Results on ϕ2 from e+e- colliders

We present a summary of measurements sensitive to the CKM angle ϕ2 (α), performed by the BaBar and the Belle experiments which both collect B\bar{B} pairs produced at the Υ(4S) resonance in asymmetric e+e- collisions. We discuss the decays B -> ππ, ρρ, a_1πand (ρπ)^0. The CP asymmetries, branching fractions and polarizations obtained are used to constrain ϕ2.

High energy gamma-ray constraints on decaying Dark Matter

New bounds on decaying Dark Matter are derived from the gamma-ray measurements of (i) the isotropic residual (extragalactic) background by Fermi and (ii) the Fornax galaxy cluster by H.E.S.S. We find that those from (i) are among the most stringent constraints currently available, for a large range of dark matter masses and a variety of decay modes, excluding half-lives up to about 10^26 to few 10^27 seconds. In particular, they rule out the interpretation in terms of decaying dark matter of the e+/- spectral features in PAMELA, Fermi and H.E.S.S., unless very conservative choices are adopted. We also discuss future prospects for CTA bounds from Fornax which, contrary to the present H.E.S.S. constraints of (ii), may allow for an interesting improvement and may become better than those from the current or future extragalactic Fermi data.

A precise determination of top quark electro-weak couplings at the ILC operating at $\roots=500\,\GeV$

Top quark production in the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow t\bar{t}$ at a future linear electron positron collider with polarised beams is a powerful tool to determine indirectly the scale of new physics. The presented study, based on a detailed simulation of the ILD detector concept, assumes a centre-of-mass energy of $\roots=500$\,GeV and a luminosity of $\mathcal{L}=500\,\invfb$ equality shared between the incoming beam polarisations of $P_{e^{-,+}} =\pm0.8,\mp0.3$. Events are selected in which the top pair decays semi-leptonically. The study comprises the cross sections, the forward-backward asymmetry and the slope of the helicity angle asymmetry. The vector, axial vector and tensorial CP conserving couplings are separately determined for the photon and the $Z^0$ component. The sensitivity to new physics would be dramatically improved with respect to what is expected from LHC for electroweak couplings.

Glueball and meson spectrum in large-N massless QCD

We provide outstanding numerical evidence that in large-N massless QCD the joint spectrum of the masses squared, for fixed integer spin s and unspecified parity and charge conjugation, obeys exactly the following laws: m_k^2 = (k+s/2) Lambda_QCD^2 for s even, m_k^2 = 2(k+s/2) Lambda_QCD^2 for s odd, k = 1,2,... for glueballs, and m_n^2 = 1/2 (n+s/2) Lambda_QCD^2, n = 0,1,... for mesons. One of the striking features of these laws is that they imply that the glueball and meson masses squared form exactly-linear Regge trajectories in the large-N limit of massless QCD, all the way down to the low-lying states: A fact unsuspected so far. The numerical evidence is based on lattice computations by Meyer-Teper in SU(8) YM for glueballs, and by Bali et al. in SU(17) quenched massless QCD for mesons, that we analyze systematically. The aforementioned spectrum for spin-0 glueballs is implied by a Topological Field Theory underlying the large-N limit of YM, whose glueball propagators satisfy as well fundamental universal constraints arising from the asymptotic freedom and the renormalization group. No other presently existing model meets both the infrared spectrum and the ultraviolet constraints. We argue that some features of the aforementioned spectrum of glueballs and mesons of any spin could be explained by the existence of a Topological String Theory dual to the Topological Field Theory.

Exotic Higgs Decay h to 2a at the International Linear Collider: a Snowmass White Paper

A Higgs factory like the International Linear Collider (ILC) can play a significant role in searching for exotic decays of Higgs bosons. As an illustration, we investigate the ILC sensitivity for the decay topology $h\to a_1 a_1 \to τ\bar ττ\bar τ$ in the Next-to-Minimal-Supersymmetric-Standard-Model (NMSSM). Here $h$ can be either Standard-Model-like or non-standard, and $a_{1}$ is the lightest CP-odd Higgs boson. We also compare results to expectations for this channel at the LHC.

