Comments on Spontaneous Spin-Statistics Violation by Fermion Condensates

Scalar condensation, the well-established Higgs phenomenon, is the standard paradigm for building up renormalizable gauge-invariant theories of massive gauge bosons. In this short note, we demonstrate the uniqueness of the Higgs vacuum state under the possible presence of fermion condensates in a renormalizable U(1) model. In the same context, we explain why spontaneous spin-statistics violation is technically not admitted in conventional Quantum Field Theory.

Comparative Analysis of Transversities and Longitudinally Polarized Distributions of the Nucleon

We carry out a comparative analysis of the transversities and the longitudinally polarized parton distribution functions in light of the first empirical extraction of the transversity distributions recently done by Anselmino et al. It is shown that the precise determination of the isoscalar tensor charge, which is defined as the 1st moment of the isoscalar combination of the transversity distributions, is of fundamental importance for clarifying the internal spin structure function of the nucleon.

Scalar mesons from Unitarized Chiral Perturbation Theory: N_c and quark mass dependences

We review recent studies of light scalar meson properties by means of unitarization techniques, obtained from dispersion theory, and applied to the Chiral Perturbation Theory expansion. In particular, light scalars do not follow the N_c dependence of $\bar q q$ states although a subdominant quark-antiquark component may be observed to arise for the f_0(600) around 1 GeV, where another quark-antiquark multiplet is believed to exist. Finally, we present our preliminary results on the quark mass dependence of the f_0(600) and rho(770) resonances.

Transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution function in soft-collinear effective theory

Transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions are analyzed in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering at low transverse momentum using soft-collinear effective theory. The transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions are defined on the lightcone without distorting the lightcone path nor adding additional soft Wilson lines. In this approach, the comparison between the integrated and unintegrated parton distribution functions becomes transparent. The procedure of computing radiative corrections in dimensional regularization is explained in detail, and the divergence, which is a product of infrared and ultraviolet divergence, is cancelled. The renormalization group equation for the transverse-momentum-dependent parton distribution functions is derived. It depends only on the relevant physical quantities and exhibits a nontrivial scaling behavior because the longitudinal momentum fraction and the transverse momentum are coupled in the renormalization group equation.

How do diquark fluctuations and chiral soft modes affect di-lepton production in the deconfined phase?

We examine diquark fluctuations and chiral soft modes existing in the precritical region of color superconductivity and chiral transition, respectively, at finite temperature and density. We evaluate how they contribute to anomalous di-lepton production; although there appear peaks in the spectral function owing to the existence of the soft modes, the enhancement of the production rate may not be so prominent to be a clear signal of the phsase transitions.

Baryon spectroscopy in constituent quark models

We present a study of the baryon spectra for all flavor sectors within a constituent quark model. We address some of the outstanding problems in baryon spectroscopy, as for example the spin splitting evolution for te different flavor sectors, the flavor independence of confinement and the missing state problem.

Study of an Abelinization Transition in SU(2) Gluodynamics at Finite Temperature

We discuss the problem of an effective descriptions of the phase transition phenomena in the pure gluodynamics in SU(2) symmetric QCD. We choose the method of calculation following the conjecture that the infrared sector of the theory possesses the same confinement characteristic as the full theory. We show, that analytic descriptions of this phenomena is beyond the Gaussian method of evaluations of functional integrals. We propose a non-perturbative evaluation of functional integral, meanwhile for two dimensional Wiener integral for $ϕ^4$ theory.

Investigating AdS/QCD duality through scalar glueball correlators

We investigate AdS/QCD duality for the two-point correlation function of the lowest dimension scalar glueball operator, in the case of the IR soft wall model. We point out the role of the boundary conditions for the bulk-to-boundary propagator in determining the gluon condensates. We show that a low energy QCD theorem can be obtained within the AdS approach, together with a gluon condensate close to the commonly accepted value and robust against perturbation of the background dilaton field.

Rho-Like Mesons from Analysis of the Pion-Pion Scattering

Considering analyticity, unitarity and an influence of coupled channels, experimental data on the isovector P-wave of pion-pion scattering was analyzed to study rho-like mesons below 1900 MeV. The analysis indicates evidently that in the energy range 1200--1800 MeV, there are three rho-like mesons: rho(1250), rho(1450) and rho(1600), unlike the PDG tables. The obtained P-wave pion-pion scattering length (a_1^1=33.9+- 2.02 [10^{-3}m_{pi^+}^{-3}]) most matches to the one calculated in the local Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model.

EeV neutrinos associated with UHECR sources

Electromagnetic energy losses of charged pions and muons suppress the expected high energy, >1E18 eV, neutrino emission from sources of ultrahigh energy, >1E19 eV, cosmic-rays. We show here that >1E19 eV photons produced in such sources by neutral pion decay may escape the sources, thanks to the Klein-Nishina suppression of the pair production cross section, and produce muon pairs in interactions with the cosmic microwave background. The flux of muon decay neutrinos, which are expected to be associated in time and direction with the electromagnetic emission from the sources, may reach a few percent of the Waxman-Bahcall bound. Their detection may allow one to directly identify the sources of >1E19 eV cosmic-rays, and will provide the most stringent constraints on quantum-gravity-induced Lorentz violation.

One-loop Integral Coefficients from Generalized Unitarity

I describe a method for determining the coefficients of scalar integrals for one-loop amplitudes in quantum field theory. The method is based upon generalized unitarity and the behavior of amplitudes when the free parameters of the cut momenta approach infinity. The method works for arbitrary masses of both external and internal legs of the amplitudes. It therefore applies not only to QCD but also to the Electroweak theory and to quantum field theory in general.

Light Higgses and Dark Matter at Bottom and Charm Factories

Neither Dark Matter nor scalar particles in the Higgs sector are ruled out at energies accessible to bottom and charm factories. In Dark Matter searches, the error on the mass of Dark Matter is $\sim 4$ GeV in the best LHC studies. For light Dark Matter this could represent a 100% (or more) error. In Higgs searches, the presence of a light singlet Higgs can make the LHC Higgs search difficult, if not impossible. If Dark Matter or a Higgs scalar is light, it will {\it require} a low-energy machine to precisely determine the couplings. We review the models, modes of discovery and rate expectations for these new particle searches at bottom and charm factories. We also discuss the options for new runs at bottom and charm factories relevant for these searches.

Observational approaches to understanding dark energy

Illuminating the nature of dark energy is one of the most important challenges in cosmology today. In this review I discuss several promising observational approaches to understanding dark energy, in the context of the recommendations by the U.S. Dark Energy Task Force and the ESA-ESO Working Group on Fundamental Cosmology.

The effect of isospin violation on scalar meson production

We investigate the isospin-violating mixing of the light scalar mesons a0(980) and f0(980) within the unitarized chiral approach. Isospin-violating effects are considered to leading order in the quark mass difference and electromagnetism. In this approach both resonances are generated through meson-meson dynamics. Our results provide a description of the mixing phenomenon within a framework consistent with chiral symmetry and unitarity, where these resonances are not predominantly quark-antiquark states. We discuss in detail the reactions J/Psi to phi S, where S denotes a suitable pair of pseudo--scalar mesons in the scalar channel, namely pi0 eta, K+K-, and K0 \bar K^0. In this work predictions for the cross section in the kaon channels are given for the first time with isospin violating effects included.
