Role of Magnetic Interaction in Dense Plasma

Quasiparticle excitations and associated phenomena of energy and momentum transfer rates have been calculated in terms of the drag and the diffusion coefficients exposing clearly the dominance of the magnetic interaction over its electric counterpart. The results have been compared with the finite temperature results highlighting the similarities and dissimilarities in the two extreme regimes of temperature and density. Non-Fermi-liquid behavior of various physical quantities like neutrino mean free path and thermal relaxation time due to the inclusion of magnetic interaction has clearly been revealed. All the results presented in the current review are pertinent to the degenerate and ultradegenerate plasma.

CompOSE - CompStar Online Supernovae Equations of State

This paper is the manual of the CompOSE service, see http://compose.obspm.fr, an equation of state (EoS) database for use in nuclear physics and in astrophysical applications, e.g. the simulation of core-collapse supernovae and compact stars. The main aims of the service are the following: to offer a robust, easily extendable data format to store and read EoS data tables and related physical quantities; to make these data available to the public -- respecting the original work by the contributors -- in a standard format designed for easy access and flexibility; and to provide routines to interpolate these data in the parameter space of density, temperature and hadronic charge fraction. The manual contains a detailed description of the service. It is divided into three parts, containing a general introduction as well as instructions for potential contributors and for users.

Anomalous-Magnetic-Moment Effects in a Strongly Magnetized and Dense Medium

We investigate the quantum corrections of the anomalous magnetic moment (AMM) for fermions in the presence of a strong magnetic field using the Ritus's approach. At strong fields the particles get different AMM's depending on the LL's. This result is different from what is obtained with the Schwinger's approximation at weak field where the AMM is independent of the LL. We analyze the significance of the AMM contribution to the Equation of State (EoS) of the magnetized system, in the weak and strong field approximations.

Deconfinement of strangeness and freeze-out from charge fluctuations

We use Lattice QCD calculations of fluctuations and correlations of various conserved charges to show that the deconfinement of strangeness takes place in the chiral crossover region of QCD; however, inside the quark-gluon plasma strange quarks remain strongly interacting at least up to temperatures twice the QCD crossover temperature. Further, we discuss how the freeze-out parameters of heavy-ion collisions can be determined in a model-independent way through direct comparisons between experimentally measured higher order cumulants of conserved charges and corresponding Lattice QCD calculations. Utilizing the preliminary data from the STAR and PHENIX experiments we illustrate this method. Although, the Lattice QCD based determinations of the freeze-out parameters utilizing data sets of different experiments and different observables are currently not consistent with each other, it is tantalizing to see that all the observed freeze-out parameters lie very close to the chiral/deconfinement crossover region of QCD.

Variational approach to the inhomogeneous chiral phase in quark matter

The inhomogeneous chiral phase is discussed in QCD at finite temperature and/or density. We study the phase diagram on the density-temperature plane by taking into account the effect of the current mass by a variational method. It is demonstrated that our framework well describes the inhomogeneous phase over the whole phase region.

Eccentricity is not the only source of elliptic flow fluctuations

Sources of event-by-event elliptic flow fluctuations in relativistic heavy-ion collisions are investigated in a multiphase transport model. Besides the well-known initial eccentricity fluctuations, several other sources of dynamical fluctuations are identified. One is fluctuations in initial parton configurations at a given eccentricity. Second is quantum fluctuations in parton interactions during system evolution. Third is fluctuations caused by hadronization and final-state hadronic scatterings. The magnitudes of these fluctuations are investigated relative to eccentricity fluctuations and average flow magnitude. The fluctuations from the latter two sources are found to be negative. The results may have important implications to the interpretation of elliptic flow data.

Neutron Star Matter

In this presentation I discuss two aspects of the neutron-matter equation of state. One relates to the symmetry energy of nuclear matter and empirical constraints on its slope parameter at saturation density. The second deals with spatially inhomogeneous chiral phases of deconfined quark matter in the inner core of a neutron star.

BEC-BCS Crossover and the EoS of Strongly Interacting Systems

We show that at sufficiently strong coupling, quarks form a BEC system that does not collapse into a pressureless gas at zero temperature only if the diquark-diquark repulsion is self-consistently taken into account. It is found that there is a critical value of the coupling constant of the diquark-diquark interaction beyond which the tendency at zero temperature of the strongly interacting diquark gas to condense into the system ground state with zero momentum is compensated by the repulsion between diquarks so keeping a positive pressure with no significant variation along the whole strongly interacting region. We discuss possible implications of the diquark-diquark interaction for the astrophysics of compact stars. Also we analyze the effect of a strong magnetic field for the BEC-BCS crossover.

Hyperon Stars in Strong Magnetic Fields

We investigate the effects of strong magnetic fields on the properties of hyperon stars. The matter is described by a hadronic model with parametric coupling. The matter is considered to be at zero temperature, charge neutral, beta-equilibrated, containing the baryonic octet, electrons and muons. The charged particles have their orbital motions Landau-quantized in the presence of strong magnetic fields (SMF). Two parametrisations of a chemical potential dependent static magnetic field are considered, reaching $1-2 \times 10^{18}\,G$ in the center of the star. Finally, the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkov (TOV) equations are solved to obtain the mass-radius relation and population of the stars.

Magnetic Field Effects in Fermion Pairings

This paper considers various fermion pairings of interest for the QCD phases. The effects of an external magnetic field on the pairing mechanisms, on the realization of new condensates, and on the properties of the magnetized phases are all explored and discussed.

