Baryogenesis -- 40 Years Later

The classical picture of GUT baryogenesis has been strongly modified by theoretical progress concerning two nonperturbative features of the standard model: the phase diagram of the electroweak theory, and baryon and lepton number changing sphaleron processes in the high-temperature symmetric phase of the standard model. We briefly review three viable models, electroweak baryogenesis, the Affleck-Dine mechanism and leptogenesis and discuss the prospects to falsify them. All models are closely tied to the nature of dark matter, especially in supersymmetric theories. In the near future results from LHC and gamma-ray astronomy will shed new light on the origin of the matter-antimatter asymmetry of the universe.

Adler function in the analytic approach to QCD

The low energy behavior of the Adler function D(Q^2) is studied by employing recently derived integral representation for the latter. This representation embodies the nonperturbative constraints on D(Q^2), in particular, it retains the effects due to the nonvanishing pion mass. The Adler function is calculated within the developed approach by making use of its perturbative approximation as the only additional input. The obtained result agrees with the experimental prediction for the Adler function in the entire energy range and possesses remarkable stability with respect to the higher loop corrections.

Relations Between Standard Model Parameters from $T^{'}$ Flavor Symmetry

Spontaneously broken flavor symmetry involving the binary tetrahedral group $T^{'}$ relates parameters in the standard model. In one example the CP violating Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata phase $δ_{PMNS}$ and atmospheric mixing angle $θ_{23}$ of neutrinos are related to the Cabibbo mixing angle $Θ_C$ for quarks. A second formula relates a ratio of neutrino mass eigenvalues to the Cabibbo angle.

A "Domain Wall" Scenario for the AdS/QCD

We propose a scenario for bottom-up gravity dual picture of QCD-like theories, which consists of two near-AdS$_5$ domains separated by the ``domain wall'' at which the effective coupling relatively rapidly switches from small perturbative value at its UV side to strong at its IR side. Its consequence are corresponding jumps in 5-d masses of the bulk fields, related to different anomalous dimensions of the corresponding operators. Inclusion of both weakly and strongly coupled parts of bulk wave functions allows for consistent inclusion of QCD hard processes. We further discuss how transitions from strong to weak coupling in hard observables should look like, exemplified by pion diffractive dissociation, which seems to show this transition experimentally. Then we propose a dynamical mechanism for this jump related to instantons, which are point-like bulk objects located at/near the domain wall. We further argue that in the limit of large number of colors $N_c\to\infty$ the "domain wall" is becoming a true singularity. Instanton-induced contributions to correlators and partition function of the instanton ensemble is reformulated in the $AdS_5$ language. Among other applications are lowest mesons as collective vibrations of the ``domain wall''.

On the phase diagram of QCD at finite isospin density

Using a canonical formalism, we determine the equation of state and the phase diagram of eight-flavour QCD, as a function of temperature and isospin density. Two mechanisms are at work: Bose condensation of pions at high density, and deconfinement at high temperature. We study their interplay and find that on our small and coarse lattice the first order deconfinement transition appears to end at a critical point at finite density. We investigate the strength of the overlap and of the sign problems and discuss implications for the baryonic density case.

Selected topics on tau physics

The B Factories have generated a large amount of new results on the tau lepton. The present status of some selected topics on tau physics is presented: charged-current universality tests, bounds on lepton-flavour violation, the determination of alpha_s from the inclusive tau hadronic width, and the measurement of |V_{us}| through the Cabibbo-suppressed decays of the tau lepton.

Noncommutative Spacetime and Emergent Gravity

We argue that a field theory defined on noncommutative (NC) spacetime should be regarded as a theory of gravity, which we refer to as the emergent gravity. A whole point of the emergent gravity is essentially originated from the basic property: A NC spacetime is a (NC) phase space. This fact leads to two important consequences: (I) A NC field theory can basically be identified with a matrix model or a large N field theory where NC fields can be regarded as master fields of large N matrices. (II) NC fields essentially define vector (tetrad) fields. So they define a gravitational metric of some manifold as an emergent geometry from NC gauge fields. Of course, the pictures (I) and (II) should refer to the same physics, which should be familiar with the large N duality in string theory. The 1/N corrections in the picture (I) correspond to the derivative corrections in terms of the noncommutativity θfor the picture (II).

A QCD chiral critical point at small chemical potential: is it there or not?

For a QCD chiral critical point to exist, the parameter region of small quark masses for which the finite temperature transition is first-order must expand when the chemical potential is turned on. This can be tested by a Taylor expansion of the critical surface (m_{u,d},m_s)_c(mu). We present a new method to perform this Taylor expansion numerically, which we first test on an effective model of QCD with static, dense quarks. We then present the results for QCD with 3 degenerate flavors. For a lattice with N_t=4 time-slices, the first-order region shrinks as the chemical potential is turned on. This implies that, for physical quark masses, the analytic crossover which occurs at mu=0 between the hadronic and the plasma regimes remains crossover in the mu-region where a Taylor expansion is reliable, i.e. mu less than or similar to T. We present preliminary results from finer lattices indicating that this situation persists, as does the discrepancy between the curvature of T_c(m_c(mu=0),mu) and the experimentally observed freeze-out curve.

