Status of the lower spins in the Rarita-Schwinger four-vector spinor $ψ_μ$ within the method of the combined Lorentz- and Poincaré invariant projectors

We investigate the status of the lower spin-1/2 companions to spin-3/2 within the four-vector spinor, $ψ_μ$. According to its reducibility, $ψ_μ\longrightarrow \left[(1/2,1)\oplus (1,1/2)\right]\oplus [(1/2,0)\oplus (0,1/2)]$ this representation space contains two spin-1/2 sectors, the first one transforming as a genuine Dirac-spinor, $(1/2,0)\oplus (0,1/2)$, and the second as the companion to spin-3/2 in $(1/2,1)\oplus (1,1/2)$. In order to correctly identify the covariant spin-1/2 degrees of freedom in the Rarita-Schwinger field of interest we exploit the properties of the Casimir invariants of the Lorentz algebra to distinguish between the irreducible Dirac- and $(1/2,1)\oplus (1,1/2)$ representation spaces and construct corresponding momentum-independent (static) projectors which we then combine with a dynamical spin-1/2 Poincaré covariant projector. In so doing we obtain two spin-1/2 wave equation, and prove them to be causal within an electromagnetic field. We furthermore calculate Compton scattering off each one of the above states, and find that the amplitudes corresponding to the first spin-1/2 are identical to those of a Dirac particle and conclude on the observability of this state. Also for the second spin-1/2 we find finite cross sections in all directions in the ultra-relativistic limit, and conclude that its observability is not excluded neither by causality of propagation within an electromagnetic environment, nor by unitarity of the Compton scattering amplitudes in the ultraviolet. Finally, we notice that the method of the combined Lorentz- and Poincaré invariant projectors could be instrumental in opening a new avenue toward the consistent description of any spin by means of second order Lagrangians written in terms of sufficiently large reducible representation spaces equipped with separate Lorentz-- and Dirac indices.

Isospin mixing within the multi-reference nuclear density functional theory and beyond - selected aspects

The results of systematic calculations of isospin-symmetry-breaking corrections to superallowed beta-decays based on the self-consistent isospin- and angular-momentum-projected nuclear density functional theory (DFT) are reviewed with an emphasis on theoretical uncertainties of the model. Extensions of the formalism towards no core shell model approach with basis cutoff scheme dictated by the self-consistent particle-hole DFT solutions will be also discussed.

Population of rotational states in the ground-band of fission fragments

The population of rotational states in the ground-state band of neutron-rich fragments emitted in the spontaneous fission of $^{252}$Cf is described within a time-dependent quantum model similar to the one used for Coulomb excitation. The initial population probability of the states included in the selected basis is calculated according to the bending model at scission. Subsequently these initial amplitudes are feeding the coupled dynamical equations describing the population of rotational states in both fragments during the tunneling and post-barrier (pure Coulomb) motion. As application we consider the high yield Mo-Ba pair for different number of emitted neutrons.

Implications of PSR J1614-2230 for NJL hybrid star

The recent determination of the mass of the pulsar PSR J1614-2230 with $1.97 \pm 0.04 M_\odot$ by \cite{Demorest}, renewed the discussions about the possibility of exotic matter being present at the core of neutron stars. Since the description of matter at densities beyond nuclear saturation is model dependent, several works have explored different aspects of the fact that the maximum neutron star mass implied by any equation of state (EoS) must exceed the mass of PSR J1614-2230. In this article we present an extensive study of hybrid star masses using several parametrizations of a relativistic mean-field hadronic EoS together with a typical three-flavor NJL model with scalar, vector and 't Hooft interactions as realized.

Reaction and structure effects of light mass nuclei using Glauber model with relativistic and non relativistic simple effective interaction densities

We study the structural properties of some nuclei in the region of light mass using simple effective interaction in the frame work of microscopic non relativistic Hartree-Fock and relativistic mean field formalism. For the reaction dynamics, well known Glauber model is used with the conjunctions of the densities obtained from these formalism. We observe good agreement of results by both the formalism in comparison to the experimental values. These two different approaches seems to be equally capable to reproduce the ground state properties of nuclei in this region. A careful study of reaction dynamics suggest the superiority of relativistic mean field over the Hartree-Fock with simple effective interaction densities. But good agreement of reaction cross section is appeared with simple effective interaction density for halo nuclear systems. The possibility of existence of bubble nuclei are also studied using both the formalism.

