Improved Nucleon Properties in the Extended Quark Sigma Model

The quark sigma model describes the quarks interacting via exchange the pions and sigma meson fields. A new version of mesonic potential is suggested in the frame of some aspects of the quantum chromodynamics (QCD). The field equations have been solved in the mean-field approximation for the hedgehog baryon state. The obtained results are compared with previous works and other models. We conclude that the suggested mesonic potential successfully calculates nucleon properties.

Creation of the inverse population in the $^{229}$Th ground-state doublet

A new method for obtaining of inverse population between quadrupole sublevels of the ground state $5/2^+(0.0)$ and the isomeric state $3/2^+(7.6$ eV) of the $^{229}$Th nucleus in a dielectric crystal with a large band gap by means of external source of the VUV radiation is proposed. The method is based on an efficient depopulation of the upper sublevels of the ground state of $^{229}$Th by resonant photons from narrowband laser or broader tunable free electron laser. Sublevels of the isomeric state play the role of intermediate states. In addition, we have considered a case of excitation of the isomeric state (without creation of inverse population) by broadband source of light with the anti-Stokes scattering. The proposed scheme of optical pumping results in (1) inverse population of nuclear sublevels without using extremely low temperatures, and (2) shows a new way for the creation of the gamma-ray laser of optical range at the nuclear transition in $^{229}$Th (a) in crystals with isovalent substitution of host ions (eg Si$^{4+}$ ions in the SiO$_2$ crystal replaced by the $^{229}$Th$^{4+}$ ions) and (b) in crystals such as Na$_2$ThF$_6$, where the substitution is not necessary.

Updated Analysis of the Mass of the H Dibaryon from Lattice QCD

Recent lattice QCD calculations from the HAL and NPLQCD Collaborations have reported evidence for the existence of a bound state with strangeness -2 and baryon number 2 at quark masses somewhat higher than the physical values. A controlled chiral extrapolation of these lattice results to the physical point suggested that the state, identified with the famed H dibaryon, is most likely slightly unbound (by 13 $\pm$ 14 MeV) with respect to the $Λ--Λ$ threshold. We report the results of an updated analysis which finds the H unbound by 26 $\pm$ 11 MeV. Apart from the insight it would give us into how QCD is realized in Nature, the H is of great interest because of its potential implications for the equation of state of dense matter and studies of neutron stars. It may also explain the enhancement above the $Λ--Λ$ threshold already reported experimentally. It is clearly of great importance that the latter be pursued in experiments at the new J-PARC facility.

Pairing strength on the nuclear size in relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov theory

The influence of pairing correlations on the nuclear size and in particular on the formation of nuclear halos is studied in the framework of relativistic continuum Hartree-Bogoliubov (RCHB) theory. It turns out that the contributions from the weakly-bound orbits with low orbital angular momenta $l$ play an important role. As an example, we investigate the neutron-rich Mg isotopes as a function of the pairing strength in situations, where the neuron Fermi surface are below, between and above two weakly-bound $2p$ levels. We find that the size of the pairing correlations has a two-fold influence on the density distribution of the neutrons and therefore on the total nuclear size. First it can change the root mean square (rms) radius of the individual weakly-bound orbits and second it can enhance the occupation probabilities of these orbits in the nuclear system. On one side increasing pairing correlations reduce the rms radii of the orbits with small orbital angular momenta close to the continuum limit (pairing anti-halo effect), on the other side they also can lead to an enhanced occupation of low-$l$ orbits above the Fermi surface producing in this way a strong increase of the total radius of the nuclear system. As a consequence, a nuclear halo can form even in cases, where non of the individual low-$l$ orbits is very close to the continuum. This leads to the fact that compared with well-bound nuclei, the impact of the pairing strength on the nuclear size is more pronounced in weakly-bound nuclei than in well-bound systems.

Proton-nucleus collisions at LHC energy in the Monte Carlo model

A Monte Carlo model, initially developed for soft pp and AA collisions at high energy, is applied for proton-lead interaction at the LHC energy. Elementary collisions are implemented at the partonic level and do not involve the usual Glauber supposition of independent nucleon-nucleon collisions. The average number of participating nucleons and charged multiplicity in p-Pb collisions were calculated and compared with the predictions of Glauber model and experimental data. It was demonstrated that taking into account the energy conservation results in the number of participating nucleons considerably lower than in the Glauber approach. Different ways of centrality determination in pA are discussed and the influence of the methods of centrality definition on mean observables and their variances is studied.

