Spinless particles in the field of unequal Scalar-Vector Yukawa potentials

We present analytical bound state solutions of the spin-zero Klein-Gordon (KG) particles in the field of unequal mixture of scalar and vector Yukawa potentials within the framework of the approximation scheme to the centrifugal potential term for any arbitrary -state. The approximate energy eigenvalues and unnormalized wave functions are obtained in closed forms using a simple shortcut of the Nikiforov-Uvarov (NU) method. Further, we solve the KG-Yukawa problem for its exact numerical energy eigenvalues via amplitude phase (AP) method to test the accuracy of the present solutions found by using the NU method. Our numerical tests using energy calculations demonstrate the existence of inter-dimensional degeneracy amongst energy states of the KG-Yukawa problem. The dependence of the energy on the dimension is numerically discussed for spatial dimensions

Decomposition of EOS of Asymmetric Nuclear Matter into Different Spin-isospin Channels

We investigate the equation of state of asymmetric nuclear matter and its isospin dependence in various spin-isospin $ST$ channels within the framework of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock approach extended to include a microscopic three-body force (TBF). It is shown that the potential energy per nucleon in the isospin-singlet T=0 channel is mainly determined by the contribution from the tensor SD coupled channel. At high densities, the TBF effect on the isospin-triplet T=1 channel contribution turns out to be much larger than that on the T=0 channel contribution. At low densities around and below the normal nuclear matter density, the isospin dependence is found to come essentially from the isospin-singlet SD channel and the isospin-triplet T=1 component is almost independent of isospin-asymmetry. As the density increases, the T=1 channel contribution becomes sensitive to the isospin-asymmetry and at high enough densities its isospin-dependence may even become more pronounced than that of the T=0 contribution. The present results may provide some microscopic constraints for improving effective nucleon-nucleon interactions in nuclear medium and for constructing new functionals of effective nucleon-nucleon interaction based on microscopic many-body theories.

Constraints on the nuclear symmetry energy and its density slope from the α decay process

We study the impact of the nuclear symmetry energy and its density dependence on the α-decay process. Within the frame work of the performed cluster model and the energy density formalism, we use different parameterizations of the Skyrme energy density functionals that yield different equations of state EOSs. Each EOS is characterized by a particular symmetry-energy coefficient (asym) and a corresponding density-slope parameters L. The stepwise trends of the neutron (proton) skin thickness of the involved nuclei with both asym and L do not clarify the obtained oscillating behaviors of the α-decay half-life Tα with them. We find that the change of the skin thickness after α-decay satisfactory explains these behaviors. The presented results provide constrains on asym centered around an optimum value asym= 32 MeV, and on L between 41 and 57 MeV. These values of asym and L, which indicate larger reduction of the proton-skin thickness and less increase in the neutron-skin thickness after an α-decay, yield minimum calculated half-life with the same extracted value of the α-preformation factor inside the parent nucleus.

Chiral Symmetry Restoration and Deconfinement in the Contact Interaction Model of Quarks with a Parallel Electric and Magnetic Fields

We study the impact of steady, homogeneous, and external parallel electric and magnetic field strength ($eE\parallel eB$), on the chiral symmetry breaking-restoration and confinement-deconfinement phase transitions. We also sketch the phase diagram of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) at finite temperature $T$ and in the presence of background fields. Our unified formalism for this study is based on the Schwinger-Dyson equations, symmetry preserving vector-vector contact interaction model of quarks, and the proper time regularization scheme. At $T=0$, in the purely magnetic case ($eE\rightarrow 0$), we observe the well known magnetic catalysis effect. On the other hand, in the pure electric field background ($eB\rightarrow 0$), the electric field tends to restore the chiral symmetry and deconfinement above the pseudo-critical electric field $eE^{χ, C}_c$. In the presence of both $eE$ and $eB$: we find the magnetic catalysis effect in the particular region where $eB$ dominates over $eE$, whereas, we observe the chiral inhibition (or electric chiral rotation) effect, when $eE$ stand over $eB$. At finite $T$, in the pure electric field case, the phenomenon of inverse electric catalysis appears to exist in our model. On the other hand for pure magnetic field background, we notice the magnetic catalysis effect in the mean-field approximation and inverse magnetic catalysis with $eB$-dependent coupling. The combined effect of both $eE$ and $eB$ on the pseudo-critical $T^{χ, C}_c$ yields the inverse electromagnetic catalysis, with and without $eB-$dependent effective coupling of the model. Our findings are satisfactory in agreement with already predicted results by lattice simulations and other reliable effective models of QCD.

