Microscopic Description of K^+ Scattering on 4^He, 16^O and 40^Ca Nuclei using Meson Exchange Theory

We have calculated the total cross section for k^+-4^He, 16^O, 40^Ca, intes at incident momenta of the kaon P_lab<1GeV . We derived the K^+-nucleon optical potential according to the exchange of 3- mesons (segma, roh, omega) and also for 4- (segma, roh, omega, segma_0) exchanged between the reactants. We showed both of the radial behavior of the real and the imaginary parts of the derived potential. Comparisons between the available experimental data, other theoretical work and the calculated total cross sections for the three studied nuclei which have shown a reasonable agreement. The extended four mesons exchanged optical potential gave better close results to the experimental data. Further, ratios of the total cross sections of the studied nuclei with respect to the total cross section with the deuteron nucleus for the two applied optical potentials were given. In addition, the ratio of the theoretical result of the total cross section for the interaction of the K^+ meson with the deuteron was compared with the corresponding experimental one to evaluate our theoretical results in a more clear manner.

High energy rho meson leptoproduction

We investigate the longitudinal and transverse polarized cross-sections of the leptoproduction of the rho meson in the high energy limit. Our model is based on the computation of the impact factor gamma*(lambda_gamma) -> rho(lambda_rho) using the twist expansion in the forward limit and expressed in the impact parameter space. This treatment involves in the final stage the twist 2 and twist 3 distribution amplitudes (DAs) of the rho meson and the dipole scattering amplitude. Taking models that exist for the DAs and for the dipole cross-section, we get a phenomenological model for the helicity amplitudes, we compare our predictions with HERA data and get a fairly good description for large enough virtualities of the photon.

Description of the shape evolution in the yrast states of 186Pt

186Pt was tested in the framework of IBM-1 and the X(3) model. The results show that 186Pt is located close to the shape phase transition point, but the B(E2) values little agree with the X(3) model. The shape evolution in the yrast states of 186Pt is also discussed in detail. TRS calculation exhibits a at bottomed potential at low spin states, but a relatively deep minimum at high spin states. It suggests that a shape evolution from vibrational mode to rotational mode happens in 186Pt. The result is in agreement with the E-GOS calculation.

Shutdown Margin for High Conversion BWRs Operating in Th-233U Fuel Cycle

Several reactivity control system design options are explored in order to satisfy shutdown margin (SDM) requirements in a high conversion BWRs operating in Th-233U fuel cycle (Th-RBWR). The studied has an axially heterogeneous fuel assembly structure with a single fissile zone sandwiched between two fertile blanket zones. The utilization of an originally suggested RBWR Y-shape control rod in Th-RBWR is shown to be insufficient for maintaining adequate SDM to balance the high negative reactivity feedbacks, while maintaining fuel breeding potential, core power rating, and minimum Critical Power Ratio (CPR). Instead, an alternative assembly design, also relying on heterogeneous fuel zoning, is proposed for achieving fissile inventory ratio (FIR) above unity, adequate SDM and meeting minimum CPR limit at thermal core output matching the ABWR power. The new concept was modeled as a single 3-dimensional fuel assembly having reflective radial boundaries, using the BGCore system, which consists of the MCNP code coupled with fuel depletion and thermo-hydraulic feedback modules.

Relativistic Hard-Scattering and Tsallis Fits to pT Spectra in pp Collisions at the LHC

Motivated by the good Tsallis fits to the high-pT spectra in pp collisions at the LHC, we study the relativistic hard-scattering model and obtain an approximate analytical expression for the differential hard-scattering cross section at η~ 0. The power-law behaviour of the transverse spectra, in the form of dσ/dpT^2 \propto 1/pT^n, gives a power index n in the range of 4.5-5.5 for jet production as predicted by pQCD, after the dependencies of the structure functions and the running coupling constant are properly taken into account. The power indices for hadron production n are slightly greater than those for jet production.

