An Efficient Active Set Algorithm for Covariance Based Joint Data and Activity Detection for Massive Random Access with Massive MIMO

This paper proposes a computationally efficient algorithm to solve the joint data and activity detection problem for massive random access with massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO). The BS acquires the active devices and their data by detecting the transmitted preassigned nonorthogonal signature sequences. This paper employs a covariance based approach that formulates the detection problem as a maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) problem. To efficiently solve the problem, this paper designs a novel iterative algorithm with low complexity in the regime where the device activity pattern is sparse $\unicode{x2013}$ a key feature that existing algorithmic designs have not previously exploited for reducing complexity. Specifically, at each iteration, the proposed algorithm focuses on only a small subset of all potential sequences, namely the active set, which contains a few most likely active sequences (i.e., transmitted sequences by all active devices), and performs the detection for the sequences in the active set. The active set is carefully selected at each iteration based on the current detection result and the first-order optimality condition of the MLE problem. Simulation results show that the proposed active set algorithm enjoys significantly better computational efficiency (in terms of the CPU time) than the state-of-the-art algorithms.

Equal-time kinetic equations in a rotational field

We investigate quantum kinetic theory for a massive fermion system under a rotational field. From the Dirac equation in curved space we derive the complete set of kinetic equations for the spin components of the covariant and equal-time Wigner functions. While the particles are no longer on a mass shell in general case due to the rotation-spin coupling, there are always only two independent components, which can be taken as the number and spin densities. With the help from the off-shell constraint we obtain the closed transport equations for the two independent components in classical limit and at quantum level. The classical rotation-orbital coupling controls the dynamical evolution of the number density, but the quantum rotation-spin coupling explicitly changes the spin density.

Spin Polarization Induced by Inhomogeneous Dynamical Condensate

The role of dynamical chiral condensate in spin polarization is investigated in a kinetic theory framework. Transport equations for quark matter are derived in the mean-field approximation for the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. The dynamical condensate carries part of the energy momentum tensor (EMT) and the angular momentum tensor (AMT), the conservation of EMT and AMT can be proved from the kinetic equations as required by the symmetry. The transport equations of vector and axial-vector components are derived taking the spin decomposition as well as semi-classical expansion. Inhomogeneous mass introduces novel effect at $\mathcal{O}(\hbar)$, for an initially unpolarized system, spin polarization can be generated from the dynamical chiral condensate, even without the collision term. The stable spin distribution function is found to be robust, namely in the case with non-trivial dynamical mass, the spin polarization is still enslaved by the thermal vorticity, while the Killing condition can be loosened.

Local Equilibrium Spin Distribution From Detailed Balance

As the core ingredient for spin polarization, the local equilibrium spin distribution function is derived from the detailed balance principle. The kinetic theory for interacting fermionic systems is applied to the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model at quark level. Under the semi-classical expansion with respect to $\hbar$ and non-perturbative expansion with respect to $N_c$, the kinetic equations for the vector and axial-vector distribution functions are derived with collision terms. It is found that, for an initially unpolarized system, non-zero spin polarization can be generated at the order of $\hbar$ from the coupling between the vector and axial-vector charges. The local equilibrium spin polarization is derived from the requirement of detailed balance. It arises from the thermal vorticity and is orthogonal to the particle momentum.

Chiral Phase Transition in an Expanding Quark System

We investigate the influence of chiral symmetry which varies along the space-time evolution of the system by considering the chiral phase transition in an non-equilibrium expanding quark-antiquark system. The chiral symmetry is described by the mean field order parameter, whose values is the solution of a self-consistent equation, and affects the space-time evolution of the system through the force term in the Vlasov equation. The Vlasov equation and the gap equation are solved concurrently and continuously for a longitudinal boost-invariant and transversely rotation-invariant system. This numerical framework enables us to carefully investigate how the phase transition and collision affect the evolution of the system. It is observed that the chiral phase transition gives rise to a kink in the flow velocity, which is caused by the force term in the Vlasov equation. The kink is enhanced by larger susceptibility and tends to be smoothed out by non-equilibrium effect. The spatial phase boundary appears as a "wall" for the quarks, as the quarks with low momentum are bounced back, while those with high momentum go through the wall but are slowed down.