Radiative charmless B_{(s)}\to V γand B_{(s)}\to A γdecays in pQCD approach

We study the radiative charmless $B_{(s)}\to V(A)γ$ decays in perturbative QCD (pQCD) approach to the leading order in $α_s$ (here $V$ and $A$ denotes vector mesons and two kinds of axial-vector mesons: $^3P_1$ and $^1P_1$ states, respectively.). Our predictions of branching ratios are consistent with the current available experimental data. We update all $B_{(s)}\to V$ form factors and give the predictions for $B\to A$ form factors using the recent hadronic inputs. In addition to the dominant factorizable spectator diagrams, which is form factor like, we also calculate the so-called ``power suppressed'' annihilation type diagrams, the gluonic penguin, charming penguin, and two photon diagrams. These diagrams give the main contributions to direct CP asymmetries, mixing-induced CP asymmetry variables, the isospin asymmetry and U-spin asymmetry variables. Unlike the branching ratios, these ratios or observables possess higher theoretical precision in our pQCD calculation, since they do not depend on the input hadronic parameters too much. Most of the results still need experimental tests in the on-going and forthcoming experiments.

CPT violations in Astrophysics and Cosmology

In this paper it is given a brief review of the current limits on the magnitude of CPT and Lorentz Invariance violations, currently predicted in connection with quantum gravity and string/M-theory, that can be derived from astrophysical and cosmological data. Even if not completely unambiguous, these observational tests of fundamental physics are complementary to the ones obtained by accelerator experiments and by ground or space based direct experiments, because potentially can access very high energies and large distances.

Revisiting the pentaquark episode for lattice QCD

This work revisits the pentaquark episode, particularly in reference to lattice QCD, to collect in one place the lessons that have been or should be learnt. This also examines whether, and if yes, where, there might be any prospect for future studies of pentaquarks and the role of lattice QCD in it. Tests such as volume dependence, and hybrid boundary conditions to distinguish bound and scattering states are identified as the positives to take forward from this episode. On the other hand it is also observed that pentaquarks with heavier quark content and in the $SU(3)_f$ limit may still be worth not forgetting, and in that case lattice QCD may have an important role to play.

Recent lattice results on finite temperature and density QCD, part I

We discuss recent progress made studies of bulk thermodynamics of strongly interacting matter through lattice simulations of QCD with an almost physical light and strange quark mass spectrum. We present results on the QCD equation of state at vanishing and non-vanishing quark chemical potential and show first results on baryon number and strangeness fluctuations, which might be measured in event-by-event fluctuations in low energy runs at RHIC as well as at FAIR.

Discovery and Identification of Contactlike Interactions in Fermion-pair Production at ILC

Non-standard scenarios described by effective contactlike interactions can be revealed only by searching for deviations of the measured observables from the Standard Model (SM) predictions. If deviations were indeed observed within the experimental uncertainty, the identification of their source among the different non-standard interactions should be needed. We here consider the example of the discrimination of gravity in compactified extra dimensions (ADD model) against the four-fermion contact interactions (CI). We present assessments of the identification reach on this scenario, that could be obtained from measurements of the differential cross sections for the fermionic processes $e^+e^-\to{\bar f}f$, with $f=e,μ,τ,c,b$, at the planned ILC.

Progress in hadron structure physics on the lattice

This is a review of progress in hadron structure physics from lattice QCD. Recent results on the structure of the nucleon and the pion in terms of (transition) form factors, moments of distribution amplitudes and (generalized) parton distribution functions are presented. These observables allow us to investigate a number of fundamental physics questions related to e.g. the distribution of charge and momentum in hadrons, the spin structure of the nucleon and the pion, and correlations between spin, orbital angular momentum and coordinate degrees of freedom. Chiral extrapolations of selected lattice results are presented and compared to results from experiment and phenomenology. We conclude that lattice simulations already today strongly contribute to our understanding of the structure of hadrons.

Massive QCD amplitudes at higher orders

We consider the factorization properties of on-shell QCD amplitudes with massive partons in the limit when all kinematical invariants are large compared to the parton mass and discuss the structure of their infrared singularities. The dimensionally regulated soft poles and the large collinear logarithms of the parton masses exponentiate to all orders. Based on this factorization a simple relation between massless and massive scattering amplitudes in gauge theories can be established. We present recent applications of this relation for the calculation of the two-loop virtual QCD corrections to the hadro-production of heavy quarks.

Progress in kaon physics on the lattice

CKM-unitarity, direct and indirect CP-violation and the ΔI=1/2 rule in full lattice QCD are the focus of this talk. To this end I will discuss and compare recent lattice results for leptonic, semi-leptonic and non-leptonic decays of the kaon and neutral kaon mixing and I will motivate current best estimates f_K/f_π=1.198(10), f_+^{Kπ}(0)=0.964(5) and \hat{B}_K=0.720(39). Moreover new theoretical advances that will improve the quality of these computations in the future will be discussed.
