The mutual pulling force of human muscle fibers can treat mild cancer and rhinitis

Muscles can store a large amount of genetic information, and in order to transform humans into computers, we need to start by increasing muscle tension. When people with cancer go on happy trips, some cancers often heal without treatment; Rhinitis can cause blockage of the nostrils, but after running, the nostrils naturally ventilate. Both are related to exercise, and the mystery behind them can treat both conditions. Cancer belongs to systemic diseases, and the eradication method for systemic diseases should start from the entire body system, treat the symptoms and prevent recurrence. This article uses special exercise methods and detailed methods to treat diseases, and finds that treating diseases from the perspective of the human system is indeed effective. This article adopts a comparative experimental method to compare the changes in the body before and after. Through this article, it is concluded that exercise and certain methods can cure mild rhinitis and promote rapid ventilation; Explaining from the perspective of muscle pulling force that older individuals are more prone to developing cellular variant cancer; Enhancing muscle tension in the human body can promote the cure of some cancers

The Philosopher's Stone: Trojaning Plugins of Large Language Models

Open-source Large Language Models (LLMs) have recently gained popularity because of their comparable performance to proprietary LLMs. To efficiently fulfill domain-specialized tasks, open-source LLMs can be refined, without expensive accelerators, using low-rank adapters. However, it is still unknown whether low-rank adapters can be exploited to control LLMs. To address this gap, we demonstrate that an infected adapter can induce, on specific triggers,an LLM to output content defined by an adversary and to even maliciously use tools. To train a Trojan adapter, we propose two novel attacks, POLISHED and FUSION, that improve over prior approaches. POLISHED uses a superior LLM to align naïvely poisoned data based on our insight that it can better inject poisoning knowledge during training. In contrast, FUSION leverages a novel over-poisoning procedure to transform a benign adapter into a malicious one by magnifying the attention between trigger and target in model weights. In our experiments, we first conduct two case studies to demonstrate that a compromised LLM agent can use malware to control the system (e.g., a LLM-driven robot) or to launch a spear-phishing attack. Then, in terms of targeted misinformation, we show that our attacks provide higher attack effectiveness than the existing baseline and, for the purpose of attracting downloads, preserve or improve the adapter's utility. Finally, we designed and evaluated three potential defenses. However, none proved entirely effective in safeguarding against our attacks, highlighting the need for more robust defenses supporting a secure LLM supply chain.

Large Language Models Synergize with Automated Machine Learning

Recently, program synthesis driven by large language models (LLMs) has become increasingly popular. However, program synthesis for machine learning (ML) tasks still poses significant challenges. This paper explores a novel form of program synthesis, targeting ML programs, by combining LLMs and automated machine learning (autoML). Specifically, our goal is to fully automate the generation and optimization of the code of the entire ML workflow, from data preparation to modeling and post-processing, utilizing only textual descriptions of the ML tasks. To manage the length and diversity of ML programs, we propose to break each ML program into smaller, manageable parts. Each part is generated separately by the LLM, with careful consideration of their compatibilities. To ensure compatibilities, we design a testing technique for ML programs. Unlike traditional program synthesis, which typically relies on binary evaluations (i.e., correct or incorrect), evaluating ML programs necessitates more than just binary judgments. Our approach automates the numerical evaluation and optimization of these programs, selecting the best candidates through autoML techniques. In experiments across various ML tasks, our method outperforms existing methods in 10 out of 12 tasks for generating ML programs. In addition, autoML significantly improves the performance of the generated ML programs. In experiments, given the textual task description, our method, Text-to-ML, generates the complete and optimized ML program in a fully autonomous process. The implementation of our method is available at https://github.com/JLX0/llm-automl.

Searching for axions with kaon decay at rest

We describe a novel search strategy for axions (or hadronically coupled axion-like particles) in the mass range of $m_a \lesssim 350\,{\rm MeV}$. The search relies on kaon decay at rest, which produces a mono-energetic signal in a large volume detector (e.g.\ a tank of liquid scintillator) from axion decays $a\rightarrow γγ$ or $a\rightarrow e^+e^-$. The decay modes $K^+\to π^+ a$ and $a \to γγ$ are induced by the axion's coupling to gluons, which is generic to any model which addresses the strong CP problem. We recast a recent search from MicroBooNE for $e^+e^-$ pairs, and study prospects at JSNS$^2$ and other near-term facilities. We find that JSNS$^2$ will have world-leading sensitivity to hadronically coupled axions in the mass range of $40\,\mathrm{MeV} \lesssim m_a \lesssim 350\,\mathrm{MeV}$.