Thermal dileptons as QCD matter probes at SIS

Electromagnetic radiation is emitted during the whole course of a heavy-ion collision and can escape from the collision zone without further interactions. This makes it an ideal tool to study the properties of hot and dense QCD matter. To model the space-time evolution of the collision at SIS energies a coarse-graining approach is used to convert transport simulations into meaningful temperatures and densities. These parameters serve as input for the determination of the pertinent radiation of thermal dileptons based on an in-medium $ρ$ spectral function that describes available spectra at ultrarelativistic collision energies. The resulting excitation function of the thermal excess radiation provides a baseline for future measurements by the HADES and CBM experiments at GSI/FAIR, and experiments proposed at NICA and J-PARC.

Systematic errors in transport calculations of shear viscosity using the Green-Kubo formalism

The purpose of this study is to provide a reproducible framework in the use of the Green-Kubo formalism to extract transport coefficients. More specifically, in the case of shear viscosity, we investigate the limitations and technical details of fitting the auto-correlation function to a decaying exponential. This fitting procedure is found to be applicable for systems interacting both through constant and energy-dependent cross-sections, although this is only true for sufficiently dilute systems in the latter case. We find that the optimal fit technique consists in simultaneously fixing the intercept of the correlation function and use a fitting interval constrained by the relative error on the correlation function. The formalism is then applied to the full hadron gas, for which we obtain the shear viscosity to entropy ratio.

Three-body Force Effects on the Properties of Neutron-rich Nuclear Matter

We review our research work on the single-particle properties and the equation of state (EOS) of isospin asymmetric nuclear matter within the framework of the Brueckner-Hartree-Fock (BHF) approach extended by including a microscopic three-body force (TBF). The TBF is shown to affect significantly the nuclear matter EOS and the density dependence of nuclear symmetry energy at high densities above the normal nuclear matter density, and it is necessary for reproducing the empirical saturation property of symmetric nuclear matter in a nonrelativistic microscopic framework. The TBF-induced rearrangement effect and the ground state (g.s.) correlation effect on the s.p. properties in neutron-rich nuclear matter are investigated. Both effects turn out to be crucial for predicting reliably the s.p. properties within the Brueckner framework. The TBF effect on nucleon superfluidity in neutron star matter and neutron stars has also been discussed.

Initial Conditions with Flow from a McLerran Venugopalan model with Transverse Dynamics

Using a recursive solution of the Yang-Mills equation, we calculate analytic expressions for the gluon fields created in ultra-relativistic heavy ion collisions at small times $τ$. We have worked out explicit solutions for the fields and the energy momentum tensor up to 4th order in an expansion in $τ$. We generalize the McLerran-Venugopalan model to allow for a systematic treatment of averaged charge densities $μ^2$ that vary as a function of transverse coordinates. This allows us to calculate radial, elliptic and directed flow of gluon fields. Our results can serve as initial conditions for hydrodynamic simulations of nuclear collisions that include initial flow.

An effective model of QCD thermodynamics

A combined effective model reproducing the equation of state of hadronic matter as obtained in recent lattice QCD simulations is presented. The model reproduces basic physical characteristics encountered in dense hadronic matter in the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) phase and the lower temperature hadron resonance gas phase. The hadronic phase is described by means of an extended Mott-Hagedorn resonance gas while the QGP phase is described by the extended PNJL model. The dissociation of hadrons is obtained by including the state dependent hadron resonance width.

Addition theorems for spin spherical harmonics. I Preliminaries

We develop a systematic approach to deriving addition theorems for, and some other bilocal sums of, spin spherical harmonics. In this first part we establish some necessary technical results. We discuss the factorization of orbital and spin degrees of freedom in certain products of Clebsch-Gordan coefficients, and obtain general explicit results for the matrix elements in configuration space of tensor products of arbitrary rank of the position and angular-momentum operators. These results are the basis of the addition theorems for spin spherical harmonics obtained in part II.

Addition theorems for spin spherical harmonics. II Results

Based on the results of part I, we obtain the general form of the addition theorem for spin spherical harmonics and give explicit results in the cases involving one spin-$s'$ and one spin-$s$ spherical harmonics with $s',s=1/2$, 1, 3/2, and $|s'-s|=0$, 1. We obtain also a fully general addition theorem for one scalar and one tensor spherical harmonic of arbitrary rank. A variety of bilocal sums of ordinary and spin spherical harmonics are given in explicit form, including a general explicit expression for bilocal spherical harmonics.

Long-term 3D-MHD Simulations of Black Hole Accretion Disks formed in Neutron Star Mergers

We examine the long-term evolution of accretion tori around black hole (BH) remnants of compact object mergers involving at least one neutron star, to better understand their contribution to kilonovae and the synthesis of r-process elements. To this end, we modify the unsplit magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) solver in FLASH4.5 to work in non-uniform three-dimensional spherical coordinates, enabling more efficient coverage of a large dynamic range in length scales while exploiting symmetries in the system. This modified code is used to perform BH accretion disk simulations that vary the initial magnetic field geometry and disk compactness, utilizing a physical equation of state, a neutrino leakage scheme for emission and absorption, and modeling the BH's gravity with a pseudo-Newtonian potential. Simulations run for long enough to achieve a radiatively-inefficient state in the disk. We find robust mass ejection with both poloidal and toroidal initial field geometries, and suppressed outflow at high disk compactness. With the included physics, we obtain bimodal velocity distributions that trace back to mass ejection by magnetic stresses at early times, and to thermal processes in the radiatively-inefficient state at late times. The electron fraction distribution of the disk outflow is broad in all models, and the ejecta geometry follows a characteristic hourglass shape. We test the effect of removing neutrino absorption or nuclear recombination with axisymmetric models, finding $\sim 50\%$ less mass ejection and more neutron-rich composition without neutrino absorption, and a subdominant contribution from nuclear recombination. Tests of the MHD and neutrino leakage implementations are included.

