Neural Dubber: Dubbing for Videos According to Scripts

Dubbing is a post-production process of re-recording actors' dialogues, which is extensively used in filmmaking and video production. It is usually performed manually by professional voice actors who read lines with proper prosody, and in synchronization with the pre-recorded videos. In this work, we propose Neural Dubber, the first neural network model to solve a novel automatic video dubbing (AVD) task: synthesizing human speech synchronized with the given video from the text. Neural Dubber is a multi-modal text-to-speech (TTS) model that utilizes the lip movement in the video to control the prosody of the generated speech. Furthermore, an image-based speaker embedding (ISE) module is developed for the multi-speaker setting, which enables Neural Dubber to generate speech with a reasonable timbre according to the speaker's face. Experiments on the chemistry lecture single-speaker dataset and LRS2 multi-speaker dataset show that Neural Dubber can generate speech audios on par with state-of-the-art TTS models in terms of speech quality. Most importantly, both qualitative and quantitative evaluations show that Neural Dubber can control the prosody of synthesized speech by the video, and generate high-fidelity speech temporally synchronized with the video. The USTC-Ximalaya system for the ICASSP 2022 multi-channel multi-party meeting transcription (M2MeT) challenge

We propose two improvements to target-speaker voice activity detection (TS-VAD), the core component in our proposed speaker diarization system that was submitted to the 2022 Multi-Channel Multi-Party Meeting Transcription (M2MeT) challenge. These techniques are designed to handle multi-speaker conversations in real-world meeting scenarios with high speaker-overlap ratios and under heavy reverberant and noisy condition. First, for data preparation and augmentation in training TS-VAD models, speech data containing both real meetings and simulated indoor conversations are used. Second, in refining results obtained after TS-VAD based decoding, we perform a series of post-processing steps to improve the VAD results needed to reduce diarization error rates (DERs). Tested on the ALIMEETING corpus, the newly released Mandarin meeting dataset used in M2MeT, we demonstrate that our proposed system can decrease the DER by up to 66.55/60.59% relatively when compared with classical clustering based diarization on the Eval/Test set.

The dynamical exponent of a quantum critical itinerant ferromagnet: a Monte Carlo study

We consider the effect of the coupling between 2D quantum rotors near an XY ferromagnetic quantum critical point and spins of itinerant fermions. We analyze how this coupling affects the dynamics of rotors and the self-energy of fermions.A common belief is that near a $q=0$ ferromagnetic transition, fermions induce an $Ω/q$ Landau damping of rotors (i.e., the dynamical critical exponent is $z=3$) and Landau overdamped rotors give rise to non-Fermi liquid fermionic self-energy $Σ\propto ω^{2/3}$. This behavior has been confirmed in previous quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) studies. Here we show that for the XY case the behavior is different. We report the results of large scale quantum Monte Carlo simulations, which show that at small frequencies $z=2$ and $Σ\propto ω^{1/2}$. We argue that the new behavior is associated with the fact that a fermionic spin is by itself not a conserved quantity due to spin-spin coupling to rotors, and a combination of self-energy and vertex corrections replaces $1/q$ in the Landau damping by a constant. We discuss the implication of these results to experiments.

An Efficient Algorithm for the Partitioning Min-Max Weighted Matching Problem

The Partitioning Min-Max Weighted Matching (PMMWM) problem is an NP-hard problem that combines the problem of partitioning a group of vertices of a bipartite graph into disjoint subsets with limited size and the classical Min-Max Weighted Matching (MMWM) problem. Kress et al. proposed this problem in 2015 and they also provided several algorithms, among which MP$_{\text{LS}}$ is the state-of-the-art. In this work, we observe there is a time bottleneck in the matching phase of MP$_{\text{LS}}$. Hence, we optimize the redundant operations during the matching iterations, and propose an efficient algorithm called the MP$_{\text{KM-M}}$ that greatly speeds up MP$_{\text{LS}}$. The bottleneck time complexity is optimized from $O(n^3)$ to $O(n^2)$. We also prove the correctness of MP$_{\text{KM-M}}$ by the primal-dual method. To test the performance on diverse instances, we generate various types and sizes of benchmarks, and carried out an extensive computational study on the performance of MP$_{\text{KM-M}}$ and MP$_{\text{LS}}$. The evaluation results show that our MP$_{\text{KM-M}}$ greatly shortens the runtime as compared with MP$_{\text{LS}}$ while yielding the same solution quality.