The fusion of phonography and ideographic characters into virtual Chinese characters -- Based on Chinese and English

The characters used in modern countries are mainly divided into ideographic characters and phonetic characters, both of which have their advantages and disadvantages. Chinese is difficult to learn and easy to master, while English is easy to learn but has a large vocabulary. There is still no language that combines the advantages of both languages and has less memory capacity, can form words, and is easy to learn. Therefore, inventing new characters that can be combined and the popularization of deep knowledge, and reduce disputes through communication. Firstly, observe the advantages and disadvantages of Chinese and English, such as their vocabulary, information content, and ease of learning in deep scientific knowledge, and create a new writing system. Then, use comparative analysis to observe the total score of the new language. Through this article, it can be concluded that the new text combines the advantages of both pictographic and alphabetical writing: new characters that can be combined into words reduces the vocabulary that needs to be learned; Special prefixes allow beginners to quickly guess the approximate category and meaning of unseen words; New characters can enable humans to quickly learn more advanced knowledge.

Accidental Suppression of Wilson Coefficients in Higgs Coupling

Higgs couplings are essential probes for physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM) since they can be modified by new physics, such as through the Higgs portal interaction $|H|^2\mathcal{O}$. These modifications influence Higgs interactions via dimension-6 operators of the form $ \left(\partial |H|^2\right)^2$ and $|H|^6$, which are generally expected to be of comparable size. This paper discusses a phenomenon of accidental suppression, where the $|H|^6$ coupling is significantly smaller than $\left(\partial |H|^2\right)^2$. This suppression, arising from the truncation of the tree-level effective potential, lacks a clear symmetry explanation but persists in portal models. This paper aims to inspire further studies on additional instances of accidental suppression without symmetry explanations or a general framework to characterize such suppression. We also discuss constraints, at the HL-LHC and future colliders, on the Wilson coefficients of the two dimension-6 operators for various benchmark scenarios of the concrete model.

Learning Over Molecular Conformer Ensembles: Datasets and Benchmarks

Molecular Representation Learning (MRL) has proven impactful in numerous biochemical applications such as drug discovery and enzyme design. While Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) are effective at learning molecular representations from a 2D molecular graph or a single 3D structure, existing works often overlook the flexible nature of molecules, which continuously interconvert across conformations via chemical bond rotations and minor vibrational perturbations. To better account for molecular flexibility, some recent works formulate MRL as an ensemble learning problem, focusing on explicitly learning from a set of conformer structures. However, most of these studies have limited datasets, tasks, and models. In this work, we introduce the first MoleculAR Conformer Ensemble Learning (MARCEL) benchmark to thoroughly evaluate the potential of learning on conformer ensembles and suggest promising research directions. MARCEL includes four datasets covering diverse molecule- and reaction-level properties of chemically diverse molecules including organocatalysts and transition-metal catalysts, extending beyond the scope of common GNN benchmarks that are confined to drug-like molecules. In addition, we conduct a comprehensive empirical study, which benchmarks representative 1D, 2D, and 3D molecular representation learning models, along with two strategies that explicitly incorporate conformer ensembles into 3D MRL models. Our findings reveal that direct learning from an accessible conformer space can improve performance on a variety of tasks and models.

