Chiral-odd pion generalized parton distributions beyond leading twist

We define in a systematic way, based on the light-cone collinear factorization method, the chiral-odd generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of a pseudoscalar hadron (such as the pi0) up to twist 5. For that, we introduce the relevant matrix elements for 2-parton non-local operators, as well as matrix elements for 3-parton non-local correlators. Their detailed parametrization is fixed based on parity, charge conjugation and time reversal invariance. This leads to the introduction of 20 real GPDs, whose symmetry properties are explicitely given. The reduction of these GPDs to a minimal set is performed by the use of constraints provided by QCD equations of motion and rotation on the light-cone. We show that these 20 GPDs can be expressed through 8 GPDs which satisfy 4 integral sum rules. A surprising outcome of this analysis is the fact that, when assuming the vanishing of 3-parton correlators, as in the so-called Wandzura-Wilczek approximation, the whole set of GPDs vanishes.

Statistical Global Model of beta- Half-lives and r-Process Nucleosynthesis

Purpose: Our objective is to apply an improved statistical global model of beta^- decay half-life systematics [1] generated by machine-learning techniques to the prediction of beta half-lives relevant to r-process nuclei. The primary aim of this application is to complement existing r-process-clock and matter-flow studies, thereby providing additional theoretical support for the planning of future activities of the world's network of rare-isotope laboratories. Results: Results are presented for nuclides situated on the r-ladders at N=50, 82, and 126 where abundances peak, as well as for nuclides that affect abundances between peaks or may be relevant to r-processes under different astrophysical scenarios. The half-lives of some of the targeted neutron-rich nuclides have either been recently measured or will be accessible at rare-isotope laboratories in the relatively near future. The results of our large-scale data-driven half-life calculations (generated by a "theory-thin" global statistical model) are compared to available experimental data, including recent measurements on very neutron-rich nuclei along an r-process path far from the valley of $β$ stability. Comparison is also made with corresponding results from traditional global models derived by semi-phenomenological "theory-thick" approaches.

$ΛΛ$ interaction and hypernuclei

Data on $ΛΛ$ hypernuclei provide a unique method to learn details about the strangeness S =- 2 sector of the baryon-baryon interaction. From the free space Bonn-Jülich potentials, determined from data on baryon-baryon scattering in the S = 0, -1 channels, we construct an interaction in the S =-2 sector to describe the experimentally known LL hypernuclei. After including short-range (Jastrow) and RPA correlations, we find masses for these LL hypernuclei in a reasonable agreement with data, taking into account theoretical and experimental uncertainties. Thus, we provide a natural extension, at low energies, of the Bonn-Jülich one-boson exchange potentials to the S =-2 channel.

Relativistic symmetry in deformed nuclei by similarity renormalization group

The similarity renormalization group is used to transform a general Dirac Hamiltonian into diagonal form. The diagonal Dirac operator consists of the nonrelativistic term, the spin-orbit term, the dynamical term, and the relativistic modification of kinetic energy, which are very useful to explore the symmetries hidden in the Dirac Hamiltonian for any deformed system. As an example, the relativistic symmetries in an axially deformed nucleus are investigated by comparing the contributions of every term to the single particle energies and their correlations with the deformation. The result shows that the deformation considerably influences the spin-orbit interaction and dynamical effect, which play a critical role in the relativistic symmetries and its breaking.

Tubular initial conditions and ridge formation

The 2D azimuth & rapidity structure of the two-particle correlations in relativistic A+A collisions is altered significantly by the presence of sharp inhomogeneities in superdense matter formed in such processes. The causality constraints enforce one to associate the long-range longitudinal correlations observed in a narrow angular interval, the so-called (soft) ridge, with peculiarities of the initial conditions of collision process. This study's objective is to analyze whether multiform initial tubular structures, undergoing the subsequent hydrodynamic evolution and gradual decoupling, can form the soft ridges. Motivated by the flux-tube scenarios, the initial energy density distribution contains the different numbers of high density tube-like boost-invariant inclusions that form a bumpy structure in the transverse plane. The influence of various structures of such initial conditions in the most central A+A events on the collective evolution of matter, resulting spectra, angular particle correlations and v_n-coefficients is studied in the framework of the HydroKinetic Model (HKM).

Timelike vs spacelike DVCS from JLab, Compass to ultraperipheral collisions and AFTER@LHC

Timelike and spacelike virtual Compton scattering in the generalized Bjorken scaling regime are complementary tools to access generalized parton distributions. We stress that the gluonic contributions are by no means negligible, even in the medium energy range which will be studied intensely at JLab12 and in the COMPASS-II experiment at CERN. Ultraperipheral collisions with proton or ion beams may also be used at RHIC and at collider or fixed target experiments at LHC.

Double logarithms resummation in exclusive processes : the surprising behavior of DVCS

Double logarithms resummation has been much studied in inclusive as well as exclusive processes. The Sudakov mechanism has often be the crucial tool to exponentiate potentially large contributions to amplitudes or cross-sections near phase-space boundaries. We report on a recent work where a very different pattern emerges : the DVCS quark coefficient function C(x,ξ) develops, near the particular point x=ξ, a non-alternate series in α_s^n log^{2n}(x-ξ) which may be resummed in a cosh[K sqrt α_s log(x-ξ)] factor. This result is at odds with the known result for the corresponding coefficient function for the pion transition form factor near the end point C(z) although they are much related through a z -> x/ξcorrespondence.