Phase structure of hadronic and Polyakov-loop extended NJL model at finite isospin density

It is believed that there exists a rich phase structure of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) at finite temperature and baryon density, namely, the deconfinement process from hadron gas to quark-gluon plasma, the transition from chiral symmetry breaking phase to the symmetry restoration phase, and the color superconductivity at low temperature and high baryon density. In the present work we study the hadron-quark phase transition by investigating the binodal surface and extending it to finite temperature in order to mimic the QCD phase diagram. In order to obtain these conditions we use different models for the two possible phases, namely the quark and hadron phases. The phase separation boundary (binodal) is determined by the Gibbs criteria for phase equilibrium. The boundaries of the mixed phase and the related critical points for symmetric and asymmetric matter are obtained. Isospin effects appear to be rather significant. The critical endpoint (CEP) and the phase structure are also studied in the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model.

Superconducting phases of strange quark matter in the NJL model

We analyze the color-flavor-locked phase of strange quark matter modelled by the three-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) framework with and without magnetic field and discuss some additional constraints on the stability scenario when a high magnetic field is applied. We compare the results obtained by employing the MIT Bag Model and discuss the pairing gap behavior and its influence on the equation of state.

Skyrme effective pseudopotential up to next-to-next-to leading order

The explicit form of the next-to-next-to-leading order (N2LO) of the Skyrme effective pseudopotential compatible with all required symmetries and especially with gauge invariance is presented in Cartesian basis. It is shown in particular that for such a particular pseudopotential there is no spin-orbit contribution and that the D-wave term suggested in the original Skyrme's formulation does not satisfy the invariance properties. The six new N2LO terms contribute to both the equation of state and Landau parameters. These contributions to symmetric nuclear matter are explicitly given and discussed.

Chiral Transition Within Effective Quark Models under Strong Magnetic Fields

In the recently years it has been argued that spectators in heavy ion collisions are responsible for creating a strong magnetic field that could play an important role in the QCD phase transition. In this work we use the SU(2) Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model in order to study the chiral transition in quark matter subject to a strong magnetic field. We show some results involving the breaking of chiral symmetry and its restoration at finite temperature and density.

Nuclear matter EOS with light clusters within the mean-field approximation

The crust of a neutron star is essentially determined by the low-density region ($ρ<ρ_0\approx0.15-0.16\unit{fm}^{-3}$) of the equation of state. At the bottom of the inner crust, where the density is $ρ\lesssim0.1ρ_0$, the formation of light clusters in nuclear matter will be energetically favorable at finite temperature. At very low densities and moderate temperatures, the few body correlations are expected to become important and light nuclei like deuterons, tritons, helions and $α$-particles will form. Due to Pauli blocking, these clusters will dissolve at higher densities $ρ\gtrsim 0.1ρ_0$. The presence of these clusters influences the cooling process and quantities, such as the neutrino emissivity and gravitational waves emission. The dissolution density of these light clusters, treated as point-like particles, will be studied within the Relativistic Mean Field approximation. In particular, the dependence of the dissolution density on the clusters-meson couplings is studied.

Excitation Function of the nat-Ta(p,x)178m2-Hf Reaction

178m2-Hf is an extremely interesting isomeric state due to its potential energy capacity level. One possible way to obtain it is by irradiation of a nat-Ta sample with a high-current proton accelerator. Up to now, there was no information in the international experimental nuclear data base (EXFOR) for this reaction. Irradiations of nat-Ta samples performed for other purposes provide an opportunity to address this question. This paper presents the 172m2-Hf independent production cross-sections determined by gamma-ray spectrometry. The nat-Ta(p,x)172m2-Hf excitation function is studied in the 20-3500 MeV energy range. Comparisons with results by several nuclear models (ISABEL, Bertini, INCL4.5+ABLA07, PHITS, CASCADE07, and CEM03.02) used as event-generators in modern transport codes are also reported. However, since such models are generally not able to separately predict ground and isomeric states of reaction products, only 178-Hf independent and cumulative cross-section data are compared.

Dark matter effect on the mass measurement of neutron stars

Newly-determined mass of 1.97 $\pm$ 0.04 $M_{\odot}$ for PSR J1614-2230 has been a challenge for the neutron star with a hyperon core (namely hyperon star), since hyperons usually reduce the theoretical maximum mass of the star. In this article, we consider dark matter as another possible constituent in hyperon stars' interior to loose this mass constrain. We take dark matter as self-interacting Fermi gas with certain repulsive interaction among the dark matter particles and non-interaction between dark matter and ordinary matter as is generally assumed. We find that the star maximum mass is sensitive to the particle mass of dark matter, and a high enough star mass larger than 2 $M_{\odot}$ could be achieved when the particle mass is small enough. In this particular model, a strong upper limit 0.64 GeV for dark matter mass is obtained in strongly-interacting dark matter and 0.16 GeV for dark matter mass in weakly-interacting dark matter. Dark matter accumulated around the star could also contribute to the mass measurement, however, such contribution could be safely ignored when the generally used dark matter density is assumed.