Mass Correction to Chiral Kinetic Equations

We study fermion mass correction to chiral kinetic equations in electromagnetic fields. Different from the chiral limit where fermion number density is the only independent distribution, the number and spin densities are coupled to each other for massive fermion systems. To the first order in $\hbar$, we derived the quantum correction to the classical on-shell condition and the Boltzmann-type transport equations. To the linear order in the fermion mass, the mass correction does not change the structure of the chiral kinetic equations and behaves like additional collision terms. While the mass correction exists already at classical level in general electromagnetic fields, it is only a first order quantum correction in the study of chiral magnetic effect.

Relativistic Borromean States

In this work the existence of Borromean states has been discussed for bosonic and fermionic cases in both the relativistic and non-relativistic limits from the 3-momentum shell renormalization. With the linear bosonic model we checked the existence of Efimov-like states in the bosonic system. In both limits a geometric series of singularities are found in the 3-boson interaction vertex, while the energy ratio is reduced by around 70\% in the relativistic limit because of the anti-particle contribution. Motivated by the quark-diquark model in heavy baryon studies, we have carefully examined the p-wave quark-diquark interaction and found an isolated Borromean pole at finite energy scale. This may indicate a special baryonic state of light quarks in high energy quark matters. In other cases trivial results are obtained as expected. In relativistic limit, for both bosonic and fermionic cases, potential Borromean states are independent of the mass, which means the results would be valid even in zero-mass limit as well.

Entity Profiling in Knowledge Graphs

Knowledge Graphs (KGs) are graph-structured knowledge bases storing factual information about real-world entities. Understanding the uniqueness of each entity is crucial to the analyzing, sharing, and reusing of KGs. Traditional profiling technologies encompass a vast array of methods to find distinctive features in various applications, which can help to differentiate entities in the process of human understanding of KGs. In this work, we present a novel profiling approach to identify distinctive entity features. The distinctiveness of features is carefully measured by a HAS model, which is a scalable representation learning model to produce a multi-pattern entity embedding. We fully evaluate the quality of entity profiles generated from real KGs. The results show that our approach facilitates human understanding of entities in KGs.

CJRC: A Reliable Human-Annotated Benchmark DataSet for Chinese Judicial Reading Comprehension

We present a Chinese judicial reading comprehension (CJRC) dataset which contains approximately 10K documents and almost 50K questions with answers. The documents come from judgment documents and the questions are annotated by law experts. The CJRC dataset can help researchers extract elements by reading comprehension technology. Element extraction is an important task in the legal field. However, it is difficult to predefine the element types completely due to the diversity of document types and causes of action. By contrast, machine reading comprehension technology can quickly extract elements by answering various questions from the long document. We build two strong baseline models based on BERT and BiDAF. The experimental results show that there is enough space for improvement compared to human annotators.

Response functions of hot and dense matter in the Nambu-Jona-Lasino model

We investigate the current-current correlation functions or the so-called response functions of a two-flavor Nambu-Jona-Lasino model at finite temperature and density. We study the linear response by using the functional path integral approach and introducing the conjugated gauge fields as external sources. The response functions can be obtained by expanding the generational functional in powers of the external sources. We derive the response functions parallel to two well-established approximations for the equilibrium thermodynamics: the mean-field theory and a beyond-mean-field theory taking into account the mesonic contributions. The response functions based on the mean-field theory recover the so-called quasiparticle random phase approximation. We calculate the dynamical structure factors for the density responses in various channels within the random phase approximation. We show that the dynamical structure factors in the baryon axial vector and isospin axial vector channels can be used reveal the quark mass gap and the Mott dissociation of mesons, respectively. Noting that the mesonic contributions are not taken into account in the random phase approximation, we also derive the response functions parallel to the beyond-mean-field theory. We show that the mesonic fluctuations naturally give rise to three kinds of famous diagrammatic contributions: the Aslamazov-Lakin contribution, the Self-Energy or Density-of-State contribution, and the Maki-Thompson contribution. Unlike the equilibrium case, in evaluating the fluctuation contributions, we need to treat carefully the linear terms in the external sources and the induced perturbations. These contributions from the mesonic fluctuations are expected to have significant effects on the transport properties of hot and dense matter around the chiral phase transition or crossover.