FINER++: Building a Family of Variable-periodic Functions for Activating Implicit Neural Representation

Implicit Neural Representation (INR), which utilizes a neural network to map coordinate inputs to corresponding attributes, is causing a revolution in the field of signal processing. However, current INR techniques suffer from the "frequency"-specified spectral bias and capacity-convergence gap, resulting in imperfect performance when representing complex signals with multiple "frequencies". We have identified that both of these two characteristics could be handled by increasing the utilization of definition domain in current activation functions, for which we propose the FINER++ framework by extending existing periodic/non-periodic activation functions to variable-periodic ones. By initializing the bias of the neural network with different ranges, sub-functions with various frequencies in the variable-periodic function are selected for activation. Consequently, the supported frequency set can be flexibly tuned, leading to improved performance in signal representation. We demonstrate the generalization and capabilities of FINER++ with different activation function backbones (Sine, Gauss. and Wavelet) and various tasks (2D image fitting, 3D signed distance field representation, 5D neural radiance fields optimization and streamable INR transmission), and we show that it improves existing INRs. Enhancing Transferability of Targeted Adversarial Examples: A Self-Universal Perspective

Transfer-based targeted adversarial attacks against black-box deep neural networks (DNNs) have been proven to be significantly more challenging than untargeted ones. The impressive transferability of current SOTA, the generative methods, comes at the cost of requiring massive amounts of additional data and time-consuming training for each targeted label. This results in limited efficiency and flexibility, significantly hindering their deployment in practical applications. In this paper, we offer a self-universal perspective that unveils the great yet underexplored potential of input transformations in pursuing this goal. Specifically, transformations universalize gradient-based attacks with intrinsic but overlooked semantics inherent within individual images, exhibiting similar scalability and comparable results to time-consuming learning over massive additional data from diverse classes. We also contribute a surprising empirical insight that one of the most fundamental transformations, simple image scaling, is highly effective, scalable, sufficient, and necessary in enhancing targeted transferability. We further augment simple scaling with orthogonal transformations and block-wise applicability, resulting in the Simple, faSt, Self-universal yet Strong Scale Transformation (S$^4$ST) for self-universal TTA. On the ImageNet-Compatible benchmark dataset, our method achieves a 19.8% improvement in the average targeted transfer success rate against various challenging victim models over existing SOTA transformation methods while only consuming 36% time for attacking. It also outperforms resource-intensive attacks by a large margin in various challenging settings.

$W$-Boson Exotic Decay into Three Charged Leptons at the LHC

We investigate the $W$ boson's exotic decay channel, $W \rightarrow \ell\ell\ell ν$, at the LHC. Although the four-body final states suppress the decay branching ratio, the large production of $W$ bosons makes detecting and precisely measuring this decay probability entirely feasible. Our simulation study indicates that this tiny branching ratio can be measured with sub-percent precision at the HL-LHC. This decay channel can also constrain Standard Model extensions. Using the $ L_μ-L_τ$ model as a benchmark, we find that the current bound on the gauge coupling for $Z'$ mass in the range of $[4,75]$ GeV can significantly improve.

Cross Domain Object Detection via Multi-Granularity Confidence Alignment based Mean Teacher

Cross domain object detection learns an object detector for an unlabeled target domain by transferring knowledge from an annotated source domain. Promising results have been achieved via Mean Teacher, however, pseudo labeling which is the bottleneck of mutual learning remains to be further explored. In this study, we find that confidence misalignment of the predictions, including category-level overconfidence, instance-level task confidence inconsistency, and image-level confidence misfocusing, leading to the injection of noisy pseudo label in the training process, will bring suboptimal performance on the target domain. To tackle this issue, we present a novel general framework termed Multi-Granularity Confidence Alignment Mean Teacher (MGCAMT) for cross domain object detection, which alleviates confidence misalignment across category-, instance-, and image-levels simultaneously to obtain high quality pseudo supervision for better teacher-student learning. Specifically, to align confidence with accuracy at category level, we propose Classification Confidence Alignment (CCA) to model category uncertainty based on Evidential Deep Learning (EDL) and filter out the category incorrect labels via an uncertainty-aware selection strategy. Furthermore, to mitigate the instance-level misalignment between classification and localization, we design Task Confidence Alignment (TCA) to enhance the interaction between the two task branches and allow each classification feature to adaptively locate the optimal feature for the regression. Finally, we develop imagery Focusing Confidence Alignment (FCA) adopting another way of pseudo label learning, i.e., we use the original outputs from the Mean Teacher network for supervised learning without label assignment to concentrate on holistic information in the target image. These three procedures benefit from each other from a cooperative learning perspective.