Stability windows at finite temperature

The assumption underlying the existence of quark stars is based on the Bodmer-Witten conjecture. These authors have claimed that it is possible that the interior of a neutron-like star does not consist primarily of hadrons, but rather of the strange matter (SM). Strange matter is composed of deconfined quarks, including up, down and strange quarks, plus the leptons necessary to ensure charge neutrality and β-equilibrium. This possibility arises because a phase transition from hadronic to quark phase is possible at densities present in the interior of neutron stars. It has been argued that strange matter is the true ground state of all matter. If this is the case, as soon as the core of the star converts to the quark phase, the entire star converts. SM was first considered in calculations obtained within the MIT bag model framework. More sophisticated treatments for SM, based on the quark-mass density dependent model is considered in this work. We discuss next the following models for proto-quark stars: the QMDD model, and the MIT bag model.

Event-by-event Hydrodynamic Simulations for Relativistic Heavy-ion Collisions

In this thesis, I show my Ph.D. work on event-by-event hydrodynamic simulations for relativistic heavy-ion collision. I show that event-by-event hydrodynamic simulations have become an indispensable tool for studying relativistic heavy-ion collisions and how it can be used to explain many phenomena. Different chapters focus on different topics; it mainly includes: Chap 2: comparison between single-shot hydrodynamics event-by-event hydrodynamic simulations. Chap 3: using the elliptic and triangular flow data measured by the ALICE collaboration at the LHC to constrain initial condition models. Chap 4: study on correlations between event-plane angles. Chap 5: how resonance decay calculation can be speed up by a factor of 10. Chap 6: study on fluctuations of event planes angle Ψn(pT) and their theoretical and experimental consequences. Chap 7: sampling particles according to the Cooper-Frye formula.

Restoration of Chiral Symmetry from a Boundary

The imposition of Dirichlet boundary conditions in lattice computations obstructs the formation of a chiral condensate. We use chiral perturbation theory and meson models to address the effect of a Dirichlet boundary on chiral symmetry breaking. While pions are the longest-range modes in QCD, the restoration of chiral symmetry due to a boundary is shown not to depend upon the pion Compton wavelength but rather on that of the sigma meson. Power-law finite size corrections are exposed, and require prohibitively large lattices to overcome. We further speculate on the frustration of the chiral condensate for the case of confinement to the surface of a sphere.

Flow in p-Pb collisions at the LHC

We present the predictions of a hydrodynamic model for the flow observables recently measured in the highest-multiplicity p+Pb collisions at the LHC. We focus o the ridge phenomenon, which provides an important probe of the long-range dynamics and may be used to support the collective interpretation of the p+A data.

We present a short overview of our recent theoretical developments aiming at the description of exotic nuclear phenomena to be reached and studied at the next-generation radioactive beam facilities. Applications to nuclear shell structure and response of nuclei at the limits of their existence, with a special focus on the physics cases of astrophysical importance, are discussed.

Nuclear Jacobi and Poincaré Transitions at High Spins and Temperatures: Account~of~Dynamic~Effects~and~Large-Amplitude Motion

We present a theoretical analysis of the competition between so-called nuclear Jacobi and Poincaré shape transitions in function of spin - at high temperatures. The latter condition implies the method of choice - a realistic version of the nuclear Liquid Drop Model (LDM), here: the Lublin-Strasbourg Drop (LSD) model. We address specifically the fact that the Jacobi and Poincaré shape transitions are accompanied by the flattening of total nuclear energy landscape as function of the relevant deformation parameters what enforces large amplitude oscillation modes that need to be taken into account. For that purpose we introduce an approximate form of the collective Schrödinger equation whose solutions are used to calculate the most probable deformations associated with both types of transitions and discuss the physical consequences in terms of the associated critical-spin values and transitions themselves.

We present an overview of the status of the studies related to the phase diagram of strong interactions through high-energy nuclear collisions. We discuss both the theoretical and experimental status of establishing the various QCD phase structures in the phase diagram, such as, quark-gluon phase, quark-hadron crossover, crossover temperature, phase boundary and critical point.

