KVMem: Virtualizing Million-Token Agent Workspaces on a Consumer GPU

Modern LLM agents operate in persistent workspaces whose accumulated history can exceed both GPU KV capacity and the model's native context window. Existing systems typically compact older context into summaries or retrieve it later as text, either losing fine-grained execution evidence or repeatedly prefilling content that the model has already processed. We present KVMem, a KV-context virtualization system that preserves overflowed workspace history as paged KV state across GPU memory, host memory, and NVMe. KVMem uses lightweight, model-native attention-space indexes to select relevant historical blocks and materializes a query-dependent execution view bounded by the model's native context window. Extensive evaluations on long-context agent benchmarks spanning histories up to one million tokens, including LongMemEval, MemoryAgentBench, and AgentLongBench, show that KVMem generally achieves higher task utility and greater inference efficiency than compaction-based approaches, the de facto standard for handling context overflow. In the DeepSWE long-context test with Qwen3.8-27B, KVMem improves task success from 43.8% with compaction-only context management to 48.4%. In our local-deployment evaluation, KVMem runs Qwen3.6/3.8-27B NVFP4 with MTP on an off-the-shelf laptop equipped with a 24\,GB RTX 5090 Laptop GPU, virtualizing agent workspaces of up to 1M tokens-four times the model's native 256K-token context window. In a single-session setting, KVMem generates $\sim$50 tokens/s, providing interactive responsiveness for local agent execution. More broadly, by decoupling addressable workspace size from the LLM's native context window, KVMem provides a practical path toward long-running agents whose workspaces can grow beyond that window.

Near-Infrared Light Emitting Metal Halides: Materials, Mechanisms, and Applications

Near-Infrared (NIR) light emitting metal halides are emerging as a new generation of optical materials owing to their appealing features, which include low-cost synthesis, solution processability and adjustable optical properties. NIR emitting perovskite-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have reached an external quantum efficiency (EQE) over 20% and a device stability of over 10,000 h. Such results have sparked an interest in exploring new NIR metal halide emitters. In this review, we summarize several different types of NIR-emitting metal halides, including lead/tin bromide/iodide perovskites, lanthanide ions doped/based metal halides, double perovskites, low dimensional hybrid and Bi3+/Sb3+/Cr3+ doped metal halides, and assess their recent advancements. The characteristics and mechanisms of narrow-band or broadband NIR luminescence in all these materials are discussed in detail. We also highlight the various applications of NIR-emitting metal halides and provide an outlook for the field.

Ferri-chiral compounds with potentially switchable Dresselhaus spin split-ting

Spin splitting of energy bands can be induced by relativistic spin-orbit interactions in materials without inversion symmetry. Whereas polar space group symmetries permit Rashba (R-1) spin splitting with helical spin textures in momentum space, which could be reversed upon switching a ferroelectric polarization via applied electric fields, the ordinary Dresselhaus effect (D-1A) is ac-tive only in materials exhibiting nonpolar noncentrosymmetric crystal classes with atoms occupy-ing exclusively non-polar lattice sites. Consequently, the spin-momentum locking induced by D-1A is not electric field-switchable. An alternative type of Dresselhaus symmetry, referred to as D-1B, exhibits crystal class constraints similar to D-1A (all dipoles add up to zero), but unlike D-1A, at least one polar site is occupied. We find that this behavior exists in a class of ferri-chiral crys-tals, which in principle could be reversed upon a change in chirality. Focusing on alkali metal chalcogenides, we identify NaCu5S3 in the nonentiamorphic ferri-chiral structure, which exhibits CuS3 chiral units differing in the magnitude of their Cu displacements. We then synthesize NaCu5S3 (space group P6322) and confirm its ferri-chiral structure with power x-ray diffraction. Our electronic structure calculations demonstrate it exhibits D-1B spin splitting as well as a ferri-chiral phase transition, revealing spin splitting interdependent on chirality. Our electronic struc-ture calculations show that a few percent biaxial tensile strain can reduce (or nearly quench) the switching barrier separating the monodomain ferri-chiral P6322 states. We discuss what type of external stimuli might switch the chirality so as to reverse the (non-helical) Dresselhaus D-1B spin texture, offering an alternative to the traditional reversal of the (helical) Rashba spin texture.