Chiral-odd pion generalized parton distributions beyond leading twist

We define in a systematic way, based on the light-cone collinear factorization method, the chiral-odd generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of a pseudoscalar hadron (such as the pi0) up to twist 5. For that, we introduce the relevant matrix elements for 2-parton non-local operators, as well as matrix elements for 3-parton non-local correlators. Their detailed parametrization is fixed based on parity, charge conjugation and time reversal invariance. This leads to the introduction of 20 real GPDs, whose symmetry properties are explicitely given. The reduction of these GPDs to a minimal set is performed by the use of constraints provided by QCD equations of motion and rotation on the light-cone. We show that these 20 GPDs can be expressed through 8 GPDs which satisfy 4 integral sum rules. A surprising outcome of this analysis is the fact that, when assuming the vanishing of 3-parton correlators, as in the so-called Wandzura-Wilczek approximation, the whole set of GPDs vanishes.

Hyper-Kamiokande Physics Opportunities

We propose the Hyper-Kamiokande (Hyper-K) detector as a next generation un- derground water Cherenkov detector. It will serve as a far detector of a long base- line neutrino oscillation experiment envisioned for the upgraded J-PARC beam, and as a detector capable of observing, far beyond the sensitivity of the Super-Kamiokande (Super-K) detector, proton decays, atmospheric neutrinos, and neutrinos from astro- physical origins. The current baseline design of Hyper-K is based on the highly suc- cessful Super-K detector, taking full advantage of a well-proven technology. Hyper-K consists of two cylindrical tanks lying side-by-side, the outer dimensions of each tank being 48(W) x54(H) x 250(L) m3. The total (fiducial) mass of the detector is 0.99 (0.56) million metric tons, which is about 20 (25) times larger than that of Super-K. This set of three one- page whitepapers prepared for the US Snowmass process describes the opportunities for future physics discoveries at the Hyper-K facility with beam, atmospheric and astrophysical neutrinos.

Spin-Statistics Correlations in Various Noncommutative Field Theories

In this thesis we study field theories written on a particular model of noncommutative spacetime, the Groenewold-Moyal (GM) plane. We start with briefly reviewing the novel features of field theories on GM plane e.g. the $\ast$-product, restoration of Poincaré-Hopf symmetry and twisted commutation relations. We then discuss our work on renormalization of field theories on GM plane. We show that any generic noncommutative theory involving pure matter fields with polynomial interactions, is a renormalizable theory if the analogous commutative theory is renormalizable. We further show that all such noncommutative theories will have same fixed points and $β$-functions for the couplings, as that of the analogous commutative theory. The unique feature of these field theories is the twisted statistics obeyed by the particles. Motivated by it, we look at the possibility of twisted statistics by deforming internal symmetries instead of spacetime symmetries. We construct two different twisted theories which can be viewed as internal symmetry analogue of the GM plane and dipole field theories which arise in the low energy limit of certain string configurations. We further study their various properties like the issue of causality and the scattering formalism. Having studied the mathematical properties of noncommutative and twisted internal symmetries we move on to discuss their potential phenomenological signatures. We first discuss the noncommutative thermal correlation functions and show that because of the twisted statistics, all correlation functions except two-point function get modified. Finally we discuss the modifications in Hanbury-Brown Twiss (HBT) correlation functions due to twisted statistics on GM plane and the potential of observing signatures of noncommutativity by doing a HBT correlation experiment with Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECRs).