Coupling constant for $Λ(1405)\bar{K}N$

The value of the $Λ(1405){\bar K}N$ coupling constant $g_{Λ(1405)\bar{K}N}$ is obtained by fitting it to the experimental data on the total cross sections of the $K^-p \to π^0Σ^0$ reaction. On the basis of an effective Lagrangian approach and isobar model, we show that the value $|g_{Λ(1405)\bar{K}N}| = 1.51 \pm 0.10$ could be extracted from the available experimental data by assuming that the $s-$channel $Λ(1405)$ resonance plays a dominant role, whereas, the background contributions from the $s-$channel $Λ(1115)$, $t-$channel $K^*$ and $u-$channel nucleon pole processes are small and can be neglected. However, the $u-$channel nucleon pole diagram may also give an important contribution in the present calculations. After the background contributions are taken into account, the above value of $g_{Λ(1405)\bar{K}N}$ is reduced to $|g_{Λ(1405)\bar{K}N}| = 0.77 \pm 0.07$, which is not supported by the previous calculations and the recent CLAS measurements. The theoretical calculations on differential cross sections are also presented, which can be checked by future experiments.

Heavy ion collisions in the 1A GeV regime: how well do we join up to astrophysics?

The derivation of information useful for understanding the physics inside compact stars from HIC observations is a difficult task. Complications due to finite size, different chemistry, non-adiabatic compression, incomplete stopping and structural effects must be overcome. This can only be convincingly achieved by a successful simulation of many experimental observables varying incident energy, system size and isospin content. Using now available systematic FOPI data in the SIS energy range we try to trace the path to take.

How neutron stars constrain the nuclear equation of state

Recent neutron star observations set new constraints for the equation of state of baryonic matter. A chiral effective field theory approach is used for the description of neutron-dominated nuclear matter present in the outer core of neutron stars. Possible hybrid stars with quark matter in the inner core are discussed using a three-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model.

A Divergence-Free Method to Extract Observables from Meson Correlation Functions

Correlation functions provide information on the properties of mesons in vacuum and of hot nuclear matter. In this Letter, we present a new method to derive a well-defined spectral representation for correlation functions. Combining this method with the quark gap equation and the inhomogeneous Bethe-Salpeter equation in the rainbow-ladder approximation, we calculate in-vacuum masses of light mesons and the electrical conductivity of the quark-gluon plasma. The analysis can be extended to other observables of strong-interaction systems.

Density dependent magnetic field and the equation of state of hyperonic matter

We are interested on the effects, caused by strong variable density dependent magnetic fields, on hyperonic matter, its symmetry energy, equations of state and mass-radius relations. The inclusion of the anomalous magnetic moment of the particles involved in a stellar system is performed, and some results are compared with the cases that do not take this correction under consideration. The Lagrangian density used follows the nonlinear Walecka model plus the leptons subjected to an external magnetic field.

Describing SGRs/AXPs as fast and magnetized white dwarfs

Over the last decade, observational evidence has mounted that SGRs/AXPs belong to a particular class of pulsars. Furthermore, fast and very magnetic white dwarfs have been observed, and recently two SGRs with low magnetic fields $B\sim(10^{12}-10^{13})$ G, namely SGR 0418+5729 and Swift J1822.3-1606 were discovered with a period of $P\sim9.08$ s and $P\sim8.44$ s, respectively. These new discoveries opens the question of the nature of SGRs/AXPs, emerging alternative scenarios, in particular the white dwarf (WD) pulsar model. These astronomical observations have based an alternative description of the SGRs/AXPs expressed on rotating highly magnetized and very massive WDs. In this new description, several observational properties are easy understood and well explained as a consequence of the large radius of a massive white dwarf that manifests a new scale of mass density, moment of inertia, rotational energy, and magnetic dipole moment in comparison with the case of neutron stars. In this contribution, we will show that these recent discoveries of SGRs with low magnetic field share some properties with the recent detected fast WD pulsar AE Aquarii, and also with RXJ 0648.0-4418, and EUVE J0317-855, supporting the understanding of at least these SGRs with low-B as belonging to a class of very fast and magnetic massive WDs. Furthermore, these recent astronomical observations suggest that we should revisit the real nature of AXP/SGRs: are they really magnetars or very fast and massive white dwarfs?