Quarkonium Production and Medium Effects in High Energy Nuclear Collisions

Color screening and regeneration are both hot medium effects on quarkonium production in high energy nuclear collisions. However, they affect in an opposite way the finally observed quarkonium spectra. Due to the competition of the two dynamical effects, the ratio of the integrated quarkonium yield between nuclear and elementary nucleon collisions loses its sensitivity. Once the information of quarkonium transverse motion is included, on the other hand, the ratio of averaged transverse momentum square reveals the nature of the QCD medium created in high energy nuclear collisions.

Pairing Effects in Nuclear Fusion Reaction

We simulate a heavy-ion collision using the canonical-basis time-dependent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory (Cb-TDHFB) treating pairing correlation in the three-dimensional coordinate space. We apply the Cb-TDHFB to 22O+22O collision with a contact-type pairing energy functional, and compare results of Cb-TDHFB and TDHF to investigate the effects of pairing correlations in nuclear fusion. Our results seem to indicate that pairing effects do not increase the fusion cross section in this system.

Benchmarking the Bayesian reconstruction of the non-perturbative heavy $Q\bar{Q}$ potential

The extraction of the finite temperature heavy quark potential from lattice QCD relies on a spectral analysis of the real-time Wilson loop. Through its position and shape, the lowest lying spectral peak encodes the real and imaginary part of this complex potential. We benchmark this extraction strategy using leading order hard-thermal loop (HTL) calculations. I.e. we analytically calculate the Wilson loop and determine the corresponding spectrum. By fitting its lowest lying peak we obtain the real- and imaginary part and confirm that the knowledge of the lowest peak alone is sufficient for obtaining the potential. We deploy a novel Bayesian approach to the reconstruction of spectral functions to HTL correlators in Euclidean time and observe how well the known spectral function and values for the real and imaginary part are reproduced. Finally we apply the method to quenched lattice QCD data and perform an improved estimate of both real and imaginary part of the non-perturbative heavy $Q\bar{Q}$ potential.

Transverse Momentum Distributions at the LHC and Tsallis Thermodynamics

An overview is presented of transverse momentum distributions of particles at the LHC using the Tsallis distribution. The use of a thermodynamically consistent form of this distribution leads to an excellent description of charged and identified particles. The values of the Tsallis parameter q are truly remarkably consistent.

A new Bayesian approach to the reconstruction of spectral functions

We present a novel approach for the reconstruction of spectra from Euclidean correlator data that makes close contact to modern Bayesian concepts. It is based upon an axiomatically justified dimensionless prior distribution, which in the case of constant prior function $m(ω)$ only imprints smoothness on the reconstructed spectrum. In addition we are able to analytically integrate out the only relevant overall hyper-parameter $α$ in the prior, removing the necessity for Gaussian approximations found e.g. in the Maximum Entropy Method. Using a quasi-Newton minimizer and high-precision arithmetic, we are then able to find the unique global extremum of $P[ρ|D]$ in the full $N_ω\gg N_τ$ dimensional search space. The method actually yields gradually improving reconstruction results if the quality of the supplied input data increases, without introducing artificial peak structures, often encountered in the MEM. To support these statements we present mock data analyses for the case of zero width delta peaks and more realistic scenarios, based on the perturbative Euclidean Wilson Loop as well as the Wilson Line correlator in Coulomb gauge.

Some Intensive and Extensive Quantities in High-Energy Collisions

We review the evolution of some statistical and thermodynamical quantities measured in difference sizes of high-energy collisions at different energies. We differentiate between intensive and extensive quantities and discuss the importance of their distinguishability in characterizing possible critical phenomena of nuclear collisions at various energies with different initial conditions.

Nucleon-Nucleon Spin Dependent Scattering Amplitudes to Describe Final State Interactions in Electromagnetic and Electroweak Nuclear Processes

There are currently no models readily available that provide nucleon-nucleon spin dependent scattering amplitudes at high energies ($s \geq 6$ GeV$^2$). This work aims to provide a model for calculating these high-energy scattering amplitudes. The foundation of the model is Regge theory since it allows for a relativistic description and full spin dependence. A parameterization of the amplitudes is presented, and comparisons of the solution to the assembled data set are shown. In addition, an application of the model to describe final state interactions in deuteron electrodisintegration is presented. Overall the model works as intended, and provides an adequate description of the nucleon-nucleon interaction at these energies.