Beyond Anti-Forgetting: Multimodal Continual Instruction Tuning with Positive Forward Transfer

Multimodal Continual Instruction Tuning (MCIT) enables Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) to meet continuously emerging requirements without expensive retraining. MCIT faces two major obstacles: catastrophic forgetting (where old knowledge is forgotten) and negative forward transfer (where the performance of future tasks is degraded). Although existing methods have greatly alleviated catastrophic forgetting, they still suffer from negative forward transfer. We discover a large discrepancy in different input embeddings by performing singular value decomposition (SVD) on input embeddings. This discrepancy results in the model learning irrelevant information for old and pre-trained tasks, leading to catastrophic forgetting and negative forward transfer. To address these issues, we propose Prompt Tuning with Positive Forward Transfer (Fwd-Prompt), a prompt-based method that projects the prompt gradient to the residual space to minimize interference between tasks and to the pre-trained subspace for reusing pre-trained knowledge. Our experiments demonstrate that Fwd-Prompt achieves state-of-the-art performance while updating fewer parameters and requiring no old samples. Our research illuminates the potential of continuously adapting MLLMs to new tasks under the instruction tuning paradigm and encourages future studies to explore MCIT.

Incremental Sequence Labeling: A Tale of Two Shifts

The incremental sequence labeling task involves continuously learning new classes over time while retaining knowledge of the previous ones. Our investigation identifies two significant semantic shifts: E2O (where the model mislabels an old entity as a non-entity) and O2E (where the model labels a non-entity or old entity as a new entity). Previous research has predominantly focused on addressing the E2O problem, neglecting the O2E issue. This negligence results in a model bias towards classifying new data samples as belonging to the new class during the learning process. To address these challenges, we propose a novel framework, Incremental Sequential Labeling without Semantic Shifts (IS3). Motivated by the identified semantic shifts (E2O and O2E), IS3 aims to mitigate catastrophic forgetting in models. As for the E2O problem, we use knowledge distillation to maintain the model's discriminative ability for old entities. Simultaneously, to tackle the O2E problem, we alleviate the model's bias towards new entities through debiased loss and optimization levels. Our experimental evaluation, conducted on three datasets with various incremental settings, demonstrates the superior performance of IS3 compared to the previous state-of-the-art method by a significant margin. The data, code, and scripts are publicly available at https://github.com/zzz47zzz/codebase-for-incremental-learning-with-llm.

Generalized vector potential and Trace Theorem for Lipschitz domains

The vector potential is a fundamental concept widely applied across various fields. This paper presents an existence theorem of a vector potential for divergence-free functions in $W^{m,p}(\mathbb{R}^N,\mathbb{T})$ with general $m,p,N$. Based on this theorem, one can establish the space decomposition theorem for functions in $W^{m,p}_0(\operatorname{curl};Ω,\mathbb{R}^N)$ and the trace theorem for functions in $W^{m,p}(Ω)$ within the Lipschitz domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^N$. The methods of proof employed in this paper are straightforward, natural, and consistent.

Parameter-Efficient Orthogonal Finetuning via Butterfly Factorization

Large foundation models are becoming ubiquitous, but training them from scratch is prohibitively expensive. Thus, efficiently adapting these powerful models to downstream tasks is increasingly important. In this paper, we study a principled finetuning paradigm -- Orthogonal Finetuning (OFT) -- for downstream task adaptation. Despite demonstrating good generalizability, OFT still uses a fairly large number of trainable parameters due to the high dimensionality of orthogonal matrices. To address this, we start by examining OFT from an information transmission perspective, and then identify a few key desiderata that enable better parameter-efficiency. Inspired by how the Cooley-Tukey fast Fourier transform algorithm enables efficient information transmission, we propose an efficient orthogonal parameterization using butterfly structures. We apply this parameterization to OFT, creating a novel parameter-efficient finetuning method, called Orthogonal Butterfly (BOFT). By subsuming OFT as a special case, BOFT introduces a generalized orthogonal finetuning framework. Finally, we conduct an extensive empirical study of adapting large vision transformers, large language models, and text-to-image diffusion models to various downstream tasks in vision and language.

