Enriching Source Style Transfer in Recognition-Synthesis based Non-Parallel Voice Conversion

Current voice conversion (VC) methods can successfully convert timbre of the audio. As modeling source audio's prosody effectively is a challenging task, there are still limitations of transferring source style to the converted speech. This study proposes a source style transfer method based on recognition-synthesis framework. Previously in speech generation task, prosody can be modeled explicitly with prosodic features or implicitly with a latent prosody extractor. In this paper, taking advantages of both, we model the prosody in a hybrid manner, which effectively combines explicit and implicit methods in a proposed prosody module. Specifically, prosodic features are used to explicit model prosody, while VAE and reference encoder are used to implicitly model prosody, which take Mel spectrum and bottleneck feature as input respectively. Furthermore, adversarial training is introduced to remove speaker-related information from the VAE outputs, avoiding leaking source speaker information while transferring style. Finally, we use a modified self-attention based encoder to extract sentential context from bottleneck features, which also implicitly aggregates the prosodic aspects of source speech from the layered representations. Experiments show that our approach is superior to the baseline and a competitive system in terms of style transfer; meanwhile, the speech quality and speaker similarity are well maintained.

WNARS: WFST based Non-autoregressive Streaming End-to-End Speech Recognition

Recently, attention-based encoder-decoder (AED) end-to-end (E2E) models have drawn more and more attention in the field of automatic speech recognition (ASR). AED models, however, still have drawbacks when deploying in commercial applications. Autoregressive beam search decoding makes it inefficient for high-concurrency applications. It is also inconvenient to integrate external word-level language models. The most important thing is that AED models are difficult for streaming recognition due to global attention mechanism. In this paper, we propose a novel framework, namely WNARS, using hybrid CTC-attention AED models and weighted finite-state transducers (WFST) to solve these problems together. We switch from autoregressive beam search to CTC branch decoding, which performs first-pass decoding with WFST in chunk-wise streaming way. The decoder branch then performs second-pass rescoring on the generated hypotheses non-autoregressively. On the AISHELL-1 task, our WNARS achieves a character error rate of 5.22% with 640ms latency, to the best of our knowledge, which is the state-of-the-art performance for online ASR. Further experiments on our 10,000-hour Mandarin task show the proposed method achieves more than 20% improvements with 50% latency compared to a strong TDNN-BLSTM lattice-free MMI baseline.

Tree convolution for probability distributions with unbounded support

We develop the complex-analytic viewpoint on the tree convolutions studied by the second author and Weihua Liu in "An operad of non-commutative independences defined by trees" (Dissertationes Mathematicae, 2020, doi:10.4064/dm797-6-2020), which generalize the free, boolean, monotone, and orthogonal convolutions. In particular, for each rooted subtree $\mathcal{T}$ of the $N$-regular tree (with vertices labeled by alternating strings), we define the convolution $\boxplus_{\mathcal{T}}(μ_1,\dots,μ_N)$ for arbitrary probability measures $μ_1$, ..., $μ_N$ on $\mathbb{R}$ using a certain fixed-point equation for the Cauchy transforms. The convolution operations respect the operad structure of the tree operad from doi:10.4064/dm797-6-2020. We prove a general limit theorem for iterated $\mathcal{T}$-free convolution similar to Bercovici and Pata's results in the free case in "Stable laws and domains of attraction in free probability" (Annals of Mathematics, 1999, doi:10.2307/121080), and we deduce limit theorems for measures in the domain of attraction of each of the classical stable laws.

Accent and Speaker Disentanglement in Many-to-many Voice Conversion

This paper proposes an interesting voice and accent joint conversion approach, which can convert an arbitrary source speaker's voice to a target speaker with non-native accent. This problem is challenging as each target speaker only has training data in native accent and we need to disentangle accent and speaker information in the conversion model training and re-combine them in the conversion stage. In our recognition-synthesis conversion framework, we manage to solve this problem by two proposed tricks. First, we use accent-dependent speech recognizers to obtain bottleneck features for different accented speakers. This aims to wipe out other factors beyond the linguistic information in the BN features for conversion model training. Second, we propose to use adversarial training to better disentangle the speaker and accent information in our encoder-decoder based conversion model. Specifically, we plug an auxiliary speaker classifier to the encoder, trained with an adversarial loss to wipe out speaker information from the encoder output. Experiments show that our approach is superior to the baseline. The proposed tricks are quite effective in improving accentedness and audio quality and speaker similarity are well maintained.

Multiplicity one for min-max theory in compact manifolds with boundary and its applications

We prove the multiplicity one theorem for min-max free boundary minimal hypersurfaces in compact manifolds with boundary of dimension between 3 and 7 for generic metrics. To approach this, we develop existence and regularity theory for free boundary hypersurface with prescribed mean curvature, which includes the regularity theory for minimizers, compactness theory, and a generic min-max theory with Morse index bounds. As applications, we construct new free boundary minimal hypersurfaces in the unit balls in Euclidean spaces and self-shrinkers of the mean curvature flows with arbitrarily large entropy.