Mixed QCD-EW corrections for Higgs leptonic decay via $HW^+W^-$ vertex

We consider the two-loop corrections to the $HW^+W^-$ vertex at order $αα_s$. We construct a canonical basis for the two-loop integrals using the Baikov representation and the intersection theory. By solving the $ε$-form differential equations, we obtain fully analytic expressions for the master integrals in terms of multiple polylogarithms, which allow fast and accurate numeric evaluation for arbitrary configurations of external momenta. We apply our analytic results to the decay process $H \to ν_e e W$, and study both the integrated and differential decay rates. Our results can also be applied to the Higgs production process via $W$ boson fusion.

FastGPL: a C++ library for fast evaluation of generalized polylogarithms

We present FastGPL, a C++ library for the fast evaluation of generalized polylogarithms which appear in many multi-loop Feynman integrals. We implement the iterative algorithm proposed by Vollinga and Weinzierl in a two-step approach, i.e., we generate concise expressions using an external program and hard-code them into the numeric library. This allows efficient and accurate numeric evaluations of generalized polylogarithms suitable for Monte Carlo integration and event generation. Floating-point arithmetics are carefully taken care of to avoid loss of accuracy. As an application and demonstration, we calculate the two-loop corrections for Higgs boson production in the vector boson fusion channel at electron-positron colliders. FastGPL is expected to be useful for event generators at the next-to-next-to-leading order accuracy.

Deep Superpixel-based Network for Blind Image Quality Assessment

The goal in a blind image quality assessment (BIQA) model is to simulate the process of evaluating images by human eyes and accurately assess the quality of the image. Although many approaches effectively identify degradation, they do not fully consider the semantic content in images resulting in distortion. In order to fill this gap, we propose a deep adaptive superpixel-based network, namely DSN-IQA, to assess the quality of image based on multi-scale and superpixel segmentation. The DSN-IQA can adaptively accept arbitrary scale images as input images, making the assessment process similar to human perception. The network uses two models to extract multi-scale semantic features and generate a superpixel adjacency map. These two elements are united together via feature fusion to accurately predict image quality. Experimental results on different benchmark databases demonstrate that our algorithm is highly competitive with other approaches when assessing challenging authentic image databases. Also, due to adaptive deep superpixel-based network, our model accurately assesses images with complicated distortion, much like the human eye.

Cloning one's voice using very limited data in the wild

With the increasing popularity of speech synthesis products, the industry has put forward more requirements for personalized speech synthesis: (1) How to use low-resource, easily accessible data to clone a person's voice. (2) How to clone a person's voice while controlling the style and prosody. To solve the above two problems, we proposed the Hieratron model framework in which the prosody and timbre are modeled separately using two modules, therefore, the independent control of timbre and the other characteristics of audio can be achieved while generating speech. The practice shows that, for very limited target speaker data in the wild, Hieratron has obvious advantages over the traditional method, in addition to controlling the style and language of the generated speech, the mean opinion score on speech quality of the generated speech has also been improved by more than 0.2 points.

VoiceFixer: Toward General Speech Restoration with Neural Vocoder

Speech restoration aims to remove distortions in speech signals. Prior methods mainly focus on single-task speech restoration (SSR), such as speech denoising or speech declipping. However, SSR systems only focus on one task and do not address the general speech restoration problem. In addition, previous SSR systems show limited performance in some speech restoration tasks such as speech super-resolution. To overcome those limitations, we propose a general speech restoration (GSR) task that attempts to remove multiple distortions simultaneously. Furthermore, we propose VoiceFixer, a generative framework to address the GSR task. VoiceFixer consists of an analysis stage and a synthesis stage to mimic the speech analysis and comprehension of the human auditory system. We employ a ResUNet to model the analysis stage and a neural vocoder to model the synthesis stage. We evaluate VoiceFixer with additive noise, room reverberation, low-resolution, and clipping distortions. Our baseline GSR model achieves a 0.499 higher mean opinion score (MOS) than the speech enhancement SSR model. VoiceFixer further surpasses the GSR baseline model on the MOS score by 0.256. Moreover, we observe that VoiceFixer generalizes well to severely degraded real speech recordings, indicating its potential in restoring old movies and historical speeches. Decoupling Magnitude and Phase Estimation with Deep ResUNet for Music Source Separation