Deconfinement transition in protoneutron star cores: Analysis within the MIT Bag model

We analyze the effect of color superconductivity in the transition from hot hadron matter to quark matter in the presence of a gas of trapped electron neutrinos. We adopt a two-phase picture in which the hadronic phase is described trough a nonlinear Walecka model and just deconfined matter through the MIT bag model including color superconductivity. We compare the present results with those obtained within the NJL model.

Relativistic Viscous Hydrodynamics for High Energy Heavy Ion Collisions

It has been over a decade since the first experimental data from gold nuclei collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider suggested hydrodynamic behavior. While early ideal hydrodynamical models were surprisingly accurate in their predictions, they ignored that the large longitudinal velocity gradient meant that even small shear viscosity would produce large corrections to the transverse dynamics. In addition, much less was known about the equation of state predicted by lattice calculations of quantum chromodynamics, which predicts a soft region as the degrees of freedom change from quarks to hadrons but no first-order phase transition. Furthermore, the effects of late, dilute stage rescattering were handled within the hydrodynamic framework to temperatures where local kinetic equilibrium is difficult to justify. This dissertation presents a three-dimensional viscous hydrodynamics code with a realistic equation of state coupled consistently to a hadron resonance gas calculation. The code presented here is capable of making significant comparisons to experimental data as part of an effort to learn about the structure of experimental constraints on the microscopic interactions of dense, hot quark matter.

The description of $^{150}$Nd Nucleus by a new alternative scheme

A new scheme was recently proposed in which the usual SU(3) quadrupole-quadrupole interaction was replaced by an O(6) cubic interaction in the Interacting Boson Model, and also successfully applied to the description of $^{152}$Sm for the N = 90 rare earth isotones with X(5) symmetry. By using this new scheme, in the present work, we further explore the properties of another candidate of $^{150}$Nd for the N=90 with X(5) symmetry. The low-lying energy levels and E2 transition rates are calculated and compared with the experimental data. The results show that the new scheme can also reasonably describe the experimental low-lying spectrum and the intraband and the interband E2 transitions for $^{150}$Nd. However, for the low-lying spectrum, the O(6) cubic interaction seems better in describing the energy levels, especially in higher excited states and $γ$ band, yet the $0^{+}_{2}$ level within the $β$ band is lower than the corresponding experimental value and, the U(5)-SU(3) scheme seems better to describe the low-lying levels of $β$ band; and for the B(E2) transition, for the intraband transitions within the ground band and some interband transitions between the $β$ band and the ground band, the results from O(6) cubic interaction are better than those from SU(3) quadrupole-quadrupole interaction, yet of which seems better to describe the intraband E2 transitions within $β$ band. The present work is very meaningful in helping us to deeply understand the new characteristics of symmetry by the higher order O(6) cubic interaction.

A different nature between the radio AXPs in comparison to the others SGRs/AXPs

SGRs/AXPs are considered a subclass of pulsars powered by magnetic energy and not by rotation, as normal radio pulsars. They are understood as strongly magnetized neutron star, with large periods of rotation $P\sim(2-12)$ s, and large spin-down, with typical $\dot{P}\sim(10^{-13}-10^{-10})$ s/s in contrast to $\dot{P}\sim10^{-15}$ s for ordinary pulsars. Their persistent X-ray luminosity, as well as the bursts and flares typical of these sources, are instead believed to be powered by the decay of their ultrastrong magnetic field. SGRs/AXPs typically have a larger X-ray luminosity that can not be explained by their spin-down luminosity ($L_X>\dot{E}_{\rm rot}$), unlike rotation-powered pulsars. However, the recent discovery of radio-pulsed emission in four of this class of sources, where the spin-down rotational energy lost $\dot{E}_{\rm rot}$ is larger than the X-ray luminosity $L_X$ during the quiescent state - as in normal pulsars - opens the question of the nature of these radio sources in comparison to the others of this class. In this contribution, we show that the radio SGRs/AXPs obey a linear log-log relation between $L_X$ and $\dot{E}_{\rm rot}$, very similar to the one satisfied by X-ray and gamma-ray neutron star pulsars, suggesting their neutron star nature. Furthermore, we show that almost all the high-B pulsars are also near the line found for the radio AXPs. In contrast, for almost all the others SGRs/AXPs, $\log L_X$ does not vary too much as function of $\log \dot{E}_{\rm rot}$, a phenomenology not shared by X-ray neutron star pulsars, suggesting a different nature for these sources.

Origin and properties of strong inter-nucleon interactions

I start with a historical review of the attempts to construct theories for the origin of nuclear forces, for which I also summaries the most important properties. The review then shifts to its main focus, which is the chiral effective field theory approach to nuclear forces. I summarize the current status of this approach and discuss the most important open issues: the proper renormalization of the chiral two-nucleon potential and sub-leading three-nucleon forces.

Understanding Nuclei in the upper sd - shell

Nuclei in the upper-$sd$ shell usually exhibit characteristics of spherical single particle excitations. In the recent years, employment of sophisticated techniques of gamma spectroscopy has led to observation of high spin states of several nuclei near A$\simeq$ 40. In a few of them multiparticle, multihole rotational states coexist with states of single particle nature. We have studied a few nuclei in this mass region experimentally, using various campaigns of the Indian National Gamma Array setup. We have compared and combined our empirical observations with the large-scale shell model results to interpret the structure of these nuclei. Indication of population of states of large deformation has been found in our data. This gives us an opportunity to investigate the interplay of single particle and collective degrees of freedom in this mass region.