A semiclassical collective response of heated, asymmetric and rotating nuclei

The Landau Fermi-liquid and extended Gutzwiller periodic-orbit theories are presented for the semiclassical description of collective excitations in nuclei, which are close to main topics of the fruitful activity of S.T. Belyaev. Static susceptibilities show the ergodicity of Fermi liquids. Transport coefficients (nuclear friction and inertia) as functions of the temperature for the hydrodynamic and zero-sound modes are derived within the response theory by using the Fermi-liquid droplet model, in agreement with the shell model for large temperatures. The surface symmetry binding-energy constants are obtained as functions of Skyrme force parameters in the approximation of a sharp edged proton-neutron asymmetric nucleus. The energies and sum rules of the isovector dipole giant resonances are in fairly good agreement with the experimental data. An analysis of the specific structure of these resonances in terms of a main, and satellite peaks, in comparison with the experimental data and microscopic theoretical models, might turn out to be of importance for a better understanding of the values of the surface symmetry-energy constant. The semiclassical collective moment of inertia is derived analytically beyond the quantum perturbation approximation of the cranking model for any potential well as a mean field. It is shown that this moment of inertia can be approximated by its rigid-body value for the rotation with a given frequency within the ETF and more general periodic orbit theories in the nearly local long-length approximation. Its semiclassical shell-structure components are derived in terms of the periodic-orbit free-energy shell corrections. We obtained good agreement between the semiclassical and quantum shell-structure components of the moment of inertia for several critical bifurcation deformations for the harmonic oscillator mean field.

Quark-Gluon plasma fireball evolution with one loop correction in the peshier potential

The study of free energy evolution of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) with one loop correction factor in the peshier potential is discussed. The energy evolution with the effect of the correction factor in peshier potential shows the transition temperature obtained in the range of temperature~$T=180-250~MeV$. The transition temperature is also effected with the decrease of dynamical flow parameter of quark and gluon used in the potential and it shows the observable QGP droplets of the stable size of fermi radius viz $2.5-4.5 fm$.

Barrier penetration effects in the triple-alpha reaction at low energies

We investigate the triple-alpha reaction at low energies, by assuming a direct process. The Coulomb potential of three $α$ particles is examined carefully. The three-body continuum wave functions are generated by calculating an adiabatic potential barrier. We discuss the influence of the $αα$ potential, and compare our reaction rates with the literature. The reaction rate at $T=0.01$\,GK is about 10$^3$ times larger than that of NACRE.

Critical Point and Deconfinement from Dyson-Schwinger Equations

We employ the Dyson-Schwinger equations for quark and gluon propagators in order to study QCD with 2+1 flavours at finite temperature and density. In a suitable truncation for these equations, we determine the position of the critical end-point as well as the deconfinement temperature at all chemical potentials. For the latter, the Polyakov-loop potential is obtained from the QCD propagators. This is possible for the first time at finite chemical potential, with implications for effective models.

Phase Structure of QCD Matter in a Chiral Effective Model with Quarks

Using a unified hadron-quark effective model for the QCD equation of state, this paper studies the phase structure of strongly interacting matter in a wide range of temperature and baryonchemical potential. At small potentials the model yields a smooth cross-over to chirally restored matter with a transition temperature and curvature in line with recent lattice QCD estimates and thermal model fits of freeze-out curves. Trajectories of constant entropy per net baryon number show a clear dependence on the particle composition in the model and on repulsive vector field interactions. Although the model might feature a critical end-point at a rather high baryonchemical potential and low temperature, probing it in heavy-ion collisions might be highly challenging due to a large thermodynamic spread of matter in the collision fireball.

Rotational properties in even-even superheavy $^{254-258}$Rf nuclei based on total-Routhian-surface calculations

High-spin yrast structures of even-even superheavy nuclei $^{254-258}$Rf are investigated by means of total-Routhian-surface approach in three-dimensional ($β_2, γ, β_4$) space. The behavior in the moments of inertia of $^{256}$Rf is well reproduced by our calculations, which is attributed to the $j_{15/2}$ neutron rotation-alignment. The competition between rotationally aligned $i_{13/2}$ proton and $j_{15/2}$ neutron is discussed. High-spin predictions are also made for its neighboring isotopes $^{254,258}$Rf.