On limitation of mass spectrum in non-Hermitian $\cal PT$-symmetric models with the $γ_5$-dependent mass term

The modified Dirac equations for the massive particles with the replacement of the physical mass $m$ with the help of the relation $m\rightarrow m_1 + γ_5 m_2$ are investigated. It is shown that for a free fermion theory with a $γ_5$ mass term, the finiteness of the mass spectrum at the value $ m_{max}= {m_1}^2/2m_2$ takes place. In this case the region of the unbroken $\cal PT$-symmetry may be expressed by means of the simple restriction of the physical mass $m\leq m_{max}$. Furthermore, we have that the areas of unbroken $\cal PT$-symmetry $m_1\geq m_2\geq 0$, which guarantees the reality values of the physical mass $m$, consists of three different parametric subregions: i) $0\leq m_2 < m_1/\sqrt{2}$, \,\,ii) $m_2=m_1/\sqrt{2}=m_{max},$ \,\,(iii)$m_1/\sqrt{2}< m_2 \leq m_1$. It is vary important, that only the first subregion (i) defined mass values $m_1,m_2,$ which correspond to the description of traditional particles in the modified models, because this area contain the possibility transform the modified model to the ordinary Dirac theory. The second condition (ii) is defined the "maximon" - the particle with maximal mass $m=m_{max}$. In the case (iii) we have to do with the unusual or "exotic" particles for description of which Hamiltonians and equations of motion have no a Hermitian limit. The formulated criterions may be used as a major test in the process of the division of considered models into ordinary and "exotic fermion theories".

Diquark-diquark-antiquark model for pentaquarks with hidden charm: current status and problems

The $J/ψp$ signals at 4380 MeV and 4450 MeV which were seen by the LHCb collaboration in the decay $Λ^0_b\to K^-J/ψp$ are discussed following the hypothesis of the existence of diquark-diquark-antiquark composite states. The discussed problems concern: (i) estimation of masses and mass splittings for low-lying states, (ii) determination of decay modes in the quark recombination scheme, (iii) unitarity and analyticity constrains for pentaquark propagators, (iv) hadronic deuteron-like components in the diquark-diquark-antiquark multiplet.

Search for Double Charged Particles as Direct Test for Dark Atom Constituents

The nonbaryonic dark matter of the Universe is assumed to consist of new stable particles. Stable particle candidates for cosmological dark matter are usually considered as neutral and weakly interacting. However stable charged leptons and quarks can also exist hidden in elusive dark atoms and can play a role of dark matter. Such possibility is strongly restricted by the constraints on anomalous isotopes of light elements that form positively charged heavy species with ordinary electrons. This problem might be avoided, if stable particles with charge -2 exist and there are no stable particles with charges +1 and -1. These conditions cannot be realized in supersymmetric models, but can be satisfied in several alternative scenarios, which are discussed in this paper. The excessive -2 charged particles are bound with primordial helium in O-helium atoms, maintaining specific nuclear-interacting form of the dark matter. O-helium dark matter can provide solution for the puzzles of dark matter searches. The successful development of composite dark matter scenarios appeals to experimental search for doubly charged constituents of dark atoms. Estimates of production cross section of such particles at LHC are presented and discussed. Signatures of double charged particles in the ATLAS experiment are outlined.

The phase diagram in the vector meson extended linear sigma model

We investigate the chiral phase transition of the strongly interacting matter at nonzero temperature and baryon chemical potential $μ_B$ within an extended (2+1) flavor Polyakov constituent quark-meson model which incorporates the effect of the vector and axial vector mesons. The parameters of the model are determined by comparing masses and tree-level decay widths with experimental values. We examine the restoration of the chiral symmetry by monitoring the temperature evolution of condensates. We study the $T-ρ_B$ phase diagram of the model and find that a critical end point exists, although at very low density.

The role of hidden symmetries and Kaluza-Klein mass generation in extra-dimensional gauge theories

The transition from formulations with extra dimensions to Kaluza-Klein theories, aimed at extending the Standard Model, bears the ingredients of hidden symmetries and the Kaluza-Klein mechanism for mass generation. We explore these essential aspects in detail, and find that much can be said about them with no reference to the specific geometry of compact extra dimensions: the low-energy theory is determined, included dynamic variables and symmetries; mass terms arise; eigenfunctions that define Kaluza-Klein fields are fixed by the appropriate choice a Casimir invariant; there is a set of Kaluza-Klein pseudo-Goldstone bosons. Throughout our presentation, similarities and differences among spontaneous symmetry breaking, commonly present in conventional Standard Model extensions, and what happens in Kaluza-Klein theories are signaled and discussed.