A Dynamic Kernel Prior Model for Unsupervised Blind Image Super-Resolution

Deep learning-based methods have achieved significant successes on solving the blind super-resolution (BSR) problem. However, most of them request supervised pre-training on labelled datasets. This paper proposes an unsupervised kernel estimation model, named dynamic kernel prior (DKP), to realize an unsupervised and pre-training-free learning-based algorithm for solving the BSR problem. DKP can adaptively learn dynamic kernel priors to realize real-time kernel estimation, and thereby enables superior HR image restoration performances. This is achieved by a Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling process on random kernel distributions. The learned kernel prior is then assigned to optimize a blur kernel estimation network, which entails a network-based Langevin dynamic optimization strategy. These two techniques ensure the accuracy of the kernel estimation. DKP can be easily used to replace the kernel estimation models in the existing methods, such as Double-DIP and FKP-DIP, or be added to the off-the-shelf image restoration model, such as diffusion model. In this paper, we incorporate our DKP model with DIP and diffusion model, referring to DIP-DKP and Diff-DKP, for validations. Extensive simulations on Gaussian and motion kernel scenarios demonstrate that the proposed DKP model can significantly improve the kernel estimation with comparable runtime and memory usage, leading to state-of-the-art BSR results. The code is available at https://github.com/XYLGroup/DKP.

The Explicit values of the UBCT, the LBCT and the DBCT of the inverse function

Substitution boxes (S-boxes) play a significant role in ensuring the resistance of block ciphers against various attacks. The Upper Boomerang Connectivity Table (UBCT), the Lower Boomerang Connectivity Table (LBCT) and the Double Boomerang Connectivity Table (DBCT) of a given S-box are crucial tools to analyze its security concerning specific attacks. However, there are currently no related results for this research. The inverse function is crucial for constructing S-boxes of block ciphers with good cryptographic properties in symmetric cryptography. Therefore, extensive research has been conducted on the inverse function, exploring various properties related to standard attacks. Thanks to the recent advancements in boomerang cryptanalysis, particularly the introduction of concepts such as UBCT, LBCT, and DBCT, this paper aims to further investigate the properties of the inverse function $F(x)=x^{2^n-2}$ over $\gf_{2^n}$ for arbitrary $n$. As a consequence, by carrying out certain finer manipulations of solving specific equations over $\gf_{2^n}$, we give all entries of the UBCT, LBCT of $F(x)$ over $\gf_{2^n}$ for arbitrary $n$. Besides, based on the results of the UBCT and LBCT for the inverse function, we determine that $F(x)$ is hard when $n$ is odd. Furthermore, we completely compute all entries of the DBCT of $F(x)$ over $\gf_{2^n}$ for arbitrary $n$. Additionally, we provide the precise number of elements with a given entry by means of the values of some Kloosterman sums. Further, we determine the double boomerang uniformity of $F(x)$ over $\gf_{2^n}$ for arbitrary $n$. Our in-depth analysis of the DBCT of $F(x)$ contributes to a better evaluation of the S-box's resistance against boomerang attacks.

Improving Bracket Image Restoration and Enhancement with Flow-guided Alignment and Enhanced Feature Aggregation

In this paper, we address the Bracket Image Restoration and Enhancement (BracketIRE) task using a novel framework, which requires restoring a high-quality high dynamic range (HDR) image from a sequence of noisy, blurred, and low dynamic range (LDR) multi-exposure RAW inputs. To overcome this challenge, we present the IREANet, which improves the multiple exposure alignment and aggregation with a Flow-guide Feature Alignment Module (FFAM) and an Enhanced Feature Aggregation Module (EFAM). Specifically, the proposed FFAM incorporates the inter-frame optical flow as guidance to facilitate the deformable alignment and spatial attention modules for better feature alignment. The EFAM further employs the proposed Enhanced Residual Block (ERB) as a foundational component, wherein a unidirectional recurrent network aggregates the aligned temporal features to better reconstruct the results. To improve model generalization and performance, we additionally employ the Bayer preserving augmentation (BayerAug) strategy to augment the multi-exposure RAW inputs. Our experimental evaluations demonstrate that the proposed IREANet shows state-of-the-art performance compared with previous methods.
