectors using FP420 as an example. FP420 is an R&D project conducted by a collaboration formed by members of ATLAS and CMS to investigate the possibility of detecting new physics in the central exclusive channel, PP -> P + X + P,where the central system X may be a single particle, for example a Standard Model Higgs boson. With standard LHC optics, the protons emerge from the beam at a distance of 420m from the Interaction Point, for M_X ~ 120 GeV. The mass of the central system can be measured from the outgoing protons alone, with a resolution of order 2 GeV irrespective of the decay products of the central system. In addition, to a very good approximation, only central systems with 0^++ quantum numbers can be produced, meaning that observation of a SM or MSSM Higgs Boson in this channel would lead to a direct determination of the quantum numbers.