Possible Constraints on the Density Dependence of the Nuclear Symmetry Energy from Quasiperiodic Oscillations in Soft Gamma Repeaters

We systematically examine the fundamental frequencies of shear torsional oscillations in neutron star crusts in a manner that is dependent on the parameter $L$ characterizing the poorly known density dependence of the symmetry energy. The identification of the lowest quasiperiodic oscillation (QPO) among the observed QPOs from giant flares in soft-gamma repeaters as the $/ell=2$ fundamental torsional oscillations enables us to constrain the parameter $L$ as $L/ge 47.4$ MeV, which is the most conservative restriction on $L$ obtained in the present work that assumes that the mass and radius of the flaring neutron stars range 1.4-1.8 $M_{/odot}$ and 10-14 km. Next, we identify one by one a set of the low-lying frequencies observed in giant flares as the fundamental torsional oscillations. The values of $L$ that can reproduce all the observed frequencies in terms of the torsional oscillations coupled with a part of dripped neutrons via entrainment effects are then constrained as 101.1 MeV $/le L /le$ 131.0 MeV. Alternatively, if only the second lowest frequency observed in SGR 1806$-$20 has a different origin, one obtains relatively low $L$ values ranging 58.0 MeV $/le L /le$ 85.3 MeV, which seem more consistent with other empirical constraints despite large uncertainties.

Hyperfine-induced effects on the linear polarization of the K$α_1$ emission from helium-like ions

The linear polarization of the characteristic photon emission from few-electron ions is studied for its sensitivity with regard to the nuclear spin and magnetic moment of the ions. Special attention is paid, in particular, to the K$α_1$ ($1s 2p_{3/2} ^{1,3}P_{1,2} \to 1s^2 ^1S_0$) decay of selected helium-like ions following the radiative electron capture into initially hydrogen-like species. Based on the density matrix theory, a unified description is developed that includes both, the many-electron and hyperfine interactions as well as the multipole-mixing effects arising from the expansion of the radiation field. It is shown that the polarization of the K$α_1$ line can be significantly affected by the mutipole mixing between the leading $M2$ and hyperfine-induced $E1$ components of $1s2p ^3P_2, F_i \to 1s^2 ^1S_0, F_f$ transitions. This $E1$-$M2$ mixing strongly depends on the nuclear properties of the considered isotopes and can be addressed experimentally at existing heavy-ion storage rings.

Universal nature and finite-range corrections in elastic atom-dimer scattering below the dimer breakup threshold

We investigate universal behavior in elastic atom-dimer scattering below the dimer breakup threshold calculating the atom-dimer effective-range function $ak\cotδ$. Using the He-He system as a reference, we solve the Schrödinger equation for a family of potentials having different values of the two-body scattering length $a$ and we compare our results to the universal zero-range form deduced by Efimov, $ak\cotδ=c_1(ka)+c_2(ka)\cot[s_0\ln(κ_*a)+ϕ(ka)]$, for selected values of the three-body parameter $κ_*$. Using the parametrization of the universal functions $c_1,c_2,ϕ$ given in the literature, a good agreement with the universal formula is obtained after introducing a particular type of finite-range corrections. Furthermore, we show that the same parametrization describes a very different system: nucleon-deuteron scattering below the deuteron breakup threshold. Our analysis confirms the universal character of the process, and relates the pole energy in the effective-range function of nucleon-deuteron scattering to the three-body parameter $κ_*$.

Single-Particle Momentum Distributions of Efimov States in Mixed-Species Systems

We solve the three-body bound state problem in three dimensions for mass imbalanced systems of two identical bosons and a third particle in the universal limit where the interactions are assumed to be of zero-range. The system displays the Efimov effect and we use the momentum-space wave equation to derive formulas for the scaling factor of the Efimov spectrum for any mass ratio assuming either that two or three of the two-body subsystems have a bound state at zero energy. We consider the single-particle momentum distribution analytically and numerically and analyse the tail of the momentum distribution to obtain the three-body contact parameter. Our finding demonstrate that the functional form of the three-body contact term depends on the mass ratio and we obtain an analytic expression for this behavior. To exemplify our results, we consider mixtures of Lithium with either two Caesium or Rubium atoms which are systems of current experimental interest.