Next to leading order analysis of DVCS and TCS

The study of $O(α_s)$ QCD contributions to the timelike and spacelike virtual Compton scattering amplitudes in the generalized Bjorken scaling regime demonstrates that gluonic contributions are by no means negligible even in the medium energy range which will be studied intensely at JLab12 and in the COMPASS-II experiment at CERN.

Pion photo- and electroproduction with chiral MAID

We present a calculation of pion photo- and electroproduction in manifestly Lorentz-invariant baryon chiral perturbation theory up to and including order $q^4$. We fix the low-energy constants by fitting experimental data in all available reaction channels. Our results can be accessed via a web interface, the so-called chiral MAID. We explain how our program works and how it can be used for further analysis.

Three-Nucleon Forces Revisited - Some Historical Thoughts

Historic steps in the emergence, the derivation and the use of three-nucleon forces, genuine and effective, for calculations of few-nucleon systems and of the structure of heavier nuclei are recalled. The research focus is on few-nucleon systems. The need of three-nucleon forces for a successful description of some data and the remaining puzzles of other data, not explainable despite the inclusion of three-nucleon forces, are discussed.

Comment on "Evaluation of the Pion-Nucleon Sigma Term from CHAOS Data"

The value of $59 \pm 12$ MeV for the pion-nucleon ($πN$) $Σ$ term, which Stahov, Clement, and Wagner recently extracted from the differential cross sections (DCSs) of the CHAOS Collaboration, does not match well the expectation of an enhanced (more positive) isoscalar component in the $πN$ interaction at low energies, which the rest of the modern (meson-factory) data favour. However, we have already demonstrated that the angular distribution of the CHAOS $π^+ p$ DCSs is not compatible in shape with the rest of the modern low-energy $π^+ p$ data. This problem must be addressed and resolved by the CHAOS Collaboration prior to the extrapolation of their partial-wave amplitudes into the unphysical region.

Neutrino induced meson productions in forward limit

We study neutrino-induced meson productions off the nucleon in the forward limit by applying the PCAC hypothesis to our dynamical coupled-channels (DCC) model. The DCC model reasonably describes pi N, gamma N -> pi N, eta N, K Lambda, K Sigma data in the resonance region. We give a prediction for nu N -> pi N, pi pi N, eta N, K Lambda, K Sigma$ reactions cross sections. We compare our results with those from the Rein-Sehgal model, and find a significant difference.

Extending the nuclear chart by continuum: from oxygen to titanium

Nuclear masses ranging from O to Ti isotopes are systematically investigated with relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) theory, which can provide a proper treatment of pairing correlations in the presence of the continuum. From O to Ti isotopes, there are 402 nuclei predicted to be bound by the density functional PC-PK1. For the 234 nuclei with mass measured, the root mean square (rms) deviation is 2.23 MeV. It is found that the proton drip-lines predicted with various mass models are roughly the same and basically agree with the observation. The neutron drip-lines predicted, however, are quite different. Due to the continuum couplings, the neutron drip-line nuclei predicted are extended further neutron-rich than other mass models. By comparison with finite-range droplet model (FRDM), the neutron drip-line nucleus predicted by RCHB theory has respectively 2(O), 10(Ne), 10(Na), 6(Mg), 8(Al), 6(Si), 8(P), 6(S), 14(K), 10(Ca), 10(Sc), and 12(Ti) more neutrons.

The Relativistic Green's Function Model for Quasielastic Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering

A model based on the relativistic impulse approximation for quasielastic lepton-nucleus scattering is presented. The effects of the final-state interactions (FSI) between the emitted nucleon and the residual nucleus are described by the relativistic Green's function model where FSI are treated consistently with the exclusive scattering and using the same complex optical potential. The results of the model are compared with the results of different descriptions of FSI and with available data for neutrino-nucleus scattering.

Nuclear Forces from Lattice Quantum Chromodynamics

A century of coherent experimental and theoretical investigations have uncovered the laws of nature that underly nuclear physics. The standard model of strong and electroweak interactions, with its modest number of input parameters, dictates the dynamics of the quarks and gluons - the underlying building blocks of protons, neutrons, and nuclei. While the analytic techniques of quantum field theory have played a key role in understanding the dynamics of matter in high energy processes, they encounter difficulties when applied to low-energy nuclear structure and reactions, and dense systems. Expected increases in computational resources into the exa-scale during the next decade will provide the ability to numerically compute a range of important strong interaction processes directly from QCD with quantifiable uncertainties using the technique of Lattice QCD. These calculations will refine the chiral nuclear forces that are used as input into nuclear many-body calculations, including the three- and four-nucleon interactions. I discuss the state-of-the-art Lattice QCD calculations of quantities of interest in nuclear physics, progress that is expected in the near future, and the impact upon nuclear physics.

High-resolution probes of low-resolution nuclei

Renormalization group (RG) methods used to soften Hamiltonians allow large-scale computational resources to be used to greater advantage in calculations of nuclear structure and reactions. These RG transformations lower the effective resolution of the nuclei, which raises questions about how to calculate and interpret high-momentum transfer probes of nuclear structure. Such experiments are conventionally explained in terms of short-range correlations, but these disappear with the evolution to low-momentum scales. We highlight the important issues and prospects in the context of recent developments in RG technology, with guidance from the analogous extraction of parton distributions.
