Convergence rate of $\ell^p$-relaxation on a graph to a $p$-harmonic function with given boundary values
We study asynchronous $\ell^p$-energy minimization on finite connected graphs with prescribed boundary values. At each step, a uniformly chosen interior vertex updates its value to minimize the local energy. For initial values in $[0,1]$, we bound the expected time to approach the $p$-harmonic extension within $ε$ in supremum norm, for $0<ε\le1/2$. On graphs with $n$ vertices, the bound is $C_p n^{β_p}ε^{-(2-p)/(p-1)}$ for $1<p<2$ and $C_p n^{β_p}\log(n/ε)$ for $p\ge2$, where $C_p$ depends only on $p$ and $β_p=\max\{2p/(p-1),3\}$. Bounds incorporating average degree are jointly sharp in graph size, degree, and accuracy for $1<p<2$; for $p\ge2$, lower bounds match the polynomial dependence on size and degree at fixed accuracy. We also establish corresponding synchronous bounds and graph-dependent estimates for $p=2$.
