Supersymmetric Dark Matter Candidates - The Lightest Neutralino, the Gravitino, and the Axino

In supersymmetric extensions of the Standard Model, the lightest neutralino, the gravitino, and the axino can appear as the lightest supersymmetric particle and as such provide a compelling explanation of the non-baryonic dark matter in our Universe. For each of these dark matter candidates, I review the present status of primordial production mechanisms, cosmological constraints, and prospects of experimental identification.

Polarization buildup by spin filtering in storage rings

There has been much recent research into polarizing an antiproton beam, instigated by the recent proposal from the PAX (Polarized Antiproton eXperiment) project at GSI Darmstadt. It plans to polarize an antiproton beam by repeated interaction with a polarized internal target in a storage ring. The method of polarization buildup by spin filtering requires many of the beam particles to remain within the ring after scattering off the polarized internal target via electromagnetic and hadronic interactions. Sets of differential equations which describe the buildup of polarization by spin filtering in many different scenarios have recently been presented and solved. In this paper we add to this literature by investigating a scenario where unpolarized particles are input into the beam at a linearly increasing rate, i.e. the input rate is ramped up.

Gauge invariance and renormalization-group effects in transverse-momentum dependent parton distribution functions

A range of issues pertaining to the use of Wilson lines in integrated and transverse-momentum dependent (TMD) parton distribution functions (PDF) is discussed. The relation between gauge invariance and the renormalization properties of the Wilson-line integrals is given particular attention. Using an anomalous-dimensions based analysis in the light-cone gauge, a generalized definition of the TMD PDFs is proposed, which employs a cusped Wilson line, and contains an intrinsic "Coulomb-like" phase.

Study of a model-independent method for the measurement of the angle phi_3

This report shows the latest results on the study of the method to determine the angle phi_3 of the unitarity triangle using Dalitz plot analysis of $D^0$ decay from B->DK process in a model-independent way. We concentrate on the case with a limited charm data sample, which will be available from the CLEO-c collaboration in the nearest future, with the main goal to find the optimal strategy for phi_3 extraction. We find that the analysis using decays of D_CP only cannot provide a completely model-independent measurement in the case of limited data sample. The procedure involving binned analysis of B->DK and psi(3770)->(K^0_S pi^+ pi^-)_D(K^0_S pi^+ pi^-)_D decays is proposed, that allows to obtain the phi_3 precision comparable to unbinned model-dependent fit.

CP violation in charm

CP-violating asymmetries in charm provide a unique probe of physics beyond the Standard Model. I review several topics relevant to searches for CP-violation in charmed meson and baryon transitions.

Notes on Local Grand Unification

Grand unified models in four dimensions typically suffer from the doublet-triplet splitting problem. This obstacle can be overcome in higher-dimensional settings, where a non-trivial gauge group topography can explain the simultaneous appearance of complete standard model generations in the form of 16-plets of SO(10) and the Higgs fields as split multiplets. In these notes, the emerging scheme of `local grand unification' and its realization in the context of orbifold compactifications of the heterotic string are reviewed.

Weak Charm Decays with Lattice QCD

In this paper I review the status of lattice QCD calculations of $D$ and $D_s$ meson decay constants and of $D$ meson semileptonic decay form factors. I restrict my discussion to results obtained from simulations with $n_f = 2+1$ sea quarks.

Extraction of alpha_s and m_Q from Onia

We briefly review how precise determinations of the strong coupling constant and of the heavy quark masses may be obtained from heavy quarkonium. Such determinations are competitive with heavy quark masses extraction from other systems and give an accurate value for the strong coupling constant at a relatively low energy scale. In particular we report about a recent determination of $\als$ from $Γ(Υ(1S) \to γX)/Γ(Υ(1S) \to X)$ with CLEO data which includes color octet contributions and avoids model dependence in the extraction. The obtained value is $\als (M_{Υ(1S)})= 0.184^{+0.015}_{-0.014}$, which corresponds to $\als(M_Z) = 0.119^{+0.006}_{-0.005}$. Future prospects for more precise extractions of the heavy quark masses and $\als$ are discussed.