Deep neural network based methods have been successfully applied to music source separation. They typically learn a mapping from a mixture spectrogram to a set of source spectrograms, all with magnitudes only. This approach has several limitations: 1) its incorrect phase reconstruction degrades the performance, 2) it limits the magnitude of masks between 0 and 1 while we observe that 22% of time-frequency bins have ideal ratio mask values of over~1 in a popular dataset, MUSDB18, 3) its potential on very deep architectures is under-explored. Our proposed system is designed to overcome these. First, we propose to estimate phases by estimating complex ideal ratio masks (cIRMs) where we decouple the estimation of cIRMs into magnitude and phase estimations. Second, we extend the separation method to effectively allow the magnitude of the mask to be larger than 1. Finally, we propose a residual UNet architecture with up to 143 layers. Our proposed system achieves a state-of-the-art MSS result on the MUSDB18 dataset, especially, a SDR of 8.98~dB on vocals, outperforming the previous best performance of 7.24~dB. The ByteDance Speaker Diarization System for the VoxCeleb Speaker Recognition Challenge 2021

This paper describes the ByteDance speaker diarization system for the fourth track of the VoxCeleb Speaker Recognition Challenge 2021 (VoxSRC-21). The VoxSRC-21 provides both the dev set and test set of VoxConverse for use in validation and a standalone test set for evaluation. We first collect the duration and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of all audio and find that the distribution of the VoxConverse's test set and the VoxSRC-21's test set is more closer. Our system consists of voice active detection (VAD), speaker embedding extraction, spectral clustering followed by a re-clustering step based on agglomerative hierarchical clustering (AHC) and overlapped speech detection and handling. Finally, we integrate systems with different time scales using DOVER-Lap. Our best system achieves 5.15\% of the diarization error rate (DER) on evaluation set, ranking the second at the diarization track of the challenge.

SU(4) symmetry in twisted bilayer graphene - an itinerant perspective

We study symmetry-broken phases in twisted bilayer graphene at small filling above charge neutrality and at Van Hove filling. We argue that the Landau functionals for the particle-hole order parameters at these fillings both have an approximate SU(4) symmetry, but differ in the sign of quartic terms. We determine the order parameter manifold of the ground state and analyze its excitations. For small fillings, we find a strong 1st-order transition to an SU(3)$\otimes$U(1) manifold of orders that break spin-valley symmetry and induce a 3-1 splitting of fermionic excitations. For Van Hove filling, we find a weak 1st-order transition to an SO(4)$\otimes$U(1) manifold of orders that preserves the two-fold band degeneracy. We discuss the effect of particle-hole orders on superconductivity and compare with strong-coupling approaches.

High-resolution Piano Transcription with Pedals by Regressing Onset and Offset Times

Automatic music transcription (AMT) is the task of transcribing audio recordings into symbolic representations. Recently, neural network-based methods have been applied to AMT, and have achieved state-of-the-art results. However, many previous systems only detect the onset and offset of notes frame-wise, so the transcription resolution is limited to the frame hop size. There is a lack of research on using different strategies to encode onset and offset targets for training. In addition, previous AMT systems are sensitive to the misaligned onset and offset labels of audio recordings. Furthermore, there are limited researches on sustain pedal transcription on large-scale datasets. In this article, we propose a high-resolution AMT system trained by regressing precise onset and offset times of piano notes. At inference, we propose an algorithm to analytically calculate the precise onset and offset times of piano notes and pedal events. We show that our AMT system is robust to the misaligned onset and offset labels compared to previous systems. Our proposed system achieves an onset F1 of 96.72% on the MAESTRO dataset, outperforming previous onsets and frames system of 94.80%. Our system achieves a pedal onset F1 score of 91.86\%, which is the first benchmark result on the MAESTRO dataset. We have released the source code and checkpoints of our work at https://github.com/bytedance/piano_transcription.