Odd-even staggering of neutron radii for neutron-rich Mg isotopes in continuum Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory

The self-consistent continuum Skyrme-Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory formulated with Green's function technique in the coordinate space is developed to investigate odd-$A$ nuclei by incorporating the blocking effect. In a calculation performed with the SLy4 parameter for the neutron-rich Mg isotopes with $A=36-42$ around the neutron shell closure N=28, the odd-even staggering in the neutron rms radius, i.e., a larger value in $^{39}$Mg than those in $^{38}$Mg and $^{40}$Mg, is found. The large neutron radius in $^{39}$Mg is due to the blocking effect on the pair correlation energy, for which the configuration occupying the weakly-bound quasiparticle state $2p_{3/2}$ becomes the ground state instead of the $1f_{7/2}$ configuration. Performing systematic calculations with different Skyrme parameters we find that the ground state configuration for the odd-$A$ Mg isotopes, and hence the odd-even staggering of neutron radii, are sensitive to the details in the single-particle spectra, especially the gap between orbits $1f_{7/2}$ and $2p_{3/2}$.

Measurement of the 92,93,94,100Mo(g,n) reactions by Coulomb Dissociation

The Coulomb Dissociation (CD) cross sections of the stable isotopes 92,94,100Mo and of the unstable isotope 93Mo were measured at the LAND/R3B setup at GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt, Germany. Experimental data on these isotopes may help to explain the problem of the underproduction of 92,94Mo and 96,98Ru in the models of p-process nucleosynthesis. The CD cross sections obtained for the stable Mo isotopes are in good agreement with experiments performed with real photons, thus validating the method of Coulomb Dissociation. The result for the reaction 93Mo(g,n) is especially important since the corresponding cross section has not been measured before. A preliminary integral Coulomb Dissociation cross section of the 94Mo(g,n) reaction is presented. Further analysis will complete the experimental database for the (g,n) production chain of the p-isotopes of molybdenum.

Yrast state band of even 120-130Te isotopes under the framework of interacting boson model -1

In this paper, nuclear structure of yrast state bands of even-even 120-130Te isotopes has been studied under the frame work of interacting boson model (IBM-1). The theoretical energy levels for Z=52, even N = 68-78 up to 12+ state have been obtained by using the MatLab 6.5 computer program. The ratio of the excitation energies of first 4+ and first 2+ excited states, R4/2, has been also calculated for those nuclei. The values of the parameters in the IBM-1 hamiltonian yield the best fit to the experimental energy spectrum. The results are compared with the most recent experimental values where an acceptable degree of agreement is achieved. Moreover, as a measure to quantify the evolution, we have studied the transition rate R of some of the low-lying quadrupole collective states in comparison to the available experimental data. In this paper, the properties of even 120-130Te isotopes have been considered to the U(5) transitional region of IBM-1.

Pre-neutron-emission mass distributions for reaction $^{238}$U(n, f) up to 60 MeV

The pre-neutron-emission mass distributions for reaction $^{238}$U(n, f) up to 60 MeV are systematically studied with an empirical fission potential model. The energy dependence of the peaks and valleys of the pre-neutron-emission mass distributions is described by an exponential form based on the newly measured data. The energy dependence of evaporation neutrons before scission is also considered, which plays a crucial role for the reasonable description of the mass distributions. The measured data for the pre-neutron-emission mass distributions for reaction $^{238}$U(n, f) are reasonably well reproduced up to 60 MeV. The mass distributions at unmeasured energies are also predicted with this approach.

The influence of magnetic field on the pion superfluidity and phase structure in the NJL model

The influence of the magnetic field on the pion superfluidity and the phase structure is analyzed in the framework of the two-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio(NJL) model. To do this, we first derive the thermodynamic potential from the Lagrangian density of the NJL model in the mean field approximation. Using this thermodynamic potential, we get the gap equation of the chiral condensate and the pion condensate. The effect of external magnetic field on the pion condensate is not simple promotion or suppression, which we will discuss in detail in the paper. It is shown that the tricritical point on the pion superfluidity phase transition line moves to the space with smaller isospin chemical potential and higher temperature when the external magnetic field becomes stronger. The influence of external magnetic field on the chiral condensate is also studied.