Superfluid density reduction and spin-imbalanced pairing in a fermionic superfluid due to dynamical boson exchange

We explore novel features of a nonrelativistic fermionic superfluid in which the pairing interaction includes a contribution from the exchange of a dynamical bosonic mode. We show that the dynamical boson exchange (DBE), which causes a retarded pairing interaction and thus violates the Galilean invariance of the fermion sector, generically leads to a quantum reduction of the superfluid density and hence a nonzero normal fraction even at zero temperature. For spin-singlet pairing, the DBE also leads to a nonvanishing spin susceptibility at zero temperature, providing a mechanism for the coexistence of pairing and magnetization. While these effects are negligible for weak pairing, they become sizable at strong pairing. For the double superfluidity in ultracold Fermi-Bose mixtures, the superfluid density reduction for the fermion sector induced by the DBE just gives rise to the Andreev-Bashkin drag effect, indicating a strong entrainment between the two superfluid components. The DBE may also provide a new source for the superfluid fraction reduction of neutron matter, which is crucial for models of neutron star glitches based on neutron superfluidity.

Fermion spectral function in hot strongly interacting matter from the functional renormalization group

We present the first calculation of fermion spectral function at finite temperature in quark-meson model in the framework of the functional renormalization group (FRG). We compare the results in two truncations, after first evolving flow equation of effective potential, we investigate the spectral function either by taking the IR values as input to calculate one-loop self-energy or by taking the scale-dependent values as input to evolve the flow equation of the fermion two-point function. The latter one is a self-consistent procedure in the framework of FRG. In both truncations, we find a multi-peak structure in the spectral function, indicating quark collective excitations realized in terms of the Landau damping. However, in contrast to fermion zero-mode in the one-loop truncation, we find a fermion soft-mode in the self-consistent truncation, which approaches the zero-mode as temperature increases.

Meson properties in magnetized quark matter

We study neutral and charged meson properties in magnetic field. Taking bosolization method in a two-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model, we derive effective meson Lagrangian density with minimal coupling to the magnetic field, by employing derivative expansion for both the meson fields and Schwinger phases. We extract from the effective Lagrangian density the meson curvature, pole and screening masses. As the only Goldstone mode, the neutral pion controls the thermodynamics of the system and propagates the lang range quark interaction. The magnetic field breaks down the space symmetry, and the quark interaction region changes from a sphere in vacuum to a ellipsoid in magnetic field.

Meson Spectral Functions at Finite Temperature and Isospin Density with Functional Renormalization Group

The pion superfluid and the corresponding Goldstone and soft modes are investigated in two-flavor quark-meson model with functional renormalization group. By solving the flow equations for the effective potential and the meson two-point functions at finite temperature and isospin density, the critical temperature for the superfluid increases sizeably in comparison with solving the flow equation for the potential only. The spectral function for the soft mode shows clearly a transition from meson gas to quark gas with increasing temperature and a crossover from BEC to BCS pairing of quarks with increasing isospin density.

Critical Behavior and Dimension Crossover of Pion Superfluidity

We investigate the critical behavior of pion superfluidity in the frame of functional renormalization group. By solving the flow equation in the SU(2) linear sigma model with pion superfluidity at finite temperature and isospin density, and making comparison with the fixed point analysis of the flow diagram in a general $O(N)$ model at zero temperature and density but with continuous dimension, the pion superfluidity is a second order phase transition subject to a $O(2)$ universality class with a dimension crossover from $d_{\text{eff}}=4$ to $d_{\text{eff}}=3$. The usually used large $N$ expansion gives a temperature independent critical exponent $β$ and agrees with the renormalization group only at zero temperature.