Symmetry-protected gates of Majorana qubits in a high-$T_c$ superconductor platform

We propose a platform for braiding Majorana non-Abelian anyons based on a heterostructure between a $d$-wave high-$T_c$ superconductor and a quantum spin-Hall insulator. It has been recently shown that such a setup for a quantum spin-Hall insulator leads to a pair of Majorana zero modes at each corner of the sample, and thus can be regarded as a higher-order topological superconductor. We show that upon applying a Zeeman field in the region, these Majorana modes split in space and can be manipulated for braiding processes by tuning the field and pairing phase. We show that such a setup can achieve full braiding, exchanging, and arbitrary phase gates (including the $π/8$ magic gates) of the Majorana zero modes, all of which are robust and protected by symmetries. As many of the ingredients of our proposed platform have been realized in recent experiments, our results provide a new route toward universal topological quantum computation.

Listen, Read, and Identify: Multimodal Singing Language Identification of Music

We propose a multimodal singing language classification model that uses both audio content and textual metadata. LRID-Net, the proposed model, takes an audio signal and a language probability vector estimated from the metadata and outputs the probabilities of the target languages. Optionally, LRID-Net is facilitated with modality dropouts to handle a missing modality. In the experiment, we trained several LRID-Nets with varying modality dropout configuration and tested them with various combinations of input modalities. The experiment results demonstrate that using multimodal input improves performance. The results also suggest that adopting modality dropout does not degrade the performance of the model when there are full modality inputs while enabling the model to handle missing modality cases to some extent.

Joint Echo Cancellation and Noise Suppression based on Cascaded Magnitude and Complex Mask Estimation

Acoustic echo and background noise can seriously degrade the intelligibility of speech. In practice, echo and noise suppression are usually treated as two separated tasks and can be removed with various digital signal processing (DSP) and deep learning techniques. In this paper, we propose a new cascaded model, magnitude and complex temporal convolutional neural network (MC-TCN), to jointly perform acoustic echo cancellation and noise suppression with the help of adaptive filters. The MC-TCN cascades two separation cores, which are used to extract robust magnitude spectra feature and to enhance magnitude and phase simultaneously. Experimental results reveal that the proposed method can achieve superior performance by removing both echo and noise in real-time. In terms of DECMOS, the subjective test shows our method achieves a mean score of 4.41 and outperforms the INTERSPEECH2021 AEC-Challenge baseline by 0.54.

Audiovisual Singing Voice Separation

Separating a song into vocal and accompaniment components is an active research topic, and recent years witnessed an increased performance from supervised training using deep learning techniques. We propose to apply the visual information corresponding to the singers' vocal activities to further improve the quality of the separated vocal signals. The video frontend model takes the input of mouth movement and fuses it into the feature embeddings of an audio-based separation framework. To facilitate the network to learn audiovisual correlation of singing activities, we add extra vocal signals irrelevant to the mouth movement to the audio mixture during training. We create two audiovisual singing performance datasets for training and evaluation, respectively, one curated from audition recordings on the Internet, and the other recorded in house. The proposed method outperforms audio-based methods in terms of separation quality on most test recordings. This advantage is especially pronounced when there are backing vocals in the accompaniment, which poses a great challenge for audio-only methods.

VeniBot: Towards Autonomous Venipuncture with Semi-supervised Vein Segmentation from Ultrasound Images

In the modern medical care, venipuncture is an indispensable procedure for both diagnosis and treatment. In this paper, unlike existing solutions that fully or partially rely on professional assistance, we propose VeniBot -- a compact robotic system solution integrating both novel hardware and software developments. For the hardware, we design a set of units to facilitate the supporting, positioning, puncturing and imaging functionalities. For the software, to move towards a full automation, we propose a novel deep learning framework -- semi-ResNeXt-Unet for semi-supervised vein segmentation from ultrasound images. From which, the depth information of vein is calculated and used to enable automated navigation for the puncturing unit. VeniBot is validated on 40 volunteers, where ultrasound images can be collected successfully. For the vein segmentation validation, the proposed semi-ResNeXt-Unet improves the dice similarity coefficient (DSC) by 5.36%, decreases the centroid error by 1.38 pixels and decreases the failure rate by 5.60%, compared to fully-supervised ResNeXt-Unet.