Colored dark matter

The idea is considered that a classical non-Abelian gauge field can be considered as a dark matter candidate. It is shown that Yang-Mills equations have solutions with such distribution of the mass density that allows to describe a rotational curve of spiral galaxies. The conditions necessary for such consideration are considered. One parameter is estimated from Yang-Mills equations and from astrophysical observations (stars rotation curve). The agreement is to within 1%.

Running Top quark mass in the presence of light SM Higgs

The running of the Top quark mass is considered in the nonperturbative framework of the Schwinger-Dyson equation. Based on the input of physical pole mass meassured at the Tevatron the method provides the resulting mass function which is almost constant at low spacelike and timelike scales. The skeleton loops including Standard Model Higgs and gluons are taken into account. The dominant two-loop skeleton contribution with triplet Higgs interaction is considered in addition to one loop dressed approximation of the top quark self-energy.

S-wave meson scattering up to sqrt{s} < 2 GeV from chiral Lagrangians

The problem of scalar mesons still remains a challenging puzzle, for which we do not even know which are the right pieces to set up. The proliferation of resonances (some of them are very broad and appear on top of hadronic thresholds) and of coupled channels that interact strongly among each other makes the study of this sector a hard task. Our objective is the study of the strongly interacting mesons in coupled channels with quantum numbers J^{PC} = 0^{++} and I=0 and I=1/2, up to a center of mass energy sqrt{s} < 2 GeV. Our framework is based on Unitary Chiral Perturbation Theory. We include for I=0 the channels: ππ, K\bar{K}, ηη, σσ, ηη', ρρ, ωω, η'η', ωϕ, ϕϕ, K^\ast \bar{K}^\ast, a_1(1260)πand π^{\star}(1300)π. In addition, and in order to constrain our fits, we also study the I=1/2, 3/2 channels given by Kπ, Kηand Kη'. We finally present the resonant content of our fits with the $σ$, $f_0(980)$, $f_0(1310)$, $f_(1500)$, $f_0(1710)$ and $f_0(1790)$.

Plasma Electromagnetic Fluctuations as an Initial Value Problem

Fluctuations of electric and magnetic fields in the collisionless plasma are found as a solution of the initial value linearized problem. The plasma initial state is on average stationary and homogeneous. When the state is stable, the initial fluctuations decay exponentially and in the long time limit a stationary spectrum of fluctuations is established. For the equilibrium plasma it reproduces the spectrum obtained from the fluctuation-dissipation relation. Fluctuations in the unstable two-stream system are also discussed.

Excited Baryons in Large Nc QCD: Matching the 1/Nc expansion to quark models using the permutation group S_N

We show how to match quark models to the 1/Nc expansion of QCD. As an example we discuss in detail the mass operator of orbitally excited baryons and match it to the one-gluon exchange and the one-boson exchange variants of the quark model. The matching procedure is very general and makes use of the transformation properties of states and operators under S_N^{orb} \times S_N^{sp-fl}, the permutation group acting on the orbital and spin-flavor degrees of freedom of N quarks.

CP-violating Loop Effects in the Higgs Sector of the MSSM

CP-violating effects in the Higgs sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters (cMSSM) are induced by potentially large higher-order corrections. As a consequence, all three neutral Higgs bosons can mix with each other. Recent results for loop corrections in the Higgs sector of the cMSSM are reviewed. Results for propagator-type corrections of O(alpha_t alpha_s) and complete one-loop results for Higgs cascade decays of the kind h_a -> h_b h_c are summarised, and the proper treatment of external Higgs bosons in Higgs-boson production and decay processes is discussed.

Dirac b quark on the lattice

We perform the first study of treating b, c, and s quarks as Dirac fermions in lattice QCD with exact chiral symmetry. On a 32^3 60 lattice with 1/a ~ 7.68 GeV, we compute point-to-point quark propagators, and measure the time-correlation functions for mesons with quark contents b_bbar, c_bbar, s_bbar, and c_cbar. The lowest-lying meson mass spectra, the pseudoscalar decay constants, and the b and c quark masses are determined.