Spectra of the Conjugate Kernel and Neural Tangent Kernel for linear-width neural networks

We study the eigenvalue distributions of the Conjugate Kernel and Neural Tangent Kernel associated to multi-layer feedforward neural networks. In an asymptotic regime where network width is increasing linearly in sample size, under random initialization of the weights, and for input samples satisfying a notion of approximate pairwise orthogonality, we show that the eigenvalue distributions of the CK and NTK converge to deterministic limits. The limit for the CK is described by iterating the Marcenko-Pastur map across the hidden layers. The limit for the NTK is equivalent to that of a linear combination of the CK matrices across layers, and may be described by recursive fixed-point equations that extend this Marcenko-Pastur map. We demonstrate the agreement of these asymptotic predictions with the observed spectra for both synthetic and CIFAR-10 training data, and we perform a small simulation to investigate the evolutions of these spectra over training.

Principal components in linear mixed models with general bulk

We study the principal components of covariance estimators in multivariate mixed-effects linear models. We show that, in high dimensions, the principal eigenvalues and eigenvectors may exhibit bias and aliasing effects that are not present in low-dimensional settings. We derive the first-order limits of the principal eigenvalue locations and eigenvector projections in a high-dimensional asymptotic framework, allowing for general population spectral distributions for the random effects and extending previous results from a more restrictive spiked model. Our analysis uses free probability techniques, and we develop two general tools of independent interest-- strong asymptotic freeness of GOE and deterministic matrices and a free deterministic equivalent approximation for bilinear forms of resolvents.

Research on Control Method and Evaluation System of Ground Unmanned Vehicle Formation Transform

In this paper,we design a formation control systrm for multi-unmanned ground vehicles(UGV) from the prospective of path planning and path tracking. The master-slave control is adopted by electing out a main vehicle to address the problem of possible accumulation, tranmission and amplification of errors. In the process of formation transformation,we first generate an expected path by combing the methods of dynamic window and potential energy field. Then a path tracking algorithm based on Hermite curve is adopted to make the formation transformation process more stable and accurate. Finally, the evaluation system of the formation control system is constructed, which combines the expected position, the actual position, the expected speed, the actual speed and the actual acceleration, giving an evalutaion on the performance of the formation transformation, response of the formation driving process and the performance of the formation stability.

Min-max theory for free boundary minimal hypersurfaces II -- General Morse index bounds and applications

For any smooth Riemannian metric on an $(n+1)$-dimensional compact manifold with boundary $(M,\partial M)$ where $3\leq (n+1)\leq 7$, we establish general upper bounds for the Morse index of free boundary minimal hypersurfaces produced by min-max theory in the Almgren-Pitts setting. We apply our Morse index estimates to prove that for almost every (in the $C^\infty$ Baire sense) Riemannan metric, the union of all compact, properly embedded free boundary minimal hypersurfaces is dense in $M$. If $\partial M$ is further assumed to have a strictly mean convex point, we show the existence of infinitely many compact, properly embedded free boundary minimal hypersurfaces whose boundaries are non-empty. Our results prove a conjecture of Yau for generic metrics in the free boundary setting.

Compactness and generic finiteness for free boundary minimal hypersurfaces (II)

Given a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary, we prove that the limit of a sequence of embedded, almost properly embedded free boundary minimal hypersurfaces, with uniform area and Morse index upper bound, always inherits a non-trivial Jacobi field. To approach this, we prove a one-sided Harnack inequality for minimal graphs on balls with many holes.

Compactness and generic finiteness for free boundary minimal hypersurfaces (I)

Given a compact Riemannian manifold with boundary, we prove that the space of embedded, which may be improper, free boundary minimal hypersurfaces with uniform area and Morse index upper bound is compact in the sense of smoothly graphical convergence away from finitely many points. We show that the limit of a sequence of such hypersurfaces always inherits a non-trivial Jacobi field when it has multiplicity one. In a forthcoming paper, we will construct Jacobi fields when the convergence has higher multiplicity.

Free boundary minimal hypersurfaces with least area

In this paper, we prove the existence of the free boundary minimal hypersurface of least area in compact manifolds with boundary. Such hypersurface can be viewed as the ground state of the volume spectrum introduced by Gromov. Moreover, we characterize the orientation and Morse index of them.

Central Limit Theorems for a Stationary Semicircular Sequence in Free Probability

In this paper, we focus on studying central limit theorems for functionals of some specific stationary random processes. In classical probability theory, it is well-known that for non-linear functionals of stationary Gaussian sequences, we can get a central-limit result via Hermite polynomials and the diagram formula for cumulants. In this paper, the main result is an analogous central limit theorem, in a free probability setting, for real-valued functionals of a stationary semicircular sequence with long-range dependence, namely the correlation function of the underlying time series tends to zero as the lag goes to infinity.
