On existence of a collapsed bubble with surface tension in viscous incompressible fluid

We consider the one-phase free boundary problem for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in $\mathbb{R}^d$ ($d\ge2$). The surface tension is taken into account. The initial domain, which is the outside of a bubble, is an exterior domain. We prove that there exists a bubble evolving by this free boundary problem which collapses in a finite time without blowing up of principal curvatures of its boundary. In other words, what is called a splash singularity is formed in a finite time. This type of result is also valid for a bounded initial domain. To construct such an example, we introduce the notion of a domain with $\delta$-wing which is a flat Riemannian manifold that is not embedded in $\mathbb{R}^d$, but it covers the $\delta$-neighborhood of the original domain whose boundary is self-intersected.

The incompressible Navier-Stokes limit from the lattice BGK Boltzmann equation

In this paper, we prove that a local weak solution to the $d$-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations ($d \geq 2$) can be constructed by taking the hydrodynamic limit of a velocity-discretized Boltzmann equation with a simplified BGK collision operator. Moreover, in the case when the dimension is $d=2,3$, we characterize the combinations of finitely many particle velocities and probabilities that lead to the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in the hydrodynamic limit. Numerical computations conducted in 2D provide information about the rate with which this hydrodynamic limit is achieved when the Knudsen number tends to zero.

On a dryout point for a stationary incompressible thermal fluid with phase transition in a pipe

A dryout point is recognized as the position where the phase transition from liquid to vapor occurs. In the one-dimensional case, by solving the stationary incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier equations with phase transition, we derive a necessary and sufficient condition for a dryout point to exist when the temperature at the liquid-vapor interface is given. In addition, we show by considering thermodynamics that the temperature at the dryout point and the density of the vapor phase can be determined by given density and sufficiently small injected mass flux of the liquid phase.

Extension theorem for $bmo$ in a domain

The $bmo$ space, also known as the local $BMO$ space, is the $BMO$ space which is uniformly locally $L^1$ in addition. In this article, we establish an extension theorem for the $bmo$ space defined in an arbitrary uniformly $C^2$ domain. This extension theorem results in a product estimate for $bmo$ functions defined in an arbitrary uniformly $C^2$ domain.

Anomalous smoothing effect on the incompressible Navier-Stokes-Fourier limit from Boltzmann with periodic velocity

Adding some nontrivial terms composed from a microstructure, we prove the existence of a global-in-time weak solution, whose enstrophy is bounded for all the time, to an incompressible 3D Navier-Stokes-Fourier system for arbitrary initial data. It cannot be expected to directly derive the energy inequality for this new system of equations. The main idea is to employ the hydrodynamic limit from the Boltzmann equation with periodic velocity and a specially designed collision operator.

Normal trace for vector fields of bounded mean oscillation

We introduce various spaces of vector fields of bounded mean oscillation ($BMO$) defined in a domain so that normal trace on the boundary is bounded when its divergence is well controlled. The behavior of "normal" component and "tangential" component may be different for our $BMO$ vector fields. As a result zero extension of the normal component stays in $BMO$ although such property may not hold for tangential components.
