Dressing the Orbital Feshbach Resonance using single-manifold Raman scheme

The recently discovered Orbital Feshbach Resonance (OFR) offers the possibility of tuning the interaction between alkaline earth(-like) metal atoms with magnetic field. Here, we introduce a single-manifold Raman scheme to dress the OFR, which allows us to tune the interaction with the optical field and it is readily realizable in experiment. We demonstrate the scattering resonance could be shifted by the dressing Raman laser using few-body and many-body mean-field calculation, which give rise to an optical dependent two-body bound state and Raman coupling induced BCS-BEC crossover in the BCS-type mean field theory. Besides, we also discuss the application of single-manifold Raman scheme in Kondo research by writing down a Kondo lattice model.

Global Norm-Aware Pooling for Pose-Robust Face Recognition at Low False Positive Rate

In this paper, we propose a novel Global Norm-Aware Pooling (GNAP) block, which reweights local features in a convolutional neural network (CNN) adaptively according to their L2 norms and outputs a global feature vector with a global average pooling layer. Our GNAP block is designed to give dynamic weights to local features in different spatial positions without losing spatial symmetry. We use a GNAP block in a face feature embedding CNN to produce discriminative face feature vectors for pose-robust face recognition. The GNAP block is of very cheap computational cost, but it is very powerful for frontal-profile face recognition. Under the CFP frontal-profile protocol, the GNAP block can not only reduce EER dramatically but also boost TPR@FPR=0.1% (TPR i.e. True Positive Rate, FPR i.e. False Positive Rate) substantially. Our experiments show that the GNAP block greatly promotes pose-robust face recognition over the base model especially at low false positive rate.

Gradient Band-based Adversarial Training for Generalized Attack Immunity of A3C Path Finding

As adversarial attacks pose a serious threat to the security of AI system in practice, such attacks have been extensively studied in the context of computer vision applications. However, few attentions have been paid to the adversarial research on automatic path finding. In this paper, we show dominant adversarial examples are effective when targeting A3C path finding, and design a Common Dominant Adversarial Examples Generation Method (CDG) to generate dominant adversarial examples against any given map. In addition, we propose Gradient Band-based Adversarial Training, which trained with a single randomly choose dominant adversarial example without taking any modification, to realize the "1:N" attack immunity for generalized dominant adversarial examples. Extensive experimental results show that, the lowest generation precision for CDG algorithm is 91.91%, and the lowest immune precision for Gradient Band-based Adversarial Training is 93.89%, which can prove that our method can realize the generalized attack immunity of A3C path finding with a high confidence.

MobileFaceNets: Efficient CNNs for Accurate Real-Time Face Verification on Mobile Devices

We present a class of extremely efficient CNN models, MobileFaceNets, which use less than 1 million parameters and are specifically tailored for high-accuracy real-time face verification on mobile and embedded devices. We first make a simple analysis on the weakness of common mobile networks for face verification. The weakness has been well overcome by our specifically designed MobileFaceNets. Under the same experimental conditions, our MobileFaceNets achieve significantly superior accuracy as well as more than 2 times actual speedup over MobileNetV2. After trained by ArcFace loss on the refined MS-Celeb-1M, our single MobileFaceNet of 4.0MB size achieves 99.55% accuracy on LFW and 92.59% TAR@FAR1e-6 on MegaFace, which is even comparable to state-of-the-art big CNN models of hundreds MB size. The fastest one of MobileFaceNets has an actual inference time of 18 milliseconds on a mobile phone. For face verification, MobileFaceNets achieve significantly improved efficiency over previous state-of-the-art mobile CNNs.

PrivMin: Differentially Private MinHash for Jaccard Similarity Computation

In many industrial applications of big data, the Jaccard Similarity Computation has been widely used to measure the distance between two profiles or sets respectively owned by two users. Yet, one semi-honest user with unpredictable knowledge may also deduce the private or sensitive information (e.g., the existence of a single element in the original sets) of the other user via the shared similarity. In this paper, we aim at solving the privacy issues in Jaccard similarity computation with strict differential privacy guarantees. To achieve this, we first define the Conditional $ε$-DPSO, a relaxed differential privacy definition regarding set operations, and prove that the MinHash-based Jaccard Similarity Computation (MH-JSC) satisfies this definition. Then for achieving strict differential privacy in MH-JSC, we propose the PrivMin algorithm, which consists of two private operations: 1) the Private MinHash Value Generation that works by introducing the Exponential noise to the generation of MinHash signature. 2) the Randomized MinHashing Steps Selection that works by adopting Randomized Response technique to privately select several steps within the MinHashing phase that are deployed with the Exponential mechanism. Experiments on real datasets demonstrate that the proposed PrivMin algorithm can successfully retain the utility of the computed similarity while preserving privacy.

Dynamic Stacked Generalization for Node Classification on Networks

We propose a novel stacked generalization (stacking) method as a dynamic ensemble technique using a pool of heterogeneous classifiers for node label classification on networks. The proposed method assigns component models a set of functional coefficients, which can vary smoothly with certain topological features of a node. Compared to the traditional stacking model, the proposed method can dynamically adjust the weights of individual models as we move across the graph and provide a more versatile and significantly more accurate stacking model for label prediction on a network. We demonstrate the benefits of the proposed model using both a simulation study and real data analysis.

A semiparametric scale-mixture regression model and predictive recursion maximum likelihood

To avoid specification of the error distribution in a regression model, we propose a general nonparametric scale mixture model for the error distribution. For fitting such mixtures, the predictive recursion method is a simple and computationally efficient alternative to existing methods. We define a predictive recursion-based marginal likelihood function, and estimation of the regression parameters proceeds by maximizing this function. A hybrid predictive recursion--EM algorithm is proposed for this purpose. The method's performance is compared with that of existing methods in simulations and real data analyses.
